I've never really had a bad meal here. Well, sometimes the onion rings fall apart. Other than that, it's a good diner--not a great one, but perfectly good for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We stopped in for lunch as we have not been there in a while we ordered two grilled cheese with tomatoes there were so many tomatoes on the sandwich that it's soaked through the bread it was a mess we told the server. And she really didn't care The fries tasted like they were made an old oil we had brought that order home and had to throw them out. TERRIBLE, JUST TERRIBLE. service was poor. food tasted like feet. my mom and I stopped by this diner since all the other shops within the neighborhood were ice cream parlors or candy stores. I ordered the grilled chicken with chedder whole-wheat wrap with a fruit bowl on the side while my mom had their pathetic attempt at a greek salad. my chicken wasn't even fully cooked and the cheese didn't even taste like cheese. the cheese to chicken ratio was 10:2 and half the fruit served in the bowl was not even fresh, as if it had been sitting out on the counter for days. The greek salad consisted of romaine lettuce, poorly diced tomatoes and cucumbers--that shouldn't even be considered "greek." read more

The food was awful. They messed up my order 3 times. They overcook everything.

Having grown up in the town of Madison, I am very familiar with this particular diner. Years later, passing through one day, I decided to stop in and have lunch. The waitress had a little attitude after I only wanted water to drink. Sometimes people do not drink soda or are always tired of drinking Diet Coke. They should offer an alternative diet soda for example, Sprite Zero or a Diet Ginger Ale. I ended up ordering the grilled cheese sandwich for $5.95, which came with either coleslaw or potato salad. I got the potato salad. The sandwich was just a basic grilled cheese sandwich and the potato salad was nothing special; it didn't even come with a pickle-how cheap! I asked the waitress if she had any cherry cheesecake to which she just shook her head no. I am guessing that the owners must've changed because that was a staple in this diner years ago. Unfortunately I don't think I will be back anymore to this diner. read more

Basically everything is good, but I would mostly stick to the breakfast foods, as I would at any diner. The chicken wings are great though. So are the milkshakes. When I was a little girl and my parents moved to Chatham in June of 1955, the only place open on Sunday was Nautilus Diner. Also after church services in the 80's and 90's my choir director and about 6 of us from the choir would eat here. This venue has survived the test of time with good food. I am enjoying the new appetizer pork wings and the soup of the day which is split pea. Both are very good. If you are in the town of Madison you should try them. read more

Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. My husband I were seated today at about 10:30AM. Not too crowded for Sunday brunch. I thought the place looked pretty cute. I was a little excited for the breakfast specials. Couldn't wait to order. About seven minutes later (pretty long for any place - especially a diner), waitress comes over - sort of mumbles about being sorry she took so long and can't find any forks. No prob. We have lots of patience for being slammed (as I waited tables for ten years - I understand). She leaves. Five minutes later she comes back and says "what do you want." Keep in mind we've been waiting for over ten min now. We give our order she doesn't say thx or anything - just walks away. We wait ANOTHER five minutes - still no coffee or anything (just water that the bus-boy brought). She ambles by nonchalantly - I say kindly "excuse me, could we please have our coffee?" she doesn't stop to look, doesn't address me, just goes, "yup." and ambles by. not even rushing or anything. I said to my husband, "let's go." he agreed. we walked right on out. We have never done that before but it definitely deserved it. We ordered food to go. I had a cheese quesadilla. The worst quesadilla I've ever had. Cheese wasn't melted, had an after taste. Threw it in garbage. Then I also ordered chicken breast with cheese and mushrooms on a sandwich. It was a thick piece of meat, the bread was flattened and it was inedible. I threw that away. Went for breakfast this morning. Not fond of the breakfast menu at all. All the breakfast choices come with juice and coffee or tea. I didn't want any of these drinks and I asked if I could have an ice tea and have the price of meal adjusted. The waiter told me I could but the adjustment would be nickel. A nickel???? Really??? I luv good diners but this isnt one of them. I have eaten here more than once unfortunately. For breakfast they have the standard fare,if not limited. Most of the food just seems so bland to me. I mean they could even jazz up their hash brown potatoes alittle, not just dump potatoes on a plate, no crust no,no peppers,onions etc. just no flavor at all. We met a great friend here on Sunday at noon. It's our 3rd or 4th visit and I've got give them 4 stars as the quintessential NJ diner. Great diner food and more. We had a veggie burger, whole wheat pancakes and I had decadent corn beef hash. All good and all BIG portions. So Brunch for 3 for under $40 bucks! Can't go wrong. Service better than most diners, decor is tired but clean and the washrooms were spotless. So... Went here for dinner and ordered the Mexican burger and the Greek fajita. The burger was nothing special, better off going to Smashburger and the chili they gave was pretty bad too. Typical diner experience with decent food, good service, and a friendly environment. I stopped in during lunch hour with a co-worker and we each had breakfast. I had the mushroom omelette and my co-worker created her own omelette which was a good idea. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were generous. The food came out fast. Coffee was tasty and hot. Service was good. Plenty of parking in the rear of the establishment. Like I said earlier, a very typical experience. I have visit this diner during the recent snow storm. The reason I came back with the wonderful experience I had but was disappointed with the waitress at my recent experience . She sat my friend and myself. Didn't seem all very friendly and in a rush get our orders. We order our food which food was great as always to our finding we had no utensils. I tried to ask for utensils and she look at me but was to interest hanging out with waiter there. I had to ask cashier for help since our table was next to cashier. I am guessing she got spoken to then we kept getting bug us while we ate if we need anything? The prices are reasonable. That is my review. We, along with others, waited 30 minutes until they opened the front door at 6:30. We did not receive anything close to an apology. When paying at the cash register, I told the man that I was surprised we did not receive an apology for the diner opening up 30 minutes late. His response: "Are you joking??"
