I've been coming here for the past week since I work at a hospital nearby so I've always eaten out and the food is great great for vegetarians but make sure you get your "receipt" and check how much you would charge because The first time I was there I asked for a receipt but after that I never asked for it then I checked my balance the weekend and they "charged me double" every time I guess they realize that I'll never find out but I did I spoke to the young skinny guy that always Ring me up and he was pretty angry I mean I should be angry right but I told him hey you see me coming every time I told him to look at the camera to see what I ordered and see if it matches from my bank statement that I'm showing them and they really get mad but I like eating here so I let it go but for everyone else just get your receipt because they might try to pull a good one on your card read more

The style is similar to Panda Express-- food is already prepared and kept hot in chafing dishes. Diners choose a combo and pick the items from the prepared foods. The food was good, but not the items that I would normally order from an Indian restaurant. The restaurant also offers a variety of foods that can be prepared fresh from the kitchen, but the menu does not have any English translations. The staff that day were very friendly, but their English wasn't good and they could not explain what the items were. Totally random. I'm driving north on Hill from a job site thinking, "I'm so hungry, I'm turning into the first food place I see!" Next thing I know, I quickly dive into the parking lot and discover...vegetarian and vegan Indian food, order at the counter! Yum! I had been eating a bunch of garbage food in the past few days, so I figured it was time for me to eat some real food. And oh, it was SO good! I'm so glad I happened to run into this parking lot. The signage wasn't what tipped me off. It was just a split second sight of someone with some delicious looking curry. So I get inside, and it's a full marketplace. On my left is half a grocery store full of unique items that I would love to spend more time browsing. On my right is an order-at-the-counter restaurant with lots of great looking dishes on display. I am greeted warmly. Thinking about how I was in a rush to get to my next job, I ask, "What can I eat...while driving?..." The man behind the counter lit up; he knew just the thing. A few short minutes later a warm pancake full of veggies and cheese wrapped in foil was delivered to me, accompanied by some delicious pickled veggies, some curry, and a yogurt dish. It was like biting into heaven. It made my next 30 minutes of driving in traffic like a little bit of heaven. I didn't even mind that I was stuck behind a bunch of trucks moving slower than everyone else. I had my yummy lunch. I couldn't tell you the name of the dish. But it was so good! Next time, I'll just get a sampler of a couple more curries. And I'll try to pick up some groceries too. I strongly recommend this place, and I hope it becomes very successful. read more

Namaste is proof you can get a decent, flavourful meal, without the need for paying over the odds. In fact, I enjoyed the experience of choosing between the various dals and veggie curries. This is a good spot for inexpensive Indian samosas, especially if you use the check-in special. The samosas are huge and the sauces ( I just had the tangy red sauce) really add some kick to them. Service is friendly enough. Will come back to try other dishes. The dosa looks interesting. read more

