It was the first time playing this course. I didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the course. The greens were in great shape. The fairways were average. The layout is long(ish), flat, tree-lined and a good amount of water to make it interesting, all the while playing generally straightforward. Green fees are reasonable. Oh, the 19th hole is nice as well. Makes for a great golf day. I'd like to go back soon. read more

Went there for 1st yesterday and enjoyed the course. The worst part was the pace of play. The walkers backed the pace up so bad that even after 1 pm Tee Time, we could only play 14 holes. A lot of money to spend for partial play. The need to have a Range Marshall monitor pace of play. read more

I've always been a fan of Navy golf course but I play there on August 27 and paid $73. This course use to be well-maintained, however I have never seen this course in such bad shape as I did on August 27. There were at least 4-6 greens that had gigantic potholes and divots on the entire area surface of the greens that it was unputtable. Thid should've been revealed when I made the reservation I was so upset. I'm never going back. read more

Greens are almost unplayable. Before I made reservations I asked about the shape of the course and was told due to the drought the course was dry with some brown spots. I thought no big deal and totally understandable given its summer time and we live in a desert. The greens were horrible and lack of water had nothing to do with it. They have some kind of disease. Dead patches like scabs are all over every green. Most of the lakes are completely dry and ugly. They should at least provide some kind of discount to compensate. My friends and I all agreed we won't be coming back until the course is back to normal. We will also be warning all our golf buddies too. read more

Played today and had a terrible experience.. we had just gotten off of the 5th green (group behind us had just teed off) and the Marshall comes by and tells us "I'm not saying you're slow but there's a hole open in front of you" so I understandably said ok we'll pick it up I guess. I play often and understand that pace can back up groups behind. After that no one was on the tee box by the time we got off of any green after that. Even though that was the case, the Marshall decides to come back and talk to us again. I give him a thumbs up thinking he's gonna tell us thank you or something for picking up pace (which we weren't slow to begin with). Now the annoying part starts... he tells us that there's still a hole open in front and I tell him ok and show him that the group behind us barely walking onto the tee box we just left. And he then says "we'll a group 4 or 5 tees times behind called again and he's a Major and likes to play in 3 hrs and 45 mins." I told him that's unrealistic and argue with him because we were definitely not slow by any means. He then said "the scorecard says that you need to finish before 4 hours and if your not at pace I can push you along to skip a hole. " I looked at the card afterwards and the card even says that the pace needed is 4 hrs 20 mins. Wtf, BS. Just because this Major Wants to start at 7-73:0 am on Sunday wants to finish in 3hrs 45 and every tee time before him has to get out of his way. That's not right by any means. Very dissatisfied with this course and the guys that call up on people who are enjoying themselves. I would advise people to avoid this place if they're going to support these actions. We ended in 4 hours (very quick round) and was annoyed by this very much. The whole group was disappointed. read more

Worst conditioned golf course I have ever played. Please do not waste your money (charged full rate) for greens that are pock marked to an extent that they are unputtable. The rest of the course was not much better. Horrible tee boxes and many, many bare spots in the fairways. The only decent part of the course was the bunkers. If I could give zero stars, I would. The saddest part is that this was once one of my favorite courses. Too bad it has been brought to this state. read more

The greens on this course is worse than my fricken lawn. It is filled with sand and the greens are dead due to lack of water. Do you selves a favor and go somewhere else. Played Destroyer for the first time this weekend ... and it certainly won't be the last. It's an absolutely beautifully maintained course - FAR better than anything else I've played in the same price range in Southern California and better than many I've played that cost twice as much. As someone who grew up playing the immaculate courses in and around Pinehurst, NC; I won't deny for a moment I'm a bit of snob when it comes to conditions. Nice, lush fairways, some thick (not CRAZY thick but enough to punish a missed fairway) rough and some really, really great greens. I fortunately only found one bunker but it played as a bunker should. Rough and fringes are well kept and allow a variety of recovery shots. I even got to play a good old fashioned "Phil Flop" on one hole where a bit of a wild approach left me in some tall rough with a baby pine tree between me and the pin. (And I did get it up and down, thank you very much) The layout is challenging and there're some long par 4s and 5s from the tips - but it's "fun" challenging. Good shots are rewarded and you can get away with some misses ... but a bad miss will definitely wind up in trouble with trees or in any of the many water hazards. I've heard it can get crowded and slow so I guess we got very lucky as our threesome finished up in right at 4 hours and we only really faced a wait at the long par 3 17th. The staff were all super friendly, there's a nicely stocked pro shop and the food at the bar was great (and incredibly reasonably priced). Definitely near the top of my list of favorite courses in Southern California and I can't wait to get back again soon. read more

