Updating my review since they were able to provide me a car earlier than 1pm...but only after I called them at noon myself also rly annoying how you can't find direct phone number for this location. I've rented several times from this location and had good experiences but my experience today was horrible- not sure if they have a new manager or what. I had a rental pick up at 9am. Was running a bit late and they call me at 9:45AM saying they don't have enough cars and are getting them from SEA-TAC airport and none would be available until earliest 1PM!!! WHAT THE EFF?!?! How are you calling me AFTER my appointment to tell me no cars are available and why did you not have any cars properly available for all the remaining rentals that day? And why is it going to take 4 hours for you to get cars over from an airport that's an hour away?!?! Completely unacceptable and didn't offer any sort of benefit or compensation for this. read more

I have been renting cars from National for years(for business and pleasure both), this is the first time I rented from a non-airport location as I am not flying due to COVID. It was nothing but a bad experience compounded by more bad experiences. Pick up - I reached for my pickup at the allotted time. As many others have said, they didnt have the car ready despite having a reservation. One of the employees actually tried to hustle me into either getting a minivan or paying for an upgrade to a SUV. Dirty tactics as is evident from the number of people complaining about it. I insisted on getting the car I reserved and I was told to wait. Around an hour later I finally got a car. For what its worth the lady who actually checked me out was not sketchy like the man who tried to hustle me into getting that SUV or my only other option was a minivan. Drop Off - I dropped off the car on Sunday night despite having the rental till Monday morning. It was an after hours drop off and thankfully i took photos of the car and the notepad. 2 full business days later, its still not checked in. I have no idea if one of the people at the lot damaged it in 2 days, or they took it for a joyride. The customer care tells me they escalated the matter but I got no meaningful response. I wrote to the manager of the location whose number is listed. No response yet. My app tells me my rental is 2 days overdue but I dont have an invoice and I dont have a check in confirmation. Its so stressful to not know whats happening, why the car is not checked in and to have a customer service that has no connection to the branch. National, i really expect better from you! read more

Tl;dr: I was forced to either upgrade for an extra charge or wait an hour to get a car that I reserved! I've rented cars many times from this National location, and often they have gone without a problem - not the case with this past trip. I reserved a midsize car on their website weeks in advance, but when I arrived in the morning, they said there were no midsize cars left. They told me my options were to either upgrade to an SUV for an extra $30 per day or wait an hour while they drive up extra cars from SeaTac Airport. Imagine showing up to a restaurant with reservations to be told "oops, we overbooked but you can upgrade to a different table for an extra $60 or wait an hour for your table to open up." I had time-sensitive plans, so was forced to take the upgrade. The people at the counter were not at all fazed by the situation, which tells me that they regularly overbook their cars to force an upsell. I have been a loyal National customer for years now, but will be trying out the competition. I hope they're better in this regard, but kind of doubt it. Not sure what a good solution is - maybe reserve cars from several companies and hope for the best? Also, the last several times returning cars after-hours at National have all been chaotic. There is barely enough room to fit all the cars, and this past time, one car blocked an entire column of spots, which forced people to park on the spiral ramp. Visitors from out of town obvi...we had reserved a car from the National Car Rental at Sea-Tac and once we actually figured out where the airport was...we thought better of that plan and wanted to actually pick up a car closer to downtown Seattle. The national National Car Rental line said this downtown location was oversold and didn't have any vehicles available, but we were able to book online? Confusing. So we just rolled up hoping for the best and explained our situation to the friendly guys at the office. They were literally so so helpful and kind and got us a perfect car. I think he even went to a different floor and pulled it out of the car wash because the other option was a minivan. Super great, super smooth experience! After renting from this location three times, my experience has justified a solid 5-star review. I always rent with National due to a corporate discount program, but have rented from various neighborhood/airport locations between National/Enterprise but this downtown location has been by far my favorite. All three times, I've been able to get a near-brand new car (all under 100 miles), and they were impeccably clean! During pick-up and drop off, I always greeted by helpful and friendly staff, eager to help me should I have any questions or concerns. Most recently, I used a free day coupon which was only eligible for intermediate-class rentals, but the staff at the counter gave me a free upgrade without any questions! Moreover, the car we got was super clean and fully upgraded with all the bells and whistles so it was a very comfortable car for our roadtrip! Great service & great car selection! read more

