Two weeks ago I gave this location for Nardelli's a three star review and said I would be back to review again. This is because Southington and Waterbury locations are phenomenal. Parking was a breeze, and as soon as I walked in there, I saw a posted note saying "we are short-staffed", so I know this would be an interesting visit The staff was very polite this visit, greeting me, and being cheerful. I ordered the Italian sub with everything except the hot sauce again. The sandwich arrived full of meat and toppings. The bread, was stale again! The floors and table were fairly clean. I would give it about a six out of 10. I used the restroom, the toilet and sink were fairly clean. The garbage needed empty and they were paper towels all over the floor. Again, if there was a manager on site, that manager was invisible. Nardelli's , you need to do something about this location. Please. I think about the $16 and change that included the tip for a half a sandwich and a fountain drink. That is pricey. I expect excellence for that price. Imagine if I got a full grinder! Good, but nowhere near as good as it used to be. I used to go out of my way to find a Nardelli's Grinder Shoppe whenever my travels took me to New England. On a recent road trip through the area I made a point of visiting a couple of Nardelli's location, and was disappointed. The food was still good, and the service was good overall. But this is no longer a place I would go out of my way to eat at. The sandwich lacked the spice that had normally been a fixture, the flavors weren't as good as they had been, and the service wasn't as top-notch as it had been in the past. COVID-19 era review. Full Italian sub was very tasty, and the stuffed peppers good. Half ham sub was devoured by the little one. Half American sub was good, but the provolone requested in place of American cheese was left off. Full turkey sub I paid for (yup, full on the receipt) was super tasty, but I received only half. Honestly, why do I torture myself and keep trying places that let me down? Give it another try, they said. It will be better, they said. Last time I went they put no toppings on my sandwich, which I discovered when I got home. Tonight, they made the totally WRONG sandwich. Cold cuts vs chicken cutlet. He somehow caught the mistake but took the cold cuts off, put them back in their holder, and put the chicken on. Hello, cross contamination?!??! And what about allergies?? Omg I just can't. I checked my sandwich before leaving, unmelted cheese, barely any Mayo, barely any lettuce, but tomatoes that I didn't order. What did I do? Like a child, I took the tomatoes off, threw them on their table, and walked out. I guess I'll put the Mayo and lettuce on at home. Do the toppings come out of their actual paychecks? You'd think so. I just cannot go back here. For $20 for two half sandwiches, I just cannot tolerate the complete ineptness of the staff and the disregard for what people order. I was in town for business and luckily our hotel had a bunch of different food options and Nardellis happened to be right across the street so I tried them out for lunch. My first impression was great they have outdoor seating for the nice days and lots of indoor seating. There are a lot of nice displays of prepared foods and a clear concise menu. I ordered the "American" but without bologna. The deli meat was good quality and all the veggies were fresh. I also ordered a soda, bag of chips, and a slice of Oreo crème pie. I asked the girl if it was a cheesecake or a mousse type of pie and she responded "it's an Oreo pie". I decided to get it any way and determined it was more of a mousse type of filling lol. It was delicious btw. Sooo all in all I paid $18.64 for all that which in my opinion was a bit expensive. It was good but I'll probably stop for less expensive options next time read more

Came back to grab 4 grinders to go to bring to my parents home in NJ. We got 2 roast beef, 1 Italian combo and 1 turkey. All were excellent - my parents loved them! The fresh bread combined with perfect amount of meats (good meats at that - including red roast beef) and the famous topping(s) just worked well together. Very happy we decided to bring these for lunch! I ordered online and saved $5 for my first online order (yeah!!). Only weird thing was I wanted to take some pictures of their beautiful salads and platters behind the glass for Yelp and to show my parents - but a man with an accent came from the back room and said corporate policy is "no photographs inside the restaurant". Love Nardelli's!!! We stopped here today on our way home to Massachusetts. Unfortunately we can't get here often but we always make it a point to stop here when in the area. We usually get the veggie grinder, but they now offer a plant based Italian grinder so we had to try it! And it was so good. The plant based meats are fresh and delicious. I have a love / hate relationship with nardeillis. I want to like it, when it's done right, it's excellent. However, consistency is the downfall here. One day you get a sandwich made perfectly, the next it's soggy, dripping with oil and vinegar. Also, Tony said they were looking into quick ovens back in 2011, guess that never came to fruition because I still see those mood killing microwaves staring me in the face when I walk in. We came here as a pit stop on the way to Boston. The service was incredibly fast and relatively friendly. There were a myriad of choices, not only in the kinds of meats being offered, but the types of toppings and breads that you choose from as well. There were also salad and dessert options on display. The garlic chicken half grinder tasted a half step above Wawa- the bread was fresh, soft and flaky and the breaded chicken was nice and moist. I couldn't taste any garlic in the grinder and there was a lot of bread compared to the amount of meat I received, but it tasted fine regardless. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich. Owners are nice and the male worker who takes orders durning the day. I usually order the chicken cutlet sandwiches but recently the chicken and bread had been tough. I also have been over charged, the first two times i let it slide but now it's annoying and I'm not going to accept it. I also bought a half pound of the stuffed Peppers and when i got home to eat then they were spoiled the prosciutto was grey and the pepper has white moldy spots on them. Gross! I initially wanted to give this place a four, but as I ate my sandwich the quality seemed to decline with every bite. I got a chicken cutlet sandwich-- the chicken was way too chewy. It was not cooked correctly. However, the overall quality of the ingredients was definitely a cut above what you would find at Subway. It's slightly more expensive than Subway, but you get a lot more food. Where they excel is with service. It was both fast and friendly, and the manager even came by to ask how everything was. Not too common for a sandwich shop. I'm looking across the street and I see a Burger King and McDonald's. If I'm looking for a quick meal as I pass through town, I'm going to Nardelli's. Ran into this location for a quick lunch and the staff were on POINT. They quickly took my order and made my sub and the store was clean and organized. The customer service was very good and polite. The sub was jam packed and huge for the price. I noticed that this location vs other Nardelli locations had a very large selection of desserts, and pre packaged salami's and meats (see pictures). I liked the set up of this, signs were easy to read including prices. I do not like the set up of the parking lot- there really should be more spaces. (Not a deal breaker for me, but just observation) I would go back to this location. Great customer service. read more

