Chicken See Ew & Chicken Thai Terriyaki

We stopped in after a whale watching tour and it was so great. Not only was the food amazing, the staff were so friendly. The service was so speedy as well. Not to mention the actual restaurant itself was so cute. I wish this was somewhere I could go more often!! We got an appetizer and a dessert because we were hungry and I'm so glad we did.

Made a web order for pickup; it was predicted to be ready at 6:10, but it was about 10 minutes later. It was a busy Saturday night, so not unreasonable, and the woman at the counter was super nice. One thing to note is that unlike most Thai restaurants I've been to, menu prices are for "no meat". Which means, if you want chicken, pork, tofu, or veggies, it's an extra $1, or $3 for beef, prawns, or squid, etc. I had a cup of Tom Kha soup, spice level 10, with veggies. It was very spicy, as promised, but I found the soup base lacking flavor. My husband had a Thai Garden with tofu, and a sub of brown for white rice (a reasonable $1 extra). It had an excellent assortment of nine different veggies. He said the brown sauce had some sweetness and saltiness, but neither were overpowering. (Note that the default for tofu is pan fried if you don't specify anything different.) In another visit, I placed a lunch order to go at the counter. It took about 20-25 minutes to get our food. I had (Pad) See Ew. For my "meat" I chose extra veggies, but asked only for more broccoli and carrots. The receipt clearly shows that, as well as my request to use (Pad) Kee Mao sauce instead of the sweeter See Ew sauce. But I have to say, the sauce was still very sweet, and the amount of broccoli and carrots were pretty sparse, so it's almost as if they didn't pay attention to the order. But it's clearly written out, so it could be that it normally comes with even less veggies, and an even sweeter sauce. The noodles were very good; thick, chewy, and not stuck together as sometimes happens. The broccoli was perfectly cooked. My husband ordered the Garlic dish, this time requesting soft tofu, and brown rice. They have an excellent brown rice, which includes not just brown rice, but a blend of two other rices (wild & sticky?). He felt the quantity was a bit on the light side, but it was tasty and well cooked. He regretted getting the tofu soft, as it was added afterwards, so didn't have any flavor absorbed. Spiciness levels are 0-10, PLUS 'Super Super Spicy'. I found level 7 to be not as hot as expected, my husband felt similarly about his level 5. But as mentioned above, level 10 was indeed very spicy. Overall, service was friendly, though there was a bit of a wait both times. The food was decent. Sometimes quite good, sometimes a bit disappointing.

This review is delayed from when I actually visited (March '24) but my group and I had a wonderful time! I wish I wrote it when it was fresh on my mind, but alas here we are. My group and I ordered several entrees and appetizers to share amongst the 4 of us so that we could try lots of things, and ever since then, I recommend doing that any time you are eager to explore a menu! We tried 7 different things and yet it cost us each like $20, which is pretty amazing considering all that we ate. One of my favorites was the curry puff. The crust was the satisfying buttery-flaky kind. So good! Next time I find myself in Anacortes, I will definitely be back!! Don't miss out!

We got some small bites and everything was so good. The shrimp in the blanket is the best. Crispy and tasty. The sauce for the fish cake is very unique, we liked that it has veggies.

Okay, so the Tom Yum soup is misleading because they have a picture of serving it in a metal ring fire warmer which presentation wise looks super cool. There's even a picture of it on their menu. But when I asked about this, they said it just comes in a regular bowl. So, kind of misleading. I would give it 5 stars for the price and for the green curry. However, the three star is for the pad thai that tastes like ketchup (I don't think they actually use real tamarind sauce? It's missing the sweet and sour tang and that deep flavor of pad thai that I was so looking forward to). I really had high hopes for the restaurant because of its price point. However presentation wise, it was probably a 4.5. Not bad. I'd say update the menu so it's not misleading and change your pad thai sauce to be real pad thai... then I'll change this to a 5. Would love to try the mango curry and fried ice cream still one day.

Found in lunch takeout. Small sharp metal piece

I found a small, sharp piece of metal in our lunch combo takeout - chicken rama. I'm so glad i didn't swallow it. The owner has not shown any interest or offered to explain or compensate. They really need to check the equipment they are using. This can't be the only piece as it's clearly broken off from something longer.

A-Mazing!!! We're in town for a few days from Arkansas and we wanted a nice Thai place. This place did not disappoint! We ordered the wide noodle ramen in peanut sauce with veggies. It was delicious. The peanut sauce is amazing. We also ordered Mama's Ramen, it was fabulous. The appetizers we ordered we green beans in garlic sauce, it was robust in garlic flavor. And the Puffs, so good! And for dessert the waiter recommended the coconut ice cream, which is not on the menu. It was Devine! This place is a must. Clean, cozy, relaxing, and nice fast service.

