Recently I got to a stage on the project car (aka Betty) that it was time to turn to brake drums and I could think of no place better, or more economical to tackle this task. The downside? You gotta already have access to the base; but hey, a lot of my fellow yelpers fit that requirement. Oh, and you better not be afraid to get dirty; this place is hands on; they'll help if you really need it, but you are the labor and talent working on your wheels. Tire mounting and balancing, brake drums and rotors and the like, the onsite tech will handle the machine work for you, but you gotta have those things off the vehicle yourself. A bay or two are set aside for oil changes and other quick work, stalls and lifts are available for the more time consuming work. They have a storage area, for a small fee, if you need more than one weekend to get the job done. You don't own more than basic hand tools you say? That's okay too, there are plenty of tools available for use. You just gotta follow the rules of the Tool Crib. Parts of Betty and I will be back soon!

The signs are still up and the phone message is as if it's still open, but no one answers. We don't join the military to get rich, but there have always been things like MWR Hobby Auto centers to help save our pitiful pennies. This has been one of the perks I have enjoyed the most in my career. So sad to see it die.

Included in their offer was statement "Choose from several options that cover all aspects of brake maintenance including pads, rotors, and calipers. With expert mechanics handling each task efficiently within the DC Maryland Virginia area through mobile services, convenience is assured. You will benefit from detailed inspections that help prevent potential issues before they arise while enjoying reliable service from highly recommended professionals who prioritize customer satisfaction at every step." I bought "Experience KNEI Services' comprehensive brake pad and rotor replacements for front and rear with up to 50% off" and assumed it included the parts. It did NOT. I first contacted KNEI on May 7 to set up an appointment and KNEI said it didn't include the parts. I didn't complain and ordered all the parts for @$200 for the kit including bolts, pads, and rotors for front and rear brakes for my car. Told KNEI on May 15 I had received the kit with all the parts on May 15. I subsequently left 3 more voice messages (calls always answered by recording to leave a message) and an additional ten (10) texts between May 16 and June 5 again requesting that they suggest several times for an appointment and was completely ghosted except for 1 text on May 30 "you received all the parts?" --I had previously told them in 3 different texts I had the parts but I replied within 24 hours "yes, everything" and "Provided my VIN#, the Part #s and my address several weeks ago in previous texts" and have never heard from them again as of 6/16. Since my brakes were grinding and I had been trying to schedule an appt since May 7, I called another company on Friday June 13 whose website said they did brakes and they came out Monday June 16 at 9 AM and fixed my brakes using my parts. KNEI's link to their website still as of 6/16 goes to "404. That's an error. The requested URL / was not found on this server. That's all we know." Fortunately, I charged the Groupon to AMEX and sent them a .pdf of all text communications and reported my 8 outgoing calls with zero incoming calls and link to defunct website and AMEX credited me the Groupon cost. THERE IS A REASON KNEI Services had to sell Groupons. I finally found their website searching for "KNEI brakes" and it went to KNEI SERVICES website and under "services" provided it lists: "Services Offered Verified by Business Auto electronics installation Auto electronics repair" Says nothing about brake repairs. As of 6/16 I still have not heard from KNEI since May 15 (despite 10 text messages and 3 voicemails just since May 15) with exception of "You received all the parts?" on May 30. If you want to spend 6 weeks trying to get an appointment and then be ghosted, use KNEI. I would never let them touch my car EVEN IF they refunded all my money and paid me $1,000 to delete this review. AVOID KNEI SERVICES like the plague!!

WARNING TO BMW OWNERS: ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION…read more I brought my 2018 BMW 530i to Passport BMW after receiving an engine coolant warning and a brake fluid service notification. After their inspection, I was presented with a repair estimate exceeding north of $8,000. I was effectively led to believe that my vehicle required extensive repairs and should not be driven until the work was completed. What happened next is what concerns me most. Shortly after receiving this estimate, I was contacted by the sales department about purchasing another BMW. As a customer, it felt less like an effort to repair my vehicle and more like an effort to sell me a replacement vehicle. Fortunately, I sought a second opinion from an independent BMW specialist. The actual repairs, including replacement of the failed cooling system components, were completed for less than half of what Passport BMW quoted. The vehicle is now running properly, with no coolant issues, at a fraction of the cost I was told to expect. A difference of a few hundred dollars is understandable. A difference of several thousand dollars is not. To make matters worse, I was recently charged approximately $40 in E-ZPass tolls associated with a loaner vehicle that had already been returned to the dealership. Customers should not be responsible for charges incurred after surrendering possession of a loaner vehicle. I have owned BMWs for years and understand that dealership labor rates are higher than those of independent shops. That is not my issue. My issue is being presented with an excessive repair estimate, being made to feel that my vehicle was essentially unusable, and then receiving sales outreach shortly afterward. This experience has significantly damaged my trust in Passport BMW's service department. My advice to anyone facing a major repair recommendation from this dealership: get a second opinion before spending thousands of dollars. It may save you a substantial amount of money and help you make a more informed decision about your vehicle. Leadership at this specific dealership is unresponsive, and you'll reach a voicemail before a callback from the general manager.
