I'm really excited that this restaurant is in my neighborhood and that soup dumpling readily accessible. If you are here, I do recommend getting the soup dumplings especially when you can sit there and eat it hot. I also recommend the cucumber as a side because it's really refreshing. This is a brand new restaurant so the ambiance is clean and shiny. Here is 2 things that knocked off a star for me though: 1: The counter area smells like the bathroom floor mix with cleaning supplies. It's slightly off putting because the kitchen is behind the counter and you have to wonder why it smell like the bathroom. Maybe it was an issue they didn't get around to yet? 2: They don't have additional food options like their other stores so I was missing some of my favorites. For example, I was craving their spicy tendon&tripe, truffle&pork soup dimpling, & chicken with white wine. I'm excited to see if the menu gets more extensive after the soft opening. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Nan Xiang opened another location in South End. The location is really clean, self-serve, and on the corner of the busy streets so it's a good area. Friend and I went and ordered a ton of dumplings! Wegot crab & pork soup dumplings, chicken soup dumplings, chicken & shrimp siu mai, scallion pancake with beef, pork potstickers, chive pork & shrimp dumplings, spicy crispy chicken bowl, and pepper beef bowl. Because it's a lot, here's my favorites and what is worth it: - crab & pork soup dumplings - chicken soup dumplings - scallion pancake with beef Everything else was solid but dunno if I would get them again! I'vehad their noodle dishes before too and I like them. For a fast-casual place, it's honestly not bad.

Nan Xiang Express South End just opened in the space that was most recently Bar Lyon, and it's quite a transformation. A surprisingly nice modern interior with lots of space and seating along the walls and in the middle with high-quality tables and chairs. You can order in their app, at a kiosk, or at the counter and food is brought out to you. My first visit I had hot and sour soup which was very good, and I also had the best XLB I've had anywhere in Boston... paper thin not at all tough excellent broth and excellent filling . Just superb . And everything is also affordable too which is welcome because it's increasingly rare in the hood. There is lots of variety this will be regular place for me

Honestly I keep coming back. It's the only fast casual asian in the area, so I find myself back here once a week. Always really clean and the staff are super nice. Food tends to lean on the saltier / oilier side, like the noodle soup, but everything is so good and cheap!!

Quick service. Food was good. Getting a table was a little challenging as it was a little busy but wasn't too long. Would recommend.

I went for lunch, so the vibes doesn't hit the same but I can see the evenings being amazing. I met family for an early lunch before I caught my flight back home. One of us has a nut and shellfish allergy and they were able to accommodate as best as they could, which I appreciate for an Asian restaurant. We ordered tea, which I enjoyed. We were started off with a cold cabbage in chili sauce and I was pleasantly surprised. It's got vinegar and chili oil, so you have the mix of tangy, spicy, and add to the crunch- Wow. I went home and tried to look up a recipe because I loved it so much. We also shared the wonton with chili sauce which was delicious as well. The boiled chicken wasn't bad but it is a simple cold dish- so don't expect boiled chicken to be a warm dish. The sweet and sour pork was good. Next time, I'd like to try the steam egg and truffle. I probably wouldn't order the chicken again, but give me the cabbage starter and wonton in chili sauce all day, everyday.

Every time I passed by, it was packed with customers and there was another long queue. This time, I specifically went on a weekday at lunchtime and managed to snag the last single seat. The food is definitely top-notch. Traditional Soup Dumplings (Pork): Dumplings were supposedly steamed to order, and I waited quite a while, but it was worth it! The soup inside was clean and brimming, each could fill an entire porcelain spoon. It was with the fragrance of chicken broth, light and umami, but not transparently sweet--just right. The meat filling was also tender and delicious, with no porky taste, which was especially rare in America. The only downside was that the skin was a bit thick and rough and hardened after steaming. The dipping sauce was ginger, soy sauce, and vinegar; I'm not sure if adding soy sauce is actually a traditional way to eat them-- I suppose Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang people often just simply use ginger and vinegar. Scallion Dry Noodles with Fried Egg: This was the first time I'd had sweet scallion oil dry noodles; it reminded me more of Huzhou-style gantiaomian乾挑麵(dry-tossed noodles). But coincidentally, I also really love that! The noodles were smooth and chewy, coated and infused with sauce, while without being watery. The seasoning was a simple, direct and rich sweet and savory flavor with the aroma of scallion oil. The scallions were fried perfectly-- until crispy and fragrant without being burnt or bitter. It was so delicious that I even ate all the scallions... I also specifically asked the restaurant to make runny-yolk fried eggs, which greatly enhanced the taste when mixed into the noodles.

