    Salmon Hand Roll
    Marty T.

This visit was my second time here. I remember thoroughly enjoying the hearty miso soup with the black truffle oil in it, so I went for that again after coming in from the cold. I enjoyed the miso as six oysters that were a part of the happy hour special menu made an appearance alongside the salmon hand roll, and both were delicious. I chose counter seating as I dined alone this time again, and it was neat to get to interact with the server, hostess, and the chef, who are all stationed in the center of the u-shape counter that serves as the outer border for the food and beverage prep area. I was the first person to arrive once this restaurant that reminds me of izakaya style dining opened on a Sunday and I enjoyed being the only person there for the entire meal (there was a group of four or five coming in any moment though, and I know they get busier as the evening goes on.

Delicious food and excellent service! An explosion of unexpected flavors! The devise taco was a stand out!

Excellent experience! Friendly and attentive service. Started with the oysters, which were phenomenal. The Nama hotdog was great but when I tell you this Panna Cotta changed my life, I'm a better person now. I'm not a desert person to start with and now I might never have desert again because this pan acotta was so delicate and yummy. I would bring my family here when we visits Ashland again

Phenomenal every damn time! Great service and high quality delicious and creative food.

Fresh raw fish loins right under the nose of customers. No "splatter screen". No bueno!

I would so love to give 5 stars, but read on to here my issues and why I can't. For the most part, my experience here was great. They put out some wonderful sashimi and oysters on the half shell. I had their blue fin tuna, aged hamachi, 2 dozen oysters, a California roll sandwich, a bowl of seasoned rice and a jumbo shrimp cocktail. The sashimi dishes were top notch and I'll be back for that. It's hard to find such fresh fish in the valley, so for me it made the trip worth it. The CA roll sandwich was unimpressive with brown spotted avocado slices inside. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was comprised of only the tail portions. Really? Where did the rest of the shrimp go? Ah, the big portions probably went to Josh nextdoor at MAS. Not cool IMHO. But perhaps the worst faux pas and why I can only give 3 stars was how they manage their fresh, raw fish. It's sitting right up on the counter in front of the patrons who sat there. Seriously? That's no place to leave your fish loins that will be cut raw and served to guests. As I was eating, I noticed a guy cough and sniff right over the raw fish! Understand, there is no kind of "splatter screen" like a glass shield between the customer and the fish. It's just right there, about 10" away (see pic). I'm kinda surprised the health department allows this. I hope the management fixes this unsanitary situation. Truth...

Had such a great meal with a buddy over at Nama in Ashland. Plenty of pretentiousness with the clientele but the vibe seems to embrace it. The presentation and flavor is absolutely incredible. Honestly if my wallet could survive it I'd be here every day. New menu every time I've come which is always welcome. This time it was a chirachi bowl, some blue fin tuna and a dungenous crab sandwich roll. All. Accompanied with their libation du jour. Could have added more to our plates if we stayed longer. Two hours and $300 later (2 people) and it was time for the Lebowski movie. Yes I know a few folks while whine and bitch about the price. But we need places like this to balance out the crappy food that exists locally. Can not wait to come back.

What a huge disappointment it was yesterday night, on Sunday.... I was looking forward to all different options with oysters but... the restaurant was completely out of it! How could you call it an oyster bar where there is NO oysters? They were out of other dishes as well. Sous chef was in charge and constantly mixing up orders. That was the last straw, will never be coming again.

The Hamachi was great on its own, but adding Caviar made a superb pairing.

Nama is a great addition to Ashland's fine dining scene. I was greeted by name on arrival and Sarah helped me chose a sake to my liking. Food was terrific, fresh and delicious and the staff were very attentive. The hamachi was my favorite especially since I added the caviar option to it. the caviar really made it pop. The Aphrodite oysters were a really great start. will definitely be back.

We were at Omar's for dinner with a group of six friends on Wednesday at 6:30, and several of us wanted to order the crab special, but it was already so popular it had sold out. We all enjoyed the alternate seafood items we ordered (3 orders of breaded and baked snapper and Manila Clams), but the soft shell crab meunière was still on my mind... My husband and I had to try it, so we made an earlier reservation (5:30pm) on Friday night to see if we could snag the crab meunière. The restaurant was already getting fairly busy. Our server was so kind and our put in our dinner order right away. We were able to get the last crab dish. It was phenomenal! Buttery and delicious. We were so glad we came back twice this week. This time for Friday date night. It was a perfect experience. Classic old-school nice restaurant vibe with tasty well-prepared food, red leather booths, and friendly people. We ordered: -Soft shell crab meunière dinner special: 5 stars! (Honestly, I would give it 100 stars!) Go there and get this while they have it! -Fresh steamed Manila clams appetizer: 5 stars (I often order this appetizer as my entree and then get a side salad. They are so fresh and tasty. They're steamed in white wine, garlic, cream, and fresh herbs. Love this so much! Save some bread to dunk in the broth. -Brussels sprouts appetizer: 5 stars (prepared perfectly, crispy on the outside with balsamic vinegar and salt) -Butternut Squash ravioli appetizer: 5 stars (Cooked in brown butter. These are yummy!) -Maple walnut Manhattan: 5 stars (balanced, boozy, and not overly sweet) -Rogue Valley Trium ganache rosé: 5 stars, paired well with the clams and Crab My husband and I love Omar's. We've dined there many times, alone and with friends and family over the years. I appreciated that they have a mix of seafood options. Those are generally what we order since we're pescatarians. Another one of our favorite go-to options is Omar's panko fried Pacific oysters entree. (5 stars)

