Never rent from this company!!!! I rented from them in December due to having to travel for a funeral, when I returned the vehicle they did a walk around inspection and said everything looks good, then later there system sends u an email that they found 2000 dollars damage ( for a scratcj on the bumper) they tacked on 400 dollars for "depreciation" because I mean nothing depreciates the value like having to touchup a bumper. I contested it given the walk around report asking for the pics of the last return, they didn't respond and instead sent it to a collection agency after only 8 weeks. My card insurance will pay for everything but the depreciation but I'm so pissed about them sending it to collections when I had an open complaint to them. Terrible company, I looked later they are recording every little stone dong etc, which is standard wear and tear on a vehicle, my guess is AI gone amuck and alienating customers. Update (12/29/25): Sixt makes me sick. Dealing with their claims process and the non-sense associated with it, I would like to add more details on how shady this company really is. - The damage estimate was overestimated by 16%. Sixt still pursed the full amount of repair after the insurance payout. - A large diminished value claim was added to the damage. This car has numerous items of damage prior to me picking it up. This car already has diminished value based on these damages and the fact that the car is a rental. This is supported by a document from my insurance company. Sixt still pursed these damages. - The QR code for documenting damage on the rental contract was not working as I was a "walk-up" according to the attendant. I should have done a better job of documenting the car's state, but Sixt should also do their part to have the damage reporting infrastructure functional for all customers. I also feel like this is intentional to deter damage reporting. - An administration fee of $200 was added to the damage. According to my insurance company this should be the cost of doing business. These are also completely arbitrary according to their own website (https://www.sixt.com/help-center/articles/vehicle-damage/). According to this link, these are "subject to change upon our review." In order words, they will charge you the full amount until you complain about it. - I was not able to negotiate on any of these issues despite any messages they post to the contrary. When I rented a car for a family vacation, SIXT gave me a defective car which had a bad transmission and left me stranded on the road in Beacon Hill for 5 hours at night. When I called their customer service line, they transferred me to their roadside service line. And when I got connected to their roadside service line, they told me to contact customer service. Then after 2 more back and forth telephone transfers over the course of an hour, they told me to wait and that a tow was on its way free of charge with a replacement vehicle, and that they would update me on the progress. After an hour, I called back in and they made me do the same transfer back and forth for another hour (at this point, about 10pm) before I got sent to someone who said there was never a request made for a tow and that I would have to stay with car until another team came back in the morning. I told them it was a bad neighborhood and they said to call the cops, schedule my own tow at my own expense, or pay for the full price of the car if something happened to it. I asked to speak to the supervisor and they told me there were no supervisors and then hung up on me. I called back in, they transferred me around back and forth again and after ANOTHER HOUR, they promised again that they would schedule a tow free of charge with a vehicle replacement. BY 1 AM IN THE MORNING, a tow truck finally appears with the promised car. Now look here, half a year later and they're demanding I pay the tow fees. They gave me a bad car that left me stranded me in a bad neighborhood past midnight, jerking me around back and forth and demand I pay the full price of the booking all over again for the pleasure of the experience. SIXT is cheap for a reason. They have a fleet of bad cars, have absolutely no training for their phone staff, and worse, are happy to strand you in any city you're visiting then charge you for the hassle. I have a photo here of them trying to cheat their own towing company and send them after me to collect. If that's how SIXT treats their own team that makes them money, what do you think they'd be willing to do to you? I've been a Sixt Gold member for almost 7 years and it looks like it's going downhill from what it used to be. What initially attracted me was competitive pricing, nice cars (you could often get a free upgrade), quick and knowledgeable staff. What I saw this time wasn't quite up to that standard. We showed up at our pick up time and were told our car (BMW X3) wasn't there yet. We were offered a GMC Acadia or a BMW sedan instead which is not something you'd want to drive if you paid for a premium SUV. We had to wait for an hour until the car finally arrived. The check-in process was very slow even though I booked the car and provided my information online months ago. The staff extended our rent time by an hour but didn't offer anything else to compensate for the wait time and inconvenience which was frustrating. The drop-off was also pretty slow as there was only one employee working the counter and it took forever for people in front of us to get all the car paperwork done. I really liked Sixt but in the world of Turo and Silvercar it makes me less likely to rent from them again in the future. read more

We rented a car from Sixt Ireland (Dublin Airport) in October 2025. On our trip around the Ring of Kerry, the rear tire suddenly burst. The tire technician confirmed both rear tires were completely bald and the front tires were also badly worn -- the car was not roadworthy when rented. Sixt initially blamed us for "under-inflation," which the technician said was false. Since then, they've ignored three follow-up emails and provided no reimbursement or acknowledgment. We've filed complaints with the CCPC and ECC Ireland over the unsafe condition of the vehicle. Extremely disappointing experience and a serious safety concern for future customers. read more

