I've been there a few times prior with no problems; however, today was a complete nightmare. Went there for breakfast while passing through town, and experienced the absolute worst food server, along with meal I have ever had. Food Server was old and could detect that she may have been suffering some dementia; after being seated, it took nearly 15 minutes to even be acknowledged. Finally, when our food finally arrived, it was stone-cold; she never returned; other customers experienced the same problems. As other customers tried tracking this old food server down by the name of Jody; all she could say is I'll be there after a while and then walked away. Finally, when I asked about management, I was told that there they had no arrived, yet. The time was 11:00 a.m. Will think twice about going there again! read more

We stopped here because my aunt doesn't do fast food. The staff was very friendly and treated us like regulars--and it looks like a place that "regulars" would go to. I ordered eggs and hash browns for lunch which was really good. I loved the hash browns! My daughter had their curly fries (they don't have vegan options) and she devoured them! This was the second attempt in a month that we tried to fly from Sacramento to Willows for what we thought would be a nice dinner adventure. The first time we called ahead at 8pm thinking we had plenty of time for a 55 minute flight an dinner. Luckily we called as restaurant employee stated they were closing early because it had been "slow". The website says 10pm. Knowing the restaurant doesn't stick to its hours now, on the second attempt we left Sacramento after 7pm with plenty of time to arrive by 8pm. After flying in, we approach the restaurant only to see the restaurant closed again with a sign in the window stating the a/c went down but they would reopen at 5am the next day. As we walked away a truck driver joked, "they didn't want to work late tonight". Nevertheless, we walked across I-5 and had a wonderful dinner at the Chinese restaurant. They gladly seated us at 8:45pm - with a posted sign that they close at 9pm. read more

This place is a great little gem tucked away next to the airport. We had 6 people and my old take back was the wait to get the food but they were busy so it's to be expected. All the meals we ordered were delicious. I personally had the chicken fried steak with mash potato's. Being from the south I just had a feeling and I'm glad I ordered this because it definitely hit the spot! Perfect seasoning and portion sizes. Right at the Willows airport. Easily accessible if you fly in for a breakfast, brunch or lunch - park your plane at transient parking and Nancy is 50 steps away. Great selection of traditional American food and staff is friendly and attentive. I had a melt patty and the patty did melt in my mouth! Good aviation theme in the restaurant with vintage airplane photos. Just love the atmosphere! Amazing food, friendly service, and an adorable little place. So glad I decided to stopped here! Made the drive from Sacramento to Redding on a Saturday afternoon and got stuck in some awful traffic on the I-5 (about 2 hours to get 11 miles). By the time we got out of it, we were SO hungry. Decided to give Nancy's Airport Cafe a shot instead of going through a fast food drive-thru and eating in the car. And it was a GREAT CHOICE. I had the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad. The crispy onion rings were VERY tangled, making it difficult to eat and the potato salad was a little under seasoned, but it was all still delicious! This food was so great that it even inspired me and my family to come up with our own pulled pork fries to make on family movie night! We ordered an entire Blackberry Pie to go for the following night. The airport memorabilia is very cool, the whole cafe smells amazing, the food comes in large servings, the staff is all very friendly and attentive, and I left feeling very full, very satisfied, and very much planning on stopping here again! read more

On this particular evening, we called ahead and the staff was nice enough to have a nice table ready for our big group of 15. When we arrived, the server was personable enough and willing to split our check for us. The place is a small little cafe with pictures of airplanes all over the walls. They have a salad bar, which is nice. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, which was only ok. It came with cream of spinach soup, and that wasn't incredible either. The chicken wasn't very flavorful in the quesadilla, and it seemed like there was a lot of dark meat in it. I was happy they let us sub fruit for the fries in the kid's meals - my kids really don't need to be served french fries with their Mac n Cheese. Our friends had the taco salad and The Works omelette. They said the omelette was good but topped with Kraft Singles, and the Taco Salad was tasty but my friend wasn't happy that the ground meat was cold. I was unimpressed with the food even though the experience wasn't all bad. However, I AM kinda bummed that the Black Bear diner across the way was incredibly packed - Black Bear was our first choice tonight. I definitely won't opt to come back to Nancy's again with Black Bear so close by. read more

