This place was so good, their service was amazing and the food was presented so beautifully!! We got the pork broth, tomato broth, and chicken broth. We also got various meats, veggies and noodles. I was going to post anyways, but our server told us that if we make a post on social media that we could get free stuff! It was relatively busy around the after at 2pm but the service was pretty quick!

This might be my favorite hot pot place in Flushing so far! I highly recommend trying their hot and tomato broths they were both so flavorful. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the prices are very fair for the quality and portion sizes. Definitely a place I would come back to again!

So I was looking for all things themed panda and saw this as a wonderful place to go before Citi Field for a Mets game. It is in Downtown Flushing which apparently has become New York's better Chinatown for food. This is one of two American outposts of the Nanshan Hot Pot chain from China with the other in Bayside, Queens. We walked in and were greeted by very friendly staff and adorable pandas. I am glad we made a reservation since it was quite busy for an early dinner at 4:30 on a Saturday. Our waitress was amazing and ensured the broth had no pork or shellfish due to my wife's allergies and my kosher customs (although I eat meat out and now some shellfish but not shrimp). We got the spicy fish broth as our main hot pot and the fruit as the smaller side one. The spicy was a bit much for us but we still finished most of it. We had various meat including brisket and loved every bite and sip. To drink they had some bartenura in a can such as peach and lychee on menu (but substitute rossato) that I have not seen in Maryland so that was wonderful too and shows cultural appreciation towards us Jewish people. I really hope they expand to Chinatown in DC that is struggling and this would be so successful.

The service was nice even though you order through and iPad. She refilled our broth, waters and checked in on us, and then packed up our leftovers to go. The place is cute but imo overpriced and I didn't find the variety of ingredients or the ingredients themselves to be that great compared to other hotpot places. A few of my usual favorite hotpot ingredients were nowhere to be found. I was not a fan of their broths either. I think this place focuses on its aesthetic more than the food. Not bad. But I probably won't return with so many other places to choose from.

I was interested in coming to this hot pot place for the panda theme! I found it interesting! As someone who really likes meat and protein, they do have some variety of meats and seafood. However I felt like their carbs section was a bit more limiting. I do like the service though!

They gifted him a panda for his bday!

Flushing has a plethora of hotpot establishments erecting, so quality of food and service is really what sets them apart from each other. This spot is hard to miss because they normally have a dancing giant panda right in front. Bear in mind (pun intended?), this isn't an AYCE spot, so ordering a la carte can add up quickly. Most of the ordering can be done via tablet; it's very user-friendly and rather straightforward. You have the option of choosing up to 3 broths. We initially wanted to opt for 2 broths, but the size of the pot didn't really make sense; there was a small and large side to the 2 broth pot and we didn't have a preference to the broth yet. We opted for 3 broths (pork broth, tomato, sour soup) because of the even portion size. The broths were all very fragrant. Pork bone broth was my favorite, with the perfect amount of herbs. Tomato broth had a potent tomato flavor, so I would not recommend if you're not a fan of tomatoes. Sour soup is actually spicy, which we were very surprised about, but this wasn't too bad. One gripe I had was that they took forever to bring out the broth for some reason. We ordered a wide range of protein -- angus beef, beef slices, beef tongue, lamb slices, and fish; most of it ranged from $8.99 - $16.99 per order. I honestly could not tell you the difference between the variety of beef, but the beef tongue was definitely a crowd favorite. We also ordered the usual hotpot items such as fish roe balls, dried bean curds, quail eggs, wood-ear mushroom, fish tofu, enoki, AA Choy, vermicelli and handmade noodle; all which were very standard. Loved the wide vermicelli noodles, but you could hold off on the handmade noodles. These items were reasonably priced, at about $2.99-$6.99 per item, but they also charge for usage of sauce bar. While I do think the quality of most items were solid, I don't find myself visiting here often. You could probably get better quality items at a similar price range in the area. The restaurant itself is cute though, especially if you love giant pandas. -- BUT ALSO, why aren't there personal metal/heat friendly spoons to use??? Why are we hotpotting with plastic spoons?

