This restaurant is one of the best in the locale. I love the fusion and flavors: Indian and Indian-style Chinese food! Chicken Manchurian and Hakka noodles are my favorites.

Visited the place on a Sunday evening with friends and was a lil underwhelmed with the experience. Like most restaurants they seemed to be short on staff so the service was slow (appetizers came at a reasonable time but the main course took a while). Food was ok - we got the paneer tikka (which was ok) and gobi manchurian for appetizers. For the main course we got chicken manchurian, chicken tikka masala and szechwan fried rice. All were ok.

So each time I've gone here it's gotten better and better. There was a time about a year ago where the food wasn't the greatest but even since then we decided to give it a few more chances and the food is just outstanding. The service is great, the appetizers are great, they could be a little more generous with the pours of alcohol they put in the cup but other than that it is a great spot. We always get their lamb chops, mixed grill, chicken tikka masala naan and some other dishes. The inside is beautiful as well. I definitely recommend Nanking for an Indian or indo Chinese food.

The negatives at this restaurant clearly take away from the positives. The menu is extensive (Four Stars). I enjoyed what I ordered (Three Stars). However, the restaurant is grossly overpriced for the small portion of food received (value for the money - One Star). The decor is tasteful inside, but the tables appear to be too close together for private conversation (Three Stars). The restroom is down a full flight of stairs, through a small hallway, a turn and up three stairs, clearly not well suited for the handicapped (One Star). The wait staff, one lady was friendly and pleasant, the other man and woman were not (Two Stars). Your dining dollars can go much further at other restaurants.

    Sneaky bill.

Unscrupulous swindlers comes to mind here. Dined on a Groupon food was okay, but place looks like in need of deep cleaning. Faint lipstick marks on glass, smudges. Red fabric needed to be cleaned. Usually this place is dimly lit but for very early dinner, the sunlight was bright and you could see all the imperfections and dinginess. So here comes the check and we calculated very carefully how much our Groupon was for. The bill was for $1.07 + $9.84 gratuity!!! They arbitrarily gave themselves a 20% tip and didn't mention it and if you look at the bill closely they also had a line for gratuity and a calculated amount underneath. To add insult to injury when I paid w a $20 bill, he had the nerve to ask if I wanted change back. Whaaat? You expect an additional 9.09 tip? For a total of $19+ tip ??? Then when he gave me my change, he short changed me .09! I wasn't gonna argue about the sneaky 20% tip or shorted .09, but you can be sure I'm yelping and never ever coming back. My advice, don't use Groupon to take advantage of potential diners. I usually leave a good tip on groupons but resent you automatically assume you deserve 20% tip you don't deserve. We asked the mgr what % they calculated tip at and he said 18%, but after calculating, its clear he lied. He just arbitrarily padded the bill. Pretty pathetic and sad. Bad move. Low class swindlers.

The tandoori chicken was moist and flavorful. My favorite was the mango chicken, a bit sparse on the amount of meat to sauce, but wow! - so unusual and tasty. We also ordered Palak Paneer- excellent with nice sized pieces of paneer. Dal Tadka - mild but flavorful; Chana Masala - perfect balance of spices; and Eggplant Bharta- wonderfully smoky and delicious (a hidden gem!!) All the breads were fresh, tasty and generous. We especially liked the Tandoori Roti. If you have never had Amritsari Kulcha, try it out here! It comes with containers of delicious tamarind and mint chutney. We will definitely return and eat in sometime soon. My husband said the restaurant was very welcoming and looked very nice. Thank you for an exceptional meal!!!! Crystal Lal