We ended up just wandering around the area looking for an alternative and stumbled upon Osteria La Briccola; I'm always down for Italian, and it looked like there were some good options for the members of our group who were gluten free. There were 7 of us though, and we were told it would be about a 50-minute wait for a table. It was getting kind of late to be looking for somewhere else to go, so we were like okay, we'll just sit and wait. As we were walking away, the general manager Daniel rushed out and said if we could give him 15 minutes, he could have us set up in the private dining room. We didn't even know such a thing existed, but we said okay, cool. Reader, it could not have possibly been a better experience. We waited a bit (less than 15 minutes, even) and walked into this private space to find a large family-style dining table all set up for us, with candlelight and music and the whole bit. Our server Patrick was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the menu, able to answer all our questions, and had a great sense of humor. Everyone ordered something different and ended up trying bites of each other's food, and it was all delicious. Several of us even ordered dessert; I don't normally, but the salted caramel gelato sounded too good to pass up (and it was well worth it). It was such a great evening and was, I'm sure, 10x better than the other place we'd originally planned on eating at. Thank you Daniel and Patrick for taking such good care of us!

As a chef at two James Beard-winning restaurants, a server, owner, and consultant, I have dedicated my life to the food industry and the people within it. I'm from Ashland, and I was so happy when places like this started showing up in my hometown. Good food and atmosphere can be so hard to find. Coming home to Ashland can be a true oasis for my family. My wife and I have made it our life's mission to make our daughter feel equal and included. Our daughter was born with a rare condition called AMC and does not have normal function in any of her limbs. She currently spends 3-4 days a week in physical therapy to continue building strength so her body and organs can function properly. We were visiting family at the park and suggested stopping in for a beverage and snacks to escape the heat after a long day. We typically plan everything ahead to ensure wherever we go can accommodate my daughter's wheelchair and needs. When we arrived, we thought, "Wow, perfect, she can wheel right in and up to one of the many open tables." Once we were "greeted" by the host, I realized we were not who she wanted to deal with. Three kids, three adults, a stroller, and a wheelchair. She looked like she wanted nothing to do with us, like we were dirt on her shoe. "No reservation," she said. I replied, "Yeah, so sorry, we figured since it was a Monday night right when you opened, and there were only two two-tops seated, we could probably find somewhere to sit." I reassured her we would not stay long enough to impact reservations at the larger front tables, which usually have reserved markers on them but did not at the time. We could all feel that she didn't want to seat us, and we left despite me practically begging to make something work for us, because I know she could have if she wanted to. Being from the industry, I understand what kids can do to an atmosphere, and I know a lot of restaurant workers don't enjoy dealing with other people's children. But when we went outside and my daughter cried and said, "They didn't want me there" So I loaded my daughter's wheelchair back into the car so I could carry her up the stairs at Brickroom, where one employee was working the entire place and took amazing care of us, I might add. We resorted to a booster seat for my daughter since she couldn't use her wheelchair there. She ended up falling out of the seat and slamming onto the hardwood floor. She cried and was embarrassed. The young man tending bar while also waiting every table rushed over with a bag of ice to comfort her. It was honestly touching how kind he was. When we left Brickroom, we had spent more time there than we originally intended to spend at Bar Juliet. As we walked back by Bar Juliet, we noticed the restaurant was still only about half full, and one of the large front tables had remained open the entire time from around 4:10 until 5:40 when we walked by again. I had to stop and ask the host why she couldn't have seated us considering that table never filled. Her only explanation was, "Our kitchen is slow getting food out." Such an incredibly weak excuse. I hope she understands she was wrong and that she made my daughter feel unwanted simply because accommodating us wasn't convenient for her. I have never left a review in my life, but I was so saddened and disgusted by this experience that I felt I had to.

I do this to gauge reactions. And here, they were super friendly and accommodating. I took a spot at the end of bar and immediately struck up a conversation with the couple next to me. They had a burger that wasn't on the menu I had been given. Apparently there is a sort of soft opening before they open for dinner with a different menu. That's cool! I had about three hours until a Shakespeare show, so I decided for the full experience: Salad - I spent nearly the entire salad experience trying to decide whether I liked the dressing or the bright citrus of the grapefruit better. What was never in question was how tasty and refreshing it was. Crab and Melin salad. Appetizer - I wasn't sure what to expect with the Beef Carpaccio. Definitely my first time with this dish. But it won't be the last time. I probably ate it wrong, but mixing the arugula and cheese was very tasty. It disappeared quickly. Main - so it wasn't really a main, but the dish came at the recommendation of the bartender. The asparagus in the description was the selling point, but the potato dumplings reminded me of gnocchi. It was almost the perfect round up to a stellar meal. Drinks - My favorite cocktail is a prohibition style drink called a New York Sour. I think I like it because the red wine tones down the sweetness of the sour mix. I asked for one and after I finished it, the bartender asked how it was and admitted she'd never made one before. I said it was okay and we talked about what I'd do different. The second one was perfect. See the pictures for a comparison of the two.

Plus having the minimum option be 18 contributes to the toxic tipping trends. Service: this was the area that struggled the most. When we arrived our party was waiting by the host stand that said to wait to be seated for a long time along with several other parties. While I understand wanting to spread our seating, no one even acknowledged us for nearly 10 minutes leaving us and the other parties wondering if they even noticed us. Once seated, we not checked on by our server, only saw at order and check. Important because we had a couple missing items from our order that we had to flag down multiple people for because we would tell someone who would "check on it" for us but still never brought out our missing items and maybe would have been noticed if we were checked on. Plus never had our waters refilled or anything of that. Drinks: these were either good or meh, with some of the coffee drinks like cappuccino or latte being well made, whereas others like the chai really just tasted like milk with some spice on top. Food: this was just about average. There was nothing too significant to report here, but it didn't exactly feel special or real reason to go again. To be fair, it was popular downtown as the weather was nice and the outside seating was popular, but for peak tourist and graduation season, there certainly should be more staffing to avoid issues.
