Narragansett Bikes (often stylized as 'NBX Bikes') is a bicycle shop that opened in Narragansett, Rhode Island in 2007. It was founded by Matt Bodziony and his business partner Chris Dale. Beginning in his college years, Bodziony worked at Caster's Bicycles: a family-owned bicycle shop with locations in Providence and Warwick. He would end up working at Caster's for 19 years. Eventually, Bodziony wanted to open his own bicycle shop. In 2007, his old friend Joe Sisson informed him that he was looking to sell his family's bike shop, Narragansett Bikes, which had been family-owned and operated since 1989. Bodziony and Dale partnered up to purchase the business and rebranded it as "NBX Bikes". In early 2013, NBX moved down the street to a larger location. They even opened a yoga studio upstairs. That same year, Reed Caster (third generation owner of Caster's Bicycles) sold his two locations to NBX. In 2015, Rob Foulkes (owner of East Providence Cycle) retired and sold his shop to NBX as well. By 2020, the ownership at NBX decided to go back to their roots. They sold off all of their secondary locations and decided to operate as a single-store local bike shop going forward. I recently stopped at NBX Bikes for the first time. I had seen an advertisement for NBX to host a "JAWS" night that coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the classic blockbuster. I was very interested in attending; not only for my interest in cycling, but also because "Jaws" is my all-time favorite film. I arrived at the shop in the early evening. I was really impressed with NBX's showroom, their selection of bikes and accessories, and their excellent customer service. The first event of the evening was a 22-mile group ride along the seashore from the shop to Point Judith Lighthouse and back. It was so much fun! After the ride, all attendees were treated to an outdoor screening of "Jaws" which featured free cook-out food, beer and merchandise courtesy of Narragansett Beer. The beer brand is proudly featured in the film. This event also marked the release of a brand new exclusive "Jaws" bicycle jersey that was produced by a partnership between NBX and Narragansett Beer. I sure was glad that I pre-ordered my jersey a month earlier. I broke it in a week later when I was cycling on vacation in Maine. Overall, I had an excellent experience with the staff at NBX. The salesman at this bike shop spent so much time with us and taught us so much about bikes, optimal body position, equipment and more. What a great experience. My bicycle is about 30 years old and heavy. I'm looking for a newer, lighter model to use for long distance rides along the bike path. This shop has a variety of street bikes, off road bikes and e-bikes plus storage systems, fenders, saddles, grips, racks and safety equipment. The prices seem to be in-line with what our expectations are and the sales rep emailed a quote for two cycles we thing will work best for my needs. They also rent cycles here, so I may just rent from time to time to see if it suits my needs before I purchase. I like that option. read more

I am a BIG fan of buying from the brick and mortar vs. online when I can (I realize this isn't always possible). Recently I purchased a Wahoo trainer from NBX Bikes to enhance my winter cycling. This is a perfect example of why supporting brick and mortar is so important: I got not only top service but also solid support for this product from JB at NBX. He talked me through some key steps to make this product the best experience. You can't put a dollar sign on the knowledge you get when shopping with a real person vs. clicking on a computer. I appreciate the honesty provided by this owner and his workers. My bike was ready in two hours. The competitor store one town over in South Kingstown has two prices: one for tourists and one for locals. That business owner also will tell customers that they need a full tune up when they actually don't. That does not sit well with me me because the tourists help our local economy. Integrity and honesty from NBX is what has now made me a lifelong customer. read more

Customer service is terrible from my experience with this company staff. Recently went to inquire about renting an E-BIKE. Employee told me to use their website. When I asked questions he just ignored me and continued To walk around the store. This wasn't my first bad experience with their staff. Better off going to STEDMAN's in Wakefield!!! read more

I brought my beat up , 1969 Dawes bike to NBX in the beginning of June for a tune up and a new seat. Picked it up earlier than expected yesterday and immediately went for a ride. It's like riding a new bike! The new seat is extremely comfortable, looks vintage and is far better than the orignal. My family from this area has been going here for years. I just moved back and wanted to get our bikes tuned up and also get helmets for our ourselves and our 2 children. It seems like they're always busy but I've been greeted and helped immediately every single time. They are so friendly and knowledgeable. I'm not a serious cyclist by any means, but it seems to me they have a large selection and a nice range of prices. Their customer service (especially for me, since I don't know exactly what I want/need and could have easily been intimidated) was really wonderful. I will keep coming back! read more

