Nazrawu Tibs, Awaze Tibs (lamb), Veggie Combo
Dangerous D.

I was visiting Silver Spring from out of town with a friend and was pleased to see all of the options available for Ethiopian cuisine in the area. We narrowed it down to Nazrawi Ethiopian Restaurant and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The staff was very welcoming and was burning a fresh ember of itan zaf as we were walking in. The ambiance was very relaxing. We chose Nazrawi Tibs, Awaze Tibs (lamb), and the vegetarian combo. It was absolutely excellent and some of the best Ethiopian I've ever had. Every single thing that arrived on our platter was delicious. I'm not always a "vegetarian" guy but I always get a vegetarian combo at every Ethiopian restaurant I try; I find it is a good indicator of quality. The beef came out sizzling and the lamb was spicy and rich and served on a bed of fresh njera. We had a huge portion of food and we ate more than I think either of us was expecting because it was just so good. We ended our meal with an excellent Ethiopian coffee set. All in all, this was just one of my favorite dining experiences I've had. The staff was wonderful and if I lived in the area, this would be one of my spots I would frequent regularly. I can't recommend this place enough. A++ experience. Keep it up Nazrawi! I will be back again next time I'm in town!

Mahaberawi combo platter

I came in here for lunch with one other person. The restaurant was pretty empty so service was fast. The food was delicious! I got the Mahaberawi combo platter and it was the perfect platter with a little bit of everything. It's very filling without being too expensive. The other person I was with had a similar dish but it was vegetarian. He also really enjoyed his food. The service was great. Our waitress even packed our leftovers so that it wouldn't be such a mess. Silver Spring is full of great Ethiopian restaurants and this is definitely one of them.

This is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in Silver Spring. That means a lot considering there are so many Ethiopian places in the area and the competition is high. I had Goat Awaze Tibs and it's reallllllly yum. It has hot chili in it. Very nice flavor. Good quantity. Service was good, went for dinner on a week night. They didn't have our favorite honey wine. They offered another sweet wine. My friend got a mix of two different kitfos and she liked them too. The restaurant seems spacious. Clean restrooms

I was excited to try this Ethiopian spot for the 1st time...especially since I saw the high Yelp reviews. When I got there, it wasn't busy so I thought the customer service would be top notch. I was wrong! The hostess/waitress didn't offer me any water...so I asked for tea thinking it would be exotic or authentic. I was surprised it was just plain ole Lipton tea then I looked to the left and noticed a strand of hair in the glass sugar container which ruined my appetite. It went downhill from there. This explains my poor review.

Mahaberawi - beef tibs w/ collard greens (ye'abasha gomen), yellow split peas (kik alicha), cabbage (tikil gomen) and injera.

Don't sleep on this place! This is easily one of my top 10 favorite restaurants in the DMV. They season their food so well that every item is bursting with flavor. I ordered the Mahaberawi - beef tibs (spicy or mild, you choose) w/ 3 sides, I chose the collard greens (ye'abasha gomen), yellow split peas (kik alicha), cabbage (tikil gomen) and injera. Normally, I also add Nazrawi Fish to my order - that's a whole fried fish w/ a side of marinated house salad but since I was eating alone I decided on the Mahaberawi by itself. I could become a vegan the sides by themselves are so good. If you try this place, I promise you won't regret it, it's well worth the trip!

Veggie Combo with Tibs special

My first time going to this place, as usual another Yelp find, the ratings and reviews were a determining factor to give it try. I love Ethiopian food and I was bringing my little sis to have her first experience. The place was clean, felt inviting, nothing fancy but well kept. It seems like a family-run operation in the good sense. The food took a bit to come, which to me is a good sign; when it comes too fast, it's always questionable. We had the veggy combo and the Nazrawi meat tips, everything was delicious, tasted home-cooked. Spice-rich, sauces with right consistency, tender meat, the collard greens and beets were my favorites. I'm not Ethiopian but I've had plenty of injera, in many US cities, and this had the right balance of sour and fluffy. I had a positive experience, and the staff was nice. Ah, and we also had the Baklava for dessert.

Delicious! I had the meat and veggie combo - everything was great. I've tried several Ethiopian restaurants in the area, and this is now my favorite :).

After a five week medical trip to Chicago we decided to take advantage of what our neighborhood is most known for: Ethiopian food. I have tried most of the restaurants here but Debab was one on my bucket list to try. We think it is now our favorite. We ordered two teas which had wonderful sweet spices to it as well as the Lamb Awaze Tibs and the Debab Special Tibs. Compared to the other restaurants that serve all sorts of alcohol and get loud, Debab has no liquor license which makes it good for families and those wanting a sober time with loved ones or friends. The tea is definitely a wonderful alternative to the beer or wine we would usually order at the other Ethiopian restaurants. The Lamb Awaze Tibs had a great kick to it, not overly spicy or minced so you can taste and feel the delicious lamb chunks. The Debab Special Tibs was also equally tasty and they definitely butter it better than the other restaurants. Next time, we will try some different dishes as they have an excellent variety and you can also create your own express plate here which is unique. The seats are also very comfortable as I just had surgery in sacrum to remove a tumor and it can be discomforting without my cushion that I forgot. Don't forget to check in so you can get a 20% off coupon and be sure to tip what is taken off to equal the original total, as the receipt suggests a lower tip based on the discounted total. Our server was on point and gave us injera when we were running low on it. I think we'll be back in June when my father comes to visit us as this our new favorite Ethiopian restaurant.

