My wife and I have eaten at Naschmarkt over 5+ times over the years and enjoyed the food every single time. However, tonight deserves special recognition for not just the quality of the food (which is always top notch) but most importantly the quality of the staff. We came in with our two year old daughter who was in a fussy mood all day, and not only did they take it in stride, they cheered her up and recommended a few dishes that got her eating and very happy. Fantastic dinner with friends! Had friends visiting from out of town and made reservations for a group of 4 on a Saturday night thru Opentable. Downtown Campbell was very busy and parking can be challenging, but I lucked out circling around restaurant and found street parking right in front of the restaurant. We were a few minutes late and upon our approval were immediately seated inside (there's a patio, too). The other 2 members of our party were late, but we had time to study the drink & food menus. Ambiance was intimate, warm and inviting. Patrons were either on dates or meeting with close friends & family. Cocktail: Austrian Maultier. austrian vodka, ginger beer, elderflower syrup served in a copper mug with a sprig of thyme. Very similar to a moscow mule, but a slight difference. The rest of our party arrived and we were ready to order. Fresh Pappardelle Pasta with braised meat, mushrooms & english peas. Delicious! Husband ordered the Beef Stroganoff Special and it was Delicious, too! I was torn which dish I liked more. Our friends were equally pleased with their dishes. Everyone's entree plates were clean! We enjoyed our entrees so much, we had to try some desserts. Ordered the Apfel Strudel and Salburger Nockerl. The standout between these two was the Nockerl. Fluffy vanilla souffle w/blueberry. The 2 dishes we had that wasn't good was the halibut was overcooked. The biggest disappointment was the vanilla bean soufflé. Although our table's waiter was attentive and helpful, he was very eager to take our plates - which is ok, but there would clearly be some food left. At the end of the night I still had leftovers of my Braised Game Hen dish and as I was having a good time conversation with my table, my food was gone in an instant & I never got my leftovers while others on the tables received leftovers. To be clear, i had 2 pieces of hens, some vegetables, and corn left!! I was pretty disappointed because 1. That was a waste of QUALITY food 2. I planned to have leftovers for later. I came here for my birthday dinner and the meal was perfect. We ordered the pork schnitzel and the pork shoulder, as well as a few appetizers and desserts. The risotto, mac & cheese, or whatever it was as a starter was absolutely delicious and creamy. We also ordered an assortment of meats and pates as a starter, as well as the sausage with sauerkraut. Sauerkraut was so good! It was really sweet and the sausage had a juiciness and tanginess to it. The schnitzel was so good and not overcooked, it paired well with the grilled asparagus. The creamy mushroom sauce that came with it was one of my favorites, so rich and creamy and the mushroom flavor was the perfect combination with the pork schnitzel. The pork shoulder was so tender and the beans that came with it had a really great citrusy, onion flavor they gave the dish some acidity. The dessert was a really fluffy soufflé which I've never had before, I recommend this dessert out of all of them because it's so unique. read more

Simply delicious. This restaurant has a rotating food and cocktail menu. We had the complimentary bread, Hausmacher-Brezel, Ungarisches Gulasch, and Krautrouladen. The Brezel comes piping hot and with their own cheese sauce. It reminded me of the bakeries back in Munich. A great way to stimulate our appetite. The Spätzle with the Gulasch had a pleasant, light taste to contrast with the savory sauce. The pork was also extremely soft! The Krautrouladen was also delicious--it actually had the best Sauerkraut I've ever tasted! The taste is more caramelized than fermented and works very well. I wish there was more of the demiglace sauce but at least there was plenty of Sauerkraut. The service was also great! Had a wonderful bartender/waiter with us the entire time supplying us with unique takes on classic drinks, which is always appreciated as a cocktail lover. I'd even consider going back just for the cocktails! The wait staff overall were also very friendly and welcoming. The only hassle really is finding street parking. We ended up using the hourly parking lot. Regardless, we will definitely stop by again the next time we're in Campbell! read more

