I had initially ordered the cake and cupcakes, but when my other plans fell through for giveaways to my guests last minute, Nancy worked with me to include an order of custom themed sugar cookies that not only looked amazing but tasted amazing too (I received several unsolicited compliments on them!) Oh #Sandy, you cost me I'm gonna assume 10lbs. I have just been feasting on delicious food out here in Chatham and drinking copious amounts of wine. Dearlord. On the hunt for lunch we were led to Hickory Tree. Amazing. Next door the bakery was dark but the door was open... hmmm... looting anyone? We ventured in after we picked up our sammies and the lady was frantic to get rid of some of her goods since she's been without power. We went with their world famous s'mores, malomars, various cookies and to our dismay/fortune she dropped in some extra pastries as well as 2 huge walnut breakfast pastries that probably weighed 4.7 lbs each. I really only got dirty on the s'mores and the malomars. Amazing. Graham cracker dipped in chocolate fudge with marshmallow in between. We had a fire going so, I put this sucker on some in foil and rested it in the fireplace for 7 minutes - amazing gooeyness ensued. The mallomar was a version of the s'more but, instead of graham cracker it was a butter cookie. Why hello, I love you. I'll take 4 more of those please! I look forward to coming back and trying more of these amazing delights. read more

This bakery is not putting out the cakes it used to. We ordered 3 cakes for 3 different birthdays. The quality and recipes we counted on years ago have changed. Maybe new ownership maybe new baker maybe cheap ingredients but it certainly isn't the same. We ended up throwing away most of it as it was inedible. read more

Strictly sweets like cakes, cookies and danish -- no bread at this bakery. Tried the crumb cake, mini cannoli and almond danish. Little cannoli were freshly filled right in front of me, filling had chocolate chips in it, shells were more flaky than crispy, $2.25 each (hmm that's more than whole paycheck). Dreadful! Avoid at all costs. Sent my older children 14,12 + 10 in to this bakery to grab a snack after boxing. The owner gladly took their money and then would not allow them to sit and eat their pastries. Evidentially she can serve unsupervised children but not accommodate them after their purchase, so my children waited outside. Very rude owner, will not return. read more

You used to be a great bakery with DONUTS, croissants, apple crumb cake and better regular crumb cake than you have now. You have now started serving waffle bites and other random items that no one cares for. Everyone wants a nice donut that is homemade (not from Dunkin) and you only have them once a week. And croissants, THE quintessential breakfast pastry, where are they in your bakery?? I have to go to Starbucks for a decent one. Yours would be great! Kids love a nice warm pain au chocolate too!! And woodland, what happened to your apple crumb cake?? That was a strong item at your bakery. It was great! And your new crumb cake recipe is no where as good as the old, what happened?? You have a distinctive advantage in front of you: Around the radius of your bakery, the closest competitors are in Summit and Morristown. You have the ability to monopolize customers in our Area. Take advantage of it! This bakery used to be one of my favorite places. When the new owner took over, things were noticeably different. The staff (who had always been friendly and kind to me) were suddenly stressed out any time I went in. Another girl who had always acted as a manager was suddenly gone. I ordered a cake and when I brought it back to them after discovering that the bottom was entirely covered in mold, there was one young girl at the counter who had no one there to come out and make things right (ie an owner or manager). I understand the mold mistake, but what I can't understand is the lack of authority to remedy the situation. That was when I knew I wouldn't be back again. It's also worth noting that the new owner does little to none of the actual baking. What's more noticeable are her less-than-standard cake decorating skills. read more

So... hubby and I hit up Woodland Bakery on the way to his parents house. we spent about $90 there--everything was so great! THis is just a review of the stuff we ate that night and on the way home from the bakery (it was an hour trip... so lots of time to enjoy the tasties!) Mango Mousse Cake: Sit-on-the-floor-and-die delicious. A really powerful, GOOD mango taste. the mousse was fluffy and not dense at all, and the lady fingers were light and not soggy. just yummy all around. Also, she put strawberry glaze on the top, and it was AMAZING. Lemon bars: probably the best i've ever had--not bitter at all, and not too sweet. meltaway danish: very tasty, and i can't wait to eat the rest for breakfast tomorrow. eclairs: really great custard, and the pastry itself was fluffy and moist. crumb buns: by the time we got there, all she had left were the apple crumb buns. Again, I can't wait for breakfast tomorrow. my husband got 2 boxes of her little italian cookies, and he said her rainbow layer cookies were just about the best he'd ever had. the almond horn, oatmeal cookies, and sugar cookies were also delicious, but by this time, we were so stuffed we couldn't really enjoy it properly. read more

