We went there to try something different. The Ambiance was a typical Bar restaurant, plenty of neat things hung on the walls. They have live music, just check their website for details. We ordered some steamers... they were cooked to perfection... some wings... again cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the make your own salad bowl and it was just right. I ordered the Catfish Dinner which came with rice and green beans. The fish was just perfect, not dried out. Service was excellent, our waiter Jimmy was courteous and accurate with everything. A good overall experience. My only issue is food took a while to come out, maybe short staffed.... But I will return again! read more

Unfortunately, I would like to leave a harvest host review also but am unable to do to computer glitch. I'm leaving a review here because we had the best time. They allowed us as harvest host to come in early, which was a good thing because this is a happening place. If we had not gotten there in the time we did, we would've never been able to park there. They have a giant parking area, but as I said before, it's the place to be in town for people 20 to 50 years old. They have outside beach volleyball, horseshoes, and other games. The daytime bartender was amazing. I recommend the food also as we did not have anything that wasn't extremely tasty. If you have a chance to have the blueberry beer, do it. read more

Went to Nanola (on 4/7/2024 for the record) for the first time. This was also supposed to be a nice birthday dinner for myself, but it ended up being a disaster. It wasn't the food that was the issue. I had a nice fish fry and some solid wings. Their fare is tasty enough, if a bit pricey. The real problem was the music and the service. Problem #1: My party was first in line at the "wait to be seated" area, but no one came to seat us. After a while, we walked further in to where some EXTREMELY loud rock music was being played and finally found someone to help us. The woman informed us that she wasn't an employee, but she would help us get seated anyway. I think she was a relative of one of the band members. Problem #2: When I say it was loud in there, I don't mean "It was kinda loud and slightly off-putting." I mean, they were handing out free earplugs. I'm saying it was SITTING IN THE FRONT ROW OF A ROCK CONCERT LOUD. Even though we were seated a good distance away from the stage, I couldn't talk to the rest of my party. We could only hear each other in the brief pauses between songs. Problem #3: Our server, who seemed to be one of only a couple waitstaff working that night, somehow managed to correctly take our order despite the insanely loud music. We facilitated this through a combination of yelling and pointing at the menu. However, because they had almost no staff, we waited 15 minutes just to get water. Then another 25 minutes before food arrived. And we were bombarded with insanely loud music the entire time. In retrospect, we probably should've moved out to the patio, but then, I'm not sure we would've gotten anything. Needless to say, when the food finally arrived, we ate as quickly as we could, paid the bill and left hastily. I want to be clear that I don't blame the waitress for any of this. I actually felt bad for her, running around like a chicken with her head chopped off and trying to interact with customers when no one could hear themselves think. Nor do I blame the band, because they were just doing a gig. I mean, they were an amateurish cover band performing a set they'd learned by playing Rock Band on Playstation, but I happen to like classic and alternative rock, so I normally would've found some measure of enjoyment... IF MY EARS WEREN'T BLEEDING AS I TRIED TO EAT! Whoever owns and/or manages this place is at fault. Decide whether you want to be a restaurant or a concert hall. Keep the volume of the live music to a reasonable level. Hire enough people to run your business. Seriously, get it together. read more

We stopped in to check the spot out for a special event. We loved the really fun atmosphere. They had a lovely big bar, ample seating, a billards room, and a dart board. They even have a stage. They have specials that include $1 oyster Thursdays, Taco night. Karaoke and live music on the weekends. We ordered the blackened chicken sandwich and shrimp po boy. I loved the fact that they were blackened and not breaded shrimp, and they lemon aioli was to die for. I like that the fries were seasoned and crisp. For beverages, I got a dirty Shirley, and my husband opted for a regular Shirley Temple. Service was prompt, and they were happy to accommodate our allergies and wishes. We definitely will return to try the jambalaya and gumbo. They also have alligator bites and beignets. read more

I never walk out of a restaurant but I did leave this one Saturday night. Went there because we were huge fans of Slidin Dirty and heard they were running the kitchen. We ordered the avocado fries and some food. 15-20 minutes later the avocado fries arrived and were no where near the quality expected. After another hour, and some pretty lame excuses from the server we left. We will not be back. The Public House down the street was great though!! read more

