I've had this in China and was super excited for it to come to America. Walking in, it looks very similar to Chongqing Laozao, old time China aesthetic. They don't have that many options for types of veggies but they did have seaweed seedlings, something I was excited about. I got the super sour soup but it didn't taste that good. It was more like tomato soup with some sour. It wasn't spicy at all and the seaweed, normally my favorite part didn't taste good with it. The beef was very good though, I would recommend getting the marbled beef if you can. They also had a sauce bar with a couple of side dishes. They were all very yummy.

Bone broth (牛排骨湯), hot and sour broth (酸湯)

What is Guizhou hot pot? To be honest, I've been wondering this since I first saw this new-ish hot pot place open up a few months ago, and even after eating here, I'm still not entirely certain how to answer this question (other than some vague notions of sour broths). Anyway... My friend and I came by around 7pm on a weekday - there were still a handful of tables open for us, and I don't think there was ever a wait - but that might vary on weekends. I liked the interior decor -- lots of touches of "traditional" (aka old) Chinese architecture - and overall the place was quite airy and spacious, despite being in a windowless basement. (At least I don't remember any windows.) We ordered the hot and sour soup broth (貴州老凱里酸湯) and beef bone broth (牛排骨湯) for the soup bases. The server suggested that we could taste/drink some of the broth as it was warming up / our food was arriving --turned out to have been a great idea, because the broths were honestly so delicious. The mix of the pungent sourness (I assume the crux of the Guizhou aspect) and a hint of spiciness was fantastic, and actually the flavour was so fragrant and permeated in the ingredients that we felt we didn't really need any of the dipping sauce for the meats that we had cooked in the sour broth. The beef bone broth was also really good - rich flavours of the beef rib 牛排骨 throughout, and also there was so much meat? Like at least 4 or 5 huge pieces (at least 1-2 plates' worth). We ordered a pretty typical assortment of hot pot ingredients -- some highlights were the "special sliced beef" 酸Q肥牛, which despite being one of the cheapest options, was fantastic (and a classic) and the "hot pot wide noodle" 火鍋寬粉 - very chewy and tasty. We also ordered the spicy rice tofu 辣拌米豆腐 (one of our server's suggestions), which was yummy but also kind of anti climactic, since it basically just tastes like liangfen 涼粉 (especially in the chilli oil sauce). Price point was pretty solid -- it came out to be around $40-50 for each of us, which seems to be the prevailing rate for hot pot in NYC nowadays. We were both really full at the end of our meal, too -- really happy with the quantity and quality of the food that we ordered (could probably have gotten a plate or two fewer). There's so many things on the menu that I was interested in trying but couldn't, so l'll definitely have to come back again, hopefully with a bigger group to try even more dishes next time :)

Tbh I'm not a huge fan of Guizhou Suantang hotpot. But I think they did a good job. There are a lot of food options and they're mostly delicious. Service was very good. The restaurant is clean and comfy. It's a good spot.

This was my first time trying Guizhou hot pot. We tried the hot and sour broth which was very sour and barely spicy. Personally it's too sour for me to drink. We all liked the mushroom broth better. All the ingredients were fresh and high quality.

But you definitely need to order more. Each plate is like 4-6 thinly sliced meat. The food overall was quite good. I highly recommend the sukiyaki broth, our group all enjoyed it. The golden broth on the other hand was quite mediocre. There's also free drinks and you get ice cream at the end. I do think the service is a bit slow and they don't clear empty plates often. But there was really only one server that day and she was working hard. Overall: pretty decent value for the price!

Would you like to be transported back in time to ancient china?…read more How about just testing your spice tolerance to see if you can hang with the best? Well, if you want all of that, PLUS hot pot, look no further - this is the place to be! There is a reason this is one of the highest recommend spots to visit when you're in Flushing. First off, entrance? SO UNASSUMING. It's like, the tiniest door, with no real obvious signage. Once you go through, you basically feel like you're in one of the ancient alleys of China - decor is 1000% great. We had a larger party of 7, and they were luckily able to accommodate us since we lined up a few minutes before opening on a Friday. We actually got IMO the best seats in the house - towards the back, elevated up on some steps, a mini pavilion essentially. But enough about the decor.. how was the food? Well.. GREAT! And honestly, for NYC prices, not too expensive (but a bit pricy for flushing I guess). The quality was top notch (highly recommend trying the mala quail eggs) and the spice of the broth was GREAT! We went with medium since our server (amazing btw, thank you Sean / Shawn / Shaun??) said that he can't even go near hot, it burns his eyes. Medium was just perfect - felt great eating it with some sweats, regretted it the day after, which means I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Meats were good quality, veggies were yummy. I wish the shrimp paste had more in terms of quantity, we barely had seven bites for each of us, but it was really good. Also, pro tip, probably don't order Napa Cabbage, a lot of their other dishes will sit on top of a whole leaf, so you'll probably get enough from that unless you want to consume half a head. Sauce bar is $2 a person - which might be shocking for some to know they charge it, but it's pretty much the norm at a higher end hot pot place in big cities. At least they don't charge $6-$8 like some places and only throw in a few apps/desserts to try to justify it. Overall, really loved this place, and would definitely go back.

