Finally, I made it to Natale's from VT to stock up on REAL bakery cake and pastries. 'Loved seeing them packed with bakery enthusiasts on a Sunday morning- "take a number". The lovely gal who helped us retrieved our phone order, and then I added on more and more items as I scanned the stuffed glass cases. There is so much to be said for eye appeal- and this bakery rocks it. The fresh breads looked irresistible, and the High Top Round is excellent. Crisp outside, soft inside. They make REAL Eclairs, thank you very much- succulent custard filled with shiny choc. icing - a bit sweeter than I would like on the chocolate...but kudos for crisp, fresh choux. I had pre-ordered the Petite Fours, and I wish I had seen them before they were boxed - because I think that blue icing and green icing is a bit revolting. I had an unappetizing, darkish blue and 2 sickly green out of 8 petite fours. Whatever happened to lovely pastel pink and yellow - plain white with colored piped flowers? The chocolate iced ones looked pretty - but the choc. again was very sweet and the fondant is heavily applied on these little cakes. However, the genoise layers were wonderfully fresh and the raspberry jam generously applied- all in all they were probably the best 'fours " I have had in years. My husband liked his cupcake very much, and I loved the genuine 'sticky bun' - again very fresh.they could do with less raisins and more chopped walnuts nuts. The Schuyatelle was crispy on the outside and loaded with good citron flavor inside. The favorite for all of us however, was the cherry pie. 'Delicious crust (though a bit thick) and yummy, tart cherry filling. The pie was physically heavy - loaded with filling in words. Biggest disappointment? what give with the Famous Philly Fluff, people? It was so overpriced at $17.95 for the marble version - and there was almost no chocolate in this version of the Philly. Sorry, but no way it was worth the money and was slightly dry besides. That was the one purchase I regret. Four of us sat around tasting everything and laughing how Sara Lee does a better job with marble cake than Natale's - not to mention for a 1/4th of the price. They made a big deal about the chocolate being a ganache filling? There was no way to even tell - as there was only the thinnest marbling around the top of the cake. Ganache is simply chocolate melted with cream...I don't' get what the big deal is. But I still give high marks for a superb variety of fresh bread, pies, and cakes - probably the largest selection I have seen in a quality bakery. And most prices are pretty reasonable for the area. Had a very lovely experience this past Saturday ! stopped in to purchase cookies. I purchased 30 large Valentine's Day cookies for a party. The very nice lady (owner) was so helpful and kind. She gave me a few extra cookies at no charge and also plastic wrap and tie for each cookie! The cookies were delicious and a great hit at the party! I have purchased from here in the past and am always satisfied and happy. We have a diabetic in the family so I sometimes purchase sugar free items from here. The sugar free cheesecake as well as the apple pies are very good. I just like this place as they are always kind and helpful. I've never had a bad thing from Natale's and it's honestly best for my health that I ended up moving out of Summit. My personal favorite is their Rustic Tart - not too sweet, filled with an interesting and amazing mix of fruit, and the most perfect crust. Their pecan bar cookie thing (I don't know what they call it) is astounding and the base includes what seems like a stick of butter (and that is a good thing). I took their apple cake down the shore with me and it was so dense and moist that it weighed my suitcase down considerably! I've never really loved the rainbow cake cookies you get in most Italian cookie trays, but a friend bought some, and we polished them off in the car after "just trying one." She had to go back in to buy more! Natale's in a must stop for me anytime I'm even remotely in the area. read more

The worst experience ever! Have been going here for 20 years and the woman manager was beyond rude and unhelpful. The phone rang all day because they were apparently busy and when I finally get thought at 3:30 they tell me they aren't making cakes all the bakers are gone. How do they call their product fresh when they are sitting all night for the next day? The biggest is my grandfather who was given 1 month to live wanted a cake she still said I can't help you. I have never been talked to so rude she said it was my fault I didn't plan not there fault that they don't answer the phone. I will be finding another bakery after this sad and pathetic experience by Natales. Think twice about this place. read more