We went to Nanshan Hot Pot because I'm a big fan of pandas, and the panda theme is cute and fun. Unfortunately, the overall experience didn't meet expectations. This is not an all-you-can-eat hot pot. We got the three soup base pot, which was good, and the ingredients were fine, nothing exceptional, but solid for a hot pot. We were seated in the basement, and I would strongly recommend asking for upstairs seating. We barely saw any servers during the meal. Since everything is ordered through an iPad, they only came by to drop off food. The dessert was good. There were also a few concerning issues. I kept feeling water droplets at our table, which we realized were coming from condensation off the A/C unit above us. That was bad enough, but what bothered me was that the droplets could've fallen into our soup without us even knowing. On top of that, a spider dropped into one of my friend's plates, and with no staff nearby, we couldn't even notify anyone. In the end, while the theme is cute and the ice cream was great, the poor service, basement seating, and questionable cleanliness made the experience feel off. I don't think I'd come back unless there were clear improvements.

Got nanshan takeout so three different kind of mala tang. Everything tasted okay but favorite was definitely the tomato broth one. Everything tasted like it was built upon the plain bone broth which was definitely the worse. The portions are pretty big and overall the order was prepared pretty quickly. The restaurant was pretty busy so might come back to try their hotpot

Yummy hot pot! Nanshan is not AYCE, and it's a bit pricey but the meat quality is very good. The plum pork and the lamb were both very good. I also liked the crispy pork trotters as an appetizer. I liked that you can have up to 3 different soup bases - the tomato was my favorite! The staff are very friendly, and the service is fast. It's casual and cute inside, with lots of panda-themed decorations.

This place was very clean. I liked they had 2 vegetarian broth options however there was not a lot of options to put in for vegetarians. Dessert& sauce bar add on is a great option. Wish there was more than one fresh fruit option. The dessert bar was very unique & had was my favorite part.

This is our second time to visit Nanshan Hot Pot. Last time we went to the Bayside location. The food is fresh, delicious, and presentation is beautiful. We could select three soup bases for our hot pot, which is amazing. Staff are friendly and ambience is nice. We had a good evening.

The cutest hotpot place filled with pandas. You can get three broth, my personal favorite is the tomato broth. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. The sauce station has free appetizers and desserts. The service is always prompt and friendly. There are tons of hot pot places in flushing now, this has been my go-to ever since it opened.

If you get the membership (currently $28/year), it pays off after 2 visits and you get 3000 points (worth a free meal) on your birthday. I got the Gold menu (the middle option), which was enough variety for me. Honestly after a few plates of meat, they all start to taste the same so it doesn't matter what cut of wagyu you're eating. There is a buffet of vegetables and side dishes that you can help yourself to, along with a soda machine and a watered-down tea machine. Nothing too impressive here. Overall, worth visiting if you have the membership and you really know your different cuts of wagyu. Otherwise, if you just want AYCE hot pot, there are plenty of other places in Flushing.

The prices on the windows are very confusing and more like false advertising for me, the lower prices are for the members which we're not since this is our first time and definitely our last, unless our daughter wants to come here again. So the price is the more expensive one. For me, I prefer straight forward pricing, so this didn't give me good vibes, it's not the money, just the way they advertising and we have to know what we can only have with the price we chose. The restaurant just gives us the specific menu for what we selected to have then we don't have to be denied for what we chose because we selected gold instead of top of the line menu. The place is clean and nice. For $78/per person and only have Australian Wagyu Beef (not really Wagyu) then it's over priced. We did have some premium beef which I liked because of the marble of fat on the beef quite tender and tasty, but only a sampler or whatever they called it. Service with one person is quite inadequate but she's very attentive and pleasant, since she had to run the whole restaurant, sometimes forgets things. The tomato broth was good and everyone liked it. The seafood plate is OK and our sweet shrimps are sweet. Some snow crab legs, jumbo shrimps, fish fillets, nothing to make me go wow. The appetizers tempura is crispy and good. The raw octopus is tasty. The vegetables are fresh and clean. After they denied me the premium beef sampler, I let my daughter to order everything else and I just enjoyed with the family. My daughter seemed to be happy and ate a lot, so I was happy. I've eaten enough shabu, hot pot to know that Australian or American Wagyu are overrated, many of them are tough and chewy, not as tender as normal ribeyes or Brisket that I like. This restaurant Wagyu beef does have marbles of fat in it, so it's tender and not so chewy. So, for the GOLD menu, I don't think it's worth the $78 but for special occasions, it's OK. I just don't like the confusion of many menu, many prices, and not getting my own menu and get denied for something on the menu because I didn't pay enough.

