Me and 3 other lady friends of mine went wine tasting for one of the girls' very low key bachelorette parties in Napa and we had the pleasure of having Sarah as our driver. She picked us up at our hotel right on time and was super professional and organized and not to mention hilarious. I didn't even have to lift a finger to book appointments or prep for anything because she made sure that every need that we had was fulfilled. We literally got picked up right at our hotel and was shuttled off to wine nirvana. Additionally, these guys really know their stuff and brought us to some cool, smaller vineyards for quality wines at very reasonable prices (Robert Biale, Madrigal, Frank Family, Frias) More importantly they know how to avoid annoying crowds so that we didn't have to interact with Bentley limos piled 18 deep with living and screaming Barbie dolls and penis garlands (no joke, we really did see this, and the poor driver looked like he wanted to kill himself) I love these guys and will absolutely use their services every time I'm up in the area. My friend Sophie arranged a weekend in Napa for herself and her husband, and my fiance and I. Our plan for Saturday was a wine-tasting with a drive-your-own-car driver. This is really, AS GOOD AS IT GETS! Geoff and Napa Valley Wine Guides was the greatest way to see Napa. I found Geoff on here, THANKS YELP! And if you are shopping for a private driver or Wine Tour Guide on Yelp, don't look anywhere else. My special engagement/proposal weekend went off without a hitch. My new fiance' said YES on Friday, and Geoff picked us up in San Fran first thing on Saturday morning. We spent all day visiting some of the coolest wineries. He arranged everything! Appointments for private tastings with Sommelier's, Private tours of Vineyards and underground wine caves, lunch at Dean and Deluca's, and best of all, a friendly, knowledgeable guide who turned out to be a great friend by the end of the trip. Not only are their prices more than fair, but you get to drive around in a cool Yukon with plenty of leg room (Huge Plus for a guy like me who is over 6'3" tall). The scheduling was really easy, I just called him and it was done. He took my CC info, but didn't charge it until we were done with our tour. He does have a cancellation policy but he's not like some of the others that I called that have an enormous Non-Refundable Deposit. I've already referred him 2 friends who have gone up there, and if and when we go back to Napa, we will be calling him! Sarah drove our rental from Enterprise for us for two days when we were visiting wineries in Napa. Whether you have them drive your car or theirs, I highly recommend using them. Sarah is very knowledgable, friendly and courteous. She made some suggestions and we had some of our own thoughts. She helped schedule the visits and plan an itinerary that made sense, suggesting appointments when needed. We never felt rushed and if we were running over, she would call the next winery and advise them that we would be a few minutes late. We stopped at Oakville grocery both days, one of which we took the food to Tres Sabores for a special picnic lunch (reserved and set up for us in advance). Its money well spent, be responsible and do not drink and drive. I have heard that the fines for DUI in Napa are astronomical. Many wineries allow you to share the tasting which I highly suggest for some if you are going to several wineries in a day. If you taste too many, you will begin to lose the ability to really taste. Wineries also do not mind if you do not finish the glass. Wineries visited O'Brien Estates - tour and tasting Tres Sabores - tour and tasting while having lunch Frogs Leap - tour and tasting Del Dotto cave tour and extensive barrel tasting Joseph Phelps - terrace tasting Plumpjack - tasting Round Pond- food (3 tiny bites) and wine pairing Cakebread - tasting also, Hill Family did a wine tasting at our hotel. Reserved the "Ford Expedition" service for an all day outing in Napa over Labor Day Weekend. 8 hours, 3 couples, 5 wineries and lots of vino. :: pros :: Called a couple weeks before LDW and spoke to Geoff. I was totally stoked that they weren't booked for what I thought might be a busy weekend. Easy reservations and immediate email confirmation. On the day of our reservation, our driver, Sarah (Geoff's girl) called to say she was running 10 minutes late. No biggie. Though Geoff mentioned we'd be rollin in the Nissan Armada, Sarah pulled up to our hotel in a Denali. Think this might be a bit smaller, but it still had a 3rd seat and we were fine with the girls in the back. Sarah was great - Very polite and professional. She made sure to ask us what our plans/itinerary was when we got into the car and gaves us a heads up on what time we needed to leave winery A in order to allow for more time to get to winery B. We actually only planned for 4 wineries and ran ahead of schedule - a rarity after a tasting or two! Sarah was great in recommending a