About 2 years ago my family heard good things about Natale's and since we're always in search for a good bakery we figured we had to try it out. Since then Natale's has become one of our go to bakeries. It's not exceptionally great but they do have classic 'go to treats' that we love. THE GOOD: Natale's has great bread. Freshly made very morning and they'll slice is perfectly for you. This bread will not last past its 2nd or 3rd day though. We get all of our birthday cakes from here. They are very well priced and delicious! Other favorites of ours are the philly fluff (of course), cupcakes, crumb cake and cheesecake. Their jelly donuts and curlers are also a classic! Best in the area. THE BAD: Undoubtedly, the most frustrating and irritating thing about Natale's is if you want to get anything good you HAVE to get in early. Unlike other bakeries they only make one batch of everything and once they are out they are out. I have gotten their at 7:30am and they've been out of crumb cake, other times I've gotten their at 11am and they've been stocked. It's a total crapshoot and it's the worst! It's a very big turnoff to be honest. Their customer service also is not great. I once ordered a cake and when we got home and cut into it we saw very clear black hairs inside. I brought it back to the store the next day to show them. A young girl helped me but called an older employee over which then caused a rushing of about 4 other employees into the back with the cake. Someone then came back, told me to sign, gave me a refund and that's it. No apologies, no courteous explanation, nothing. Just some dirty looks from the older employees every time I walk into the store now. Very inappropriate. Their pastries which fail, fail hard. What they call pignoli cookies is an embarrassment and are ridiculously overpriced ($22lb no joke). I will continue to come back here since a good bakery is hard to find in the area but this place could improve. As others have stated, if you plan on coming right before or on a holiday be prepared for huge crowds. read more

I love Natale's. When I visit the area once or twice a month, I always zip on over and grab a couple of things for breakfast. I love baguettes with butter (and a very carb-y breakfast) and Natale's never fails in that department. Their pastries are delish. As others have said, the parking can be an issue on weekends and ESPECIALLY holidays. During holidays, people park on the left side of Park Place despite there being no parking, or along Broad Street but the options are few. That doesn't stop anyone from going. There was one thing that did irk me. I spent $35 on a fruit tart on Mother's Day 2010 and it was horrid. The cream had no taste to it. We threw it out. :( Haste makes waste? I can see they were extremely busy, as again this was a holiday but it worries me that the quality of their items decreases in order to make up for volume during holidays. I am aware this was two years ago, so I think I'm ready to give it another try, but that hampered my desire to spend $30+ on any single item there. read more

Philly fluff cake. This pound cake (that is shaped like a circle not a loaf) is amazing. Have 14 people over? Slice it thin. Have 4 people over? Slice it thick. Moist for days, can be toasted or served straight from the box. They must sell a zillion of these. Ask anyone who has gone to this bakery for the last lifetime and they all say the same thing- get the philly fluff. I have no idea why it is called that. Just buy it you will thank me. read more

1. They screwed up my order. On Jan 31st, I was supposed to pick up a yellow birthday cake. When we cut the cake, it was chocolate! It was correctly written for yellow cake on the order slip that they gave me, but someone messed up my order. The worse part is that after I contacted the bakery via email about this situation, they never responded. I guess they have too many customers to give back good customer service. 2. My wedding cake ordered a few years ago was DRY. After spending about $500 on a beautiful cake, I was SO disappointed on my wedding day when I took a piece of the cake and it was dry-like it had been made 3 days prior. What a disgrace for a bakery like this. 3. In conclusion, this place is FAIR. They are almost TOO busy that they don't care to respond to customer's complaints, they probably make too many wedding cakes to be able to get a fresh one made. I have been eating Hazelnut Cake for my birthday as far back as I can remember, since I was a little girl living in New Jersey. When growing up in New Providence, my mother always bought one from Trost's bakery in Summit. Through my adult life in N.J., my husband continued the tradition. Then we moved to Maine eighteen years ago. My husband's business brings him to NJ on occasion and as a result he continued to buy that cake for me for every birthday. Then Trost's closed and we found you. So tradition continues. Yesterday my husband picked up the cake at you bakery and brought it up to Maine last evening for my 58th birthday. The cake was more delicious than it has ever been! The nuts aren't ground up as finely and we love it that way! It definitely enhances the flavor. Keep up the wonderful work. Been going to Natales for 15 years or better. I love their baguettes, my wife the Philly Fluff, most baked goods are good but not to rave about. Over the years, they have enjoyed notoriety and popularity and almost a monopoly in the area given its location and the clientele it draws. However, I am partial to buns/donuts and in my opinion they don't hold a candle to the italian bakeries that can be found in Union and Kenilworth and even Kings in Short Hills. And, their prices for those that are cost conscious are ungodly and unwarranted. Yes the goods are good but not great enough to command the prices, in general. I do think that if more people took the time to investigate those other bakeries they might split their loyalties. Until then, whoever owns this place runs without opposition and that's great for him/her until....... read more

