I ate a lot of Sarah Lee cheesecakes growing up, and I am embarrassed to say that the cheesecakes here taste a lot like Sarah Lee's ( only richer and more dense ). I took advantage of the Living Social coupon deal. I feel bad for those who didn't because as everyone else has said, the cheesecake really is excellent. It is easily the best cheesecake in the area. It is very much a purist's cheesecake. I believe the only difference between the cheesecakes is the toppings (there are no other flavors or ingredients baked into the cheesecake). I tried the traditional (no toppings). The cheese is lightly sweetened and tangy (from sour cream and perhaps a little bit of lemon). The texture is creamy and slightly firm without being dense. The graham cracker crust is sweet, dense, and buttery. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of real cheesecake. The staff was friendly, and Cherith is obviously passionate about the product. I sincerely hope the word gets out as my favorite cheesecake store in my former home state of Ohio closed because of failed marketing. It's nice to finally have a comparable alternative. read more

Namesake Cheesecake was the perfect solution. The cheesecake tasted like the most velvety, rich cheesecake I have ever tried. It tasted old fashioned in the best possible way. I could tell that not a single ingredient was skimped on. I ordered two cheesecake bite sampler platters and they were perfect. This is the most awesome cheesecake I've literally ever had. I'm a total dessert snob and when I found out that Vino locale has this place as their dessert provider I drove there in traffic just to get a few slices. Drove a long way, over 2 hrs through traffic to a a cheesecake shop, only to find that not only do they not have anycheesecake,but also the person who makes it is on vacation? Going on vacation is one thing but not leaving enough cheesecake for sale at a cheesecake bakery shop that specializes in cheesecake when "you" the owner decide to take a break and get away on a cheesecake profit vacation. Called the other day just to see if anyone would pick up and no one did and it was only barely after just 3 pm. Work ethic=lazy. Ive put in my share. I make better cheesecakes at home anyway. Namesake Cheesecake has a storefront in Menlo Park but I actually met them at the San Carlos Hot Summer nights Farmers Market on Thursday. The cheesecake recipe is a guarded family secret and rightly so - it's deelish! It is just the right amount of sweetness and every bite tastes divine. It's creamy, smooth, and has a nice soft crust - the flavors just meld together really well. It's much better than cheesecake factory! Slices are $3 each and they also sell the whole pie. I wouldn't get this too often as cheesecake in general is highly caloric but this is fun for a special treat. This is the most delicious, smooth piece of cheesecake I've ever had! The filling is rich and the crust is soft and not overpowering. I picked up my piece at the Thursday night San Carlos farmers market after trying a little sample that they were giving out. I got the regular version and not the gluten-free version. I had a small problem (not worth mentioning) with my first piece, but the owner, Cherith, got me a replacement piece with no questions asked. She's a real superstar! I'm not entirely sure of the logistics of this place because I went at an odd hour and was basically told that you're supposed to call ahead and place an order to be picked up. Cherith is the most gracious and friendly person a cheesecake buyer could ever hope to encounter. I hadn't known that orders needed to be placed two days ahead. I had planned on strolling in randomly and coming out with a cheesecake. But somehow I found out that this was not the way things were done, and the night before my boyfriend's birthday I called and left a bunch of messages (probably annoying, come to think of it) on Cherith's phone asking if she could pretty please make one for the next day. Cherith not only called me back the next morning, she also had a cake ready and waiting for me! It being Mother's Day weekend, she had made a few extra just in case. She even offered to stay later than her usual 5 pm closing time in case I needed to pick it up late. When I came to pick up the cake, she greeted me by name, popped the cake out, and even included free candles because she knew it was for my boyfriend's birthday. Even before tasting the cheesecake, I knew I would be coming back. So what about the actual cheesecake? Can I just say that I will NEVER be eating at the cheesecake factory again? Cherith's cake was INCREDIBLE. I have never had such amazing cheesecake in my life. My mouth is watering just writing this review.