We were seated promptly, since there was no one else waiting to be seated, and the wait staff was quick to arrive and get our items into the sacks (to keep our stuff from smelling like hot pot all day), and helped us place our order. We got two broths-- mushroom and spicy (mild heat). Y'all, the mild was too hot for us and we were scooping out the peppers out of the broth to make it manageable. The wait staff noticed we were suffering and said the trick to eating spicy hot pot is to dip it in oil, and even brought us some. IT WORKS. Anyway, 10/10. Chong Qing Lao Zao is a never-to-be-forgotten absolutely amazing hot pot restaurant…read more I will offer my own extensive comments at the end ... But the Eater review of Chong Qing Lao Zao absolutely nails it. * * * Eater sez: Fans start lining up well before the wooden doors swing open at noon, eventually to walk through corridors that lead them to a bi-level dining area that evokes an old Chinese village, complete with a water wheel, koi, and a faux fire at the foot of each table. One private section is elevated on stilts. Chongqing Lao Zao stands out from the high concentration of nearby hot pot spots -- Hai Di Lao, Liuyishou, 99 Favor Taste. * * * Samuel C sez: a) Like many hot pot restaurants, there are lots of exotic ingredients including all parts of many animals. I did lots of those included thousand layer tripe and beef liver coated in egg. At this restaurant, simple is actually better than exotic. The most famous boiling oil (there are nine to choose from) is a scorchingly hot Chongqing drowning in hot peppers concoction. The oil is hot as blazes in both senses of the word. The simpler the ingredient we put in the oil, the better the results were. Plain old Chinese Cabbage was to die for. Plain old ramen noodles and plain old fish cake became superstars in the hot oil. Thousand layer tripe, not so much. b) Shiitakes are not such a plain ingredient. They become ultimate gourmet delights in the hot oil. c) All the tables around us were ordering some form of Wagyu beef roll. Or rather all the Chinese tables were ordering Wagyu beef rolls. The Anglos were more random. I suspect the Chinese customers were on to something. d) It is tempting to order tons and tons and tons of ingredients for your hotpot because they look so damm good. In practice, three hot pot dipping items per person plus a side dish for the table will leave you waddling out of the restaurant barely able to walk. If that means you just have to come here multiple times to get all the good stuff, Well ... multiple times is not such a dumb idea. e) You definitely want at least one side dish. We ordered a Fried Sesame Bread with Chinese green onions inside. That was the best thing on the table ... On a day when there were a zillion amazing things on the table. The Chinese tables often ordered a fried rice with spicy organs inside. I strongly suspect that fried rice is well worth doing as well. f) They make their own rice wine which is sweet and very milky. They sell it by the jar. You want a whole jar of it. If your table has sake lovers in multiple, you will want several jars of it. g) The room decoration is magical between the sturdy oaken village-gate door, to the waterwheel inside to the stairs and levels and platforms which make you feel like you are in a mountain village. The room would have made this a destination experience even if the food had been mediocre. That the raw ingredients, the prepared dishes, the wine and the boiling oil were amazing sends Chong Qing Lao Zao over the top. * * * Does Yelp offer an eight star rating? If it starts one, Chong Qing Lao Zao would be first in line to get the eight star rating. Even with all the amazing restaurants in Flushing's Chinatown, This is one experience you do not want to miss.