I've been doing to nardellis grinder shop throughout CT for years now....and the Cromwell store was by faR the worst tasting food I've ever had. I ordered a hot square of eggplant with sauce and cheese. I got a cold square of eggplant with no sauce or cheese. Ordered the Mac salad which tasted plain and old, will not ever return or orderr. Also requested my sub roll to be extra toasted with everything aNd extra mayo//hot sauce. Sub game to me dry without condiments, untoasted and with all the turkey meat ends. The Women who was making our food required max cueing for each food she prepared so I assumed because of all her qquestions my food would of came out how i ordered and paid for it. Not the case. This place did not enforce COVID guidelines as the employees did not wear mask ,NOR changed gloves for my sandwich and did not require customers in store to wear masks or social distance as well. The extra something that propels Nardelli's over the top is their grinder roll bread. How often do you order a grinder only to have the bread a mere after thought. The bread used at Nardelli's without question is the very best grinder roll bread I have tasted bar none! It has the appropriate crunchy crust exterior, a delicate yeasty interior and an overall flavor that surpasses anything that I have experienced. Medioce grinder place. I ordered the buffalo chicken which had a decent kick, with good Italian bread, and veggies that seemed fresh. It was a pretty big grinder for the price. The problem is, the chicken itself had no flavor due to being prepared in advance and then thrown in the microwave. Also the blue cheese sauce was flat and tasted like it came out of a jar. I would be shocked if they made it in-house. Bottom line: if this place is going to advertise being authentic/historic/Italian, the first thing they need to do is get rid of those microwaves. read more

So I had a questionable, possibly discriminatory experience at my local Nardelli's today. My mentee and I arrived at approximately 5:10 or thereabouts at the store. We were scouting local job prospects for him on Rt. 372 and decided to give Nardelli's a try and after inquiring if they were hiring, were planning on grabbing something to eat there as well. I noticed upon entering the store a sign that read, "hiring highly motivated people for FT & PT," which led me to believe that, in fact, they were hiring for both full and part time positions. It seems that I was mistaken, or perhaps the wrong "flavor" candidate inquired. My mentee (a polite, well spoken hispanic teenager who was on crutches nursing a temporary injury) approached a rotund, balding gentleman who appeared to be a member of management and inquired about the possibility of employment. Despite the sign affixed to the front door saying that they were hiring for full & part time, the rotund gentleman informed my mentee that they were *only* hiring for the 6am to 10am shifts on weekdays...clearly shifts that a teenager could not work. At this point, I wasn't bothered...perhaps the owners or management forgot to take the old sign down or something. Labor needs are known to change. No big deal, right? Immediately after my mentee was finished speaking to the gentleman, the gentleman approached me (his mentor) and stated plainly, in front of my mentee, that, "[my mentee] should not come in here on crutches asking about jobs. That doesn't work for us" and casually walked away shaking his head. I'm left standing there aghast at what I just heard. I expect a certain level of gruff treatment from people, but insulting my mentee to his face about his use of crutches, or possibly ethnicity and age? That's not going to fly with me. Suffice it to say that I was taken aback by this comment -- so it appears that my mentee was given the run around due to his age, ethnicity or temporary disability, or perhaps a combination of the three. If this is the type of treatment that people of color should expect at Nardellis, then they don't deserve my--or anyone's business. read more