My family has been coming to this bakery since the '60's. Their cakes and pastries are simply the best. I have never had better anywhere. This bakery I would never go to again. My family has been patronizing this business for over 25 years. My family moved out of Summit 25 years but would still come there every two weeks or once monthly. They today treated my mother was using counterfeit money because she gave them an old 50 dollar bill, which are still circulating. The counter person called the manager completely embarrassing her even further and I don't think that a 76 year woman who has been coming there 25 years should be treated like that. I told her to through the pastries in there face and never go there again. I will be getting in touch with the owner also to let them know how his employee's treat there long time patrons. THis Bakery has been around since I was a little girl, I'm 62. My Grandparents lived in the house on Park Place with their back door only a step away from theirs. I would smell the Italian Bread & Grandma would go get some, still warm, slathered it with butter. I was addicted. I have been away from there, living in PA, & never found another bakery like it. Horrible customer service. They do not slice baguette bread. They have done it before for me several times. You cut the long bread in half and put it in the machine to slice- not rocket science people! The girl literally cut the bread in half, put it back in the bag and tried to pull off that she "sliced it: Are you kidding? . The comments from 4 employees that I received were- "Why don't you bring it to Shop Rite, they can slice it for you" "Why don't you come over to my house and borrow my bread knife" "What, you don't know how to slice your own bread" and "I've worked here 11 years and we've never done that" You try and support local businesses and pay a little extra to get great service in return, but not here- I will happily bring my business to Kings where they have no problem slicing bread in their bakery department!!! read more

Since I live about 45 minutes away, I have only been here twice. The first time I had the coconut custard danish which was just okay, and the almond strussel coffee cake which was amazing. The second time I went back the day after Thanksgiving (big mistake) for the coffee cake and a coconut pie, and was so disappointed. Nothing was fresh. It was obvious they were made Tuesday or Wednesday - before the holiday. To serve stale food at these prices is not acceptable. I won't be going back. read more

The quality here is above and beyond the price you pay for! Their cupcakes are simple, soft, and scrumptious. Their cannolis are delicious, the shell is solid enough to hold the filling in, but soft enough that it won't cut the roof of your mouth once you bite into it, while the filling is rich and silky. Natales is my local bakery. A wide selection of breads and delicious baked goods. I would say EVERYTHING was good and for the most part it is, for the items I have tried. Their breads, cookies,cakes and quiche, yes quiches are some of the best i have ever tasted. The staff is helpful and warm, they know their inventory and will alway accommodate. The place gets packed but they handle it well. Parking can be a challenge. I always get my pies, cakes and cookies here, and i order ahead for Thanksgiving. Their cakes rival Staten Island bakeries (I've had competitions) and this place is my go to for holiday pies. The baguettes and sliced Italian white bread are impossible to stop eating once your start. You can grab a delicious cup of coffee and a buttered roll for a quick breakfast. The quiches are made on Thursdays and are done to perfection. The Philly fluff (pound cake made with Cream cheese ) is a real crowd pleaser. Good cheese Danish. Everything here looked delicious- there wasn't a thing that I didn't want to try, which made me very happy to see the samples next to the register. I tried four different things- a single serving blueberry pie, a sticky bun and two samples of strudels- blue berry and cherry. First the good- everything was baked to perfection- perfect texture. The pie was perfect, flaky, light, not too sweet. I also got a large coffee and everything was $4, so that is great too. The kicker for me was- the sticky bun and both of the samples had a hint of black pepper flavor to them. I tasted the first sample and thought it was just me, but nope, the other sample and the sticky bun had the same flavor and it just threw me for a loop, not in a good way. I have only been here once, so maybe it was a fluke. I would definitely give this place another shot though, I am confident I can find something else there that I like as much as the pie. read more

Like the rest of the crowd the philly fluff keeps me coming back and really wows a crowd. I'm probably in the minority when I say this but I'm not a fan at all of their Italian pastry. Living in Italy for years I can firmly say they are far far cry from authentic. On the other hand this bakery makes excellent donuts and surprisingly very good bagels. My husband goes first thing in the morning on the weekend brings back lots of goodies. Their danishes, bagels, donuts, and cinnamon buns are delicious. Oh yes their cookies are yummy too. read more