I brought my parents here to try Indian food for the first time, and I was nervous for two reasons…read more- (1) my parents are conservative eaters and I was afraid they wouldn't like it, and (2) I myself had never eaten at this restaurant before. Either way, I was nervous they wouldn't have a good meal. But I held my breath and hoped that the reviews I'd read beforehand were accurate. For the most part, they were. The garlic naan was incredible. My parents went silent when they first tried it, then quietly maneuvered the basket toward themselves while leaving rice for the rest of us. The chana masala and chicken tikka masala were also spot on - rich, saucy, and flavorful. Our salmon tandoori announced its own arrival to our table as big chunks of delicate meat on a sizzling platter. The larger pieces weren't completely cooked through, but we just let them sit on the hot flatware for a minute or two more. Spice babies, beware. We requested 'mild' as the spice level for all our orders because medications have changed my mom's sensitivity to spice. Even then, the heat crept invisibly onto her palate. "I don't know where it's coming from," she said, fanning her mouth. Even as a spice lover, I could detect there a thrum of baseline spice in most of our meals. You might want to temper the spice the way we did - by ordering a mango lassi. I've yet to meet a mango lassi I didn't like, Punjab's included. Here, they include a drizzle of something jammy along the sides of the glass. I didn't think it necessary (the lassi by itself is already fantastic!), but great for those who like their drinks sweet and photogenic. Inside, the restaurant space feels like what I'd call 'upscale casual'. It's nice - in fact, it's a lot nicer than a lot of Indian restaurants I've been in. But it's not the kind of 'nice' that makes you feel like you can't grab a meal here in your sweatpants. There's no dedicated parking lot, but there are a good number of spots along the nearby side streets (just pay attention to street signs that designate no parking days and times).

The price is amazing, the portion size is fantastic, and it was delicious! Recently, we tried the weekend buffet, which was amazing and totally worth it! It's $18 per person but the selection is really great, with both vegetarian and meat dishes offered, and two dessert selections. What I love is that some of their dishes have a kick to them and feel more authentic than other Indian restaurants I've eaten at with respect to the spiciness. While I'm not a fish lover, I loved their fish pakora! It is so flavorful and super easy to overeat. While I loved all of their buffet dishes, the fish pakora and chana masala were my absolute favorites with the butter chicken and paneer tikka masala tying for 2nd. The restaurant is very large and clean, and the servers are very kind and attentive. They were constantly refilling our water and checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. I have been a die hard raving fan for 12 plus years, maybe 14. The lunch buffet is a daily staple and just phenomenal for the weekend price of $24.80 including tax ( drinks and tip additional). What makes Jassi's in New Hyde Park the Undisputed Champ - 1) The food - the best fried fish ( named Amritsari) that is so good, so flaky and seasoned and prepared so well that that little mint sauce and a sprinkle of lemon will make you dance.. and sing!! I did. The bread - amazing! Hot! Fresh! The biryani - cooked perfect so the spices, veggies and chicken really blend in over the 5 plus hour process. The rice pudding- the real deal. The salad bar has all the ingredients- simple but very good. The raita - yogurt with diced vegetables and a little spice is brilliant and a perfect accompaniment as a salad dressing with the tamarind sauce or on top of the Indian nachos with chips, chick peas and potatoes. 2) The service - Suman is the mainstay and superstar. Been good and really special to my family pre Covid to present day. My grandkids love his energy and his sense of humor. He is just so attentive, kind and proactive. 3) The vibe - there is an ease and relaxed mood that makes this meal and experience enjoyable. 4) The price for this quality now in almost June of 2026. 5) They are open till midnight Friday to Saturday for that late craving. The Undisputed Champ!!!!!

Since our group was the first to arrive upon opening, it's possible that time wasn't allocated for the Chafing Dishes to fully warm all the food. I'm not a fan of hot food being served lukewarm, so that was slightly disappointing. To add to my disappointment Palak Paneer was not an option at the buffet. Something I haven't had in years. Instead, there was Shahi Paneer. This dish, also a part of the lukewarm trend, unfortunately offered dry tasting Paneer. Despite the paneer's dryness, I enjoyed the richness of the Shahi sauce. There was also Goat Curry, which turned out to be the best dish of our group as it was tender and flavorful. The freshly made Garlic Naan was a nice warm treat. Aside from a few misses for me, the seven of us getting together was a success. We ended up chatting amongst ourselves from my timings, had to be well over two and a half hours, while the inclement weather on Saturday, April 25th continued. I must add considering our long stay the staff was more than accommodating. Thank you Andie for yet another successful culinary intro. The food was surprisingly good and flavorful especially the butter chicken momos- better than soup dumplings, and the butter chicken was tender, gravy was creamy & tasty- really delicious with the basmati rice & naan. The girls loved the mango lassi & crispy chicken samosa- they devoured all of it. The grilled chicken tikka was not bad but what we didn't enjoy was the chicken biryani- it smelled & tasted funky, very spicy and came with a yogurt sauce to balance the spice- not worth $24 imo.
