I stopped by their little café after work one day and instantly fell in love with how cute it was and the food was so delicious that I knew I had to try their restaurant next door. I'm so glad I did! The atmosphere was beautiful spacious, modern, and really inviting. The staff made the experience even better; everyone was friendly and took the time to explain the menu in detail, which I really appreciated. The food overall was great, from the drinks to the dessert. The only miss for me was the Margherita flatbread it lacked a bit of flavor compared to everything else but everything else we tried was absolutely delicious. Enjoy the sweet cocktails, namely the mulled wine, Touch of Peru with passion fruit, hot spiked cider, seasonal apple rum cocktail and some of the coffee. The seasonal peppermint mocha was great but was quite sweet. The cardamom rose had an earthy mushroom taste that tasted more like dried rose than rose extract. Great friendly service at the bar. Ugh I really want to like this place but I keep having disappointing experiences. As far as atmosphere and vibes go it's exactly what I'm looking for, but the coffee is just ok and everything else is very overpriced for what it is. My hazelnut latte was really sweet. So that's a preference issue but it'll keep me from coming back. The croissants are very tasty but I can't justify the cost even for a good croissant. Ended up passing this place as we were going to another restaurant and when we found out that one was closed, we circled back. Came on Labor Day in the evening and it wasn't really busy but there in indoor and outdoor seating and some of the outdoor seating does have umbrellas. I had the lobster roll and the taste of Peru drink and I enjoyed it. This lobster roll is done with mayo but still gives off a fresh flavor and it comes with fried. It was $22. This is my second time here and I really love this new venue in downtown Silver Spring. I have been to the Rockville location and this one has a slightly more chic vibe. The food is always tasty. I recently visited Java Nation for brunch with a friend. They were surprisingly packed at 11:00 am. Aesthetics-wise, the restaurant beautiful, modern, nicely decorated and very clean. The table/seats were less than optimal. It was such a tight fit that we had to get up for people at a nearby table to use the restroom. The waitress could barely get through as well. Their flight, in my opinion, is not worth $24. The drinks are basically mixed shots on ice (size-wise). My server kindly let me switch it out for a single cocktail. The burger & fries were tasty but you do have to pay $4 more for the fries. Overall will likely return and avoid the drinks flight. read more

I have been meaning to try them out for a while and our air conditioning broke so prime chance for a weekday brunch and work session lol The good: 1) the location is convenient. Right off of the silver Spring metro station, there is a Montgomery County garage right next door that does offer all day parking. 2) the space is beautifully decorated with warm woods and lots of greenery- even the BATHROOM is a vibe; 3) the service- I was greeted immediately, sat quickly and the server was prompt, friendly but didn't hover. I had work and calls and was able to get to em done. 4) the menu is pretty broad. I figure there is something for almost any type of eater there (I didn't check for and don't have allergies neither am I a vegan, so take this with a grain of salt) and 5) my iced coffee- cardamom and rose- was a standout. 4/5 The meh- honestly, I asked what the best thing on the brunch menu was and I was recommended a geuyere leek quiche which sounded AMAAAAZING and it DEFINITELY had the potential to be but it was slightly cold and when I asked do it to be warmed it came back clearly microwaved (which makes sense) but the crust was overcooked and soggy and then the middle was cold again 30 seconds later even though, to their credit it WAS hot at first. The flavor was there and honestly I'd try it again, but it was a little salty- Gruyère is a saltier cheese- so that's something. The salad dressing was SO Good but there was SO MUCH OF IT. 2/5 Overall 3.5/5 I rounded up for the service. Review solely of takeout coffee value, the worst I've seen. 6oz regular size for a hot beverage (both regular and large have two shots). I got a cappuccino ($5) with soy ($1 extra). Then a credit card fee was applied to the transaction ($.19). After tax and tip this is easily the most expensive drink around. The espresso itself was good enough but the milk was more like a latte. Yelp doesn't differentiate the operating hours between the café (Java Express) and their full restaurant (Java Restobar) next door. I posted the hours in the photo section. I stopped in after 5pm to get dessert to go. The cafe was closed, but I picked it up from the bar. The restaurant is really classy. Much nicer (and more expensive) than their Kensington location. There is some construction going on across the street so when I went, it was dark out and I had to loop around to make my way back to the parking garage and there are actually two of them. One is directly across from the restaurant, but I parked in the other one, not realizing the other one was there. You pay by license plate, with one hour being the minimum you can book. It's $1.00/hr. I miss the days when the coin meters were here. I could have just put a quarter in, and be back in a flash. My tiramisu was elegant and delicious. Should be for $9.00. It was a special treat after a long month of testing students at school. The menu looked enticing so I do plan to come back and try the mushroom ravioli if it's not an occasional item on the menu. read more

