Pleasantly surprised by this place. Got pineapple fried rice and Panang curry - 3 star spicy, about $14-15 each. Good flavor and spice overall. The fried rice had an authentic char flavor. I loved the cashews and curry in it as well. The curry consistency was thinner than I'm used to, so the rice didn't soak it up as much as I'd like. Coming from Seattle, I wasn't expecting much in a small town, but I was satisfied with these dishes. Service was quick and the food didn't take too long to come out. The formally Jeda's Thai Kitchen is now Naung Mai's Thai Kitchen and it is DELICIOUS! Looks like they knocked down the walls next door to expand because I remember Jeda's kitchen being oh so tiny. The atmosphere is awesome, you're greeted right away, and everyone has been incredibly friendly and attentive. It looked like they had their own local foods on the menu to choose from which is pretty awesome. I love it when people add food that THEY have/had in their area along with the common and popular foods. For starters we got fresh spring rolls and shrimp in blanket. Both so good! I got the Mama Pad with squid. Mama's secret sauce! It was delicious! My boyfriend got the spicy duck - cooked and flavored to perfection! In town for a work trip and in the mood for lighter fare after a long drive. This place was on the route for us so we decided to stop in. It's a small business and was a little busy but we were still seated right away in one of the corners. I almost wondered if they forgot about us because it took awhile for someone to take our order, I think they actually did if I remember correctly! We ordered a sampler, wings and I got the red curry with shrimp. All of the food was really good, cooked and seasoned well. Our food came out pretty quickly, I think an attempt to correct their error earlier lol All of our dishes were good, and the prices were decent. Though small, it accommodated some families of 4-5, and the noise level was fine. Overall it was a positive experience and would recommend based on the food. read more

I recently moved from Seattle to South Whidbey Island, and as someone used to the highly competitive Asian food scene in the city, my standards are high. Asian restaurants are pretty scarce around here, so I was curious to see what the hype was about with this place. I ordered the beef pho, but honestly, it was just okay. The broth lacked depth and flavor--it tasted more like Thai soup than authentic Vietnamese pho. The noodles also seemed like the kind used for pad Thai, which threw me off. That said, the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. This might be a decent option if you're in the outskirts and craving something hot, but for authentic pho, I'd rather drive a bit farther to get the real thing from a Vietnamese kitchen. They might shine more with their Thai dishes, especially since the staff appeared to be Thai. I'll give them another shot--but next time, I'll stick to the Thai side of the menu. read more

The best Thai food my husband and I have had in awhile. It was hot, fresh and full of flavor! The pad Thai was so good that even the next day as leftovers it was better than the night before! That's how you know it's good when it's sat overnight and is still so delicious. My husband got the panang curry and he said it was fresh and flavorful. We both got Thai tea and they were perfect. I ordered pad thai to go for lunch. The service was speedy over the phone and they said it would only take 10 minutes and they were right. Kudos to the service. I feel like I may have just ordered wrong. Normally when I try a new thai restaurant, I will order pad thai first. That is what I did and I wish I ordered something different. It was a super red/orangey color which seemed a little off. Normally pad thai isn't this bright of a color. I got it 3 stars and it wasn't that spicy either. This is my go to spot when I am in oak harbor! I've only ever gotten takeout and it's always ready about 10 minutes after I call. The fresh rolls are great- they really do amazing with their peanut sauce. It's so good that sometimes I also order swimming Rama noodles so I can have even more peanut sauce! The curry is also super flavorful. They have all the classics on their menu and do them all very well! The inside is small, so I would recommend takeout if you can. Such a lovely spot! read more

On my Thai Iced Tea, I asked for coconut milk and they gave me no milk. I ordered two of them and they just left the Thai ice tea with the concentrate. I felt like I was going to have diabetes when I took a sip. It would have been nice if they said they were out of coconut milk rather me having to throw away my drinks. What am I missing? We stopped here as a place to eat on our way from the ferry in Anacortes to the ferry in Coupeville. So sub par. We had the Pad Thai, Thai fried rice, pot stickers, steamed dumplings, green beans and Thai iced teas. The iced teas were by far the best thing we ordered. The pad Thai was orange, the fried rice was so salty it hurt my tongue and the steamed dumplings were hot on one side and cold on the other. Nothing felt freshly made. Naung Mai Thai Kitchen is a tiny restaurant in Oak Harbor. During the pandemic, they focus on takeout, but my daughter and I dined inside. We were in a rush and the staff quickly took our orders and settled our bill fast. The food itself was just okay. I'm going to start with the service because it was excellent. Our server was very attentive to our requests. The robot that brought the food out was also very polite! lol! My partner had the Pumpkin Curry and it was delicious. He said he would order it again. I was not as lucky... I ordered the Rama with spinach and shrimp. My major complaint was that the peanut sauce was not heated up enough to steam the spinach and the whole dish was just cold. I might have over looked that but the peanut sauce was blah, almost watered down, no flavor at all. So if there is a next time I'll try the Phad Thai. Wish they had served Sake to drink. read more