This is an anti-recommendation. I don't write many of these. Almost never, in fact, because most establishments, even if the food isn't amazing, or you don't receive the world's best service, don't treat you like a lesser person. I'm used to mild rudeness from the "take it or leave it" attitude that a lot of hole-in-the-wall Asian establishments adopt because they know their food is great and they simply don't give a fuck (as it is done in Asia). But my experience at Namaste took it a step further. After ordering a paneer masala to go from the takeaway counter, I was super curious about the various desserts they had on the sweets side. I can't get enough of Indian desserts--kheer and gajar halwa and whatnot, but for the most part, I don't know what any of these delicious things are, and I'm eager to learn. Namaste has a larger selection than most--in particular, there were 3 very similarly looking pudding like substances right next to each other, all white in color, and everything is unlabeled, so I asked the young man behind the counter if he could tell me what they were. I received series of curt and unenthused one word answers that were very unhelpful in allowing me to ascertain the differences amongst the three products. One of them was yogurt-based, and one of them was milk-based...that was seriously all he wanted to tell me, apart from their Indian names. It was like pulling teeth, and every second that I stood there (all of three minutes, maybe), I could feel his patience with me wear thinner. Still, I persisted, because I'm a betch who wants my questions answered, I guess. I feel that any establishment that sells products that may not be mainstream should take the initiative to not only name them to customers, but to offer easily accessible explanations as to what they are. It's not only easier on everyone involved, it's certainly more welcoming to a clueless person who's nevertheless genuinely interested in your product and wants to offer her business. But after maybe my fourth or fifth question, I seemed to have broken him, and he came out from behind the counter and snapped at me. I had had the audacity to ask him how the yogurt-based and milk-based puddings are different--clearly they are different because THIS ONE is made of yogurt and THIS ONE is made of milk. Obviously, this gives me all I need to know about texture, flavor, spices, other ingredients, sweetness, etc., etc., etc. I might have been a high-maintenance customer today (or I might have just asked one simple question about the products), but I don't love being condescended to, and I honestly can't remember the last time it happened to me in an establishment where I was a willing and paying customer. "I'll just take the paneer," I said. Someone else rung me up, and I left. I won't be back. I'll be going to Bhanu in San Gabriel for all of my further Indian grocery needs and my prying questions. Came here on a weekend to get groceries and to check out the restaurant. An even blend of Desis and non- desis in the store and restaurant. Overall they have all your usual Indian groceries, though their produce was a little lacking and slightly more expensive than expected. They have organic dals, which made the wife happy. We ordered the aloo chaat, the #2 plate combination, and the pav bhaji. Total came out to $20. We thought the aloo chaat was pretty good, and would get it again or try the bhel puri or the papdi chaat next time. They grilled the pav to perfection-- just the right amount of ghee and crisp, and the bhaji was good, not great. We selected the poori (naan is +$1), samosa, bisi beli bath, gobi manchurian, and the potato with tindora for our combo plate. Poori was pretty large, the bisi beli bath and gobi manchurian were excellent. Next time we'd probably get the combo #1 because the samosa tasted reheated (though it was probably good fresh). We'd try something else instead of the potatoes-- maybe the kadi or the vegetable korma. Would also consider getting the vegan mango lassi, purely out of curiosity. read more

I live in the Burbank area and I had been on a desperate hunt for an Indian grocery store for two years now. And then a friend of mine mentioned Namaste Spiceland and how they just opened recently. . In a few hours, my husband and I drove to the place and they were closing in 15mins. Now, I would understand if I walked in after they closed, but 15mins prior is good enough, aye? . From the other reviews, I do agree there's a guy who's a bit difficult but there was another sweet man. He might not be all smiles, but he does everything with love. It takes one to know one. . So while, I was almost turned away by the former, Harsh made way to accomodate me. . I am a Chaat fanatic and boy oh boy!! I had a bomb Papdi chaat!! Goodness me!! That tasted like HEAVEN!!! . Today, I got to try their DO combo and I got Rice, Puri, Paneer Curry, Mushroom curry, Yoghurt & Pickle. Dessert was Kulfi! Now I wasn't a fan of the mushroom curry, but my hubby loved it. To each their own. I can't give it a 4star coz hey, someone else likes it! The paneer curry was absolutely delish!! I was sad I couldn't get another serving! The kulfi though! Daaaang!!! So so so so so good!!! . So yeah, there's flaws, but I ain't giving this place anything less than 5 stars. There's no place that's perfect. And if it's a traditional cuisine spot, you ought to show them more grace. . First of all, you can't probably cook that fabulously flavorful Indian dish which is why you came over to eat out here. We continued to order a few more items despite his rudeness but when my daughter started to order and he treated her not only rude, but disrespectfully. Firstly, I'm not an expert of this cuisine and what I care about is how well things taste. I've been here 3 times when I'm working in the area and hopefully I get the chance to work around here more often. I really like the concept that it's part grocery store part fast food joint. The parking lot is big but somehow it feels small. Maybe it's the amount of cars that roll through or the spots are smaller than the average spot but it feels little claustrophobic. So this is culmination of my trips there so far: The service: It's odd that with several times here, my experiences have been different. The first time I was here I figured it would be messy because they had just opened. Being a Chinese guy that did not know how the system worked only added to that. I know part of my confusion was because of the accented english but that's not a fault on them, I'm just not used to hearing it. The times I've come after have not changed much. When I think I've got everything down, I haven't. There's no real system set up and it's really dependent on each individual customer trying to help each other. I get in a line with someone else and I wait patiently. Suddenly someone walks in and jumps ahead. This isn't to say that's the wrong way and perhaps that's part of the authenticity but there's also no employee trying to control it. Some employees are more cheerful than others and I suppose that after a long day or something else affecting your mood, you can get cranky. That being said, you're getting paid so you need to be able to slap on the happy face and deal with it later. Im excited to try whatever food is in that line but I need to ask what's in it because there's certain things I can't/won't eat. I think a simple fix would be to print out the ingredients (At least Main things) under the name of the dish and allow people to read it. At least that would save some time for everyone. I can be shy at times and really feel like I don't want to bother people unless I absolutely have to. The food: I've always liked Indian food. Obviously there are many regions and different flavor profiles of Indian food so for someone to say this is not authentic would be a mistake. This place is slightly different from ones I've had before. Firstly there's no meat here, it's all vegetarian and vegan. Other places I have gone to have been mostly meat dishes and some vegetarian. There is no naan bread here. While you get bread with combos, I would call it more of a tortilla type bread which you get baked or fried. I think it's probably more authentic simply because it's an easier vessel to tear and pick up food with though I'm not trained enough so ill stick with the fork and spoon. So far I've really enjoyed the food so far. They try to pack a lot of flavor being it's vegetarian fair. Some dishes can be spicy (Though not too spicy) but they don't tell you either unless you ask which again leads back to service. Overall: I do enjoy the food here but they still need to hammer out a workable system of ordering. I think if you were starving that would only add to the frustration. It's seems a cliche but it does smell like curry every time I walk in but I like it and it is a restaurant. I just thought I would put that out there. read more