Rented twice from this location. First off, location is great. Right in the center of the city, only a few blocks away from Pike Place Market. I had a good experience both times, but my second visit was especially smooth thanks to Mr. Mike Glass. Mike made sure we were fully covered on the vehicle, without unnecessarily trying to have us sign up for the rental car company's insurance which most other companies do. He made everything go smooth. When we got there there was only 1 minivan available right away which had a low gas tank. Instead of having us wait, he pulled up a Full size SUV as compensation. We always get our rentals through National because we get a corporate discount from our job. However, this was our first trip to Seattle and we were so disappointed in how dirty this car was. We rushed to pick a small suv because we had reservations and already was falling short on time. As you can see the car was NOT cleaned at all before they parked it in the lot. It was so disappointing putting family members into a disgusting car. The only reason I've given them 2 stars instead of 1 is because their customer service on the floor are always so kind. But this car, was completely unacceptable to the point were considering no longer using National as our rental service. So upsetting! read more

The car we ended up with had a full tank instead of a quarter, with such great fuel economy we didn't have to stop for gas to/from Rainier. Had a great experience here, which is surprising for a rental car company. Here's why: -Rates were affordable. I got a Ford Focus for $260 for 2 weeks, including taxes. -Staff were friendly and competent. -I didn't get the usual pressure to purchase unnecessary add-ons, like GPS or additional insurance. -They were fast and efficient. I rented a car from National at Downtown Seattle after completed an Alaska Cruise. (Taxi fare: $16 from Pier 91) We spend a few days in Seattle, Renton and Bellevue. We had an Altima, very nice car, pleasant to drive. The front desk person was very cordial and friendly. When we returned the car, the person at Airport greeted us with a big smile and quickly finish the paper work ($94). What a pleasure to rent a car from National! We have rented from this National location twice so far -- both times we have had great experiences! Unlike some other rental places in the area, the garage here is very well marked and has a super easy return system, even after-hours. The customer service is what really sets it apart, though. The representative we worked with, Michael G., was so friendly and helpful, and left us smiling as we headed out for our ski excursion! Was returning a rental on Sunday before closing hours - there were three people at the location - a lady behind the counter and two other people who were busy washing cars. The return "lane" was blocked by a large SUV parked in the middle which ensured that I had to stop and disembark from the car right next to where the cars were being washed. I ended up waiting several minutes for someone to come over but they were busy. I decided to leave the car where it was (with keys left in the car) since I had refueled (and had the receipt to prove the same) and usually rely on the email receipt anyways (executive elite member). One of the people who were washing the car then requested me to drive around the parked SUV and move the car further up by moving the parking cones that were marking the return "Lane". Almost the entire floor was wet (water all over) and I ended up slipping as a result. Easily my worst experience with National ever. read more

This is a small location, and they do not have Emerald Aisle, which I did not know. So technically my executive club status wouldn't mean much here, but our guy Mike did what he could to make things a little better for us. For that I'm giving it four stars. Easy to rent from these guys. The lot is located in a parking garage within a block of the Westgate train station. You don't have to pay all of the "facility recoup" fees downtown that they have to charge visitors coming in to Sea-tac (saved me $55 right there). I was unaware of the line around 10am, so got stuck in the cruise ship wait line upstairs (the photo was accurate). As I was frantically calling to postpone my appointment, the office in the garage must have seen my pacing around on the phone, and my cursing. They did provide good customer service in terms of a discount (I won't go into too many specifics because everyone will start demanding it, but they did enough to raise from a one star rating to a three.) It is a tight space, which probably adds to the wait, but I'm not sure what they can do about that. I will go back, but probably closer to opening to avoid the cluster!@#$ that is their rental space during cruise ship hours. read more

We rented a car from National in August. We chose prepay @ $4../gallon. The car had about 1/3 of a tank of gas when we got it. We were told to return it on empty and expected to pay for about 5-6 gallons at $4 something per gallon. Instead, we were charged $6.02 for a full tank for a total of $78 +. We contacted National to resolve this a week ago but still have not gotten a reply. If this is resolved, we would consider revising the rating. read more

My friend and i drove around in a National rental for two months and she had a minor accident at some point, we got the biggest and most expensive insurance that covers absolutely everything they had to offer, but we've been battling National for over two months now - having to prove to them that yes we had that covered, and yes, we have that covered too... now they've come up with a third accusation of us supposedly not having "this covered" and are refusing to acknowledge our original contract. If things don't get any better, we will have to go to court over this! They've also made sure to threaten my friend with all sorts of scary things like "if you don't pay this amount (not a small amount, mind you) whithin two weeks time - we will revoke your driver's license and confiscate your belongings". Man, are they nasty! read more