We love us our Thai food. Problem is there aren't many good Thai places in our area. We were planning on visiting Anacortes anyway and our son said he'd pass this restaurant when commuting to work. The Yelp reviews were great and so we made this our destination. Upon entering the smallish restaurant, what strikes you about the interior is it's beautiful, tasteful simplicity. It's small but the tables are arranged in a circular pattern next to the windows. We chose to sit at a table in the center of the room. There was a delightfully subtle scent I first encountered during my college days when taking yoga and mediation classes. It was the late '70s and that scent was everwhere. So points already for immediately hooking me with nostalgic sense memories. There was also beautiful piano music playing on the sound system. So even before we were given our menus a nice, comforting mood had already been set. Josh was our waiter and he quickly brought out our menus. Our son's favorite Thai dish is Pad See Ew with beef (called See Ew on the menu here). It's also my wife's favorite dish but she prefers it with pork. Me, I'm a Garlic Delight with beef man but I do love my crispy duck on special occasions. This was one of them. All the food came to the table quickly. The appetizers and Thai Iced Teas were timed so as to be served at a decent interval before the rest of the dishes came out. So here's the rundown on the dishes and their LARGE portions. I don't use numbers because I'm a words guy! Anyway... Tom Yum Soup--level 4 heat. This is the Thai version of the Chinese Hot & Sour Soup. I didn't see vinegar on the ingredients list, just lemongrass and lime leaves, both of which wouldn't really impart that sour edge I love so much with this type of soup. You can read the menu for the rest of what was in there. I didn't taste any sour here at all. But that was fine because the broth enhanced by the heat was delightful. I chose squid as the protein for the soup and there were two nice size pieces scored nicely with a small, sharp knife. My wife and son's shared belief is that perhaps the spice level covered up the sour flavor. I don't think so. Even without the sour flavor component it was a stand-out soup. Giew Grob--no heat. Thai version of Crab Rangoon. Like every crab rangoon I've ever had there was no taste of crab in there but it was still crisp and delicious--and hot as an temperature hot not spicy hot.It was served with a sweet & sour dipping sauce. Spring Rolls--no heat. Another hot dish tempwise but crisp and delicious appetizer. Served with a uniquely different peanut dipping sauce made with chopped peanuts. Spicy Crispy Duck--level 4 heat. The duck was absolutely delicious,. well cooked, tender and flavorful. It wasn't cooked on the rare side as it would be in a fine-dining restaurant, but this was a great example of Thai-style cookingt. BUT I have to deduct a point because the skin was not crispy. I was looking forward to crispy rendered skin, but the skin was soft. To me, if you're going to call a dish crispy then that's exactly what it should be. As for spicy, well, my ordering level 4 heat took care of that. Oh, the dish had an amazing, aromatic sauce. I made sure I poured all that I could from the platter into the takeout container. See Ew with Beef and with Pork (two separate orders). Our son ordered his beef see ew dish at level 4 heat; my wife ordered her pork version with no heat. They loved their dishes. The beef was sliced while the pork meat was more chopped. Both were very happy with their dishes. I sampled both and and also enjoyed them but I've never been a fan of Thai noodle dishes overall. Fried Rice--level 1 heat. Perfectly cooked rice with flavors that stood on their own without the addition of meat, poultry or seafood. Jasmine Rice. Perfectly cooked large scoop of the aromatic stuff. Thai Iced Tea. Made just the way my wife and I like it. We chose the 8 oz glass because a 16 oz glass is A LOT of Thai Iced Tea no matter how good it is. Midway during our meal, Jack took over for Josh. Both servers were equally warm and friendly and wholly professional. Jack was the one who thanked us as we were leaving but Josh also popped in there. Overall a wonderful dining experience with well-made, delicious Thai food at reasonable prices. For us, Naung Mai Thai Kitchen will still be destination dining for us.

Red curry is a simple dish and that nice texture of coconut milk adds a rich comfort to a simple a delicious dish. When the coconut milk separates and achieves that watery consistency, it loses everything. The good news is that it's easy to detect, because a flavorless red curry with a texture barely up to the consistency of water, it's absolutely disgusting. Yes, I called and let the business know. Yes, they offered to remake it. No, I didn't accept, that's not good enough. Takeout means the need to monitor the food at the moment it goes out. It's impossible to dish up a watery red curry and not know. Not doing so simply means someone didn't care. I also don't care now. I don't care to support a business that doesn't support me. I'm not going to drive back to the store to fix two mistakes, one not cooking the dish right and two, going ahead and dishing it up so my dinner is ruined. We walked into the restaurant. Something didn't seem quite right"clean". But, ok. Let's not judge. So we took a seat at a table . The waiter brought each of us a bottled water. Bottled. As in Cosco brand Kirkland water bottles. We looked at the menu. Weren't too sure about the the place, and thought, "we can't go wrong with curry". Wow, were we wrong. We ordered the Green curry with chicken and the Masaman curry with tofu. It can with white rice. The first problem: pretty sure the curries were made with water and not coconut milk. Neither had ANY flavor . Zip, zillch, zero. Honestly, the flavor was kinda gross. The texture was wrong, like pouring green and red water over rice. At least the chicken was cooked through. Even the tofu wasn't good. That's difficult to do, bad tasting tofu. The steamed rice was fine. The food tasted so bad, that we paid for the meal and left without taking more than a couple of bites. It's pretty obvious that the owners are praying they only get tourists during b tulip season, and said tourists never come back to la Conner And have never eaten Thai food in their life.