Service is your standard Asian spot, and the inside is casual - a step up from hole in the wall, classic Chinatown vibes. Our tummies all felt a little funny after the meal, LOL!

Shanghai Classic Pork Pan-Fried Buns上海生煎饅頭: I was instantly hooked! It's hard to imagine finding such good pan-fried buns in the US. Almost every table ordered them, so they were all freshly made, piping hot. The bun was made with unleavened dough, making it chewy and refreshing, with a light, crispy bottom--not oily or hard. The meat filling was substantial and tender, with plenty of broth (see picture). It was sweeter than salty, incredibly umami. The chili oil was also very fragrant, and dipping it in Zhenjiang vinegar enhanced the flavor and cut through the greasiness. Shredded Pork & Preserved Vegetable Noodle Soup雪菜肉絲麵: The noodles were thin and round, with a soft, mushy texture. While the noodles were clearly machine-made, this isn't a problem in the Yangtze River Delta region; the issue was likely overcooking. The shredded pork were well-stirred, with tender meat, but the noodles lacked flavor. They had to be eaten with the pickled mustard greens雪菜 to be slightly salty, and the umami flavor was severely diluted. The tableware is all disposable, and tipping is not mandatory. It's quite affordable.

Staff was very knowledgeable about each entree, and provided information about how entrees were cooked and served. They also had a "halvsies" menu of half-size portions (ideal portions for one or two diners). Started with the Mama Chang Pork Dumplings, which were excellent, and the cauliflower appetizer (a little spicy, but very good). Liked the udon noodles with chicken and bok choy, although a little less red chili pepper would have suited my tastes better (good for those who like a bit of zing to their food). The lettuce wrap chicken was well worth the 20-minute wait. Finished with the lemon ginger mousse, which was very light. The fortune cookie on the mousse was fresh and crisp, so good that some thought it might have been baked at Joanne Chang's Flour Cafe and Bakery. The finish was extra nice, with a red lucky envelope with chocolates accompanying the check, an orange at each table (signs for good fortune in the New Year), and red decorations hanging in the restaurant to create a festive setting. The interior is very cool, cozy, and the cool red paint design on the glass windows makes it all feel very charming and comfortable. We did have a bit of a wait for our table despite having reservations. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share between the 4 of us - scallion pancake, bourbon chicken wings, spicy salmon rolls, pork belly buns, sliced beef, eggplant, hot n sour soup, golden potato and lemongrass soup. I think my favorite of those was the eggplant dish - perfectly cooked and flavorful with ginger and soy. Wings were good too. The soups were nice I liked the hot n sour one. The lemongrass soup was a creamy one quite tasty but also quite filling and rich. For entrees, we ordered the roasted soy glazed salmon, the Indonesian fried rice, bok choy and surf and turf noodles. Everything was good. We were all so full and also had leftovers. But decided to order dessert too - everyone loved the vanilla bean ice cream (the menu described it as a parfait) with orange granita - really generous too - 3 scoops of ice cream and the orange sorbet which was more granular than a sorbet more like very finely crushed ice. Very refreshing! The banana caramel crème brûlée was really good too - nice and creamy. The lemon ginger mousse was very creamy but I thought had a bit too much of ginger. I think the deserts were hands down everyone's favorite part of the meal despite everyone pretty much denying they wanted any! Service was very friendly by our server Julie who was delightful! Lovely young lady. Overall great experience!!