I live in Narragansett during the summer and have shopped NBX for about 30 years. It only gets better. Matt (the owner) and his whole team are great. From buying a high end bike to easy repairs, NBX does it all. Very helpful and friendly. Shopping local has never been better. And NBX makes it very easy to come back year after year. And I can tell that I am not the only one--they have tons of regulars--or at least they seem to treat everyone like a regular. They do get busy for tunes up, but have a really good scheduling system that allows to make an appointment and get you bike back same day or next day tops. read more

I'm updating this review because we just bought another two bikes in 2020. My wife and I are regular customers. We could bring our business to any of a dozen shops between our home in Lexington, MA, and Narragansett RI, but we keep coming back to NBX. The owner and staff are super nice and helpful, and we really enjoy talking to them. They know their stuff, they really care about biking, and they care about their customers. They take all the time needed to help us find what we need. NBX also has a great policy of letting you test ride whatever you want. I test-rode maybe 4 or 5 bikes before I chose to buy a Cervelo R5, and I LOVE my bike. Similarly, my wife loves her new Trek Domane. We also have bikes for our kids from NBX. We also service our bikes with NBX. NBX also supports centuries and they have shop rides. A couple years ago, I forgot my water bottle before The Flattest Century of the East and the NBX guy at the registration area found and gave me a bottle gratis. Support your LBS, folks. read more

I was having a bad day. I was out on a ride, heading north on 1A by Bonnet Shores. An idiot in a blue SUV right hooked me in front of CVS. Nearly killed me. I grabbed a handful of brakes and nearly smashed into him. After screaming at the idiot, I shot up the road, and about a mile later, I had a blowout. Upon examining the rear tire, I could see that a good chunk of rubber must have been left on the road when I got cut off by Mr Douchebag. I got a new tube in and a tire boot and turned around. I went into NBX simply looking to add a little air to the tire. Don, one of the bike mechanics, told me he could put a new tire on so that I'd get home safely to Wakefield. I didn't even have ID on me, much less any money. They replaced my tire with a simple promise that I'd be back to pay. There just aren't businesses like this in the world, anymore. This review is a big thank you to Don and the people at NBX. This is what outstanding literally means- to stand out from all the rest. I highly recommend this business. read more

I'm mixed about this review. Although my exp was not great I feel like this business is normally a good place to go. This was my first visit; I probably will never go back even though I live within a couple miles of the shop. Upon entering I was immediately greeted by friendly staff who seemed eager to help. I let them know I was there to have a couple tire tubes replaced. They happily directed me to the service counter for assistance. This is where things went downhill. I wasn't ask if I needed advice, parts, or if I wanted them to do it for me. Once it was determined I wasn't there to buy a bike they happily redirected me. Once I was directed to the service counter and not the sales floor I had stepped into a black hole. The guy behind the service counter was building a bike. He stood about 5 feet away behind a partial wall, but he knew I was there; he looked right at me. I stood at the little counter for about 5 minutes. No one ever asked if I needed help, nor did the greeter follow up to see if I was good to go. I was just reaching to grabb my tires and leave when another employee, who was also building a bike behind the counter, walks by the 1st technician and tells him I'm there. He slams down a tool and finally comes to the counter. He starts poking at the screen and says "last name, phone number" in an unamused, irritated tone, like I'm a problem who was bothering him. No greeting, no introduction, no price quote, or questions about options, nothing. It was rude. I gave info and left tires for repair. I was told they would be done later that day and they would call when ready. They did repair them quickly and I did receive a friendly call a short time later letting me know they were ready. When I picked them up I was shocked at the price. ~$50 to replace the tube in two tires. $50! This should have been $25 max. These are not expensive high end bikes; these are Walmart bikes. Last year I had a different shop replace a tube and it cost me $8. $50 is ridiculous for 2 bike tire tubes for this level of bike. It's to bad because I could have seen me doing more business there in the future, but not after this. They caught me off guard and made $50 by over charging for a couple tire tubes, but they lost out on $100's, if not $1000's more of future business. I had originally intended to purchase some other gear while I was there with my son, but gladly opted not too in the end. read more