Both the restaurant and to-go area was decorated nicely and had a friendly atmosphere--I really liked the area was shaded so even in a hot day you can be in a shaded area and enjoy the ambiance. I ordered the Golden Milk to try something new, I was not the biggest fan. It was very oaty, and the added sweetener wasn't as much as I would have liked. If I order it again, I would definitely have to add an additional sweetener as I like my drinks a bit more sweet. I've been to Java Nation three times--twice to the restaurant and once to their coffee shop next door. I enjoy the restaurant, but the experience is inconsistent. And their cafe is forgettable. The cafe looks nice. It's small, with some pantry items and to-go options, plus you can order breakfast and coffee. However, we found the breakfast and coffee not great. My boyfriend's omelet and home fries were just OK, according to him. My breakfast sandwich was bland and tiny; plus, I had asked for no egg, and they had to remake it. My iced caramel latte was awful, so I tossed it. No seating inside but there is a table or two outside for the cafe. I was saddened by this experience, as the restaurant is a different experience. I cannot imagine how these two places are sisters. The restaurant is good, but inconsistent. Service has always been friendly, but one time it was prompt and the other time we barely saw our server. I think Java Nation has really great cocktails. However, I ordered the Nib Negroni one week, and it was so rich and nuanced. I loved it. I ordered it again the next week and there was no way it was the same drink. A friend was told they couldn't modify the shawarma because it was premade, but we'd ordered the shawarma before, and it didn't seem premade. So instances like this are confusing. But, my cheeseburger was great. The fries are addictive. The mini empanadas are super flavorful and my arepas were tasty and filling. This all noted, the restaurant is really cute and lively. We enjoy the live music, because it is at a comfortable level, where you can still converse with your party. I really want to return for brunch. True to its name, the cappuccinos here are amazing. As is the food and service. They also have live music sometimes during dinner time. Most of the food I've tried here is amazing, including the quiche (breakfast), spinach dip, fries (seasoned to perfection), and quinoa bowl with ribeye (see picture), whole brazino (very good but needed a bump of salt). Everyone and us thought it was going to be very tiny as there was a deli where they now have the take out spot. However, we were all surprised they open up a wonderful restobar in the adjacent space with a lot of patio seating. The menu has so many great options for dine in. We went for dinner with my mother for he birthday and will return many times including for brunch. My wife has also gotten us take out a couple times during the week and with Starbucks leaving Ellsworth Place, it is great having an excellent local coffee shop so close. We started with the Spinach Croquettes as an appetizer and shared the margarita and sangria flight which was amazing. Our entrees were Green Mushroom Tacos, a Roasted Beets and Citrus Salad with Salmon, and a Whole Branzino which we all loved. Plus for dessert they gave us a complimentary slice of Dulce De Leche Cheesecake with a candle for my mother's birthday. In addition to all the great food the service was amazing and the ambiance is great too and they had music on the piano playing. The lattes, matchas, sandwiches, and salads from takeout were amazing as well. This is one of if not the best restaurant(s) in Downtown Silver Spring which we are so fortunate to have! read more

Decided to come here with my boyfriend for brunch (we did the dine in service end of the restaurant) and I wanted to like this place so bad. Let's start with the positives: it's really nice in there. Beautiful aesthetic, it has hints of greenery throughout the entire restaurant. Servers are really kind, great customer service. We didn't have a reservation but made accommodation for us to dine in. Food is delicious. Now I had asked for fried eggs to go with my pancakes, and when the waiter brought out my pancakes, there were no eggs. Okay cool no problem, sometimes they'll bring out one thing, go back in the kitchen and bring out the additional parts of the meal. After about 10 min the waiter hadn't come with my eggs, so when he came to check on how we were doing, I reminded him that I had eggs with my order. He said okay let me go check on that for you. He leaves, and we continue on with our meal. 20 min later, still nothing, and when he eventually came around, I reminded him again that my egg order is missing. He apologizes and says when he gets a chance he will check on it. Long story short, I had finished my pancakes and coffee and never received the eggs lols when the check came out, I requested that they remove the egg order because I never received it after 2 reminders, and they obliged. The ONLY reason I am giving them 3 stars is because they have a grab and go part of the restaurant where you can get finger food and coffees to go (so it's not part of the dine in section of the restaurant) and I LOVE it there. She directed me to have a seat at the bar since table seating was apparently unavailable to solo diners. Service was initially slow at the bar despite the restaurant being nearly empty. I had to request the menu instead of it being presented automatically. AMBIENCE The restaurant boasts a beautiful indoor and outdoor seating area, including high and low top tables, a booth in the back, and a semi-private seating area behind the hostess stand. The bar is adorned with shelves lined with plants and wine bottles. The words "do more of what makes you happy" on the wall serves as a visible reminder to indulge, which I certainly did. The atmosphere was further enhanced by an eclectic mix of today's top hits playing from the speakers, while flat screen monitors displayed information about the restaurant and its coffee beans. FOOD I began with coffee and almond milk, which was a pretty good start. However, the blueberry pancakes were disappointingly dry, leaving me feeling like I was eating flour even after adding a little pancake syrup. I was looking forward to the opening of Java Nation after having visited the Rockville location recently. The menu is quite varied with coffee and tea, brunch, baked goods, desserts, lunch, and dinner. We visited for brunch on a Sunday. It's smallish inside with maybe 20 tables. I was very psyched that they accepted reservations, since a place this size could fill up fast, but at 10 a.m. we probably didn't need our reservation. By the time we left 90 minutes later, it was packed, though. It's a comfortable space, with lots of windows and nice decor. It will be great to go here once it warms up - they have a really nice patio, complete with a "grassy" area and rocking chairs. I ordered a caramel latte that was delicious. My friend had a flat white that looked good, too. She had the ham and cheese omelet, which came with fruit and potatoes, my husband had the huevos rancheros and a side of potatoes, and I had the leek and gruyere quiche, which came with a salad. All were tasty, well-plated, and high quality. I noticed that people at other tables had gotten beer and mimosa flights -- something to keep in mind for next time! My only note is the service, which, since this place only opened recently, I'm going to give them a pass. It took a very long time for our coffees to come out, and the server could have easily taken our food orders during that time we were waiting, but didn't. It also took her an enormous amount of time to finally bring our checks. Again, they're new and working it out. It's definitely worth it, just plan extra time when eating there. read more
