I've eaten at this location of few times and it isn't as good as the one down the street. It seems as if it's an outpost of sorts because the food is never is fresh as the Surf Ave original. I've had a few things here. Hot dogs, was ok, but the bread was tough. I had a the fish and shrimp, and my advice.... stay away from the seafood. I have wanted to go to Coney Island and enjoy a Nathan's hot dog since I was about 15 years old. On a whim we decided to do a day trip and I finally got to enjoy one! The wait time was crazy, over an hour just to get a hotdogs and some fries. The staff weren't in any kinda hurry to get people their food and take orders. If it hadn't been for the manager turning to us and apologizing for the delay and assuring us she was getting ours next, this may have been 2 stars. Nathan's Famous hot dogs is an iconic spot to enjoy that most-American of foods: the casual hot dog! While I would not go so far to say that I would make this a regular haunt if I lived close by, I would certainly recommend you grab one from here purely for the experience and novelty of it. Came here with my Manhattan-based friend to enjoy all that Coney Island has to offer. Now, this being NYC, you're going to get hit where it hurts no matter what you do: right in the wallet. Even so, getting a basic dog here is not exorbitantly pricey, and it is every bit as delicious as you would expect from a place that has mastered the art of the frankfurter over decades and decades of service. We passed on fries and other menu items due to the high cost, though they looked appealing in the pictures at least. Service here is middling at best. Thankfully, this being a fast food establishment, you don't have to interact with them very long (assuming they get your order right). We were fortunate that our visit was on a day that was a little rainy, which kept the lines shorter, though it still took a surprisingly long time to process our order. You'd think they would move through customers a little faster given how short the menu is. We didn't end up waiting too long for our order, probably because they keep the regular hot dogs coming due to high demand for them. It was excellent and well-worth the cost. I doubt we would have had quite as pleasant of an experience if we had a longer/complex order or came on a nicer weather day, though I'll happily accept our good luck and shut up about it. Definitely stop by here to get a taste of true Americana! I have always wanted to visit Coney Island and famous Nathans! there are 2-3 locations of Nathans in New York but I had heard the one in Coney island was the best! Went there w my son, his girlfriend and some other friends of his, they have a great outdoor seating and surprisingly was able to find a great table while my son ordered food for us, hotdogs w chili and cheese toppings, another with onion and trimmings and two dizen oysters and clams! Oh man what a treat! All was done beautifully and my son told me how impressed he was w the oyster bar and how they prepared it all. The original Nathan's located in Coney Island is a must try when visiting. They have the original Nathan's on Surf and Broadway, right across from the main train station hub. Here you can order and dine at the restaurant or do a takeout. And also there is another spot on the boardwalk where folks usually order from and enjoy their meal either on the boardwalk or the beach. Folks come from all over the world to taste their hotdogs. I personally feel as though Nathan's serves the best hotdogs just not in NYC, but the whole world. Nathan's is just like any other food restaurant, the prices are decent and you get your food quickly. One hotdog is about $4.75. Man so disappointed with this stop. It was absolutely pure chaos. Waited in line for almost an hour watching employees run in circles banging into each other and messing up and/or forgetting orders. I don't blame them it's on management and ownership to make a system that works because this clearly doesn't. It was busy but it wasn't that busy to cause such havoc. Things moved at a snails pace in line and my buddy and I both had to ask for our stuff twice as people behind us and all over received parts and pieces of orders. My shake sat on a counter for ten minutes before I could finally get somebody to get it for me. The hot dog was not great, and honestly I've had better gas station dogs. The chili and cheese we're just bad as well. The orange cream shake however was very tasty and earns the sole star this review is giving. Visit to Coney Island during COVID 19. Quiet but the restaurants were bustling. So, I just stopped by the tourist trap-Nathans famous hot dogs. It was nice to see how Nathan's really takes advantage of the annual hot dog challenge. So looking with a set of fresh, tourist eyes, it was nice. The open air restaurant had a few lines and a few offerings. The seafood side and the hot dog side. I especially loved the wall of fame listing the names of recent past champions on the wall. Super nice. I walked up and it was a super short line. I ordered a hot dog, orange-aid and onion rings. Order was fast and quick. Dinning was outside in the open air with social distancing tables. However, just about every table was filled and one was being cleaned. I sat at a clean one and commence to eating. Good hot dog (mustard packets) and great onion rings. Orange aid was somthing I had not had in over 40 years (my mom use to make it). FYI, its lemonaid made with oranges instead of lemons. The orangeaid was cold, not overly sweet but had too little ice in it for a 95 degree day in Coney Island. I don't think these hot dogs are awful, but I do think they're vastly overrated. NY just isn't a hot dog city anymore. Chicago dogs rule, and NY has the best ethnic food - out in Queens - but its hot dogs always leave something to be desired. Gray's Papaya has very decent efforts at NY dogs, whereas Nathan's is not dirt cheap, but also not as good as it should be considering the legend surrounding it. The service was relatively fast considering they had to fry the frogs legs up fresh for me. The eating area was a section to one side where all the tables were closely placed. Okay considering it is winter and this is primarily a summertime destination, Coney Island. Hotdog one had mustard and onions. The bun was toasted, which I do not like nor remember from past hot dogs and the onions were mushy and over cooked. The second hot dog had mustard and sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was also mushy and over cooked and the bun toasted. The frogs legs were a tasty surprise. More moist than chicken with the added hint of a fish taste, deeply breaded and fried until crispy. Served with a wedge of lemon and tarter sauce. Delicious. Give it a try if you happen by. I'm heartbroken! Growing up in Brooklyn and Nathan's being one of my favorite places I was heartbroken tonight. I now live in Florida and have dreamt about going back to Nathan's for years. Today was finally the day we went and I cannot believe what they've done. First of all they totally change the layout and eliminated many of the favorites on the menu. No corn on the cob, no softshell crabs, no clams and now it's more like walking into a large Burger King or other fast food place that the employees could give it crap less about the customers. I stood in line for 11 minutes while cashiers counted coins in their til, talked and joked amongst themselves and completely ignored the customers. There were other employees walking around but not taking orders or preparingthe orders. Very inefficient.