I have to remove a star for the extremely long wait - two hours for just a salad and a quesadilla - but the staff was friendly and apologetic. We stopped in today for a quick bite to eat. We chose it here because it's dog friendly. The waitress/bartender was very friendly and attentive! She even brought out a bowl of water for our dog. The steamed clams for $15/dz were soaked in an awful juice of some sort! Gator bites were chewy, not flavorful the dip was like mayonnaise! The white chicken wings were extremely dry, bacon was way over cooked, the jambalaya looked like vomit, tasted like the chicken was soaked in propane. Seems to be a very popular place at least on Thursday afternoons during happy hour. I believe they do 25 cent wings on Thursdays during h.h. (11-7 every day except Sunday), so yeah, that's probably why. They run a standard h.h. beer pour special of buy one get one half off, and that's every day of the week from 11-7 except Sundays. Not bad. They have 24 libations on tap, most being craft beers. I tried a couple of different ones that I uploaded pictures of. Some of the beers on tap the day I visited: Founders Breakfast Stout, Shmaltz 518 Foggy Goggles IPA (which I really like), Barrier 6 American IPA (also very, very good), Sloop Liquid Sorcery, several Goose Island drafts, a Sixpoint, and a Singlecut (out of Queens, NY) Beersmith's IPA (also excellent!) and obviously many more. They certainly do food here, but this time 'round we didn't order grub. The interior decor kinda reminded me of New Orleans, but wasn't super convincing...and that's ok. I like that they have a sizeable stage in the corner and obviously bring in live music acts as well. Next time I'm here, I'll try some food and do and updated review. Beertender service was quite good and friendly, despite the fact they were busy. The two women running the bar were attentive and patient as we made multiple choices and both checked in with us multiple times to make sure we were all good. Nice. read more

Why isn't this rated higher? This place isn't bougee but it's comfortable and fun. The dry rub Cajun wings are absolutely delicious. Good beer and drink selection. Got some hard kombuchas too! Caters to our vegan friends with various options which is nice when you want some meat but want to have the whole crowd happy. Fun atmosphere and cool chill staff. Ordered Austin style white wings, supposedly chicken stuffed with jalapeños and mozzarella wrapped in bacon with their special Nanola honey mustard. Received 4 smaller than a ping pong ball bacon wrapped chicken? Hard to tell as it was dried out, no jalapeño or cheese visible and miniscule amount of sauce. When I asked for more sauce since they were dry as dust I was charged another 50 cents!! Combined with VERY small glass of white wine which costs $9.00 this is probably the most expensive worst dining experience I've ever had. I will never, ever go there again. What I paid for an inedible appetizer, 2 glasses of wine plus tip would have gotten me a steak dinner at Delmonico's. read more

The bad. Their "shrimp and grits" isn't shrimp and grits. That said, I'd like them to try some real shrimp and grits! The good. Everything else! The live music tonight (Up the River) was great! The jambalaya had a nice little spice to it. The gator tail (I think they call it gator bites for some reason) was real good. The beer on tap was pretty cold. The waiter (the tall dude) was incredibly awesome. He had a table of 12 and I didn't see him write a damn thing down AND every single order from drinks to entree was spot on (and we had special requests to make it more difficult). I'd certainly pick this place over the other restaurants in the area. Great job y'all. read more

I'm only sorry I found this place in my last day of working on a project in the Malta area! I love this place! An excellent assortment of local and national craft beers. Several excellent Cajun choices on the menu. I rather reluctantly chose the jambalaya as I'm a bit of a snob about Cajun dishes. I've been disappointed by what some restaurants outside the Gulf Coast call "jambalaya." Nanola's offering was excellent! Served with steamed clams. (Ok, slight breach of Cajun etiquette as clams aren't really available in Louisiana! But it was a good substitute for oysters) The staff was very friendly and attentive. I also stopped in at Happy Hour, so my second brew was 50% off. They also have a live music scene here, though I left before the band started as I had an early flight to catch the next day. Wasn't sure when we walked in whether the food would be good - definitely a bar crowd. The appetizers and main courses were absolutely delicious, the service wonderful. Being from the South it's always hard finding true Southern food, but Nanolas NAILED IT ! Shrimp and grits excellent, over delicious polenta. Chicken n Biscuits heavenly. All delivered by Bradley, a wonderful host with "southern" hospitality (even though he's from NY). You won't be disappointed dining at Nanolas. We'll be back soon ! read more

