I was here for an early dinner and was once again overwhelmed with the choices here. I had the shrimp and cod combo. Both were very nicely cooked. A ton of fries, hush puppies and yummy coleslaw came with the meal. The drinks are self serve and I was so thankful they had great sweet tea. The service was good and food came out fast and hot. There are only big tables inside but you can eat outside as well. I will return!

If you're searching for the quintessential North Carolina seafood experience - without leaving the Piedmont - look no further than NC Seafood Restaurant in Raleigh. Nestled beside the bustling State Farmers Market, this unpretentious eatery has become a beloved local institution for a reason: the fried Calabash-style seafood is simply delicious, and the portions are as generous as the Southern hospitality. The heart of NC Seafood Restaurant's appeal is its mastery of Calabash-style frying--a method that lightly breads seafood, allowing the freshness and flavor of the fish, shrimp, scallops, or oysters to shine through rather than being overwhelmed by heavy batter. Whether you're partial to shrimp, flounder, catfish, or oysters, the kitchen delivers each order piping hot and perfectly cooked--never greasy or overdone. The fried oysters and scallops are particular standouts, praised for their juiciness and mild, fresh taste. One of the most talked-about features of NC Seafood Restaurant is the sheer quantity of food you receive. Even a regular-sized platter can easily feed two hungry adults, while the large combo platters are often shared among three or more diners, with leftovers to spare. Each meal comes with a mountain of golden hush puppies--slightly sweet and oniony--plus thick-cut fries and a side of crisp coleslaw. Don't expect white tablecloths or fine dining at NC Seafood Restaurant. The atmosphere is laid-back and rustic, with cement floors and picnic table seating, both indoors and outside. Many guests enjoy the communal tables, which foster a friendly, down-home vibe and sometimes lead to meeting new people over a shared love of seafood. The service is fast and efficient: order at the counter, grab a number, and your food will be ready before you know it--even when there's a line out the door, which is a common sight during peak hours. For many families and visitors, a trip to NC Seafood Restaurant is a must whenever they're in Raleigh. It's become a tradition for locals and out-of-towners alike, especially after a stroll through the Farmers Market. The restaurant's commitment to quality, value, and that unmistakable Calabash flavor has earned it a loyal following and high praise as one of the best spots for fried seafood in the region. If you're craving fried seafood done right--light, crispy, and flavorful--NC Seafood Restaurant is a can't-miss destination. The portions are huge, the prices are fair, and the food is consistently fresh and satisfying. Whether you're a lifelong fan of Calabash-style cooking or trying it for the first time, you'll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a true taste of North Carolina's coastal culinary heritage.

This is a definitely a must-visit spot if you're at the farmers market. You'll find it by walking past the farmers market - it's in a large building behind all of the booths. This place is popular, so be prepared to wait a bit in line and for your food. Seating is also difficult to find during peak hours. However, the amount of food you get for the price is hard to beat. I got the crab cakes - they were very, very fried but tasty with the tartar sauce! My partner ordered the fried shrimp and flounder. Both were delicious.

Picked my wife up at the airport and she wanted seafood and here we went. Being a Saturday it was quite bust but I found a table fairly quickly. We always split the seafood combo of scollops and shrimp. They are generous with the portions as well. We got four meals out of this. The scollops were big and flavorful and the shrimp were done perfectly. The hush puppies were a little sweet, just the way we like them. Bring your appetite.

First picture is before, second picture is what was left of these two meals. Let me start by saying I CAN PUT IT AWAY! And my wife and I both got regular sized meals, I got the captains platter and she got the shrimp platter and holy $h1t did they load them up!!! There was so much GOOD fried seafood on these platters it may be one of the best meals I've got for the money in my life! If you get two platters for two people don't buy another meal that day because you will not need it! The hushpuppies and coleslaw were also great! Deviled crab was elite. Not a bad thing to say. The vibe inside is very casual, self service picnic table vibe but man oh man is it worth it!

After shopping at the farmers' market, we worked up an appetite. We stopped here for some good food. There was a long line when we walked in, but it moved quickly. The seating is park-bench style, first-come, first-served. I recommend grabbing a seat as soon as you see one instead of waiting until after you order. The serving sizes were very generous. The fish was good, especially with the tartar sauce. This is a great spot if you want to try some local fish.

We all enjoyed our meals! Everything was hot and delicious! Nice casual, laid back atmosphere. Love the picnic table touch. The staff were all helpful and friendly, all while constantly working hard, very busy. Shopping at the Farmers' Market? Check them out for lunch or dinner!

This is definitely another classic Raleigh spot. It's located at the State Farmers Market BUT it's open everyday of the week! When you need that fried seafood fix, this place has exactly what you need. This time around I got the regular combo plate with fried oysters and crab cakes, yes there's an up charge for those, but I was feeling fancy today! Combo plates always come with hushpuppies, home fries and coleslaw. None of the fried food is too greasy, I'd say just the right amount. The service is always quick, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for my food. There's picnic table seating both inside and outside. I'd recommend coming on the weekends so you can also take advantage of the Farmers Market!