They kept surprising us with little extras throughout the meal, which didn't feel gimmicky, just generous and attentive in a way that's rare. What really stood out, though, was something that happened before we even sat down. My family and I were outside juggling a bunch of stuff, and one of the workers noticed. She wasn't even actively assigned to us, but she came over, held the door open, and insisted on helping carry everything in. She didn't just drop it off either--she walked with us all the way until we were seated. That kind of effort, especially when it's not "required," says a lot about the culture there. Beyond the service, the value is just strong. The quality, portions, and overall experience easily justify the price. It's one of those places where you leave feeling taken care of, not just fed.

Ordered wagyu which was buy one get one free. It's a good deal since a decent amount came. The Angus short rib wasn't bad either. Lobster isn't usually what I order at hotpot but added a touch. Taro was flavorful. Even though it's a la carte, one can get filled fast. There is ice cream, fruit and jelly to seal the deal. Got some cute toys for saying the magic words to the wait staff. Big clean open space. Enjoyed for lunch since it wasn't overly busy.

There's often a long wait on weekends, especially during the peak lunch and dinner hours. Lucky for us, we usually eat early dinner around senior hours of 4pm-5pm and less waits. Our kids go to Goldfish swim school which is literally across from the restaurant. This is the most convenient choice for us to sit down and have a quick hotpot meal. The food quality is one of the best around the area in my opinion. The broth is comparable to the other ones around Flushing. You order via a tablet and the food comes out fairly quick. The service has been great every time we been here. The sauce station carries some snacks as well, such as pigs ear, seaweed salad, peanuts. I think this may change from time to time. I also recall them charging everyone $2 to access the sauce station when they first opened, but I didn't see that on my bill last week. A deal this good can only really be found the further out you go from the city center, and I was more than happy to take the hour long subway ride to Flushing for this veritable feast. It was fully packed the Wednesday night I visited, so I can only imagine what the waits must be like on weekends. One great thing about hot pot is that you can start eating pretty much as soon as you choose your soup base, and they were quick to get us ours. I noticed some reviewers complaining that the soup bases were flavorless but I found the miso broth plenty flavorful. The meats and vegetables you cook into the base also infuse some flavor into the soup, not to mention the sauces you get at the sauce bar. Speaking of, I often judge a hot pot spot by their sauce bar, and this was was pretty good. It's no Haidilao, where they offer actual appetizers at the sauce bar, and I found there to be a dearth of truly spicy options, despite there being several variations of chili sauce, but all in all not bad. None of the sauces had a real kick to them, save for the chopped up green chillies. Included in the AYCE are salads, several different types of noodles, several types of fish cake, mushrooms, lotus root, bamboo, squash, and other carbs like rice cakes. I got the $7 white fish add on and my friend added some meats to hers so we could get more protein in, and the portions were hefty. One thing that was noticeably missing for me were quail eggs, one of my favorite hot pot ingredients. The place is clean, and the food turns over quickly, guaranteeing you a fresh batch. I also had the lowest expectations of the soft serve, but the pineapple dole whip and matcha soft serve were winners, so much so that I went back for seconds. Great value if you enjoy hot pot.

'GO SOMEWHERE ELSE' We were extremely disappointed with our…read morerecent visit to this restaurant. Having traveled from Pennsylvania based on positive experiences Ive been here few times before, I expected a much better experience. The service felt off from the start due to I was speaking Thai and waiter/waitress likely judged that I do not speak English. My husband heard the whole conversation and it bothered him at the moment led him to feel unwelcome, but I told my husband that I don't care what they think so we can enjoy our meal. The overall atmosphere was rather strange for an all-you-can-eat buffet. The total bill for two adults came to ~$74 We ordered two sets of pendant bread () for takeout, and we left a $10 cash tip on the table. Almost immediately after placing the cash down, the waitress approached and asked if it was a TIP making a VISIBLY DISPLEASED expression before walking away. As we were leaving, I was confronted by the owner or head manager (me and him spoke Thai) inquired what was wrong with the service. He stated that the waitress had complained about the TIP amount less than 10%. We explained that we had not included the approximately $30 takeout order in our tip calculation, especially considering it was a buffet restaurant. A quick calculation would have shown that the $10 TIP represented roughly 15% on the dining portion alone, and the waitress's primary contribution during our visit was simply providing water and choice of 'appetizers'. I gave them 5 stars on google and yelp 6 years ago (going to delete it) I have always recommended this place to my boss and colleagues from NY, NJ to PA But I will have to retract my recommendation to them after this. I REPEAT 'DO NOT COME HERE' We will NOT be returning. While the food itself was decent but the UNGRATEFUL ATTITUDE and handling of the situation completely ruined what had otherwise been a pleasant meal. I REPEAT DO NOT COME HERE! They will not appreciate shit from you if it TOO LITTLE (for them). This incident was HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. I wish I can get my $10 back. Just because you want more, then you DESERVE NOTHING
