if I could give this place a negative 4 stars I would. I ordered a portion and received an individual portion. The quality of the food I ordered was absolutely horrible. I ordered a family portion of red curry and you would've thought I ordered soup for one individual person. The chicken was extremely light. There was more bamboo in the soup than shrimp and chicken. When I called to see if there was a mixup in orders, they told me the portion size was how much they used to feed a family. I'm not sure how many people they consider a family because it was only enough food for one person. And all jokes aside I am not an overweight individual. I ordered this for 2-3 people. Secondly I ordered mango sticky rice for $10.95 it was not worth the money at all even the white sauce. The mango sticky rice was soupy and that's not how it's supposed to be served. Aside from the portion of the red curry issue it was not tasty at all. The food was nasty and not worth my money by far. Next time I will drive further better food versus stopping there even if it's just 5 miles from my home. read more

First thought: Disappointed. But great customer service! So I called in an order for take out. Whenever I order Thai food I order Pad See Ew (my favorite Thai food) and something random so I can always eat something I like and try something new. So i ordered the Thai chicken wings as well. Popped open the chicken wings to a nice aroma of Thai sweet and sour sauce. Dumped it on and sank my teeth in. The meat was juicy and the sauce was very authentic Thai tasting. Very good appetizer. Next was the Pad see ew. Upon initial inspection it looked well seasoned with plenty of beef, noodles and broccoli. As I took my first bite I was surprised how unflavored it was. Thought I might've missed the brown sauce on that bite. Stirred it up a bit and same thing! There was either no brown sauce or it was the blandest sauce I've ever had. Like I said I get this dish all the time so I know what it's supposed to taste like. This wasn't it. I was very disappointed and probably wouldn't recommend it again. I'd hate to give a bad review because of a mistake so maybe just check your food before you take it home or eat inside. There is plenty of tables and the place looks pretty nice. Edit....I took the pad see ew back to the restaurant and they fixed it. Some what. Ish. It's better but not as good as I'm used too. Idk maybe it's just their recipe and they like it that way. Maybe I'm just used to a more flavorful Americanized version of taste. Either way they gave me a free beer, free fried spring rolls, and the cool came out personally and apologized. AVOID at all costs!! Ordered Pad Thai, Medium Spice. I typically order my meals spicy. There is so much hot oil in this dish my lips are swollen, all the way around my mouth is inflamed & red. I contacted to ask about their use of hot oil & spice. Her answer before I told her about my lips made it sound within range. After I told her she said that's just the way it is & it's what I ordered. After her mocking me I requested to speak with a manager. My favorite Thai place since I moved to Houston. Prices are a little bit on the high side so beware!

So the exterior definitely doesn't match the interior. I really liked the decor, I thought the flowers on the tables and decorations around the restaurant all matched the mural on the main wall really well. It was nice. The whole front is glass windows, though. It lets in lots of light which is nice, but we sat at a window booth and it was a bit hot. It was around 2pm on a hot, sunny day, tooOur fault, we picked the table. That's probably my only real complaint. We ordered a lot of food just to try different things. Everything was ordered mild. I prefer more spice, but who I was eating with can't handle it. The spice levels came as ordered. First off was the appetizer combo. It came with two of each: chicken satay, Thai chicken and shrimp dumplings, and crab puffs, as well as fried calamari and tempura veggies. The chicken was just a bit overdone but it had good flavor. The dumplings were packed with protein. The fried foods were crispy and not greasy. We got the papaya salad because my aunt hadn't tried it before. It's one of my favorite Thai dishes. This one wasn't ordered spicy, so I missed the heat, but it was still flavorful. She hated the texture of the green papaya but thought the flavor was good. It was worth a shot lol. More for me. I ordered the tom kha gai which I was really happy with - it's one of my favorite soups. The rich coconut broth always makes me happy. I also tried the tom yum, it was nice and tangy. We decided to try something different and got the Java fried rice. It was served with a fried egg on top. It's cooked with a "vinegar-tamarind sauce". I really enjoyed it! The yellow curry was good, too. Some of the bigger chunks of potato were a little under done, though. Needless to say I ended up with lots of leftovers, but I was happy to find a Thai restaurant that I can eat at with my aunt. For the good reviews y'all might want to eat at better Thai places. I eat Thai twice a week in Houston and this place was such a disappointment. My wife and I got red curry and it was the consistency of water and had zero coconut milk in it. No flavor at all. The rice was old and stale. My daughters fried rice was also terrible. Over seasoned and bad rice. Y'all need to eat at Thai Gourmet or Thai Stellar if you want real quality Thai food. read more

