National is my preferred car rental company. This location is very convenient. The car rental center is a short walk from baggage claim (no shuttle needed). It is also well marked and easy to find when you drive back to the airport. My only complaint is that they do not offer club service where you can skip the counter and pick out your own car. The rental counter is often short handed and you will usually wait in line. They have been good about upgrading me to a better car than I paid for. read more

National Car Rental at the Ted Stevens International Airport is consistent. When I am renting vehicles for work, consistency is extremely important. I appreciate how they make the pick up process as fast as possible without it being a pick your own lot. I believe only once in the years I have been renting vehicle from these folks was I ever made it wait or get a less desirable vehicle (mini van). I got out to the lot and was puzzled over the lack of an Emerald Isle. Turns out renters have to check in at the desk here, according to the kind staff member in the booth. At the desk, I was quickly and efficiently processed with a delightful personality of representative Delesnie. National's cars are always in great shape and they make the process so easy. Everything is automatic. I'm driving a Chevy Malibu this trip. Fortunately it has a remote start. Which will come in handy at 6:30am and zero degrees! read more

Located at the rental car station in Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC), big green sign next to Dollar and Enterprise. Booked my reservation online the day before as the rental cars go fast in Anchorage and paid a pretty penny for a few days, the price included coverage though and unlimited miles. Roughly 86.00 per day. Five stars because: (1) the customer service agent was quick and to the point, literally less than five minutes at the desk after showing my confirmation email and (2) we waited about 10 minutes for cars (again, very busy) and for the inconvenience we got upgraded to a full-size vehicle (from our mid size) for FREE! We were able to drive a 2021 Mazda - Less than 2000 miles on it! National did a great job disinfecting the car and including extra wipes in the glove department. Everything was smooth sailing. We filled the gas tank before drop off and then got our receipt emailed to me. Very good experience and would recommend! read more

Julie is the absolute worst. I've rented from the Anchorage National location for years every 10 days. She makes snide comments and states "This is how Anchorage is." Or "This is how National works". No. It isn't. I lived in Anchorage for a decade and have rented from National for even longer. Julie runs my credit card physically, no one has ever done that. All my information is saved. She adds a full tank of gas to my reservation, which I didn't ask for. Then, after all that, she tells me that they don't have any cars available and it'll "be a while." I asked for her just to back out my reservation and refund whatever she physically charged to my credit card. Again, my information is ALL saved. It's supposed to be a grab and go situation based on my tier and status with National. She tells me that she will "back it out." I told her that I wanted confirmation that she "backed it out." Since in 10+ years, no one at National has ever physically touched my credit card and "ran" it. It's just on file and they verify my ID. She backed it out and for some reason it still has paper copy charges showing. This is my third encounter with Julie. All of them have been awful. She needs to be let go. She is not happy about her job, treats other younger women very condescendingly, and she's just a really shitty person. Please, National Anchorage, get rid of Julie. She sucks. I canceled my reservation today, I have 30 more pending reservations already scheduled in Anchorage. Clearly, you don't need my business, but it would be nice to know that someone actually cared. In response to National's response: I'm not going to resend the details to an email address. If you're responding to reviews on Yelp for National, the authority should be there to look me up in your system and do something about Julie. If you do not have any authority, you should not be responding to reviews. I notice that all the bad reviews that are responded to are discredited. That's bullshit. It's as if you're trying to discredit a bad review. I'm easily looked up by my name: Jesika Harrell. There are not any other Jesika Harrell renters in your reservation system. I am sure of that. My details are above. You all need to do something about Julie. For those that don't know: National also owns Alamo and Enterprise. So, be careful with whom you choose. If you're not able to do something about Julie for a 13 year avid customer, I will be switching right next door to Hertz, not just in Anchorage, but in every airport that I rent from. It's painful to think that I have to work my way through another company to get to the tier that I am with at National, but if that is the solution here, then I will do so. But I absolutely will not be treated poorly by Julie again just because she hates her job and is technology challenged. There are spectacular agents at the National Anchorage counter such as Tahira and Corey. They always take such good care of me. I makes me sad to think that I'll be loosing my relationship with wonderful people like Tahira and Corey because of awful Julie. DO SOMETHING ABOUT JULIE!! read more

If you are so lucky to have Mr. Henry M., you just won! His customer service far exceeds the necessary effort to get the job done. Not only did he help taylor a car to our needs but he gave us some suggestions that fit our budget and desires. The prices were consistent with other mid-cost rental car providers, but maybe a little better. I rent from National quite a bit - my experience in Alaska recently didn't quite meet the standards the brand sets elsewhere. I'm leaving this review for the Anchorage location because of the return experience and I suspect the car I rented was an Anchorage-based car (from the address on the registration). Good news: I was able to reserve a one-way rental from Fairbanks to Anchorage and the counter at Fairbanks was pretty quick in the great rental car shortage of 2021. Bad news: 2019 Fusion with 33k miles on the ticker, 30 psi in the front drivers tire (vs. 40 in the other three - a nail?), La-Z-Boy suspension, and no washer fluid. And, despite fueling up at the Tesoro 1.7 miles away, I was charged for five gallons of fuel. A call in to National Corporate ended up with the fuel charge refunded (fortunately, that was quick), but it felt unnecessary. I appreciate that rental cars are scarce in Alaska right now and the fleet might not be the latest and greatest - but it doesn't feel like an excuse to forego maintenance or fleece your loyal customers for an extra twenty bucks. read more