Played here on March 19th. Ate lunch in the restaurant. Food was very good but customer service was lacking. The one star review is for two reasons. The first is that all of the golf ball cleaners had what appeared to be liquid mud in them. How hard is it to fill with water, soap and a little bleach. Second reason is for the absolutely disgusting restroom that I believe is on the sixth hole. The stench was unbearable. The toilet was covered in about a gallon of feces, piss covered the whole floor. I've been in third world countries and this is by far the worst I've ever seen. Took all my strength to not puke. Shocked to see, especially being a military course. read more

The Navy golf course was once solidly in a small circle of courses in the local area that could be counted on for their course condition and the overall challenge of a parkland golf course. Alas, this once enjoyable course, once the training ground for Tiger Eldrick Woods, is limping to its disappointing and sad end. The course conditions are unplayable and leave the course squarely in the same category as other weed collecting and beginners layout favored by players willing to pay $25 for a few hours of exercise. Alas, another one bites the dust. However, all is not lost. The unpopul pro shop crew can now look forward to applying at Starbucks (where I won't visit). read more

This review is just for the cruiser course as I made a tee off time at 6:00 AM and the pro shop didn't open for me to pay until about 6:30. I had to cut my game short and then I was the first tee time for the day and there were three groups that had lined up and were going before me which was a little chaotic and I had to start on the 2nd hole just so I wasn't late to work. I paid full price to not even play a whole 9 holes. Kind of a bummer and I will probably just stick to the destroyer Course past 6:30 from now on. If you want to do a tee time before 6:30/40 be prepared to wait in your car with the heater on until the pro shop opens. read more

Legend has it that a 2 yr old Tiger Woods shot a 48 on the back 9 of this challenging Orange County course. This course is credited as being the stomping grounds of pre-teen Tiger, and "proudly?" displays his picture in the clubhouse. I've played this course for many years as part of our company's annual golf tournament. Good thing it's a scramble format, because this course is long and challenging. Water holes are sprinkled on some of the holes. One of the water holes has a miniatured scaled version of a Battleship - kinda cheesy, but maybe you can ricochet off the bow and get on the green. Decent is the word that best describes this place. Got here to play the Destroyer Course at our tee time of 12:30. Upon arriving I was impressed with the club house area. It was really nice. The Pro Shop workers were very friendly and helpful as well. We ended up splitting a bucket of balls at the Range just before our T-Time. The driving range was small and the lawn out in the range area was dead. Mats and the screens between each section was nice though. Started our round and paired up with a single golfer on his way out. Turns out he was around our skill set and was a really nice guy. Always a good day when you can make a new friend. The golf carts here are nice for the price and had GPS in them. The course is decent. Some good challenges, but I dont think its up kept that well. Driving the gold cart on anything other than the cart path felt like I was doing the Baja 1000! it was harsh. Most of the grass in the Tee boxes was dead. The greens were also a little bumpy. I had a putt and I swear it hit several different dips and changed directions more than once! The only thing that did bother me was the Marshall. He was kind of a douche. First time he came to complain about us was getting the golf cart too close to the greens. He said it has to be 30 feet away at least. And where we were at was probably 20 feet away. It wasnt that he told us that it was wrong, but the way it was almost a grumpy old many style lecture. Then again he complained about not fixing a divot. How are you supposed to fix a divot in dead yellow grass and dirt. PRetty sure I hit dirt not grass with my shot. Overall, its okay. I dont think Ill be rushing back. But, if I see another Hot Deal on Golfnow I would probably go for it. read more