Went to NBX today because I needed a quick brake adjustment. I'm new to biking and I was a little timid about going in... I am so glad I did though. I was really impressed by how helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly the guy who helped me was. Picked up a few necessities and was able to get the brakes fixed same day. Walked Into the shop. 3 people working no other customers. Basically said not sure what I want l, pretty much asking to be sold something. Shows me one bike and says we could probably get other colors from warehouse. That was it. I said thanks I'll think about it. Went to Stedmans in Wakefield. Better prices great service. Don't stop at this chain nbx they don't care and they might think they are too good for your business. read more

This is the best bike shop I have ever worked with in 45 years of biking. They are so professional, knowledgeable and helpful. I live in Virginia and go to Bonnet Shores every year for two weeks on my summer vacation. My bike always needs something while I am there. They never seem to amaze me. There is ALWAYS someone to help and every time I think I have a BIG problem, they alleviate my fears and address what was actually a minor problem. In today's world, service like this is rare I would recommend them to anyone and will book ahead next year and have my bike serviced up there instead of in Virginia. It is rare nowadays to find the level of customer service that his store delivers. The entire staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. We bought a bike for my son a few months ago and they took the time to find the correct bike and not the most expensive one. Even the accessories they told us what to put the money into and what was not as important. Had him take it for a ride then instantly made a few adjustments to further make it fit him perfectly. Then it was my turn and I purchased an E bike and both Kevin and "Hutch" really took a lot of time answering questions and explaining things I did not even think of asking, all without making me feel stupid. Very down to earth. Because of their input I bought a very different bike than what I thought I would. It was absolutely the right choice. Also, I went in to buy the bike and Kevin told me a sale was starting in a few days and to wait. That conversation saved me hundreds of dollars. It. Was not just about making a sale. My wife and I just purchased bikes and accessories at NBX and we couldn't be happier. We had a general idea of what we were looking for, but we definitely needed some direction. All of the staff members were extremely helpful and informative, but also very laid back. We never felt like we were getting a sales pitch. This is a review for the yoga studio only; the bike shop looks awesome, but I didn't purchase anything there, or even go inside. While on vacation over Thanksgiving, I stopped in to the NBX Studio's hot power yoga classes, including the donation-based Thanksgiving Day class. And I'm so glad I did! Liz is an amazing teacher with a beautiful, uplifting energy. Starting each morning of my vacation at her class energized me for the day ahead, and left me feeling strong, happy, and stress-free. I sincerely hope we come back to Narragansett next year for Thanksgiving, in large part because I want to return and practice more here. In this day and age of blase' customer service, this place is a rare gem! I had a bike on hold for 5 days for my husband's birthday gift - also had a suspension stem ordered to be brought from the Providence store. We went over to try out the bike on his birthday, but alas, an inventory error - no bike. We were so disappointed, but it happens - someone didn't check it out when it was transferred to Providence. But fear not, Kevin jumped in to save the weekend. He promised the bike would be there next day with all the modifications in place. Not only that, he had an alternate bike built - that was our second choice in case the fx was not the right fit. We came back out the next day and Nick was assigned to help us out. What an awesome young man and so knowledgeable - he answered all our silly newbie questions with patience. As it turned out, the original bike on sale was not a comfortable fit - the alternate fit great but was a bit out of budget. Kevin worked with us and offered a fantastic price on the Verve plus all the gear and modifications we needed, as a heartfelt apology for our disappointment on the previous day. We were both floored by the outstanding service and genuine concern that they let a potential customer down. They made up for it ten fold and I am considering buying my new bike there next week. Although we have 2 very good bike shops on Aquidneck Island, we will happily drive over the bridge to Narragansett to do business here. They have made us NBX customers for life! read more

Bought two bikes from NBX in March and had the best experience ever. PJ was very helpful, patient and very knowledgeable on a variety of bikes and gear. We never felt pressured or stressed throughout the whole process. Great job PJ!! Update - it's been almost 5 months and we finally were able to bring our bikes in for our free 30 day (yes its been much longer) tune-up. We dropped off our bikes at 4:10pm yesterday (Sunday) and were expecting the shop to tell us leave the bikes and we will have them done for you in a few days. To our surprise they said, here are two vouchers for free ice cream across the street at Brickley's Ice Cream shop (amazing ice cream as well). Enjoy the ice cream and stop back in 30-45 minutes and we will have the bikes done for you. We stopped back at 4:45pm and sure enough our bikes were just being brought up to us. Not only did they not charge us for our tune-up which we expected to pay for due to the 5 months time-fame but they took our bikes out to our truck.