Stopped off at this little 'shack'. Parked with the 18 wheelers, cars & all the local Sheriff vehicles. 'Hello', I thought 'what's going down here?'. As it happens not very much. The cops were just stuffing their faces. It was a Yelp recommendation. Food was very good. Susan's chicken was moist. My fish, shrimp, etc weren't over cooked - just right. This is a review by a vegetarian I like waitresses. I don't mean 'servers' or 'dining captain's I mean lipsticked, hair back, gum-chewing, everybody's name is "Hun" waitresses. They have a couple of them here as well as a menu that is the country crossroads equivalent of the massive tome at Cheesecake Factory. Plus there was a guy at the next table wearing baseball cap with a spoiler on the back. Breakfast is served 24hr/day, 363 days/year. Onion rings were crispy AND greasy which is the perfect combination for everything (I'm marrying the first woman I meet who can accurately be described as having both characteristics). Fussy DC cleaned her plate of quesidilla. Pie is made in-house or is at least in-da-house. Can't really go wrong stopping here on a road trip or the Black Bear on the other side of the highway if you'd prefer a slightly more antiseptic experience. read more

Some days, it is hard to imagine you aren't living a bad movie script. I was headed home from seeing my parents in Redding and got to Willows to fuel up. The temperature gauge on my car shot to hot, hot. hot, and steam came out. Gah. Two hours later, I was dropped off by the tow truck driver at the only place I could think of in town that might be air-conditioned and might welcome a women who needed to wait two hours with a fifty pound bag of stuff by her side: Walmart. Well, Walmart doesn't have a comfortable place for a person to sit for two hours. But Nancy's., across the street, does. I walk in. Some bright, cheerful lady behind the counter tells me to sit anywhere. I sit. She says, "how you doing?" I say, "Grumpy and hot." She says, "Well, then suggest a beer or a glass of wine." I like this woman. I give her grumpy, she comes back with a cheerful remedy. I feel terrible that I forgot her name, but this blond lady, about the same age as me, was just peachy. She chatted the appropriate amount, was super-friendly and was one of the people along the way who made my day better than what it could have been. The place-- the place was great. Lots of pictures to look at, cooled with plenty of swamp coolers and fans, (at least as cool as Walmart!) and comfortable. The food, well, the fried chicken was great. Flavorful, crispy and plentiful. The corn on the cob was from frozen and wasn't all the way warm. The barbequed beans were dry and not very flavorful. I would stick to to the fries, next time, I guess. The salad bar was a treat. I'd make a point to go back here. Best place for a sit down between here and Redding. read more