Rented online through Expedia and got an awesome rate. Was really pleased with the ease of check in and check out. Totally painless.The whole process took about 3 minutes. The rental counter is right there at the tail end of Ted Steven's International airport. The full-sized car I rented was in excellent condition and handled the icy roads really well even though the car didn't have snow tires. My only complaint is that National didn't put an ice-scraper in the car, and c'mon, this is Alaska, so I woulda thought that would have been a courtesy. I decided to keep the car an extra day. Called the desk and it was so simple... they just asked for my contract # and that was it. No fuss, no muss. Thankfully the Christmas rush hadn't started quite yet or I might have been out of luck. A few days later I tried to rent and there was NOTHING to be had... not even a moped. LOL! My only other complaint was that the awesome rate that I had was just for weekends (which neither they, nor Expedia, ever mentioned.) When I called and told the guy I wanted the car one more day, he informed me the price more than tripled AND that the price tripling would be RETROACTIVE to the Saturday and Sunday I rented. THAT is some serious bullshit, so I told him to forget it and I made other arrangements. At least the guy told me, so I was thankful for that, but I think that's a ridiculous policy that National needs to rethink. For that reason, even though I loved my National car, I'd rent from Thrifty again, before I would use National. Drop off was a snap though. 30 seconds and I was done. Love it. All in all, it was a good experience though. read more

Got to the rental counter 45 mins before opening, so i was able to look at the full size suv before opening. They had only 2 available, an expedition and a suburban. Once they opened and after helping someone ahead of me, i was greeted by a friendly employee. I was assigned the 2018 Ford Expedition Limited with over 20000 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was in good condition and was roomy for 5 ppl with luggage. We took the vehicle to Denali and back and went around Anchorage during the 3 days we had it. The suv used considerable less gas than I expected, probably due to the ecoboost engine. Returning the vehicle was hassle free. The staff looked over the suv and checked the gas/miles. In less than a minute i was on my way. I would highly recommend using National at Anchorage Airport. read more

Emerald Counter here, there is no Emerald or Executive or Executive Elite aisle in Anchorage. But they're still friendly and they'll give you a choice of keys from what they have in stock. Be warned that in the wintertime, not all of their cars are equipped for Alaska conditions. So you'll want to be sure you've got decent tires and a lot of heat. Ours did. read more

I have never had to wait for a car since we have the National Emerald Club membership. We are used to choosing our car and leaving, which is a nice perk of being an Emerald Club member. At this airport, this is not the case. You have to wait in a long line that moves really slow. There is a lack of workers and it took us a long time to get a car. Beware!!! Check your receipt, they might have snuck pre-paid fuel in your bill, which you did not request. I caught them twice and the last one got away. I specifically told them not to include that option because i always fill up when i return the car. For some reason they are very clever with this thing. Check your receipts!!! They used to be very good but not anymore. The National rental in Juneau are respectable. Now the one in Anchorage is a different story. They are bad. Beware!!! What a horrible experience. When you land in ANC at 0100, the last thing you want to do is stand in line for 45 minutes and still have 10 people in front of you. Only one person working National and Alamo and by the way this line is moving I'll be here another 2 hours at least. No Emerald Club service at all. I usually love National but they need to do something about this location. And I just heard a lady said they're running out of cars. Perfect. I will say the man behind the counter is fantastic. Great customer service. I have rented here times from them. In particular Minoru is the best customer service agent I have ever dealt with. He is fantastic. On two times, I had raservation with the other rental companies but was not tested well and I went to this counter : WITHOUT A RESERVATION. After a long day of travel. I get into Anchorage. approach rental car and they tell me they are out of cars! no sorry, let us help you find alternative means of transportation. I travel with a Top 500 company and they make us chose between National and Enterprise. I will be telling them that they left me stranded at the airport, and that we should look for alternative companies. The employees here have no empathy at all. Finally getting around to writing this review. My wife and I arrived at the airport in Anchorage at 2am. It says on their site they are open until 2:30am. We were there just past 2:15am. When we arrived at the counter there was nobody to be found they had closed early. The guy at the Hertz counter says it happens all the time because they don't have enough cars at the time of the day. They apparently need to wait in the morning until they have more cars returned. Not sure if that's true but even if you don't have cars why would you close early if you know you have a client coming. Just to show we are not making this up National can look up our reservation number at 391653310. Fortunately there was another rental car company that saved the day. It was a 2 weeks rental so National definitely lost out. Would never rent from them again!! read more

We landed from San Francisco and went to get our car from Budget, but they had given away our reservation without so much as a text, call or email. We had made the reservation weeks ago so the price for a car shot up $200/day. Thankfully Ritah at National was soooo awesome, got us a reasonably priced car and saved our honeymoon. Recently returned from AK vacation. At the airport, our original rental company informed me that our car rental fee had gone from 80.00/day to 120.00/day, without prior warning. I started scrambling from rental kiosk to rental kiosk trying to find someone willing to give us a better deal than 120.00/day.