I found this restaurant after doing a Google search because I wanted authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The 5 star reviews were the truth! From the time I walked in for late lunch, the host and I believe manager, welcomed me to their restaurant. I had an appetizer and a main dish (vegetarian), all of which was absolutely delicious. This was more than enough for one sitting, so I have dinner or lunch tomorrow and priced nice. Shout out to the entire ladies in the kitchen, at the bar, and serving...

Lamb Lega Tibs

I had lunch here the other day and it was a nice experience. They didn't have an extensive menu, but they offer the greatest hits such as do to eat, etc. I was looking for lamb Shekla tibs, but they didn't offer that so the waiter recommended the lamb lega tibs instead. In addition to that we ordered the veggie combo as well. It was kind of odd that they show up as Debab on yelp and their menu still says Debab, but the sign outside of the restaurant says Nazwari. Maybe they changed ownership and haven't had a chance to update everything. Either way , the food was really good, fresh, and the service was quick. I look forward to stopping by here again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. We got the Debab special combo with the grilled beef and a Debab special tibs, which all came on one huge dish with a basket of the Ethiopian flatbreads (injera). I might be wrong here, but I think the dish is meant to be eaten with hands because no utensils were served, but they have forks in the back. Both the beef orders came sautéed with jalapeño peppers, which I really liked and would recommend if you're into spicy food. These two orders could have easily fed three people because my friend and I were stuffed by the end of the meal and we still had good amount of leftovers. Loved the generous servings and the workers were super nice and friendly.

Love the mushroom tibs (enguday tibs). I did not share a drop of my huge portion. The forgot was also really good. I will be going back.

I was told this charge does not go to the waiter but is instead shared with other staff (busser, host, etc.), and that customers are expected to leave an additional tip for the server. I initially left a 20% tip because I did not notice the automatic 18% service charge. To make matters worse, I was initially given the wrong receipt, which added to the confusion. When I realized the service charge had already been included and asked for the extra tip to be removed, the waiter told me he does not receive any portion of the 18% charge. I asked whether the expectation was for customers to leave a total of 38%, and I was told that is how it works at this restaurant and in Washington DC. I found the billing and tipping process confusing and misleading. I won't be back.

Java Nation strikes a great balance between a welcoming café and a productive meeting spot. It is really unfortunate because the Key Lime Pie and coffee taste decent but not sure if the food is good enough to compensate for the crappy attitude. Please consider hiring people who actually enjoy providing customer service. Their steak burrito was right up their with anything in the frozen food section. Banana loaf was dry, otherwise would be good when fresh. For faster and much more friendly service, stick with Starbucks. And if you still prefer their coffee, make sure you taste it before walking out so you don't just pay $1+tip+fee for syrup they forget to add. We had neighbors getting construction this week so I worked there Wednesday morning for some peace. The menu is small, but mighty, the service is iffy, and the pastries are store bought and stale. The front of house guy who brings the food and prepared the drinks is awesome, accommodating, and polite. I ordered egg and cheese on croissant, which came with salad and fruit. I also got my standard americano with room for cream. The food was well made, the perfect temperature and had just right seasoning levels. The americano was a bit cold so I figure he'd let it set while the food was being made to run them together. I had asked for cream, it was forgotten, they don't have any Splenda, only sweet n low, and their teaspoons are tablespoons, but the food was good. I also ordered a muffin later just to see what their pastries were about. It had clearly been in the pastry case for more than 3 days. It was REVOLTINGLY stale. I returned and advised and he offered a "fresh one" - from the fridge, in plastic, from a bakery in NEW JERSEY. They'd be better off selling Costco muffins. That muffin was HORRIBLE. Sickeningly sweet, 7 blueberries that were clearly rehydrated in the batter, and tasted like oil and preservatives. Sad. However, I came to work! There were two tables there when I arrived, they left within 15/20 minutes. The bathroom was not clean AT ALL - toilet bowl was gross and it was 10:00 am and they were out of soap and toilet paper. Ewwwww. I pray there was a hand washing sink in the kitchen. Also, the cook or whomever was in the back was watching something on tv, yelling in Spanish loudly, and generally making a racket. This did not make for an easy or enjoyable working environment. The layout is lovely, the chairs are comfy, the tables are just the right size for individuals or small groups (read 2 people) so the vibe is work/co-work, but then the dude is yelling in the kitchen!!! The other thing is, there was NOBODY in the place but me and one other dude who'd long since eaten, and the tables from the other people hadn't been wiped. They were bussed, but not wiped. The floor wasn't swept. It was just a general aura of idgaf but that's young workers in 2023 I guess. The concept is good, but the execution is struggling. I want to hope it's a bad day but who knows. I would try again if I was in the area but would definitely not go out of my way given the parking plus the issues above. Okay, not Great.