We have usually had good meals here. Our last visit a couple months back was very disappointing. I had the game hen and my wife had the halibut. Both were way over cooked and dried out. I recon and the white. The food was amazing. I mean amazing is not very descriptive but I am literally lost for words. The stuff cabbage rolls are so moist and filled with flavor it was like eating clouds or heaven. The fish was perfectly cooked, every dishes was timed perfectly, and served hot! The artichoke soup.... OMG.... I don't know how to describe how tasty it is. Maybe it is the equivalent of eating a rainbow while riding a unicorn. What else do you need?? Had heard good things about Naschmarkt and decided to detour off 280 on our way home from a long road trip. Lucky to walk-in and get good seats at the bar where we could watch the open kitchen and see the staff interact. While the restaurant is pretty and appears clean, there was a major service disconnect best described as, "they just don't care." If I had to guess, I would say the owner isn't present and the "inmates are running the asylum." If the food was amazing, it wouldn't really matter. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't special enough to make up for all the negatives. Robotic welcome spiel, hot food consistently served on cold plates (this is so dumb!), wait staff surprising you from behind loudly asking, "you're done with this, RIGHT?," water never refilled, and staff eating and drinking at the other end of the bar (so, so odd). Almost felt like we were a bother to them and they were just going through the motions. Honestly, I walked in in a good mood and walked out mildly pissed off. Regretted spending the money. read more

We went straight to the main courses: Pan Roasted Arctic Char- this was really good, and perfectly prepared Grilled Swordfish- it was good but the lentils didn't work with the dish. Classic Wiener Schnitz- so simple, yet so delicious. The lingonberry is my new favorite berry, and the Austrian Potato salad was so delicious. I can eat that all day! I love how light it was, and how much better it is compared to the "American" potato salad. Double Cooked Pork Belly- highlight of the evening. It's so perfect, that my mouth is watering. A must try for any legit fans of German/Austrian food!! We've been dying to try this bougie euro version AND finally committed our appetite (and wallet) to do so. This place is cute & quaint - with nice, open, and modern Decor. Service was nice and attentive without being pretentious, which I appreciated. Our waiter was very friendly and made many yummy suggestions, while being super patient. Food talk: (1) House bread - nice rustic loaf, but just wished it was warmed. (2) Spaetzle appetizer - soooo tastyyy!!! Great texture and super rich with flavor - smoked chicken was a nice meaty touch. (3) Seared scallops - seared perfectly and comes with a unique creamy purple sauce + shaved smoked pork loin was crunchy and delish! (4) Smoked pork bratwurst - juicy and jam packed with flavor, fresh relish and slaw + house mustard for a nice bite. (5) Double cooked pork belly - amazzzingg....nice crispy layer of skin then super juicy in the middle + charred mini peppers + yummy corn cream puree. (8) Herbed spaetzle side - like a lighter version of mac n cheese, soooooo FREAKN good. (9) Beef Goulash - heavy, hearty, and oh so freakn tasty. The stew had so much flavor while the beef itself was super tender. Topped off with a house like sour cream that morphed the stew into a yummy creamy rendition. (10) Sorbet trio - standard and refreshing, melted way faster than it should but all flavors were tasty. (11) Vanilla Soufflé (Salzburger Nockerl) - heavenly....nice crunchy exterior, yet moist and fluffy interior. Berry compote at the bottom and powdered sugar to top it off. Cocktails (overall very light in alchy compared to standard): (1) Austrian mule - tasty overall, but very light in alchy. (2) Cucumber fizz - very light again & didn't taste any liquor at all. My wife decided to celebrate my birthday by taking me to a German restaurant, which is a callback to when we first met in Germany. Now, I'm not very familiar with German/Austrian food, but I have to say if it's anything like the food in Naschmarkt, then I wonder why there aren't more German restaurants around. The food for the most part was delicious. The place is in the middle of trendy downtown Campbell. The decor is very modern and European... lots of black colors. They have a covered outside awning with heat lamps, which is where we sat... unfortunately next to the opening. The wait staff are completely to a man, very professional, very courteous, very on-top-of-their-game. Our waiter was affable, knowledgeable about the menu, he gave us tips and answered any questions we had. Our busboy regularly filled our drinks with