last minute stop for us and was cool about giving us a little extra time as she picked us up a little late that morning. ::cons:: None here! Had a really great experience and would totally use Napa Valley Wine Guides on my next group trip to Wine Country. A couple of other tips - Bring snacks (kettle corn was a hit in our car). Driver will pack a cooler with water. Also, you pay for the hours that you reserved so keep some options in your back pocket if you run ahead of schedule too. Geoffrey was our fantastic wine guide! We had a group of 11 people, and went to napa for a day of wining and dining. Geoffrey worked with me to create the perfect itinerary, as I had spent some time in Napa previously. He brought us to some very interesting spots, places I never would have thought of, and was great at fixing up our itinerary as we got caught up at lunch and in other places along the way. His rates are also way more affordable than most other wine guides...we ended up paying about $72 a person for about 9 hours, not bad at all considering what limo rates go for these days! I am planning another visit in June, and you better believe I'll be calling Geoffrey. My husband and I came to Napa for our anniversary weekend and had a phenomenal time thanks to Napa Valley Wine Guides!! This was our first time doing a full-day of wine tasting and we had no desire to do our own research. I reached out to Geoff a week before our trip and told him our likes/dislikes. Geoff's exact words were "I'll make you an awesome itinerary". Geoff picked us up from our hotel right on time. Considering it was just the two of us, we opted to have him use our vehicle. We went to a total of 5 wineries in 6 hours (crazy huh?!?!). All of the wineries were intimate and not overcrowded. Out of the 5 wineries Geoff scheduled appointments at 3 of them. We were busy leading up to our trip, so I was able to work with Geoffrey to tell him what kind of wine we preferred and our day and tour was tailored to that. Abbey was our guide and picked us up from our hotel. She did a great job of giving us space throughout the day and always making sure that we had everything we needed. Best idea ever: for substantially less than the cost of a towncar, you can hire one of these fine people to drive your car around the valley while you go hogwild on wine tastings. (Note: it does indeed also work on rental cars). I would enthusiastically recommend such a service to any one considering a weekend wine tasting - you just don't want to worry about who's driving home when there's so much good wine to be sampled. My wine strategy is to look for exceptional bottles in the $15-35 range. Though I'm sure wine gets better beyond that price point, I just don't seem to have a palate delicate enough to tell the difference. In California, I find this is best accomplished by finding wineries that aren't terribly well known and don't have a wide distribution. Sarah, our guide, was totally on board with that philosophy, and her knowledge of the region was really helpful. To be clear, we were not without glitches, which was largely due to the fact that I was asking them to go to some areas they weren't familiar with and wineries they hadn't visited. But the glitches weren't a big deal. On my particular trip, I knew exactly where I wanted to go, but they'd be a great service if you wanted them to plan a trip for you, too. read more

This is probably the greatest idea ever - being able to hire someone to pick you and your friends up in a limo and drive your group around the valley to tour the wineries and get a good buzz :) Can't ask for anything better right? I thought this was an awesome idea because my friends and I were worried about which one of us would have to be the "designated driver" and not drink. And c'mon now, who would really volunteer to go wine-tasting and not taste the wine? Definitely not me! =P Luckily we stumbled upon the yelp reviews for Napa Valley Wine Guides and booked them immediately for our tour. It was definitely a success too! At first, they had ran out of limos and offered to pick us up in a SUV. We weren't too happy about that but took the offer anyways because we already chose the day we wanted to go. We really really wanted the limo since we were all first-timers there and wanted to go all out. Geoffrey was great though - since he had no limos at the time, he gave us a cheaper price for the SUV (instead of 65 an hour, he offered it at 50). Then a few days before our tour date, he gave us a call and told us he had an 8 passenger limo. Wooohoooo! The normal price for the limo is 75/hour but he still kept the 50 dollar rate and gave the limo to us for that same price. Awesome service right? :) So there we were, in Napa, 6 of us cruising around in an 8 passenger limo. That sure made our trip all the better. The size was perfect for 6 because it was nice and roomy still - 8 wouldve been a little crowded. The limo had complimentary iced water bottles for us and lots of wine glasses to use in case we bought some bottles from the wineries and wanted to drink in the car. We went to 4 wineries over a 5 hour period. All gave its own unique experience and we favored some over others. Each winery had a tasting fee that varied as well and we definitely felt some were a lot more worth it. But overall, it was a nice experience and Geoffrey was very accommodating to our wants and needs. He was extremely patient and friendly and made our trip to Napa very memorable! read more