We visited Nara Thai 1960 on Sunday afternoon and ordered take out. We definitely think we will be back, the staff was extremely welcoming and pleasant. We enjoyed the: -Tom Yum Soup (chicken) - Pad Thai (chicken) While waiting for my take out we sat at the bar and could see the parade of perfectly crafted dishes being delivered to other patrons. Our meal was delicious and adequately priced compared to Thai restaurants in downtown Houston. This restaurant is located in a strip center and offers plenty of parking. If you are into more authentic, less Americanized Thai food, I recommend you give them a try. read more

I have been wanting to try this place I like coconut curries. I stopped here three times this week and tried different foods. The dinner prices are expensive. Their appetizers are very expensive. So far I have tried yellow and red curry. The curries were delicious. You can get brown rice instead of white Jasmine rice. My only thing that kinda dissaponted me was my yellow curry was supposed to have potato in it. It did not. It was only onions and tofu. The spring rolls taste store bought frozen and fried. The chicken wings had good flavor but the price was like $8 and not many. The wonton soup was good. The service was ok the first time. My last two visits the service was rushed and kind of rude in a way. I was looked at as if I didn't need a reason to be there. I was in comfy sweat pants and a casual shirt. Don't let the look fool you I have no reason to dress up its not Smith and Wollensky. Overall the curries were good the appetizers not so much. WHAT A GEM! On my 2018-2019 winter roadtrip I've had many a Thai meals all over the United States which mostly maintain an expected standard of quality and taste. Nara Thai 1960 is on the TOP of my list of best Thai food places for exceeding all expectations and yet balancing all aspects of Thai food that I love. The drink selection was great, which included classics like Thai iced teas, and sodas if you wanted. The entire selection of Thai food was on the menu, and THEN SOME. I particularly enjoyed the appetizers! The food came out piping hot and was a wonderfully large portion. The sauce-to-noodle ratio was excellently balanced and all the protein (I had chicken) was tender and flavor-packed. The service was awesome too. It's a family-owned business and the son that was the server was extremely friendly and great to talk to. I was really hoping I'd love this place but it's a no for me. I order the shrimp and chicken spring rolls, it was ok. I think I would have like it more without the chicken. I didn't like the peanut sauce at all, it was kind of thicc n sour. I like mine a bit sweet and saucy. I also order the orange chicken and tofu Pad See Eue. The tofu dish I really liked. The chicken not so much it was breaded like sweet and sour chicken and the breading fell off and of course the sauce falls off with the breading and its kind of gross eating the chicken and breading separately. I order via delivery app it came really quick and was still hot. I doubt I'll order there again but if I do it's strictly for the tofu. read more

Groupon led me to another place that I normally just pass right on up. The one thing that I always check for at an ethnic restaurant is people of the culture cooking the food. This place has Thai folks in the kitchen, so rest assured you are getting genuine dining experience here. The layout and decorum is really nice. 1 old school television dots the bar area. The staff is extremely nice, especially the worker from Loas - Jenny. She took the time to recommend dishes and also explained the differences between the spice levels. I went with Jenny's recommendation of the E11: Pad Kra Pow - A choice of meat, stir fried with chili-garlic sauce, green bean, bell peppers and basil. She recommended that I try it with catfish. I opted to add shrimp with her dish and got a moderate/mild heat level. All in all, a good recommendation and a good dish. The shrimp still had the tails on it, which irked my soul. The ingredients were fresh and you can tell this dish was made freshly. If you are looking for an authentic dining experience with great decor, this is a place for you. Decent pricing in comparison to portion sizes as well. See if Groupon has a deal for an even better outing. read more

