However today and for the second time I've been asked to tip at the cash register ( even though I did tip the nail lady directly) . No customer should ever be ask to tip. I have been coming to this salon off and on for over 10 years and I can no longer recommend this place to anyone. The salon is under new ownership, but I had a gift card that was given to me prior to the new ownership. I came here on August 1st for a pedicure as I had the gift card and I was in need of a pedicure. I got the pedicure which was disappointing to say the least and it was very awkward just sitting in the chair, the workers and the owner were on the colder side for someone who they had not seen before and who would be a prospective new client, waiting for someone to say oh your good, I had to ask if i was done and was ignored a couple of attempts. The price was ok for the service if the pedicure had been enjoyable with a good massage (there was barely a massage). I go to the register to give my gift card, and she said sorry ownership changed and we no longer accept these gift cards. There was no signage change, no disclaimer saying no gift cards were accepted. Nothing like that. She told me the cost, I got my card out and then was asked for are you tipping me in cash or on the card? In my opinion, tipping is optional and should not be asked for, it puts me in an awkward position because to me a tip is a reflection of the service. I did tip in cash, as I always do at the salon I frequent, which I understand she would not know first hand, but to wait until I ask for the tip to be added would be great. My Mother-in-law and her group of friends have frequented this nail salon for years and been loyal customers even with the new ownership will not be coming back. My mother-in-law, who gave me the gift certificate was pissed and confronted the new owner as she took over a salon and to say that the old owners wont reimburse her is just bad business practices. Sometimes in business, you take a loss to gain or keep a new client. Unfortunate choices were made. Cannot recommend. read more

Love coming here, Clean and professional. Anh the owner is on top of things and is transparent with pricing. My favorite technician is Kevin, hes super gentle which is big for me. THE BEST understated neighborhood gem. I've tried fancy little niche salons, driven all the way out to Walnut Creek, and I just keep landing back at Naveana. The techs are all warm, accommodating, and detail oriented. Done everything from pedicures (the massages are longer than average) to waxing (cheap and thorough). Amy is the best and has regularly been absolutely killing it with my gelx and builder gel sets. My most recent one was complex and inspired by a photo I brought in and she totally captured what I wanted 100% free style by hand. 10/10 recommend! Go! read more

Yes... there's been a change in ownership. Yes, the salon is starting to look different. And yes... there are new technicians -- all of whom are genuinely courteous to customers. Nevertheless, the service we receive is well above par the many other salons in the area, and in my opinion, the atmosphere is much better under this new ownership. It feels less rigid and overly supervised -- no more timers or alarms going off in front of clients. The staff simply focuses on providing the best manicure or pedicure possible and meeting the needs of the customer. Amy and the staff are doing a great job. read more

This is my go-to place for a mani-pedi. When I moved to Berkeley some years ago, I tried several salons on Solano to find the "right" one - and this is it. I have been coming here for close to 8 years now, both under the old management and now the new one. The service is excellent and the place is clean, bright and well-maintained, with updated massage chairs and manicure tables. I really have no complaints and have only good things to say. read more