The car I got was fantastic, but I had to stand in a long, hot line for about 55 minutes (I started my stopwatch after a while) before getting the car. Everything had already been set up online ahead of time, and I did ask the one guy at the counter, John (who had to cover both National and Alamo car rentals, if there was backup, and if we had to stand in this line if we already had the reservation in hand. After around 40 minutes, John told us that there was a second office upstairs with two people, and some people in our line were sent upstairs to wait in that (shorter) line. At around 50 minutes, a second helper arrived at the ground floor desk. Looking at other reviews now, it seems that 10 am (when I arrived) is a particularly bad time. I had a late flight the night before and took the LINK train from the airport to downtown to save $100 on the rental car vs renting at the airport, and should have tried to get to the office a little earlier. The workers were very courteous, and doing the best they could under the circumstances. They just had to deal with understaffing and an extremely inefficient process. Fixing that would make all the difference. I returned my car to the SEA TAC airport instead (no change in price), and that was a VERY fast and efficient process, more what I was used to. read more

National was efficient making reservations and when I picked up the car. The car was exceptionally nice - an almost new Buick that was a great road car and it handled well in the city. Checking the car back in was super easy and was quick. National sets the bar fairly high and the downtown Seattle agency and the Seattle airport agency met or exceeded those high standards. With one exception, noted below, I would always use National. One warning - NEVER rent from National in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - worst rental agency I have ever experienced any where in the world. read more

The rental experience was okay. I requested a minivan and the "nicest" one had 20,000 miles on it and was showing very obvious signs of rental car abuse. The fuel tank was not full because they don't have the ability to fuel vehicles at this facility. I had to point out that the tank was not full and then was told to bring it back with the same amount. So not a problem but I wouldn't have been happy if I'd had to bring it back full after getting it with 5/8 of a tank. The return was simple enough and no problem. IMy first choice is always National. This time in Seattle it was cheeaper to use the downtown location for the initial rental, so the extra copst of the cab from the airport was more than offset. Downtown is convenient. The care was showing its wear, particularly on the inside, no front seat floor mat, stay in the rear- all on a fairly new car; however, it was licensed in CA so maybe the wear and tear occurred there. Turn in is convenient at the airport and the people at the downtown location were quick and friendly. So, still a good experience. read more

Rented a car to pick up in downtown Seattle, since it was cheaper than at the airport. Took light rail into downtown from airport (a breeze to do and fun viewing). Got off the train at the end of the line a block from the National office. Got the rental paperwork done with no problem and went up into the parking garage to the car area. Since we were downtown already, I had the idea of leaving our luggage in the car, and leaving car there while we had lunch downtown. The staff at the garage refused to do this -- the explanation was that the garage would not allow it. This didn't make a lot of sense, but they wouldn't budge. So we had to leave downtown without seeing it or having lunch. It seemed like such a simple request that could have been accommodated and would have made our experience in Seattle much more enjoyable. Otherwise the desk staff was very nice and professional, and the car was fine. I've been an Emerald Club member for about 10 years. read more

I had amazing service from the Seatac airport location on August 28th 2014 (going into a busy labor day weekend). I had rented a car through a different company, and found out that day when I came to get the car they did not allow their cars to leave the state. I was in need of a car to drive to Montana for my grandfather's funeral. After cancelling my order with the other company I wandered down the row of rental places and randomly walked up to National. Sandy greeted me and was so kind. She took me at my word with no questions asked when I explained the situation. She was compassionate! She was upfront the rates would be high due to it being labor day. I was blown away by her kindness, willingness to help me, and humanity. She asked if I worked for a big company of any kind and I explained that my husband works for Boeing in everett. However, I had no proof other than I was on his insurance but my insurance card didn't say "boeing" on it. She again took me at my word. She gave us the Boeing discount and I ended up in a beautiful car at a great price. I have never rented a car before but in the future when we do (we are going to San Diego in March) it will be from National. Life time customer! Also- the car we recieved was in great condition 2014. You get to pick which car you want out of a row of cars which I thought was pretty fun. The first car I hoped in had its "service engine soon" light on. But no problem! I mentioned it to the attendant at the lot and she instantly scanned it and said "oh our error! It is over mileage for it's oil change just go select another one". Easy as pie! Our car worked great for our trip to Montana and back. read more

Only rented for one day-a brief stay before cruising. Staff was efficient, kind, fast! Location was a little hard to get to, but it was my first trip to Seattle! Use to only use Enterprise but was persuaded to try National when we sailed to Hawaii in January. Rented in Maui, Honolulu, Kuaia, and Hilo. GREAT service at all!!