I was stuck in the same position as I am every time I go to Napa. Do I book a wine shuttle that locks me in to some rigid schedule with a bunch of strangers, take it easy on the tasting and drive, or splurge on the towncar? None of these options seemed too hot, so I did a little research and stumbled across NV Wine Guides. Geoff came and met us where we were staying and carted us around all day like we were drunk teenagers with a super cool older brother who happens to know a lot about wine and local wineries. As something of an indecisive, bumbling jackass (these traits are magnified after 8 glasses of wine), one of the biggest challenges for me when doing wine tasting is deciding where the hell to go next. I have stacks of maps, jotted post-it notes in no particular order, and printed out pages of internet research, but when the time comes to make a decision I've got nothin'. So, in addition to the obvious benefits of avoiding DUI's, my favorite perk was being able to count on Geoff to help us decide where to go next. Feel like some champagne? Boom, you're on your way. Maybe a good pinot and a fun tasting room? Check. Being able to give a vague, totally incoherent direction and have it recognized with a "Yeah, we can do that" is a really nice feeling. Geoffrey was simply awesome. After all of my research, this really was the best deal in town, and really made our trip. We did the "in your car" and were simply blown away. We only had one reservation for the day, and Geoffrey really did take care of the rest. We hit 5 places, and could not have been happier. His knowledge of the area and winers was awesome. He personally knew many of the people at the wineries we went to, and he often made the reservation (most places not open to public) while we were doing another tasting. We did not have a chance to research wineries much before we left, so we depended on him to show us wineries we otherwise would not have discovered on our own. He arrived early for our day trip his SUV is nice and comfortable. When he picked us up, he asked a few questions about what we liked and we were on our way. Geoffrey has a great knowledge of the area and is known and liked by e owners and staff at all of the places we stopped. My bf and I have been coming to Napa annually for the last 5 years and always splurge on a town car. We decided to try a new company and selected Napa Valley Wine Guides thanks to yelp. The reviews had been good so I wasn't worried but as soon as I hung up the phone with Geoffrey I found I had very high expectations simply from the phone call being so great! No joke, he was so pleasant on the phone, the reservations were easy to make, and he considered it a "challenge" to show us a great time since we had been coming to Napa for so long and have visited so many wineries. My husband and I have both been to Napa three times and the last time we went in June, we decided to let someone else do the driving. After looking at the positive feedback and having a great first conversation with Sarah I knew they were it. Sarah made several recommendations based on the types of places we wanted to go. Geoffrey was the one who picked us up and was even early. We went to the following wineries...Frazier, Obrien, Hill Family, Cliffe Lede, Schramsburg and Frias. Hands down the most fun and personal experience we ever had. I am so glad we took his recommendations because we had never heard about the wineries but all were so unique in their own way, we couldn't pick a favorite. All in all if you want to be treated like royalty, get great pours, have an awesome informative guide and someone to drive, Geoffrey is the BEST!!!! He definitely knows the places to go and once you are there, you forget he is even with you. They are VERY reasonable for the service you are getting...Also, we didn't have to pay a single tasting fee so we got to spend what we would have if we'd gone on our own on MORE WINE!!!! After a hella year in Law School, my fab friends came out for an sf/napa/sonoma trip. WE HAD A BLAST. I am not interested in driving myself around for a wine tour, nor did I want one of my friends to do so. I've taken limo/bus companies and they are good, but this concept is awesome. We already had a rental car, bc there were four of us and my car only seats two. Geoffrey and his gf Sarah will drive YOUR car (whether rental or your own) for a substantially lower fee. GREAT IDEA. I like to organize our own tour (wineries I/we know, love, want