3 Combo with Flounder, Deviled Crab and Shrimp which comes with homefries, hushpuppies and coleslaw. So fresh and so generous!

Hands down, the best! Everyone is so friendly and helpful. We went on a Sunday and the line moved really quick. They have ordering down to a science! The girl who took our order was helpful and the older gentleman at the register was so friendly! Now, the food! We ordered the 3 combo to share. The flounder was fried to perfection, the deviled crab was amazing and the fried shrimp, you just cant go wrong! So much food, you definitely dont leave hungry!

The chocolate pie must have changed. No more merengue and a different crust. Is this change permanent?

It has changed and unfortunately not as good as what I had before. Not sure if it's permanent but will mention to the owner tomorrow when we eat there. Thankfully the seafood remains unchanged and awesome.

The also has all the side condiments you would want to go with your pho which is hard to find around here. It photographs beautifully. Unfortunately, restaurants aren't judged on lighting. We ordered everything upfront: Banh Xeo (explicitly no shrimp due to a shellfish allergy), Cha Gio, Pho Tai, and the Chef Special. Somehow, not everything was entered correctly. The Banh Xeo arrived covered in shrimp. Allergy clearly stated. It was sent back immediately. We were told they could remake it, but it would "take a while because it takes a long time to make." Banh Xeo takes under 10 minutes in a properly run kitchen. We declined and assumed the rest of our meal would arrive promptly. It didn't. The egg rolls weren't just fried, they were fully baptized in oil. One bite and it felt like chewing on a sponge that lost a fight with the fryer. Then we watched tables seated at least 15 minutes after us receive their food before we did. When we asked about the remainder of our order, we were told it had "just been added" and would take a while. Pho taking 35+ minutes in a Vietnamese restaurant isn't high volume. It's disorganization. The Chef Special was decent. The pho, which should be the backbone of the menu, was underwhelming. Several tables around us had incorrect orders or long delays. The owner circulated, but instead of urgency or accountability, the energy felt inconvenienced. Here's the reality: great atmosphere can draw people in once. Food and leadership bring them back. If you're going because it looks trendy and buzzing, go in with eyes open. The aesthetic might be the star of the room, but the food should be.

This is a 5-star restaurant, but not in a formal, special-occasion sense. It's a more approachable kind of 5: thoughtful, well-executed, and genuinely enjoyable. The kind of place you can go for a relaxed dinner or to host friends from out of town, and still feel confident in the quality of the experience. I went with my husband and a family friend who was visiting, and it was a great setting for catching up. The ambiance strikes a nice balance between polished and comfortable. I especially liked the rich blue tones inside and the overhead lanterns, which give the space a warm, inviting feel. There's also a outdoor patio, though at 96 degrees, we opted to sit inside. I'll admit I didn't do a great job capturing photos, but everything we ordered was excellent. We started with samosas, veg pakora, and beet cutlets (which my husband hadn't had since moving to the U.S. for grad school over a decade ago). We also ordered a mango lassi, the bread basket, malai kofta, balti chicken, and lamb biryani. A few highlights: Portions are generous The spice levels are accurate "medium" and "medium hot" both had a noticeable level of heat, which isn't always the case locally The lamb biryani stood out (my husband said it's the best biriyani he's had in North Carolina) Service was also great. The owner stopped by our table multiple times and was warm and engaging. She even shared how to make a strawberry lassi with our friend, which was a thoughtful touch. One practical note: the restaurant is downtown, and there's a surface parking lot directly next to it that uses ParkMobile, which makes parking straightforward. We're already planning to return.

As of this review they are the #2 most reviewed place in Raleigh only behind the Pit. When we went last week for a farewell dinner it took us 3 weeks to get in. We got turned away 2 other times. The place was always packed and busy yet cozy and calm with great service. Hopefully they relocate or put some of the items from the menu at Pooles. Fuquay could use a nice place like this and it would be way cheaper than Raleigh! Best of luck to the staff in the future as they all look for work.

I went back to Beasley's Chicken & Honey one last time as they close January 25th. Even on a cold,…read morerainy morning, there was a line outside before opening. I understand as if you aren't seated when they open, you can expect a 90-minute to two-hour wait. I was hoping to get the Chicken Pot Pie this time and thought my prior visit was just off. I was thrilled that most of the menu was available. They were just out of the banana pudding. So I got to try the pecan wings I read about with the white sauce. It was so good. Then I got the chicken pot pie and biscuits. The pot pie had old biscuits for the topping, but the creamy mixture with large chunks of chicken was delicious. My biscuits came with honey and were served warm. I left with a slice of the chocolate-caramel-coconut cake, a side salad without onions, and a fried boneless thigh. The salad was made correctly, and the dressing was included. The salad was full of veggies, and the cake was rich and moist. Service was friendly and as soon as I finished my iced tea, another appeared. My wings were brought out first and it was a while for the rest of the meal as the restaurant was full. But they didn't rush me at all. I actually liked the space between the dishes, as I might not have been able to eat it all otherwise. I couldn't finish both biscuits and was even provided a container for the honey. I am going to miss Beasley's, but I'm glad I got a positive experience to remember the restaurant.
