I gave the owner/groomer explicit instructions that NO hair was to be cut, trimmed, clipped or shaved (ex between her paw pads). She violated these directives and made a mess of my dog''s coat. Her coat has been clipped short and unevenly; the long dense feathers on her belly and legs have been trimmed and thinned raggedly, and entirely cut away between her hind legs; she was given a rough blunt sanitary trim; there are blotchy areas that are chopped to less than 1/2"; her head and legs have been shaved, and her ears cut lopsidedly; and her long thick ruff is cut short and thinned. Ironically the hair between her paw pads was not touched; I told the owner this is the one area where she could be trimmed. She didn't even brush her out; she has been shedding all over my furniture. The owner denies she did anything more than bathe her (and says she has a video to prove it). This is simply not true; my dog's coat is proof enough (and I have taken photos to document it). I have consistently worked to preserve my dog's thick, full-bodied coat and dense, long feathers. The quality of her double coat has been compromised, as have the insulation and protection it offers. It will take months with careful, consistent grooming for it to return- I hope- to its natural state. If you want your dog's naturally lush double coat preserved, and your instructions followed with honest communication, avoid this business.

I cannot recommend Riverdale Groomers enough, specifically their groomer Lolo, who did a phenomenal job with my dog, Henry! ‍ THE BACKGROUND: Henry is a 3-year-old Field English Cocker Spaniel with incredibly thick, curly hair . Henry is an active boy who spends a lot of time off-leash on the trails, which means he constantly collects dirt, burrs, and debris in his coat! Between our busy schedules and it being over a year since his last professional groom, his fur had truly gotten out of hand . He had significant matting, especially in tricky areas like his armpits and ears . Lolo definitely had a lot of work on their hands, but they handled it with an incredible amount of quality care and meticulous attention to detail . Henry also deals with some codependency and anxiety issues. While we've been to major chains like Petco and PetSmart in the past--and they did a fine job--nothing compares to the quality of work Lolo provided . Lolo took all of my disclaimers about Henry's temperament to heart and used genuine TLC to ensure he had the best experience possible . Because Henry has a solid black coat, he attracts a lot of heat , and the weight of the matted curls was really weighing him down . I told Lolo to go "to the leather" (a close shave), and they executed it perfectly while refining the mohawk I requested! What really blew me away was their availability! Most groomers in the area (and surrounding neighborhoods) are booked out for weeks, if not months. Riverdale Groomers was able to offer me a same-day appointment or a slot just three days later! This is a total lifesaver if you need grooming on short notice, whether you're about to travel or just want your pup looking fresh sooner rather than later . The communication is also top-tier . They send a text the moment your dog is ready for pickup, and they actually answer the phone when you call! No dealing with annoying AI robots or leaving voicemails that never get returned-ugh. I'm not sure if they are a family-run business, but they certainly act like one! They truly care about their furry clients and their humans alike . The price is also super affordable for this level of expertise! Just a heads-up for new clients: they are CASH ONLY, so make sure you have your cash ready for the service and a well-deserved tip! While I know that can be a minor inconvenience for some, knowing beforehand makes everything a breeze. Plus, it's totally understandable--credit card companies charge such high premiums, and by avoiding those fees, this amazing small business can keep their doors open and stay in the community longer! All in all, Henry came back such a happy dog, clearly relieved to have that heavy coat off! He showed no signs of stress, anxiety, or tension, which made me feel super relieved knowing Henry had been in safe and good hands. I'm officially done waiting a year between visits--we will be going back to see Lolo on a monthly basis now!

Same owners, same groomers, same care. Finding a groomer who is genuinely good with cats is HARD. They are patient, experienced, and calm. My pets come home clean, comfortable, and never stressed. Their top groomer has over 30 years of experience, and it shows. They also offer pickup/drop-off and even insured cage-free boarding, which gives me so much peace of mind. It's a small, local business -- not a big corporation -- and you can feel the difference in how they treat both the animals and the clients. If you're debating between a chain and somewhere that actually knows your pet, this is the place.

He left with hematomas on his ears and shaking his head. I have had these breed for decades and have worked with many groomers. I have never had this negative experience with another groomer. My dog is still terrified when we walk by this groomer's door. Now we have a groomer who my dog is excited to see and absolutely no issues with his ears or otherwise. I also had scheduling issues with the groomer and they were not polite or apologetic.

Nail trims have always been a huge issue for us, especially at the vet. They would leave his nails too long, and over time the quick kept growing out, turning his nails into literal bear claws. It got to the point where I didn't think we'd ever get them back to a normal, healthy length. I originally found Jess for my labradoodle Mabel and just happen to ask her about my Louie's nails . Not only did she trim his nails as short as safely possible, she did it with incredible gentleness and patience. Louie was calm, comfortable, and completely at ease -- which NEVER happens. But what truly sets Jess apart is her knowledge and care. She's actively working on helping the vein recede over time so his nails can return to a normal length instead of those "eagle talons." Obviously no groom will be an exact copy of a photo, but we expected something reasonably close to what we requested. The outcome was so different from our instructions that it felt as though our preferences were ignored entirely. We entrusted them with our dog and are VERY disappointed with the lack of attention.