to go to) but they will organize it for you, make suggestions, whatever. As I mentioned, we had a rental, it was from Budget I believe, rented in sf. Sarah just met us at the Budget office in Napa and was able to sign the paperwork so she was a legit driver on the rental. They have also worked it out with Enterprise. Definitely ask them about this prior. You can also communicate with them via email napavalleywineguides@yahoo.com, the guy's name is Geoffrey Pope. If you are already renting a car or have a car, this is an absolutely GREAT solution. They were pleasant and friendly, and Sarah is just the right combo of expertise, listening, and talking (because believe me-we talk ALOT ourselves and don't want to be with anyone that isn't ok with that or who tries to take over the convo) I highly recommend them. She picked us up promptly at 11am and was super friendly and sweet from the moment we met her. I emailed our itinerary beforehand so she knew exactly where to go and also had some suggestions along the way. Sarah really knows the Napa area and can plan your trip for you or just go where you like. She dropped us off by front doors of wineries and was also two steps ahead of us when we were leaving! After two weeks of on-line wine tour research, we decided on Napa Valley Wine guides to take our party of 4 around Napa. The pricing is substantially less than most of the other companies found on-line, and we liked the sound of the "off the beaten path" style of winery tours the website promotes. We were looking for a more intimate wine tasting experience, rather than hitting the big named wineries. Geoffrey was our tour guide (I use the term tour guide loosely, as he felt more like a great friend driving us around Napa and hanging out with our group) and he was amazing. Since we had a large rental car, we decided on the option of having Geoffrey drive our car (Tahoe for our party of 5 including Geoffrey) for the tour. This was great because for the amount of money we were looking to spend, we were able to have a longer tour by having our rental car as the transportation. Geoffrey was on-time, friendly, knowledgeable, and had great relationships with the people at each of the 4 wineries we visited which definitely helped make each stop wonderful. Since no one in our group had a lot of experience with Napa, we left the itinerary up to Geoffrey. We were so happy we did, because we visited 4 very different, but absolutely amazing wineries. I would not even consider trying another guide company, or tour Napa any other way other than using Napa Valley Wine guides. I will recommend Geoffrey and his company to anyone I know visiting Napa Valley. We had a great experience with Napa Valley Wine Guides. Sarah was an amazing guide- as friendly and approachable as she is knowledgeable about the food and wine of Napa. She arrived early for our reservations on both Friday and Saturday to drive us in our rental car (it took less than 5 mins to add her to our insurance at the local rental car agency). Sarah called ahead to confirm all of our reservations and kept our group on schedule despite our overindulgence at some of our stops. We left Saturday morning up to Sarah's recommendation and were very pleased with the tasting room she selected. By the end of the weekend, she felt more like a (responsible) friend than a paid designated driver. Napa Valley Wine Guides is in a category of its own. For ~25% less than a traditional black car, they provide you with excellent customer service and unique (non-incentivized) winery recommendations. Was very happy with Geoffrey. He charged about $60/hour (includes gratuity) to cart my sisters and me around in his SUV. He was personable and gave helpful recommendations. We asked him to choose wineries for us, since we weren't familiar with the area, and he took the liberty of making appointments for us, which was unexpected and very much appreciated. We had Geoffrey as our guide for two days. He was remarkable, not only did he take us to great wineries we'd never find, but he was flexible as our plans changed. We enjoyed seeing how welcome he was at each stop, not just as a guide, but as a friend. That made our experience even better. He hit just the perfect pace, and we had time to really talk with the winemakers and hear their stories as well as sample the wines. What a great experience! Sarah was our driver for 2 days. We visited a variety of wineries and had 2 great lunches-Mustard's Grill & Oakville Grocery. Sarah really worked with our schedule making changes when needed and changing times around for us. We also met another driver for Napa Valey Wine Guides when we were at one of the wineries. She was very nice as well, and you can tell she and Sarah enjoy their jobs. I would definitely recommend using Napa Valley Wine Guides for wine tours. First of all, we had a mix-up with our car and he took us in his; when we got picked up after our first vineyard, he had gotten the car washed for us.