Great Southern Indian quick serve restaurant, and Indian centered grocery store. Their combo plates are a vegetarian's dream! I highly recommend any of their daals, and get your bread baked. I was very confused when I ordered here to begin with because I don't know legit Indian foods very well but I have heard if you don't know how to pronounce the menu, you know it's good food. I don't know if that's always true, but this time it was. You get a lot of food for your buck. Just a heads up if you are a weakling when it comes to spicy food like me, avoid the potatoes. Shockingly good Indian buffet in an Indian grocery - shocking because it's not only good for Pasadena, but that it's even better than most restaurants in Artesia. Not a huge selection, nor does it look sumptuous, but most of it is vegan and gluten-free, and all of it is absolutely delicious - not bland, with a spicy kick, and uniquely spiced with peppercorns, not at all faceless Indian buffet fare. Only the pakora was a bummer; everything else - the the potatoes masala, dal makhani, shahi paneer, chana dal, spinach, raina, samosa, chapati and puri - were delightful. Prices were great for the combos (I got the "do" combo for $7.49 which was enough to feed me for 2 days). Hard to hear the servers over the Bollywood playing on the TVs, and paying was a bit of a chore, since you have to then go on line at the grocery checkout and pay - but then that gives you an opportunity to pick up items from the grocery, which are better-priced than in Little Bangladesh near Koreatown. Namaste is a fabulous Indian deli/restaurant inside a grocery store. Have you ever been so hungry and so excited to try something new that you just couldn't stop eating? This wonderfully happened to me tonight. Their fresh hot food is outstandingly flavored and spiced to perfection - just a raging topless party of aromatic herbs with just the right amount of chili heat singing some Baliwood number while moon walking across your big fat sloppy tongue. Sip on their mango lassi and you'll be break dancing before dessert. Yes! Be sure to grab something from their dessert station: amazing selection of a dozen or more different pastries and sweets...I want to try them all. And them all I shall try. I also picked up giant bags of organic curcumin powder for just pennies. Did I mention this place is hecka under-priced? THIS is how you do it! We know our Indian food. My husband grew up there and we eat it a couple of times a week. We are so happy we went last night! We tried the paneer dosa. Terrific. Have eaten this at many places and this is the tastiest and most filling one we have tried. We tried the masala dosa. Great flavor, not as filling as the paneer. We loved both the chutneys. Also had a few sweets which were so fresh and tasty. Great texture and wonderful flavors. And best prices too! We are committed regulars going forward. Can't wait to try the chai. I went in the store the lights were off for ever there were boxes all over the floor... the store is very cluttery and I never got any acknowledgement that I was even in the store 5 mins being in the store with no help or acknowledgement I went to leave one of the employees continued coming in as I was trying to leave no excuse me or anything. I definitely wont give this nasty looking store my business.. this isnt India so there is no reason the store should look so nasty in the inside the produce looked like some of it should be discarded cause it looked old over all if I could rate a zero star i would. read more