I've read through the other reviews and I agree with them. For a small restaurant they have a diverse menu. And truth be told there are some things they do better than others. Since I've been here many times I'll just list my general impression instead of a rundown of my last visit. Broaster Chicken: Crispy shell, moist meat. And when you first take a bite the chicken will be very hot and you will burn your mouth. I usually get this when I go for dinner and I've never had a bad batch. Though I would say they should season the chicken a tad more. It's one of those things that you can only get at Nancy's and I tend to get it every time I'm up at thunderhill. Soups: Can't have Clam Chowder (shellfish allergy) so I usually get the vegetable beef. It's homemade. Broth is very meaty with small chunks of ground beef and sometimes it has frozen vegetables and sometimes it's fresh vegetables. (depending on the season). It's very...very...GOOD. I don't crave it like the chicken, but l usually get it instead of the salad bar. Breakfast: Standard run of the mill food. The Coffee is good. Haven't had anything bad or truly exceptional either. Want an American style breakfast, you won't be disappointed. Steaks: Oh Nancy's how you torment me with your beef. The prime rib is good. Steak sandwich nice!. Steak dinner...ugh. I like my steak rare/medium rare. And Nancy's cooking surface is just not hot enough to do this right. The beef is decent quality but when I get my steak its either nice crust and toast in the middle. Or rare in the middle with a pale outer. I've been disappointed too many times to order it again. Pies: Get the pies in season, and often. I don't know what they do to these things but they're addictive. Fruit pies when in season are made with fresh fruit. Get them! This place USED TO awesome! The chicken fried steak ... The biscuits-n-gravey legendary. Now ... something awful has happened and this placed has hit an all time low. Stopped in today (01/09/2016 @ 5:30pm) surprised to see an empty parking lot at the dinner hour. I have been here more times than I can count ... Usually for breakfast by lunch and dinner too and this place is almost always packed. There was one other couple eating and two tables just finishing up. The service was terrible!! Ordered hot herbal tea. It was stone cold. After waiting for TEN MINUTES in a nearly empty restaurant I finally was able to flag the waitress over. At that time I also pointed out the sugar container had hard sugar and if I could please have another (I had already exchanged it with two different tables and those both had hard sugar too). She never brought me sugar. She never brought the cream I asked for when I ordered the coffee. We both ordered eggs and bacon and toast. It was A W F U L !!! The over medium eggs we both over cooked. Cold, rock hard toast with sloppy barely there butter added. (((in a nearly empty restaurant!!!!))) Nasty soggy hash browns. Bacon ordered crispy ... Bacon received BARLEY COOKED!!! we were mid long road trip ... We were starving ... I have to admit I was a little skeptical pulling up to this place. Something about it's location and it's exterior had me thinking twice. I'm glad I decided to go inside, not only because of the gorgeous country boy who smiled at me when we went in, but because it was deeeelicious. Mama and I were in town because the Bf and the Brother were racing at Thunderhill and we were starving. Our waitress Trisha (?) was so charming and personable, she had us laughing the whole meal. I ordered a cup of coffee with a waffle and Mama got some sort of omelette with their country potatoes and a HOMEMADE biscuit. The coffee was great but my waffle was just fine, nothing spectacular. Mama really enjoyed her breakfast, especially the biscuit. The bill was less than $20. So with that kind of service, food and prices, Nancy's gets 4 stars! Ps. The food here is hit or miss depending on what you order. This review is combined of our 2 visits here. Both times the service was friendly and efficient. The food is what really brings this place down to 2 stars. We tried really hard to like this place and give it a second try but it still didn't work out. Our burger was overcooked and our french fries were not fresh on our first visit but the pie was astounding. On our second visit the chicken strips were awful, comparable to the budget kind you would buy at a large grocery retailer. Our side of BBQ sauce we ordered was absolutely dreadful, it looked like someone's science experiment with jell-o and BBQ sauce went horribly wrong. I still can't believe they brought it to the table, if I worked there and that's what the cook said was sauce I would have thrown it out and told the customer we were out. Another order at our table had items mixed up between plates, not sure if that was the kitchen's fault or the server's. The wife did say her spaghetti and meatballs were good. Only 1 person in our party ordered pie and he said the crust tasted funny. I now see why this place wasn't packed with locals at dinner time on a weekend night. read more

LOVED IT!!! This is the deluxe version of what I refer to as the good ol' greasy spoon aka roadside diners! I loved it! 3 of us had their Chicken Fried Steak this or that for brunch, and let me tell you it was fine good all Americano cooking! The gravy with bits of sausage was perfect and not overly salted. I had roasted type red potatoes perfectly cooked and hay,they actually cooked my eggs over medium! Unlike most restaurants that simply do not know what "Over medium" is! The bisquit sucked. It was not flakey and sort of rubbery from microwaving. Get toast!!! The coffee was weak (2 star), but on the brighter side they provided you with real half and half. The waitress was so-so service wise, with letting the coffee cups be empty. On the more bubbly side she has a fine future waiting tables at this fun restaurant. She had these cool eyelashes! I really liked this place, and if you have even a hint of Americano in you, do stop off and eat here! My only regret is not spending more time looking at the airplane pics on the wall! Growing up as a kid, my family flew often XC across the great USA as my Dad had a Piper Aviation business and this place brought back happy memories! I know I shall return! read more