water, and cleared our plates without asking. Since this is our first, time, we like to try to sample as much as possible. Who knows when we'll be back? Plus it's my birthday... time to splurge! We ordered the spaetzle, which I had no idea what it exactly was, but I heard of it so it must be German and good! We also ordered a butter lettuce salad as our 2 appetizers. My wife ordered the wiener schnitzel... again something you only hear about and think "German", while I had the chicken. Then as a dessert, we ordered the lava chocolate cake and apple streudel. First of all, spaetzle is some kinda cream pasta dish made with some short noodles. It was SOOO GOOD! The restaurant makes it with some ham and mushrooms. I dunno how to describe it, but trust me, it's really good! It's not cheesy, but it is creamy. The butter lettuce looks... .very orderly. It's not tossed like a regular American salad. It was stacked up with the nuts in the middle of the topmost lettuce cup. It really SCREAMS German efficiency. My wife loved it. To me, eh... it's salad. At least there wasn't anything wilting and nothing moving that shouldn't be. Finally, the entrees! Ok first of all... Wiener schnitzel is NOT like Wienerschnitzel, which is what we were TOTALLY expecting. No hot dog here! It's basically like a chicken-fried steak except not fried, but more like baked... So a chicken-baked steak? Either way, it was so moist and tender inside, whille the breading is not too oily. It comes with a ligonberry sauce, and that really helps cut the starchness of the schnitzel. It came with German-style potato salad, and that was also very excellent. Unlike American salad, it's not made with mayonnaise but with olive oil. So it's not as fattening as the American version. But the potatoes were soft and still very creamy! WHEN I come back, I would definitely want to order the schnitzel again. I had the chicken but it wasn't made with any German twist to it. The chicken was very tender, served with one quarter breast and one wing. It was very tasty as well, don't get me wrong, but I could get this at any other fine American establishment. There wasn't any european flair to it. But my wife loved this dish... while I loved hers. Finally the desserts... Probably the only disappointing thing was surprisingly, the apple streudel. I'm not sure if it's because that is how the traditional German style or if the pastry chef had a bad day, but it was not good AT ALL. It was all one-note... mushy. The pastry outer crust was mushy... the apples were mushy... the inside pastry was... yeah mushy. I couldn't force myself to eat more than half of it. It was TERRIBLE. I much like the American-style Apple Streudel, like the ones you get from Costco or Safeway... nice flaky crust on the outside, chewy inside. The chocolate cake though was really good. If you like dark chocolate, then this cake is very moist, with a liquid chocolatey center. Also because it's dark chocolate, it wasn't TOO sweet at all. But again, it didn't seem very German-ey... Delighted to find this restaurant - happened upon it when we had bought tickets for a performance at the Heritage Theater and came back another day. (Easy walk to the restaurant on a very busy main street from the theater.) We had reservations and arrived early - everyone was very accommodating as we wanted to sit at the bar with a drink while we waited for our guests. When we were all gathered, we were able to move inside rather than sit on the patio. We really appreciated the flexibility and the patience demonstrated. The restaurant was very busy, which I suspect is the usual case. We started with the Butter Lettuce Salad (with shaved radishes, toasted pumpkin seeds), the Smoked Pork Bratwurst and the Apple Salad (which was delicious and beautifully layered). The swordfish was not as simple as it might sound - it came with braised red lentils, spicy pork sausage, sautéed greens, winter citrus and sundried tomato-pistachio pistou! I was a huge fan of the weiner schnitzzel as it was pounded thin (as it should be), had a lovely thin crust and came with lemon and lingonberry sauce as well as a delicious Austrian potato salad. Perfect. The Jäger schnitzel was a pork schnitzel braised in a mushroom cream sauce with spätzle. Everyone was very happy with their choices. Not sure how we thought we could eat dessert, but we ordered the Apple strudel with vanilla bean ice cream, the Schoko Kuchen - a chocolate cake with a liquid center, toasted almonds and coffee chocolate chip ice cream, and if all that wasn't enough, we tried the Salzburger Nockerl which is a vanilla soufflé with blueberry compote and Greek yogurt ice cream. Did we finish them - not a chance. Delicious tastes however. We were treating