I initially stopped in just for a drink. While I was there I found out Dueling Pianos was playing. I decided to stay a bit and see what they are all about. While waiting and having a drink the bar service was slow. Unless you are a regular I noticed you had to ask every time you wanted a drink. They'd bring the drink and leave my glass with ice empty. I would have to ask for more ice to poor my drink over. I'd like to say it's because they were busy but that wasn't the case and there seemed to be at a minimum three girls behind the small bar at any given time. On to Dueling Pianos; wow! They were actually pretty good and a lot of fun. I couldn't stay for the entire performance but what I did stay for awesome. They really got the customers involved. I will definitely seek them out and listen to them again. I will try Nanola's again - everyone deserves a second chance and slow service isn't the end of the world. I've been coming here off and on for years; last summer I came in with a friend and had a killer catfish Po-Boy. That, of course, is the sort of thing that makes you a repeat customer, so, sho 'nuff I came back a month or two later, but this time was served the tiniest excuse of fish hiding in a giant roll, which made me wonder, "Did you just run out of catfish or are you trying to disrespect me?" I still wonder. So that sort of thing - lack of consistency from the kitchen - leaves me uncertain as to whether I will return for the same thing, or at all. There was a great roadhouse vibe from Nanola when Bestie and I walked in. We sat at the bar in the cavernous tap room, with a band setting up on stage. There were a couple of couples already sitting at the bar, a party of about sixteen people at a long table, and great tunes blaring from someplace above us. Our server came right over and dropped menus in front of us, and gave us a few minutes to peruse it. Let me say this: Other than a Hurricane and a frozen daiquiri, the featured drinks had none of the iconic cocktails that New Orleans is famous for. I would have expected a Ramos Gin Fizz or a Sazerac on the list, but, nope, mostly locally popular concoctions. I asked the bartender/server if she could make a Sazerac, and she said she never heard of it, but she could look it up. I asked if they even had Absinthe on the bar, and she looked. Yes, they did, but not Peychaud's Bitters (accept no substitutes - Angostura Bitters do not work in this cocktail). If they didn't have that, then they wouldn't have the orange flower water for the Ramos Gin Fizz. But, I digress. We ended up with a glass of wine each, and looked at the menu. It was a fairly decent combination of Cajun and bar food, and we made up our minds quickly. Bestie ordered Angels on Horseback (oysters on pork belly, served on slaw), and Crawfish Hushpuppies. I decided on fried pickles (one of my favorite bar foods) and Jambalyla. We asked for everything to be served together, and our server went off to place our order. The other bartender gave us sharing plates and utensils, and also slipped us a couple of Saturday Happy Hour coupons (buy one, get one 1/2 off) when she learned we were visiting the area. Food came out fast, and we dug in. The pickles came with a horseradish sauce, and were hot and crispy. The Hushpuppies, about six good-sized balls of deep-fried goodness, had a not-too-spicy sauce, similar to a remoulade. Bestie dug into her Angels, and offered me a bite. The combination of the plump oysters with the fatty pork belly was delicious! My Jambalyla was filled with pieces of andouille and dark-meat chicken (too many places use chicken breast, and the flavor's not the same), and the barest hint of file in the sauce (which is missing from most jambalylas I've had up north). I finished everything quickly, but Bestie's eyes were bigger than her stomach, and she took about half of her food with her. I saw Beignets for dessert, and had to have them. I inquired about chicory coffee (which is about the only beverage suited to sip with Beignets), but they didn't have that. However, the fried dough covered in powdered sugar were fine alone. If we had more time, or lived closer, we would be working our way through the menu: Gator bites, catfish, po-boys, muffulettas, etouffee, gumbo, and oysters anyway you can think of. Still, a 2 hour drive is easier than flying down to Louisiana. When we go back, we'll make sure it's a Friday night for Dueling Pianos. So, I thought the food we tried was pretty much spot on. Service was awesome, and the band was great. My only suggestions are to tweak the drink specials a bit (or even just have a featured NOLA cocktail of the night), and add chicory coffee as an after-dinner option--there's nothing like a Café Brûlot after a meal of Cajun food. read more

Anywhere I go, I always try the fried pickles. 99% of the time, restaurants overbatter pickle chips. Nanola is the rare exception that also serves pickle spears and the batter is light and crispy. They are now my gold standard when it comes to fried pickles and I order them any time I visit. I also much give them kudos on their wings. They are always nice and crispy and the Nanola sauce is delicious. When the weather allows, dining out on the deck is my favorite. As far as a great place to relax and be with friends while enjoying a great meal and countless craft beers, Nanola certainly tops the list for me. Can't wait to be back there again! read more