I'm here visiting so decided to try this place. The food was delicious! The service was excellent and everyone was super sweet. The ambiance is good for a restaurant. We ordered the sampler platter, prawn pad see ew level 5, and an eggplant dish level 3. I can handle spice but level 5 took away from the taste of the pad see ew. This was my first visit to Naung Mai Thai Kitchen. I ordered my favorite Thai dish, Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken. I know, it's not very exotic or original, but its what I like. I ordered it at spice level 5 (the highest they offer, officially). The server informed me that if I thought it wasn't spicy enough I could order 6 or 7 or etcetera. The dish was a generous portion of fried rice, egg, snow peas, bell peppers, pineapple, cashews, carrots, and probably a few more ingredients that I forgot. It was topped with fresh sprigs of Cilantro. I also ordered some Spring Rolls. There are 6 rolls to an order and it is served with sweet and sour sauce with crushed peanuts mixed in the sauce. The Spring Rolls were nice and warm when served and they were not greasy at all. I enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service. I recommend eating here if you're a fan of Thai food. read more

Fantastic Thai food! During my stay in Oak Harbor, I liked it so much I ate there twice. First night I wanted to try my usual favorites. So, it was Chicken Pad Thai and Glazed Chicken Wings. Both were excellent! I particularly liked the wings. Wonderful spice and flavor on a crispy wing. That meal was great, but there was something else on the menu that I wanted to try, so on the second visit, I got the Spicy Crispy Chicken dinner with sticky rice. Even better! I'm in love with Naung Mai Thai!! Dining in or take out, we've had a great experience with both. Their Tom Kha is the best I've had in a long time, like a warm comforting hug on a cold day. I love that they include fresh ginger in their cashew chicken. Their veggies are crisp and fresh, and they don't skimp on protein or portion sizes. I've been trying crab rangoons at all different places on the island and theirs are my favorites! The service for dine in was attentive and so nice. For takeout they're fast and on time and ordering is super easy and customizable. We've loved everything we've tried here so far and can't wait to try more! This is an update to my previous review....because this time we tried out their online ordering with FREE delivery!!! What! When I went online I wasn't expecting too much, but I was blown away with how clear and easy the online ordering and payment process was. Everything from the three choices of meats to the range from 0-5 stars spice was easy to customize. Then, when I reached the end and found out that delivery was at no charge and my food would be here in 35-40 minutes...on this windy, cold, rainy day I was honestly ecstatic to not have to leave the house. I left a nice tip on the bill, but next time I will leave some cash out for just the driver. Of course I can't forget the food, which was why we were coming back to Nuang Mai in the first place! This dinner we really got a much larger variety. Of course Basil Fried rice, with chicken and 3* spice, se ew, which had the most luscious noodles, perfectly cooked beef or chicken (we got an order of each!) And very fresh veggies. Lastly Kee mao which was delicious with that kick of fresh basil! The kids favorite was se ew. Parents fave was the spicy basil Fried rice. read more

This is our go-to joint: out of the four or so Thai restaurants, I think their food is the best and also the most consistent. Today was me and my husband's first time back since the recent remodel. There's so much more space and it's decorated very nicely. The service was excellent, staff checked on us regularly, making sure everything was good. They also have a little robot to help servers with plates, which our daughter (and honestly my husband and I) thought was pretty cool especially for a restaurant on whidbey island. We ordered fresh rolls with prawns and spring rolls (for our little one) and took the waitresses suggestion on the fried chicken wings. The fresh rolls were so good. Prawns were fresh, cooked perfectly and the peanut butter sauce the fresh rolls come with was good. Our daughter loved the spring rolls, I had a bite of one and they were good. Tasted fresh, nice and crispy, not oily and it's came with a yummy sweet and sour sauce that tasted like it was made in house. The fried chicken wings were also delicious. Had good texture and had a nice sweet, tangy sauce. I'm not usually one to like sweet stuff on my wings, but these were gooood. Now on to the main courses... I ordered the beef pho and my husband ordered the beef fried rice. The pho had good authentic pho flavor. Beef was tender and broth was nice. They served the pho with bean sprouts, lime and Thai basil which is a must. My husband enjoyed his beef fried rice, said it was really good. We really enjoyed the food and our overall experience here. Also, we thought the price was great, around $62 for 3 appetizers and two main courses, a Thai iced tea (also sooo good) and Pepsi. The only thing that I would say that may need a little improvement is the spice level accuracy. They have a 0-5 scale and I ordered 3 and my husband ordered a 4. We can handle our spice and it was very mild. Not a big deal though, I asked for sriracha and it did the trick. We will definitely return. read more