When I attempted to show her the call log on my phone proving it was their number she continued to yell at me that I called the wrong number and that she will call the police if I don't leave. So I was left stranded without a rental car I had already paid in full for. They stole my money and threatened to call the police on me for refusing to pay more than I was told it would be. You will regret going here. The bad reviews are 100% true. What they are doing here is criminal fraud and should be investigated by the WA state attorney general. Bait and switch pricing is illegal in WA state. Report their fraud to the authorities when it happens to you! I will be. The employees also appear to enjoy blatantly violating consumer protection laws, it's truly disgusting behavior. They seem to think it's funny or amusing. Sixt sends emails saying you did damage to their car, demanding payment! I sent photos of the pre-existing damage (always take photos and videos of your rental car), along with a not saying I'm also happy to join in a class action and boom - Sixt LMK I no longer owed them money. We arrived at airport around 9:30-10pm & they gave us a different vehicle than what was ordered. of course, you sign contract without seeing car first & it was a black car & the garage was dimly lit- the car had damage on wheel base & we didn't see it til the next morning - we called & sent pictures immediately when we saw the damage on car which we didn't do & they recommended we bring it back in & theyd give us another one which we did (we didn't have that car 24 hrs). I started renting cars with Sixt a few months ago. Initially, the experience was very positive. Good cars, easy check-in/check-out, and the ability to earn Marriott points with rentals. However, after my last rental, the company sent me an email showing that the car was damaged. I barely drove the car and can assure you that I caused no damage. Too bad that I trusted my initial positive impression of the company and took no pictures or videos. If you read the reviews about Sixt, you'll see multiple reports similar to mine. That's ok; lesson learned, notes taken. My insurance company will take care of that, and my credit card will also pay for any primary damage. But Sixt is dead for me from now on. Since then, I've moved all my business to National, which is a way better company than Sixt (but unfortunately, a bit more expensive). But I'd rather pay more for car rental than play games with Sixt. My suggestion is to pay your rental fees with National using your Visa Infinite credit card (if you have one), which will offer a substantial discount and automatic elite status. You don't get that with Sixt. I guess National will be happy to have me as their client who needs to rent cars at SeaTac at least monthly for the next 14 years. Another event that I witnessed during my last rental was an Asian lady who was talking to another customer agent, and apparently, she struggled to breathe because of the heated conversation with the agent. No one at the office offered her any help, and I was the only one who told her to go outside and breathe fresh air. I wish I had more time to help her, but I was extremely late with the personal matters I needed to take care of. I hope the lady is doing well. I drive a lot of luxury cars and my daily driver is a Beamer but I'll tell you something - just take public transportation. Bus, Link, Uber, or, hell, even a Lime scooter. Upon return, I've been told that I have these dings and scratches surrounding the car (which I don't even understand how a single rental with no incident can cause). Imagine yourself at an airport needing to catch a flight just to have some teenage kid go up and down jotting down every damage that you did not cause. Then, they show you tons of pictures of blemishes that were probably on there before you. I kind of bet that they have a specific car with tons of damages to rent out to suckers. I got sent a claim for $25.00 for an evaluation of the damages ... and another $1100 dollar damage for some scratches on the wheel and the bumper. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do other than deal with an insurance company. Therefore, I will caution you all: do NOT give into the temptation of renting a car from this company. This business relationship between you and SIXT will end in tears. They nickel and dime, I mean, hundreds and thousands out of you. Their cars are rented w/ existing dents and scratches, and a day or two after you return your rental, they attempt to bill you for damages that you didn't cause. They never fix the vehicle's dents/scratches, they just try to pass the liability from one renter to the next. Rinse and repeat, hoping that you'll pay up even when you're not responsible. Never rent from this company! Paid for full coverage insurance and once we returned from our trip, months later they claimed we caused 2,100 euros worth of damage. (a scratch on the door where another car hit it and a cracked grill on the front of the car) There was no damage to the car that we were aware of and they are insisting we pay for it. I rented a car from Sixt back in November and my issue has still not been resolved. I rented a car for for several days. I picked up the car a few hours early and they charged me for an extra day. That has never happened to any other rental company. I was unable to drive their car for three days during my rental because the Low Engine Oil Light came on. I was afraid to drive the car because I didn't know what would happen to the car. I had to cancel my remaining plans because I didn't have access to another vehicle. I was finally able to get on the phone with someone from Sixt. After about an hour conversation, I was told they could only refund two days of my rental, at this time I was like ok. I received an email from Sixt asking for my bank information, however, they would only refund $50 dollars. My daily rental was more then the $50 they are trying to refund me. All I can say, is never rent from this company. Their customer service is horrible and they should be a shame of themselves. When I picked up the car at the counter I told the representative I didn't want the additional coverage. When I turned the car back in I was charged for the additional coverage. This review is only for my return experience. First, shout out to Marzini who is above and beyond providing assistance during the return after hour (5pm). Now a warning for all rental. If you are thinking the car return would simply drop of at parking lot at any hour, then don't plan to return at this location. The rental return instructions indicating drop off the car in the parking garage and drop off key, however the parking garage gate is closed and no access after 4pm. These experienced is different with other rental company from my previous experience. I also called the customer service hotline and she also claimed that I should drop of in the garage, and drop off the the key, yet again I told her the gate is closed. Luckily, Marzini is willing to open the gate for me on her way out from the office. My recommendation for SIXT is to post a large bold warning /reminder that you cannot return after hours. We had a good experience with Sixt on our recent vacation. The car was clean and the process was swift.

