Why 4 stars? Because this was a high quality smash. --- --- --- I've had my eye on Narwhal for a while now and I'm so glad I was able to stop here while driving through Houston. It's a really simple experience. You walk into a bungalow that has maybe a table or two and a touch screen sitting on a counter where you add your own order. You can hear some action happening in the kitchen, but there is no one directly interacting with you. The menu is simple: it's basically a single or a double. Spicy or not. Fries with some extra seasoning or regular. But hey, I appreciate a place that doesn't try to be what it's not and just sticks to its bread and ground beef. My wife and I both ordered a double. The only difference is that I ordered magic fries, she ordered regular fries. The difference was very subtle, as the seasoning is not very strong. But the double smash burger was really solid. Was it one of the best I've had? It might not make the Mount Rushmore, but it's on the honorable mention Mount Rushmore. I would happily order it regularly if it weren't for that pesky one hour commute from my house. There were three 2-top tables outside on the porch, so we snagged a couple of them and enjoyed these bad boys on what will probably be one of the last times for several months where it's tolerable to eat outside.

I've passed by this place so many times and was curious about what it was. I goggled and decided to try it out. You order at the computer and they bring it right out. The French fries are hand cut and really good. I got a cheeseburger and it was pretty good, too! Bonus, they have Big Red!!

If you're in the mood for a simple burger this is the place. You walk into a small building with just a few seats inside and a couple of tables outside. Order at the kiosk and you can see the chefs cooking your food fresh! $10 for a burger, fries, and drink is a steal! The burger patties are thick and the cheese is perfectly melted. The magic fries are an interesting twist on seasoned fries. Overall a great experience for some local burgers.

Just a super prime example of IYKYK. The name and the building are both unassuming, but Owner/Operator Chris is making something memorable from this blue cottage turned culinary sleeper. Plenty of parking as you pull up to the club, some outdoor patio seating is available as well as a couple of seats and tables indoor. Your order taker is a bit quiet but the menu is simple and approachable. On the screen you get 4 options, BURGER in single or double and spicy or not spicy. It's that simple. You can make some customization, but there's not too much you'd want to change. The owner came and greeted us and explained some of the flavors and heat level of the spicy burger and was generally pretty helpful while also manning the kitchen. The food here is just delightful all around. I went with the Spicy Double with extra pickles and magic fries. Magic fries are Cajun seasoning with Chinese 5 spice, and they are endlessly craveable. Amazing texture, as they stayed crispy throughout the meal, and you don't need ketchup for these at all, super good. The burger is that tried and true smash burger formula of meat, cheese, sauce, grilled onions, and pickles between 2 buns. The patties and are somewhere between smash and diner style thickness, so getting the double here is a bit a commitment when your thinking of how hungry you are. Flavorwise, everything plays its roll perfectly and I inhaled everything on my plate as evidence of enjoyment. Please make this a stop in your venture through Houston burger joints and be rewarded.

The newest incarnation of NJC now has maybe my favorite burger in town. Flavorful and moist, absolutely packed with flavor. And you won't find a better quality burger/fries/drink combo at this price anywhere in town.

An elite hidden gem! The outside is unassuming and there are only a few tables inside (and some on the patio). Everything is made fresh to order; I nearly burned my tongue eating the fries when they first came out! Like others have said, the burger is great (considering it's the only thing on their menu, they are certified experts here on the cooking and seasoning), and surprising the outside was not greasy at all (other places spam butter on the bun for taste, but it leaves your hands a mess)! The fries are pretty good; the magic fries kind of taste like 5guys Cajun fries, so if you're a fan of fries you will like these (fries are personally not my favorite food).