Navy GC is one my favorite golf courses I've played so far. The fact that it's located about 10 minutes from my house certainly helps. 1. The course is challenging with some narrow fairways, water, lakes, and streams. If your game is off, or if you stop paying attention, then you will be hating life. At the same time, some of the holes are fairly open, and you can slice right/hook left at will, while still hitting par. 2. Greens are always fast and in great condition. For a public course, they sure know how to maintain their greens. Greens themselves are very challenging, and they are often multi-tiered, meaning if you hit your approach shot on the wrong tier you may be looking at 3+ putts. 3. There are good deals in the afternoons 4. Carts come with accurate GPS The one bad part? Pace of play is typically very slow. 5+ hours on a weekday isn't unheard of. Not that I'm blaming them, but this course especially seems to attract the older crowd in the afternoons. It also probably doesn't help that some of them choose to walk this 6800 yard course... A 3pm super-twilight tee time will see you finishing well after 8pm, and you'll be lucky to finish. read more

Says it is the new charges but when I looked online for the rates he charged me earlier, they were the still the same.... NOT a YOUTH FRIENDLY GOLF COURSE - esp if playing the Destroyer. Not supportive of Youth Players - cart rates for parents only wattching are very high. People do not realise that our kids will be the future players of these course. read more

For the price - with cart at $40 in February not bad. Course in reasonable shape. Greens fast and well taken care of. Recent rains cause some muck - but can be expected and marked. The pace of play is not ok. 5+ hours and no marshal in sight. We were hit into 3 times. As we waited for the groups in front of us. That being said we were not pressed to be anywhere - but come on. Take this with a grain of salt. We play tons of golf and fun to play courses such as this. We may return as we are in SoCal often to visit our son - but we will get earlier tee time so as not wipe out the entire afternoon. read more

Pace was super slow (on a Thursday at 1:00 pm tee time), waited on every shot. Course difficulty is pretty easy. Course length was short also. I only used my driver off the tee about 5 times. Course condition is average and the price is tolerable for a round of golf these days ($38 including cart, if i remember correctly). I would play here again if I were to play with friends who are just getting into golf, but this is certainly not a challenge for anyone who is not a beginner. read more

A fun, but tough course. Greens are well-kept. Prices are reasonable for both civilian and military. If you're new to the game, you might want to stick to the Cruiser course, as it's a little more forgiving. E.g. On the destroyer, most holes are adjacent to each other, guaranteeing a number of, "Fores!" I've played here a couple of times and it seems typical for the marshall to allow parties of 5, which dramatically slow down the pace. Even when parties are "normal" sizes, the pace approaches the speed of molasses. Jokes aside, if you're okay with a 4.5 to 5-hour pace for 18, then you'll probably enjoy this course. Driving range: When I arrived, we were allowed to hit off divot-plagued grass. However, they do have mats, but I am not sure when they are utilized. $8 for 80 balls seems a little steep, but it's not horrible. read more

$30 with cart after 3:00pm. I'm sold! They also give military discount. Positives: You can't help but reflects it's landscaping and management to the discipline of Navy. The grass were well groomed, and lushes green. It's near an airport so there's helicopter training near by and that was cool because you feel like your part of Navy and you're just taking some time off to hit some golf. Each hole has it's identity and challenges. You have to look at every hole before you hit there's a certain way to go about it. If you're just going to wack it with your driver then a hydrid all the time you'll get into trouble, entrapment if you will. There's one hole I didn't look and there was a running stream, you can't see it 150 yards away. There's plenty of hazard so watch out for them. Luckily I've gotten better with bunker shots so it wasn't too bad. This course is challenging. I was exhausted mentally and physically. The greens are small and fast with rolling mounds The cart has a Navigation with distance away from the hole and that's a big plus for me. Negatives: It's a tough course. If you're not patient and have a bad temper you won't have a good time. You'll be done by hole 5. See, like a Navy you gotta stay patient, and discipline - two things I can still learn a lot from... and I'm starting with golf, lol. read more