What can I say, I had really low expectations for this diner joint. I mean, it's kind of not only in the middle of nowhere, but within this small town, it's literally in the middle of nowhere, off to the side, next to a small airport. The place had it's lights off too, but they explained to us that because it gets so hot, they tend to do so just to keep the temperature down. I walked around and looked at the pies in the case, and didn't think very much. AND THEN the food came. and it was amayzing. My friend got a burger, and it was juicy, and the bread seemed like it was practically home made. SO GOOD. My other friend and I split a 4 piece broasted chicken, and it was cooked to perfection. The garlic mashed potatoes that came with it, i don't know what that gravy was, but it was delish and complemented the chicken perfectly. The cornbread was also great with honey. Since everything was so good, we decided we should try the pies as well, and both of them were great. Don't be fooled by this place. Sure, their presentation might not be top notch, but the flavors definitely are. Lastly, I recommend that you sit on the inside of the restaurant, not on the outside part, like we did. There was a pesky fly that bothered us throughout our meal. This place will definitely be a stopping point for us again if we're on our way up north again. read more

Stopped by one afternoon on our way from Redding to Southern California with my two kids back in July. We were trying to find a place to eat that wasn't too fast food-y. This came up on my phone as decently reviewed and rated so we pulled over to eat. I could kind of get over the amount of flies all over the place (to be fair, it is in the middle of the Chico area in summer, so I was willing to just swat my way through my late lunch), but then my daughter saw mice coming into the restaurant and they were NOT SCARED at all. Just running through the place, going back and forth through a hole near the back door. I just can't. Nope. During the daytime, when you see rodents or roaches, it's just not cool. We got up and left before placing our orders and headed to the Black Bear Cafe just down the road...which, as far as we could tell, didn't have a population of mice running through their place during daylight hours. read more

Nancy's has been around since I could remember. I am now in my late 20's and Nancy's is still going strong. I was visiting some family in the Willows area and we decided to go to Nancy's for lunch. The menu holds a little bit of eveything. Burgers, soup, salads, breakfast...you name it. If anyone has spent anytime in Willows, you know that this is one of the only restaurants that is not a chain. The service has always been friendly and accommodating. Stopped in here on a drive down from Oregon. The place itself is a bit run down, quaint and filled with locals. The regular customers seemed to get better service overall. We had burgers. They were very large. We also split a slice of chocolate cake, which we found to be way too dense. I wouldn't recommend trying it without ice cream to neutralize the flavor. People seated nearby seemed to have better luck with the pie selection. The waitress was a bit short with us non-locals, and oddly rude when I asked to tack the gratuity onto the bill, when paying with plastic. She insisted on cash and acted as if I was an idiot for asking. Weird. read more

Flew in here (literally!) for some late night grub and a pie to go. What a terrific little place! The ladies in here were all very welcoming and made us feel right at home. Clean and neat as a pin and the food was crazy good! Huge portions and just down home goodness here. Local color and good food. We were sent here by the Best Western where we are spending the night. They gave us a discount when we told them. It looks like a shack from the outside but inside its warm and friendly. We were very happy with the quality quantity and price. It really is a cafe next to a little air field and the decor reflects that. The walls are covered with old photos of people and planes from the past of this tiny airport. We were the only new people there. Everyone else seemed to know the staff. Several people asked the waitress how her birthday was last week. Our only choices for dinner were this place and a chain restaurant. We are so glad we went with this place. It was great and one of a kind. read more