This is a small neighborhood smashburger spot that can be easily missed but seems quite popular with locals. We came here on a random Saturday late afternoon and it was fairly quiet but still had a steady stream of patrons. There's a little tablet kiosk towards the back end from the entrance in which you place your order and a drink tub you can grab your drink from (I wish this was explained as we weren't sure how obtaining a purchased drink worked). I ended up getting a burger and fry combo and got the magic fries. I thought the burger was good, classic smash burger with no frills. The fries were a bit of a disappointment for me, they were battered but weren't really crispy so had a strange tough/crunchy exterior that was not my favorite. Overall, this was a nice little burger spot for a quick and inexpensive lunch but I wouldn't necessairily crave it or make the drive out just to visit it again.

All narwhal joist club serves is burgers and fries. It's a heights bungalow turned into a tiny restaurant. Neighborhood vibe. Very Good patty smash burger style Not too thin. med well with Spicy option. Bun was toasted right Special sauce was unique Fries two kinds salt/pepper or magic coating

This is a very quirky little burger spot and when I say burger restaurant, I mean it. That's all they do (aside from fries), but they do it exceptionally well. Everything is prepared to perfection. The owner is a genuinely lovely guy who makes a point of checking on his customers, which adds a great personal touch. We'll definitely be returning. The place itself is hard to miss, it is a unique, old light-blue building with limited seating but plenty of easy parking.

Just a really good solid burger. Their fries seasoning was unique too. Chill folks running the place. Not much to write home about the interior, but it's tucked away in a neighborhood street. Will come back!

Narwhals Narwhals! The sheer definition of limited time and exclusive, came here to join my family after word from the grapevine there were some good burgers here. Atmosphere: Small, no-frills counter spot with a few seats and a patio. It reads more neighborhood takeout than lingering café, which honestly fits the concept. (Limited parking) Food: Went double cheeseburger with fries. Two thin patties with that smash-style crisp on the edges, melty American, caramelized onions, pickles, and their "Awesome Sauce" on a soft bun. Definitely a solid burger at a great price. The unique thing though that stood out to me is the fries, I've never had 5 spice on fries, but the combination of that with other seasonings really complimented the whole experience. Service: Counter order, but all via computer. You just put in what burger you want and a drink and they bring it to you. Notes/Tips: Limited indoor seating; patio is the safer bet when the weather cooperates. Very limited parking too so plan accordingly No gimmicks--just a dialed-in, affordable burger that hits above its weight. If you want a quick, under-$10 lunch that actually tastes like something, this place earns a spot in the rotation.

Really like this place. It's small and has a few tables to sit out inside and outside. They close at 6 so get here in time. We ordered and were served within five minutes. The food was fresh, the fries were crisp and the beef patty had tons of flavor!! Has that homemade burger taste. I will definitely come again. The price is great for the value and the were super inviting and friendly also.

To start off with a positive, I thought the falafel patty had a really great taste and was absolutely the highlight of the burger. But outside of that the burger and the toppings I ordered just didn't work as well as I would've liked. I ordered my burger with mushrooms and sauteed onions, both toppings I know I absolutely love from making burgers at home and from other spots, but neither added much. At first I was worried that the falafel was overpowering them both but upon eating them by themselves they just lacked taste. We also got the scallion aioli on the burger and I never got a hint of it at any point. All in all, the burger was very much mediocre outside of the patty. We also got fries with the burger and while they absolutely had some potential they were extremely over seasoned. Any appreciation for the seasonings in a vacuum was immediately overshadowed by how salty they were. We also ordered the Sambal Mayo as a dipping sauce and while it did help subdue the insane salt level and overall tasted quite good, upon writing this review I found out by looking at their online menu that it contained some amount of shrimp. This information is nowhere to be seen on the ordering slip and wasn't mentioned when I handed it over to the person working at the cash register. And while I definitely accept some level of responsibility for not doing my due diligence and asking or letting them know of my dietary restrictions, it's still an extremely frustrating thing to have happen as both a vegetarian and someone with a mild shellfish allergy. If for whatever reason the online menu is out of date or I missed an obvious indication of it containing shrimp somewhere I am more than happy to edit my review.