At pick up there was a dent by the gas cap I noticed right away. I was instructed to use the provided QR code form to report any damages. I followed the prompts from the QR code and took photos of the dent. After returning the vehicle, Sixt sent photos of the dent via a non-reply email, saying it was new. The only way I could respond was through a form link in the email. Through that I told them I had submitted photos of that dent to their QR report as instructed before the trip. Then I get an email with a $1,300 bill. Again a non-reply. I called claims management and they condescendingly told me I should have taken my own photos of the damage, as instructed on site. I was not instructed to do that, I was instructed to use their QR code form for reporting damages. After some circular talk they said they would waive the charges, but they did not accept accountability. They said I'd get an email in 3-5 minutes waiving the fees. An hour later I did. The waiver reiterated that they were not accepting accountability. Lesson learned to NOT take their advice and use their QR code form to report damages, because they either don't communicate internally about it or they use it as a chance to stick you with charges. If you have to use Sixt, take your own damage photos, be prepared to be blamed for damage that's already there, and to be talked down to when contesting their false claims. read more

I checked out with an attendant that said everything looked good. Then a few days later I get an email stating that there was a scratch on the bumper. They asked that I fill out an emailed questionnaire on the incident. I was clear that I checked the car for damage before and after the rental and there was no damage when I left the car. I didn't hear anything for a couple weeks. Then I get a bill emailed stating that I owed hundreds of dollars for the repair. I am certai there was no damage. I am careful checking. I've used this rental company before and I must say; I like them and I learn a lot. They are quite efficient. 1 person at the counter and 6 empty desks. Got lucky and stood in Line for less than 10 mins when a 2nd worker came out from the back room. Although the sales lady TRIED to up-sell us and upgrade our Kia SUV to a Mercedes SUV and TRIED to add on Toll-Booth fees which wasn't necessary - we didn't upgrade; and she was overall friendly. And we didn't end up going through a Toll-Booth so props to us! ;p Glad we shop smart and cheap! Haha! Well as cheap as possible through the Travelocity package. We definitely enjoyed our Mid-size Kia SUV which was very clean and surprisingly spacious! Got the pre-paid gas added on to make things a lot easier when we return and it sure was! :) Considering we took the "Scenic route" back to the airport aka we got lost even with GPS and did a free tour of Matson industrial sites! It was my understanding they did not have any cars available. I have MS and had to stand the entire time. I was in tears. I've never had something like this happen to me and I've never written a bad review, but this situation was so horrible. When I finally got the car I could barely stand. I can't believe this happened to me. Sixt Rent a Car didn't even tell people what was going on and we just stood there in line for hours waiting. I picked up a car in Nantes, France. The car was fine, I was upgraded to a BMW from a Peugeot. The problem is the fine print with the Credit card insurance which states no BMW, or luxury cars even though this is Europe and it was a 200 series car, which I believe is more an everyday car and not high end. Does the CC insurance cover? Does it not? I was going to risk it, but the person at the desk said "you really shouldn't leave with a 67k Euro car and no insurance". The government mandates insurance on every car and there WAS an insurance card taped to the windshield. But I was offered useless insurance at nearly 30 Euro a day with a 2500 Euro deducible. There were no other cars to rent. This insurance doesn't even cover tires or anything practical. It's in French, so I don't really get the full picture. The way its presented, feels like it is commission driven. A little hard sell. When returning the car, it is gone over with extra scrutiny. Low and behold a scratch on the wheel! A damage report and a cost of ~$500 usd to my credit card. I should have stuck with Enterprise! I have rented cars many times and have never had an issue. This feels like it pretty much just the way they do business, charging renters fees for "damage" that may or may not have occured and selling bogus insurance. This happened to the older couple returning their car next in line, behind me as well. If you do use this company, take a very detailed video of the car as your proof. Don't buy their bogus insurance. Buy a policy online beforehand, its much cheaper and I think you would have zero or a very low out of pocket deductible. Maybe, don't use SIXT to begin with. This feels very consumer unfriendly. Other companies don't operate like this. Live and learn, I guess. I am not using SIXT again when there are other companies around. read more

I thought the staff at Sixt was cordial and helpful. They had the car type I requested and it was an quick processing time. The return took less than 5 minutes. The car was clean and had very little mileage. Great spot to rent from if you're staying in downtown Seattle. Also very quick to the Piers to travel into Olympic National Park. read more

Remember $200 deposit you pay when you check in? You'll never see that money again. SIXT will sneak in some extra charge after the trip (like you were 15 min late or car was returned a bit dirty etc.). SIXT is also sneaky with hidden fees for toll charges. They charge $5 per toll event on top. My toll bill was $32 but SIXT charge my card for $159. Why would private company charge extra for state owned road? I was never told about this fee and that I could purchase express toll pass beforehand when booked the car and checked in. Nobody told about that. Afterwards, SIXT being sneaky, charged credit card 2 weeks after trip. Simply worst car rental experience. read more

They gave us the car without a full tank and then charged $40 for 1/4 of the tank. Then they sent us a toll bill for $50 when the toll was $9 total.