What you see is what you get. This is a fair golf course you can actually walk. It's usually well kept. I would call this course, a "players club". They enjoy their golf. I like the traditional feel and look. There are plenty of trees, but most don't come into play. The greens hold very well and can be slow at times. A slight breeze is usually a factor, especially on the closing holes in the afternoon. It has a grass range that is well-used. Many days you'll warm-up on the mats. It's a great value and an easy drive. read more

This is a 3.5 star course for sure... It isn't terribly exciting and is of the flatland variety versus the hilly interesting terrain type. However, all holes don't appear to be the same and the par three's are pretty enjoyable. The course is very well maintained for a public course but given the military factor I guess that is to be expected. The fairways were especially nice with the greens being pretty good. The course is similar to Costa Mesa Country Club but not quite as absent of trees and even a bit flatter. The Navy air field base is adjacent and visible from many fairways. The GREENS are not easy and definitely tougher than Costa Mesa. There is a snack shack mid-way through and there are plenty of bathrooms and drinking fountains. The CLUBHOUSE is old skool and per Yelp it looks like food should mostly be vetoed here but it for beverages it is of course satisfactory. The STAFF are friendly. read more

This course is pretty nice. It's around $40+ to walk it if you're not affiliated with the armed forces. The smaller 9 hole course is ok, I'd recommend it for beginner to intermediate players. The 18 hole course is tough, you've been warned. It gets really windy here sometimes. It's $4.00 for 40 range balls. Kinda steep, but they maintain their grass really well. read more

This course is pretty well maintained. And the pace of play is modest. (5-10 mins wait every hole) It's pretty long from the blue tees - you most likely will have approach shots over 130-140 if you're driving it 240-260. The one thing that is a letdown is their snack bar at the 12th hole is your only option for mid round food or drinks (unless you sneak them on) AND they only take cash. I guess they would rather save the couple cents per transaction rather than have my money. Other than that nice course. BYOB! read more

Just played the destroyer course in cypress it's a navy course open to public. Nice greens, I paid $30. Totally worth it. It was super slow play with a 4 some in front of us but the marshal came along and told them to hurry up and they did the rest of the game. He also told us 7:30 sharp to head in watching us like a hawk. The cart had gps. Told you the yardage. 3 hours 15 min and we finished the 13th hole. Long 500 yard par 5s. Most challenging course I have played. It's tough but lousy players could hang too. A ton of shots over lakes, Sand traps and trees. I would definitely recommend this place just know the pace is slow. read more

Played here yesterday with buddies from work. We normally play around the Anaheim area but one of the guys suggested the Navy course. I never heard of it but what a find. It was only a short 25 minutes from work and right near the 22 and 405 freeways. I was told it was a military only course until it was turned over to the public. Here are some highlights: Course Layout- not bad. There were some tricky water holes and a trees that weren't consuming your balls. Fairly flat with several doglegs. Being next to an airfield and homes, there wasn't much in terms of external scenery, but the course itself is excellent. 4 out of 5 (4/5). Greens/Fairways - good condition. 4/5. Pin placements were in the flat areas and several greens with multi tiers and slopes made for tricky putts. Pace of play- 5/5. Although we teed off 15 minutes behind schedule, we were able to play under 5 hours and finished at 6pm. It was crowded due to it being a Friday, but all Players seemed to realize that ready golf was the rule. I liked the fact that this course seems to have more seasoned golfers that understand how to pace the play. It makes for keeping your rhythm. Clubhouse/Pro Shop- 5/5. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. For the price ($37) twilight after 1:00pm, it was a great value and worth a visit. Playable for all skill levels. Definitely worth a return visit. read more