for this dinner party and our friends brought along a lovely wine to go with dinner ($25 corkage fee). TOP NOTCH RESTAURANT. Everything about this place WOWed me. First off, the cocktails here look and taste like they put so much love into each and every one. I believe it was the "cotton tail" that I had, and It was probably one of my favorite cocktails I have ever had. We ordered 2 pretzels, which we were glad that we did, because they were so delicious we would not have wanted to share. For my main meal I had the scallops and side of spatzle and I highly recommend both. It's so hard to come across good spatzle! I didn't plan on ordering dessert, but when I saw all of these tasty dishes coming out of the kitchen, I felt like I had to. I decided on the apple strudel and it was to dieeee for. Even the whipped cream it comes with is worth a mention. Now about the service, WOW again. Our server was so friendly and helpful with the menu. He really seemed very passionate about the food he was serving. He told us a little history on the owner and truly gave us a great experience. Heard good things about it and its jogging distance from our front door! The food was great! The server, Robert was great! The place is cozy and a complete make over of the German restaurant of yesteryear circa 1983 I remember well. Was kinda peeved when we first arrived because there was a family standing in the middle of the doorway blocking the entrance. Tried to move past them to talk to the host, but then they remarked that they were waiting in line. SORRY, not trying to cut in line, just trying to figure out the seating situation! anyway, talked to the host and we apparently were late for our reservation (parking was a complete biatch). there was plenty of seating in the outdoor area (has a tent but still cold), but we decided to wait for a table. I went to the bathroom, and found there was an empty spot facing the kitchen. Inquired the host about that spot, and he said it was the "chef's table" and was available if we didn't mind the heat and the noise. My date and I found the table more appealing actually, so we snagged it and were happy not to wait any longer :) Scallops appetizer - was so tender! and the mushrooms were so nutty and melt in your mouth. lovely citrus sauce. just sad there was only 2 scallops. but i guess it worked out, one for both of us :P Pumpkin buttered rum- was yumm, had a mild pumpkin spice flavor, could not taste the alcohol, so it went down smooth and easy. Not your mom's cranberry sauce- could definitely taste the alcohol in this one, but I loved the tart cranberry taste of the drink. refreshingly shocking. Grilled swordfish- Surprised at the large size of the piece of fish! beautiful grill marks, perfect consistency & fresh taste, Spicy pork sausage was very yummy too. the sundried tomato-pistachio pistou topping was great, wish there was more. also i love grapefruit so that seasonal fruit was a nice surprise! Double Cooked Pork Belly - I'm not a big fan of pork, but this was delish! But I could not get enough of the sauteed red cabbage.. so sweet and yummy. (ahh the simple pleasures in life) Apparently they have a special drink here that my date helped us order. he called it the licorice drink? (ask the bartender, and he told us we could only order it at 9pm, when they close) Basically he burns a wine glass, which you inhale and then drink absinthe and then blow out. We first ate at Naschmarkt last year and loved it. This time, the food was still good but the service could be better. Timing was quite off with everything we ordered and our waiter forgot to submit our drink order so we didn't get it until half way through our meal. This seemed particularly odd because they are known for excellent service. As for the food, this visit we had the Jaeger Schitznel which is good if you like mushroom sauces, and the Grilled Niman New York Steak which is good if you like steak. That said, I highly recommend the Quark Spaetzle with Smoked Chicken and the Hungarian Beef Goulash. Delicious and representative of the Austrian cuisine there. Salzburg Notkerl dessert was ok, but not a must like other reviewers make it out to be. Light and fluffy yes, but more egg white than anything. Blackberry Cabernet Sorbet paired with it was delicious though; the flavor of the cabernet comes through. I'd skip dessert here next time. read more

Entrees - Halibut & Goulash The Halibut came atop a bed of seasonal fresh fall vegetables with a wine and something cream reduction at bottom - AMAZING NEW FLAVORS to my mouth. The Goulash was a hearty classic. Tender meat yummmy noodles and sauce I wanted to take a second dish home ! The food is all that needs to be written about here, this is a must go to!