The products are very tasty. But what kind of bakery opens at 9 on a Saturday??? My family are early risers (not that you have to be.... 9 is late for many people!) and if we're indulging in baked goods on a weekend, we don't wait until 9. Guess we'll make the trip into Morristown until this changes. Their hours used to be better. 9 is way too late for a bakery, even during the week. My mother works at a school and used to stop here and get coffee and a treat a few times a month, but she can't do that at Woodland Bakery anymore because they're not open. If you want to compete with the big companies, give yourself a chance. We'd rather go to small shops like this 100% of the time--better tasting pastries, better atmosphere, just preferable all around--but if they're not open, we can't. Amazing crumb buns and the best lemon bar I've ever had!

Woodland Bakery is awesome! Everything I've gotten there has been delicious! The service was wonderful, any associate I spoke with was very helpful and cheerful. I recently bought two cakes for my son's 3rd birthday, and the owner Laurie had some cute ideas for them and they turned out amazing! My son was so happy with his pirate cakes! It was a pleasure doing business with them! I will definitely go back and recommend this bakery to everyone I know. I would also like to point out, the negative reviews are for the old owner who I had the displeasure of meeting. The new owner is darling, accommodating, and very pleasant. Not good. This bakery used to be one of the best in the area. The baked goods I bought were dry, not authentic n lacked the I want more factor. Cannoli cream is not made w all ricotta. It's not rich n creamy. The black n white cookie, it's just a cookie, dry n was days old. I recommend they close. Prior owner was great, truly a baker n Baker before that amazing n fresh baked food. N where was all the donuts n bread lady. Where is the delicious crumb cake and apple pastries!! People don't care about hearing you using old recipes. We want a fresh delicious tasting bakery. My son has a peanut allergy and this is my go-to bakery for sweet treats and all birthday cakes. They take cross contamination seriously and have lists of all the ingredients. At my kids' birthday parties, I always get so many compliments on the cake because it is different than the typical shoprite or bakery cake. While the selection isn't as large as Natale's, everything is delicious and, I feel, a little higher-end. Highly recommend to allergy and non-allergy families alike. Favorite items - chocolate dipped cannolis, raspberry jam white chocolate dipped cookies, and any cake. Been here a couple of times and I love the cookie dough brownies! I always get the mini ones cause I try not to have too much but if you wanna indulge, get the bigger size. I also love the butter cookies. On my first time, I asked the lady at the counter to pick out her favorite cookies for me cause I didn't know which ones to get. She was really nice and patient. I've been there twice and I am more than pleased, as well as my co-workers! I travel over 25 minutes just to go there on a weekend with my girlfriend. I had heard some negative feedback about the previous ownership but I made the trip just the same. Everything I bought was fresh and the staff was more than friendly. Now I've been there twice and plan to go again soon. I brought treats back to my co-workers and the cookies didn't stand a chance! Everything was well received and I also read they had helped out another customer for Veterans! That cause is deeply important to me. Please support your local bakery. I love the cupcakes, cakes, cookies & brownies. After a recent purchase, I noticed a significant difference in size - they are MUCH smaller! Even though the size has been reduced, the price remains the same. I find it difficult to spend nearly $2.00 each for an item so small. Other bakeries charge less and the baked goods are larger in size. read more

Was it asking too much to expect that I could purchase a Saint Joseph's Day pastry at 8:45 AM on Saint Joseph's Day? I guess it was. None. Nada. Zip. Zero. How was this possible? The server informed me the only ones left were for a restaurant order -- and indeed I gazed longingly at the last few on the tray in the prep area. Disappointment, disbelief and despair. I begged and pleaded but to no avail. Every year for so many years I have come to this bakery to buy these for my husband -- on this day -- his birthday. Not today and never again. I wasn't aware of the new ownership, but now it all makes sense as this is the third disappointment we've experienced.