I've been coming here for years and the food is always good. I recently got the green curry with tofu at level four spicy. It taste perfect and it was packed with vegetables. The rice it came with was hot and fresh as well. I got a thai tea with it and it was very sweet. If you like your thai tea more tart, I wouldn't suggest getting it. The service here is pretty good. I think they must be repeated bc I saw the the sister of the owner of Thai orchid there who used to work at ano Thai lol so ano Thai Thai Nara and Thai orchid are somehow all related. I've had my fair share of Thai food and while Nara Thai was good, it also wasn't the best. We ordered Fried Spring Rolls, Pad Thai with chicken, Orange Chicken, Pad Kee Mao with veggies, and Green Curry with Tofu. The best thing I tried was the Fried Spring Rolls. They were perfect! Be warned that the Pad Thai is weirdly sweet. We even ordered it at the medium spice level (I read some reviews beforehand saying it was sweet) and it still came out sweet. It was easily fixed with sambal sauce and chili oil but was still a surprise. The Pad Kee Mao had such a great flavor but it was mostly vegetables! We had ordered it with veggies as opposed to another protein, but over 3/4 of the plate was veggies! A bit disappointing, but still good. Only thing I would probably come back for is their iced teas. I got the Mango Iced Tea and it was so good and sweet. It also came at a great price ($2.95) whereas if you go to other tea places it can cost up to $5!! Ambiance: Don't be fooled by the strip mall appearance; the inside is akin to any nice sit-down restaurant. The restaurant seems very clean; the seating and tables don't seem to have any wear or tear. There is a moderately sized fountain in the center of the dining area, and mechanical fans slowly wafting from one wall. There's also a bar which I didn't get to try out, but which looked pretty well stocked. There is a sister establishment near downtown that isn't even comparable in this respect. Service: Even during peak lunch times, there don't seem to be an overflow of patrons. I only saw a couple of waitresses waiting on tables, but they weren't slow to respond to requests by any means. Possibly overworked, but definitely efficient. Price: This place is a poor man's dream - lunch specials are $7.99, I believe, where they give you the entree, a cup of soup, and an eggroll. Enough to feed 1.5-2 people depending on your appetite. Food Ordered: 1) Chicken Panang Curry - Thai Hot The chicken is a bit stringy, which is a bit of a disappointment. And there aren't many vegetables - it's mostly sauce and chicken. I've had both the regular no spice, as well as the thai hot versions. For the thai hot version, the flavor of the curry isn't overpowered by the spice. And as a person who normally relies on spice so much to ... spice up my dishes, I was surprised to say that I enjoyed the regular version just as much. ***Disclaimer: I would be very cautious about ordering 'thai hot' unless you've had experience with thai spices as they definitely don't hold back. Even as someone who overeats spices regularly, I was definitely struggling halfway through the meal. 2) Crab Angels These come in an atypical triangular pyramid shape, and are about 1.5" in diameter. Because of this they're a bit to hold as they lack the typical 'ends' that a wonton or a dumpling would have. However, the wrapper is incredibly crisp, firm and doesn't lose shape while you're munching away. The pyramid structure allows for a *lot* of filling to be stuffed into these wontons, which have an interesting almost sweet flavor which I believe come from the carrots they add. The wontons come with a pink sweet and sour sauce, which I feel is rather extraneous as the wontons are perfect by themselves. read more

We live closer to the Woodlands so the drive was about 17 miles. When you crave Thai food, I guess the distance doesn't matter especially since there is a void up here. Well, they didn't disappoint. The ambience was quiet with some easy going acoustic pop rock playing. The waitress was very polite. She took out order and made some great suggestions. Love when the staff makes suggestions especially when my wife has never been to a Thai restaurant. We got there about 300 pm on a Sunday. We ordered the Satay chicken skewers for an appetizer and they were flavorful. For entrees, my wife ordered chicken pad tai and I had the red curry chicken. They have a great selection and they put al the meat selections at the top. You can order the pad tai in various meats and the red curry in various meats also. The selection included chicken, beef, tofu, and duck. We both chose chicken for our dishes. The chef came out and asked if everything was good. I have to say, the food was delicious and the price with drinks and appetizer was less than $30 dollars. Great place. We will definitely make another trip soon. read more
