Got to give it 5 stars. This is a place if somebody if someone is visiting Richmond, you tell them to go to. I've only been 3 times in 6 months, so I am far from a regular. With that being said, I have gone with large groups so I've gotten a little taste of a variety of things from people not finishing their meals. It's got good versatility, but most importantly it's got an excellent cheeseburger. I did give the title to slack Tide for the best burger, and now, I'm unsure. After my Fat friend Sam whiffed on Slay Burger, I decided to give him another chance. I actually did some chatting with the nice bartender at the Richmond airport about Slayburger. She was also underwhelmed. But back to the cheeseburger at East Coast. This is a difficult cheeseburger to describe to where it's not a burger you can't really put down. It's not one you can split with a wife or girlfriend without a potential divorce or break up on the horizon. It's one that you can get to go, and you feel like you made the right decision. To provide a little context, we are regulars at ECP. Our favorite visit is to sit at the bar and enjoy the hands-down very best dirty martini in Richmond. We like to split small dishes while waiting for the entree - sometimes the edamame, or maybe the fresh bread, or the corn and crab soup. For entree we usually split the crab cakes (again, the best in Richmond). And we do this on a regular basis. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tonight we came in, and despite it being a Monday the bar was full. So we sadly went to a table. It's noisier in the dining area and you don't have the benefit of a bartender/server right in front of you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered our "usuals," but they were slammed and the service was slower than usual. Still, everything was excellent. An assistant manager came to us and apologized for the speed of service and gave us a discount on our bill - even though we had not complained in the slightest. Our most recent stop in was for Richmond Restaurant Week and it was fantastic! We started off with drinks and the calamari & tuna with crispy rice. They were both delicious but the calamari was a standout. For entrees, Shane got the blackened mahi and I ordered the crab pasta. The fish was cooked perfectly & the spice on the pasta was unexpected but amazing. For dessert, we shared the espresso mousse and apple crumble. First time we have been here. We started with a fried oyster small platter. The oysters were on a bed of corn salad. It was delicious! I would actually have that as my entree next time! Entrees Husband had crab pasta, which looked and smelled spicy! He said it was but that it was excellent and that he would order it again. Visited East Coast Provisions with my dad for dinner and overall had a decent experience. I tried one of the lump crab cocktails and a few of the shrimp, and both were excellent. Super fresh, clean flavor, and clearly high-quality seafood. My dad loved the whole tower. He followed that with the short rib ragout and said it was solid, rich, and satisfying. I decided to go with the 16oz ribeye. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out closer to medium well. It was slightly dry on the inside and didn't seem particularly well seasoned. The glaze on top was nice and added flavor, but overall it just felt like a missed opportunity. I finished the steak but didn't touch the sides that came with it. It wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out either. Looking back, I probably just made the mistake of ordering steak at a place that clearly shines with seafood. If I come back, I'll be ordering from the raw bar or one of the mains like the scallops or blackened mahi. My mother and I just finished getting a pedicure on a Friday night and decided to pop in. Initially we were asked did we have reservation which we didn't one minute we were told we could be seated and the next nothing available.. weird.. no biggie we asked if we could sit at the bar instead since we were already here.. freezing as its closest to where you walk in but also hungry and been dying to try this place so just kept our jackets on and ordered. My best meal in Richmond was here! The drinks are to die for, literally the most perfect martini I have ever had (mine was dirty, friend's was espresso, both were unreal). We came here just for oysters but ended up ordering more and more and liking everything that came out even better than the item before. We both ordered the fried cod fish sandwich with fries as our entree. Sadly, the fish was bland, like very bland. Excellent meal for a rainy night in Richmond. We were able to find parking on the street and luckily a table during Easter dinner. We were pleasantly greeted with the wait staff. We initially were seated upstairs however there was a draft and so we switched to downstairs, no issues. We ordered the grilled oysters, veggie bowl and the blackened mahi mahi. Great variety of high quality seafood and accommodating staff will make this place a Richmond favorite. Highly recommend over similar options in the area (such as the Boathouse or Island Shrimp). We've been here several times (and came close to using the upstairs dining room for a small party) and I can safely say we've never had a bad experience. I have to endorse the calamari, which is not revolutionary in terms of a calamari dish but is nonetheless quite tasty. The octopus, more like octopus flakes, is a great but small dish-- very soft and flavorful pieces, truly an appetizer for bigger things to come. The shrimp poboy is not a poboy in the actual Cajun style; it is more like shrimp on toast with lettuce, tomato and sauce. But it is EXCELLENT. Perfect flavors, perfect portion. I was delighted to eat this. And truly everything on the menu is worth a taste-- other notable entries include a seafood pasta, a tuna salad (go for medium rare here), a very colorful and unique shrimp and grits. I've tried a couple of their burgers as well and enjoyed them very much, and I have a friend who swears by the rockfish. Other things to look out for: it's a seafood restaurant in Carytown, so this is not a budget friendly restaurant. That being said, it's not unreasonably priced for what it is. You can see from the street that the owners go the extra mile to take care of the building and provide a nice experience. My wife and I just moved from Austin and were walking in Carytown when we noticed this place. They have a beautiful patio, but like several in the area it is somehow not dig-friendly...I'll never understand how in 2 weeks living here I could come across more than 10 small patios that will not allow dogs so if you're a local, stop pretending this town is dog friendly and color my Texan stars frustrated. It was busy, so it took a bit to get seated and served, but we were not in a hurry--everyone was friendly and pleasant. I missed a pic of our oysters, but they were enjoyable, though rather large and we never were told what locale from which they derived. The shaved octopus was the star of the show (a little less red pepper flake would perfect it), and the corn crab soup was tasty (a touch more crab meat lumped in would elevate this). The grouper tacos were great--finally a taco w a descently prepared tortilla, but they needed a little kick, perhaps w sliced jalapenos or something. The pommes aligot were tasty, but lacked that cheesey pull we expected. We bought a bottle of wine, too, and the wine list is something that could use a face lift. Overall, this is a great place to eat--atmosphere and vibe inside looked as pretty as outside--service was friendly, and the food was good. The happy hour menu looks very attractive. We'll be back to try more things as the menu is quite extensive. 4 stars for now, but tweaks to the wine menu, reconsidering the outdoor no-pet policy, and perhaps us just n finding some hidden gems on the menu will bump this to 5. read more

Had a delicious lunch here. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. The service was great and I loved that they had a hot lobster roll with butter and not mayo. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the actual lobster roll, I did appreciate how much lobster they included. It's expensive but you get your moneys worth! We came for Happy Hour and sat at the patio. It was a very beautiful day to eat outside, but they were a few flies circling around. We ordered the Chesapeake oysters, PEI mussels, and calamari! The Chesapeake oysters were hugeeeeeee (very plump meat) and fresh. The only comment was that some weren't loosen well from the shell. The PEI mussels and calamari had generous portions. We were able to find street parking pretty easily near the restaurant, and immediately got seated outside on the patio.
