When I was a kid you'd go to one area of Nathan's for hotdogs, another for fries. There was always a backup of people, and a crowd at the counter. That wasn't[[HIGHLIGHT]] our experience today. An orderly line, one-stop-shopping, plus tabl[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]es and benches outside. They've had seating for awhile ..... but not in the '60s, when we'd regularly stop at Nathan's. The frankfurters are spicy and have snap! The fries are crinkle-cut with their signature ridge, and delicious. Coney Island still has frog's legs (if that's your thing.) But no more pineapple soda, a drink they were known for. (That was my thing.) So .... four hotdogs (two for me, two for T), shared fries, shared soda. $38!!! Kind of expensive. Curious about price before we arrived, I used A.I. since the menu wasn't posted on Nathan's site. Information was inaccurate, citing a discount if you buy two franks and an incremental amount more to tack on fries and a soft drink. Wrong! No meal-deals in Coney Island. Oh well. I enjoyed our brief stop. The days of dollar hot dogs are long since gone. read more

6,900 miles is a long way to go for a hot dog but Nathan's Famous just exchanged Coney Island and Beijing as their HQ city having sold the brand to wholly owned Chinese pork processor, Smithfield Foods. Who knows if the famous Nathan's "snap" will fall by the wayside in favor of cheaper ingredients but I suspect Joey Chestnut won't fare as well trying to down 75 fried egg rolls in 120 seconds. Recently went to Nathan's on a weekend for the first time ever after living in New York City my whole life. I ordered two hot dogs, fries and lemonade. The order was processed fairly quickly although I ended up having to in do so with the cashier instead of the machine as there was an issue with the machine. The Corn Dog Nuggets would have been so good with the honey mustard. I had the image in my mind when I saw it on the menu: the iconic Nathan's hot dog flavor wrapped in fluffy golden. We visited Coney Island on Jun 26, 2025 and had lunch from Nathan's Famous on the recommendation of our tour guide. He insisted we try their hot dogs. At the Riegelmann Boardwalk location, We ordered two original dogs, a chili dog, a bag of large fries and drinks. Total bill was $42.39; the original dog and large fries were $5.99 each, the chilli dog was $6.99, and a regular-size drink was $4.99. (You can get three hamburgers at McDonalds;s for the price of a regular drink at Nathan's Famous.) As we ate, I wondered what the big deal was about Nathan's Famous. "Hot dog is hot dog," I kept thinking. This was no exception. Wife said that hers tasted like her own homemade ones. Mine tasted no different from the ones I got every month at my home church. They tasted good but nothing that was truly outstanding. The fries were the same. Thankfully, I had a heavy breakfast so didn't have to order much for lunch. Wait line to order was long (at least 10 minutes). I love Nathan's as an all American institution. If you find yourself on the Coney Island boardwalk at any point between Memorial and Labor Day, Nathan's is mandatory. Being at Nathan's on the Fourth of July feels like wrapping yourself in Betsy Ross's American flag and clanging the Liberty Bell with a live bald eagle. It does not get more American. Now, as a fast food institution, Nathan's is fine. The hot dogs are good. Not in a particularly memorable way. But they are sort of the archetype for what you would expect from a decent hot dog. The cheese fries are adequate albeit a bit mushy and light on the cheese. The fries are also more wedge-like than a standard crinkle. And I'd avoid the bacon ranch fries, which were sparse on both bacon and ranch. Nonetheless, Nathans encapsulates America as a metaphor. The vision is beautiful--hotdogs, liberty, justice, and crinkle cut fries for all--even if the execution leaves something to be desired. A Coney Island classic! Stopped here for lunch on the boardwalk and it was exactly what I was looking for. With self-order screens and tap-to-pay, Nathan's may not be quite as quaint as they once were, but they have an efficient system, nice staff, and, of course, great hot dogs. I got a coney dog with chili, diced onions, and mustard, my husband got a regular dog with ketchup and then we shared some fries. It was all pretty good and it was ready pretty fast. The Nathan's seating was full up, but there are plenty of places to sit and eat all along the pier and all have a great view of the ocean and also make for great people watching. Walk down memory lane coming to Coney Island. My friends and family were with me and telling us all the old stories of how they used to come down as kids and hang out for hours on the boardwalk and grab Nathans Hot Dogs. Superb to see a piece of history still around and thriving. Curious of the whole line of shops or at least the location itself is considered a historic landmark in general??
