I stumbled across this place violently hungover the other morning. In desperate need of food and coffee. It was quiet and calm inside, the lighting not too bright for my raging headache. Such a great bagel spot. I was wondering Richmond in the morning and I stumbled upon a cute bagel shop at the corner. Please be safe when crossing the street, pretty busy area! As I entered, I noticed how welcoming the atmosphere was. It was so peaceful and calming and the staff just had such a welcome energy which is honestly hard to come by. As I walked towards the register, this wonderful lady with amazing colored hair, I think her name was Annele? well she was amazing. She was so patient with my order, such great recommendations, and just such a nice vibe. She definitely needs a raise! I ordered 2 lox and cream, ol Virginia (I think that's the name) and 2 cold brews! These were for my friends minus one of the lox and cream. GOLLY, the lox and cream was so divine. I found another Bagel shop in Carytown so here's my review: Food 9/10 - I ordered 2 different breakfast bagels on the same Everything Bagel and they were the best bagel breakfast sandwiches I have ever had so far. The everything was seasoned and the main thing that caught my tastebuds was the eggs which were the best part of the bagels. I have yet to try the other bagels but I'm sure I'll like them too. Service 7.5/10 - I don't have much to say but the staff were pretty and my food came in a decent time. Inside 7/10 - It's in a neighborhood in VCU so I can excuse it for being small and tight, but the inside is nothing special. It's clean and nice so that's all I'm going to say as well. Overall, this is another one of these instances where the food is worth it and everything else doesn't matter. I can't speak for lunch but this place is perfect for breakfast. Got an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. The cream cheese was light and savory and paired perfectly with the saltiness of the everything bagel which were delicious, thick and chewy. If driving, you will need to find street parking. There can be a bit of a line but it moves fast. Seating is extremely limited inside and tends to be a bit cramped, so be aware as it is more of a grab-and-go place! read more

Hit up Nate's Bagels early one morning after a morning bike ride, and it honestly hit the spot; great post-workout meal. They've got a nice little outdoor seating area where you can chill and enjoy your food. Super casual, good vibes. I didn't sit down this time just grabbed my food to go but next time I definitely plan on sitting and soaking in everything. The inside looked nice too, clean and well put together. Parking can be a bit of a hassle, since it's all street parking. And this place gets busy fast. When I rolled up to pick up my food, there were tons of online order bags stacked up and people already waiting as soon as they opened. So if you're not ordering ahead, be ready for a tiny crowd just something to be mindful of if you're in a rush. That said, this is probably one of my favorite bagel spots right now. Nate's Bagel has everything you need to start the day. It has many breakfast bagel options, coffee, orange juice and more. When you come in, it's not that big, but it serves its purpose. You go straight towards the back to put your order in and wait for your name to be called. The food is picked up on the counter by the door. That's also where all the to-go orders sit. The coffee is self-service and has a few syrups available. On this visit, I had the Banh Mi on a rosemary and salt bagel. It was delish! The pork belly was amazing! Great flavors combined. My husband had what he always had, the Lox with the Works in an everything bagel. It's got the lox, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions and capers. Wow! Both of these do not have eggs, but you can order others that do if that's your jam. There are 2 tables inside and outside and a long counter against the wall to sit. There is also an "All Gender" bathroom in the back. There are napkin dispensers throughout. Watch your step coming in and out. Overall, this place is great. I love coming here and enjoying my breakfast and coffee. There's a mix of customers, but mostly VCU and young people enjoy this little gem. It's walkable too, so you'll see people walking or riding their bike here. I definitely recommend this place. Also, they opened a new place in Scott's Addition. We visited Richmond to see our daughter at VCU and can't wait to go back to visit Nate's again. We had breakfast here twice in our short 6 day visit and both times the bagels and cream cheese were out of this world. Salt bagels (not too much salt) with veggie cream cheese (savory) and with honey walnut cream cheese (sweet) were incredible!Super walkable from all over the VCU campus and don't let the long lines fool you as they are pretty quick and efficient! This is the place! Walking in, the sea of brown paper bags lined up with orders made you quickly recognize that there must be something pretty darn amazing about this place. This place seems to be a well oiled machine.. they appeared to have what I can only assume was 50 take out bags on the counter, and our orders still took less than 10 minutes. Got some just bagels with cream cheese and one egg and cheese. The bagels were solid and the cream cheese was delicious. DIY coffee situation which I can appreciate.. and their cold brew was pretty wonderful. I will note that the scooped bagel with cream cheese seemed to throw off the bread to spread ratio. my favorite bagel place of all time. they make them fresh every morning. you can even watch them make it. i would eat here everyday if i could but i would get fat. they are open 7am-2pm so keep that in mind. they're so quick! i love it here. Finally tried Nate's because Baltik's was closed. Have to be honest that I'm confused why this place is always so packed. The bagel was very mediocre, chewy hard and doughy. I haven't had an untoasted bagel in forever so maybe that was the issue? Scallion Cream cheese was lacking flavor and the tomato that was on my lox bagel was so cold it tasted a little frozen. We love Nate's Bagels - they have vegan cream cheese (cashmear), almost all of their bagels are vegan and classic New York style, and they also have vegan bagel sandwiches! The Veggie (sub vegan CC) sandwich is super refreshing/yummy and the Mox with the Works is a great, tangy alternative to actual lox! The New Virginny is also vegan and I tried a bite from our friend last time we visited - very good, it's sweeter with a jammy taste and faux-meat. The place is always packed when we stop by - you might have a difficult time finding a table since seating/space is limited, so we usually walk over to Blanchard's to get coffee too :) Overall great spot and I highly recommend! read more

Giving three stars because their online ordering messed us up twice. We were trying to avoid the lines and because we had a big group wanted to make sure we got the order in. Love that their bagels are chewy with the right amount of softness. The option to have multiple different toppings is wonderful, but I am a bagel purist and need my everything with the cashew cream cheese. Very clearly labeled to make it easy for you. It still has great food and if we have the time I do try to go since the bagel quality is some of the best that I have found in the area. This place is chaos on a Saturday morning, but I totally get why. They keep it organized despite being full to the brim of people picking up and ordering. I ordered online which was very easy. My order was ready when I arrived, so I was able to grab it. We did 3 bagels and schmear and 1 challah BEC sandwich. I wish I could eat that challah everyday - such a genius addition to the menu. Every single bagel shop in Richmond puts enough cream cheese on it to feed a starving 3rd world country. Not to mention every place in Richmond is bent on calling cream cheese "schmear" because I guess no one has actually been to NY to know that that is not how that word it used. The bagels are fine, as good as you can get in Virginia but I get viscerally mad when I have to SCOOP the cream cheese off of my bagel for it to be edible. There is no "lite" option on online ordering (also can't toast your bagel, also can't add ketchup if you add SP and hot sauce)Maybe the in store ordering experience is better but their online options are limited. I want to say these bagels are not bad. They are good. The entire bagel experience is not enjoyable for anyone that knows anything. But that's every place in Richmond it's this same stuff.
