I really enjoyed the smash burger here. The burger itself was juicy, flavorful, and had a lot going for it. I especially liked the way they cook the onions into the meat, and the cheese was great. The bun was also really good. Another standout for me was the pickles -- they were excellent and tasted like high-quality pickles, not just an afterthought. Overall, there were a lot of things to like about the burger. For me personally, the miss was the sauce. I think the burger would be better with a more traditional smash burger sauce -- maybe something with mayo, ketchup, pickles, relish, and a little mustard. The current sauce just did not hit for me. I also was not a big fan of the Magic Fries, although I can see how some people would really like them. The seasoning reminded me a little of pho-style seasoning. Personally, I think I would probably enjoy the regular salt-and-pepper fries more. That being said, this place has a lot of character. The person working there was wonderful and took the time to tell us about the old converted house, the history of the building, and some of the cool details like the windows. Just go in with the right expectations: this is not fine dining. It is a smash burger place with a very simple menu -- basically a single burger, double burger, no-bun option, fries, and drinks. Loved this local spot - I am a big fan of unique, home-grown concepts that are doing the most to make a special dining experience. Staff here was top-notch and immediately made you feel welcome. But for us, this was not it. The single patty burger was a hefty size for $6.50. However, we both felt like the meat didn't taste that great, and didn't love the sauce either. It's a really simple experience. You walk into a bungalow that has maybe a table or two and a touch screen sitting on a counter where you add your own order. You can hear some action happening in the kitchen, but there is no one directly interacting with you. The menu is simple: it's basically a single or a double. Spicy or not. Fries with some extra seasoning or regular. But hey, I appreciate a place that doesn't try to be what it's not and just sticks to its bread and ground beef. My wife and I both ordered a double. The only difference is that I ordered magic fries, she ordered regular fries. The difference was very subtle, as the seasoning is not very strong. But the double smash burger was really solid. Was it one of the best I've had? It might not make the Mount Rushmore, but it's on the honorable mention Mount Rushmore. I would happily order it regularly if it weren't for that pesky one hour commute from my house. Your order taker is a bit quiet but the menu is simple and approachable. On the screen you get 4 options, BURGER in single or double and spicy or not spicy. It's that simple. You can make some customization, but there's not too much you'd want to change. The owner came and greeted us and explained some of the flavors and heat level of the spicy burger and was generally pretty helpful while also manning the kitchen. The food here is just delightful all around. I went with the Spicy Double with extra pickles and magic fries. Magic fries are Cajun seasoning with Chinese 5 spice, and they are endlessly craveable. Amazing texture, as they stayed crispy throughout the meal, and you don't need ketchup for these at all, super good. The burger is that tried and true smash burger formula of meat, cheese, sauce, grilled onions, and pickles between 2 buns. The patties and are somewhere between smash and diner style thickness, so getting the double here is a bit a commitment when your thinking of how hungry you are. Flavorwise, everything plays its roll perfectly and I inhaled everything on my plate as evidence of enjoyment. The allspice "magic dust" on the fries is definitely interesting not gonna be everybody's thing but I actually really enjoyed it. Sweet, salty, savory, little different in a good way. The spicy burger is absolutely the move. Legit heat to it too, not one of those "spicy" burgers that barely has a kick. Flavor was on point all around. I can EAT, so I went with the double and seriously debated adding another patty. Glad I didn't. Burger was super filling without feeling overkill, and I left completely satisfied. This place is a hidden gym and the only reason I can't give it. Five stars is because I rate two other burger spots in Houstson above it. When you walk into the places, not really what you expect it's like a one small room with a single kiosk to order your burgers. It is a standard Smashburger and made really well. Really great flavor profile a nice special addition to the burger with the fries, they have a special seasoning or flavor. We couldn't really put our finger on it.