On top of that, they even have authentic Dole Whip, so you don't have to wait in line at Disneyland to enjoy it! I've been coming to Spring Shabu Shabu since they first opened years ago, and they have never disappointed me. If you're looking for a huge variety of freshly made noodles, fish cakes, vegetables, and other hot pot essentials, this is the place to be. Although it's AYCE (all-you-can-eat), meats, seafood, and drinks are not included. Honestly, with all the options available at the buffet, it's more than enough for me. The fresh ramen is usually my noodle of choice, but there are so many great unique flavors that you really can't go wrong. Today, I tried the chili garlic and curry noodles, and both were delicious. The curry flavor was light and subtle, but you can definitely taste it when eaten on its own. The chili garlic noodles had a nice kick that I really enjoyed. If you're new to hot pot, this is a great place to start. Everyone gets their own individual pot and can choose their own broth. My family and I prefer not to share because we all enjoy different ingredients and flavors, so having a personal pot allows everyone to customize their meal. I love spicy food, so I always order the Mala broth. The service here is excellent. Special shoutout to Wendy and Jamaica for always being so friendly, attentive, and welcoming. My family and I truly appreciate your hospitality every time we visit. Is it loud? Yes, but not "concert loud." The atmosphere is lively, the music is great, and it's very family-friendly. It's also perfect for large parties and gatherings since there's a separate private room near the entrance. Tips for First-Time Visitors: Most of the parking spaces in the front large lot have been blocked off, so give yourself extra time to find parking around Flushing. Make sure everyone in your party is present since the entire group must be present to be seated. Once seated, place your order first, then head to the buffet area to grab your food. Don't forget to stop by the sauce station near the entrance and create your own dipping sauce! Finally, save room for dessert! Soft serve ice cream: Matcha, vanilla, lactose free vanilla and the famous Dole Whip! Choice of cup or cone. Bottom line: Spring Shabu Shabu continues to be my favorite hot pot restaurant. The total bill for two adults came to ~$74 We ordered two sets of pendant bread () for takeout, and we left a $10 cash tip on the table. Almost immediately after placing the cash down, the waitress approached and asked if it was a TIP making a VISIBLY DISPLEASED expression before walking away. As we were leaving, I was confronted by the owner or head manager (me and him spoke Thai) inquired what was wrong with the service. He stated that the waitress had complained about the TIP amount less than 10%. We explained that we had not included the approximately $30 takeout order in our tip calculation, especially considering it was a buffet restaurant. A quick calculation would have shown that the $10 TIP represented roughly 15% on the dining portion alone, and the waitress's primary contribution during our visit was simply providing water and choice of 'appetizers'. I gave them 5 stars on google and yelp 6 years ago (going to delete it) I have always recommended this place to my boss and colleagues from NY, NJ to PA But I will have to retract my recommendation to them after this. I REPEAT 'DO NOT COME HERE' We will NOT be returning. While the food itself was decent but the UNGRATEFUL ATTITUDE and handling of the situation completely ruined what had otherwise been a pleasant meal. I REPEAT DO NOT COME HERE! They will not appreciate shit from you if it TOO LITTLE (for them). This incident was HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. I wish I can get my $10 back. Just because you want more, then you DESERVE NOTHING

Instead of ordering a preset meal, you build your own bowl with exactly what you want, choose your broth, and let the kitchen do the rest. The build-your-own concept is what keeps me coming back because every bowl can be a little different, and the signature Golden Beef Bone Broth is absolutely worth trying. My Taysty Tayke: Get Down & Dirty, Expeditiously: Golden Beef Bone Broth The broth is rich, comforting, and packed with flavor without feeling too heavy. Every ingredient you add picks up that savory beef flavor, making the entire bowl better from the first bite to the last. One of my favorite parts of the experience is grabbing the tongs and building my own bowl. There are so many fresh ingredients to choose from that you can customize it exactly how you like it. I paired mine with chili oil, which added just the right amount of heat without overpowering the broth. Whether you choose the soup-based option or one of the dry styles, it's hard to go wrong because the entire experience revolves around creating your perfect combination. Service: Quick, efficient, and beginner-friendly. The ordering process is simple, even if it's your first time trying malatang.