Stopped by on a Friday afternoon just to fix my nails before a party, but ended up staying longer because they were so careful with the details. The place isn't big, but it's spotless and doesn't have that strong acetone smell. The tech was gentle and double-checked the shade I wanted, then added a bit of shimmer that made my hands pop under the lights. They even finished with a nourishing oil, and my nails looked like new. So sad.. change of ownership!I have been coming to Naveana since they opened over 10 years ago. I continued to get my nails done here because I thought everything will be fine.. Unfortunately, the new owner is absolutely unprofessional and rude! At first I thought, definitely give her chance she's new to it all..(she's actually one of the nail techs who bought the business) Its supposed to be a relaxing environment. Ha! She gives me anxiety just seeing her move so quickly, rushing you to make your nail choices and angry if you ask questions. Talking loudly to other technicians if she doesn't like what you say. This review is for my many positive mani, pedis & gel nails experiences! Clean, sanitary nail salon. Foot tubs are lined with individual plastic liners and everyone gets their own set of sterilized tools. Admittedly, that's my #1 at any nail salon I visit. My #2 is the quality of the work which the staff at Naveana gives. My nails always look beautiful and cuticles cleaned up when I leave. My #3 customer service- One time my mother messed up her the polish on a few of her toes just minutes after leaving the salon. TLDR: Don't waste your time here. I don't understand how this nail salon has so many good reviews. Went in on a Sunday afternoon for a gel pedi as I was around Solano Ave. I moved to the area and was looking for a new go-to Nail salon. When I got there, I was given a little chart to pick my color, some other lady took the chart right away as soon as I let go of it and when it was my turn to sit down, they just asked me what number was the color I chose as if I knew that I had to remember the number. I had a bad feeling already that this is not a good place to be. They didn't assist me to sit down, nor with my jacket or things. Water to soak my feet was cold, no assistance with the massage chair. the girl who did my nails was rushing to get my nails done. She scrubbed my feet very very gently and after rinsing, left my lower legs wet- didn't dry it and just went straight to get polish on. I asked if she can dry it because it was cold, she just grabbed some tissue and patted it quickly. For my color - she did two coats of gel polish without any UV light. See the photos on how uneven the polish are. The "massage" was a joke. No effort at all, it was like as if she was just putting oil on my skin, no pressure. I cannot think about anything good with my experience with this nail spa. I paid 45 for gel pedi plus 5 tip. On their website, they describe their pedicure as: "Pamper yourself with a basic manicure or pedicure that includes nail trim, shape, cuticle refinement, and smoothing rough skin. Next, take pleasure in a mini hand or foot massage, followed by a warm towel wrap. Your nails will then be treated to a high gloss buff or a precise polish application for a finished presentation." The one on the front & the lady who did my nail seemed friendly when they talk to you thus the two stars, but other than that anything on the website is all nonsense. See the photo attached for the "precise polish application" claim. Maybe tired and overworked? But I don't think the service I got deserved the price I paid. Please don't waste your money here. this was one of my go to nail salon when I was living in Berkeley. I went back after moving away years later and they were terrible! the owner and her staff were not welcoming, but whatever not that end of the world. the work was mediocre at best, and was over charged for my service. I have a bad habit of not looking at my service receipt, which is completely my fault! The owner, who rings people up, gave me my receipt and folded it so I wouldn't see what I paid for, I didn't realize until the next day. don't go here! I am assuming they built whatever clientele list and now can give 2 shts about service. the vibe in there is so negative and their work is not great. read more

This used to be my go to nail salon when I was in high school. They do good. acrylics and pedicures. The one thing about it is that the lady that runs it is very mean. One time I was a few minutes late (not even 10 mins) and she told me to call next time to let her know. I apologized and she kept a stern face. The last time I went in same lady was very stingy. I told her I had a gift card. I left it at home on accident and had my boyfriend send me a photo. She said that she couldn't accept it because she thought I would come back and try to use it again. I told her I wouldn't be returning because of the way she ran her salon. She made me sign and date her appointment book as proof. Needless to say, the work they do doesn't outweigh the customer service. There are so many different ways she could've gone about both of those situations. She lost a loyal customer. read more

Reliably good service. I have had pedicures here for many years. Ambiance is peaceful and relaxing.

I have been here twice . The first time, it was great. The second time, my gel nails peeled within two days. I would give it a 3.5.

The quality here feels very unpredictable. I've had some great manicures and pedicures here, and some terrible ones. I had made an appointment here a while back to get my nails done before my wedding, and was fairly disappointed they just told me they couldn't do what I asked for (pink ombré nails) which seemed like something that should be doable, and weren't very interested in talking it through with me. They have good COVID precautions for the most part, but do get uncomfortably crowded, in my opinion. I'm going to keep looking to hopefully find a salon that feels more helpful and consistent. read more

My friends and I went to a scheduled appointment. Over the phone they said they would give us hard gel, when we arrived they said that we never confirmed that we wanted it & wouldn't give it to us. During my appointment the woman painting my nails was in her phone texting, took a call, and left halfway through for a couple minutes. My appt took 10 mins longer than my friends & I was the first to start. She completely flooded my nails, made them very bumpy & didn't add alcohol after the lotion so they look matte.