I was drawn to Nanola by their Thursday specials: $1 oysters and 25 cent wings. I'd already decided what to order as my entrée: the quarter muffuletta sandwich, a Nola classic. So I walked through the door with high hopes, anticipating a tasty and well-priced meal. The atmosphere is bar-ish. Actually, at 1 pm I was the only one of a dozen patrons not sitting at the bar. (Maybe because happy hour begins at 11 am.) The background music is too loud. It feels like a good place to unwind after work, less good to chill quietly and have a conversation with friends. There is a big stage next to the bar, and during live music time you would be pretty much obligated to watch and listen to the act (though there's a separate dining area toward the back, with a wall separating it from the bar area). The oysters were fresh and good-sized (if opening the shell reveals a tiny oyster, I believe the kitchen should toss it out or put it in a stew, not count it as one of a dozen) but there were bits of shell throughout, suggesting an inexperienced shucker. And the cocktail sauce was semi-solid (possibly recently thawed) with very little flavor. The wings were fine, medium spice as requested, and obviously a bargain. However, they were served bare, no carrots or celery and no dipping sauce. I need those extras to eat my wings. The muffuletta was huge, even though billed as a quarter sandwich. But there was too much meat and not enough olive spread for my tastes. I googled muffuletta pictures and discovered there is indeed a tendency to see how high you can pile the meat (contrary to Central Grocery, the gold standard, which is broad and flat) but there's usually enough condiment to moisten the loaf and balance the flavors; not the case here. Also, some parts of the sandwich were warm but others were ice-cold. I found that off putting. I got some slaw with the sandwich which was really good... highly recommended. (I had asked for it as a sub for the fries that come with the sandwich but got both, with no upcharge.) I took half the quarter sandwich home and going to heat it up, with some of my own olive spread, for lunch tomorrow. I drive by this place all the time on Route 9 and am glad I gave it a try. I'm rating it A-OK but with part of that based on the value. Update: the next day I had that left-over 1/8 muffuletta for lunch and it was tres bon! Peeled it open so the cheese was on top, toaster-oven 15 minutes at 350, then added a slather of olive salad on each bread surface. It was great and makes me think one should try ordering this at Nanola and specifying "warm, with extra dressing" to see what happens. Also, I wanted to mention the service was quite good during my visit. There was just one server working the bar and the room and she kept everything going with minimal wait for courses. read more

Trivia night seems fun with a great host from EQX, and our waitress did a great job of trying to recover the bad taste in our mouths after sitting at our table for 25+ minutes without a visit from any staff followed by an unpleasant interaction with the hostess when i went to ask for help during minute 23. All members of our party agreed that the reaction to our table by the staff (prior to our waitress) felt a lot like snubbing/judgement. We were originally planning on staying for trivia and the music to follow, and after much deliberation at our table, we decided on appetizers and a pitcher to share, and if things got better we'd stay around for dinner. The beer we ordered off the menu was kicked, which you know - happens, but still had an impact on how we felt about our experience. For appetizers we ordered the fried pickles and sweet potato fries, both were B/B+. Oh! And each of us received a different version of a beer menu, two of which were old versions that were not accurate. This made being a first timer a little more frustrating than normal. And things did not get better. So we left during round 2 of 6 of the trivia game. Bummer. read more

Went to watch football and have drinks and appetizers! The food "beef nachos" was good. The drinks are over priced. But the worst part was I got so sick in the restaurant. I have severe allergies to dust mites, this place is very dirty! I was so disappointed because it has a nice vibe. But when you get so congested from the dust you cannot enjoy yourself. I cleared up about 10 minutes after we left. Bathroom was very dirty too. We won't be back . Unfortunate as it's close to home and has the football package! read more

I've driven past this place dozens of times and finally got the chance to stop by there today for lunch, parking lot was fairly full. So took that as a good sign. There are pros and cons with this review. Pros: Got seated quickly, of course at the time it was seat yourself. Atmosphere looks pretty good, stage for music it appears. A decent crowd was there for lunch with 2 large groups. Ordered the Shrimp Po'Boy, it comes grilled but preferred fried, whatever, better for my health I suppose. The Po'Boy was excellent, though. It came with a side of Saratoga Chips and a small amount of slaw. Everything was good, although the sandwich was advertised on the menu as spicy, didn't really notice any spice at all. The shrimp was large and plumb, cooked just right. Chips were hot and crispy and the slaw was just creamy enough. I'd recommend this sandwich to anyone, may get it again if I ever go back. Cons: There were 2 fairly large groups(at least 6-10 people per group). Not sure if they were understaffed, busier than usual or what. But the service was atrociously slow. I'm a patient person and if those things I mentioned are going on, I can understand it. All I ask is to be informed that my meal may take longer than usual. The girl didn't bother to. Had 3 guys come in after me and got their order well before me. Now, they did order the jambalaya, so that could've sped things up. Still, nothing from the waitress about the status of my order. Did they have to go down to the Gulf to get the shrimp? Price: sandwich came with about 4 or 5 pcs. of large shrimp, L&T and sauce, side of chips and slaw for about $14 bucks. A little overpriced, imo. But that's USNY for ya. I may give this place another shot. It would be solo as the wife isn't a fan of cajun food. Reading a previous review, seems the service has had issues before. Maybe Mgmt. can clean that up, be better staffed at all times and have the waitstaff be more transparent in cases of busier than usual days on wait time. read more

We were greated at the hostess stand and welcomed to the restaurant by the floor manager Eric. He immediately brought us to our reserved table right in front of the band stage. Our waitress Lacey (sp) was friendly and smiled the entire nite even though it got crazy busy when the music started. The food was well priced and good sized portions. Entertainment was excellent and people were friendly. Looking forward to the warm weather when we can enjoy our delicious Deathwish Margaritas on the deck! read more
