Great find if you like fresh seafood. Got flounder and jumbo shrimp... I have to say although the flounder was good, the jumbo shrimp was the star! So hot and fresh! The hush puppies were the best I've had in a long time, full of flavor and not greasy. Staff was really friendly. Enjoyable restaurant. Went on a mild Saturday so it was pretty busy. Seating is limited, so you kinda have to fight for a picnic table inside. Food was decent. I ordered the crab cakes and they were ok - a little bland for my taste. The hush puppies were delicious. My husband (who doesn't eat seafood) enjoyed the chicken tenders, which is a nice option for those that don't like seafood. The rest of our party ordered fried fish and fried shrimp which they all enjoyed. I learned something new today... I ordered the 2 way combo platter, oysters and catfish. When I received my order, the oysters were barely cooked and the extra moisture was starting to make the crispy breading soggy. I took my plate back up to the counter and expressed my concern. They immediately offered to cook a new batch. She recommended that I request in the future, that I wanted my oysters 'very' crispy. Anyway, the next batch came out perfectly! Years ago we stopped in while at the farmers market and it smelled heavily of bleach, which was a real turn off, so we left. On this visit because of the reviews we decided to try again. We were so grateful to get into the AC on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year for peach day at the market. First we just sat for a while to cool off before ordering food and refreshed with some cool drinks. After going thru the menu I decided a fish sandwich sounded good and my spouse got the oysters. Both looked good, but turned out to be pretty greasy, which didn't sit well given the heat outside. The employees are friendly and are continually tending to the tables to keep them clean and available for the constant flow of market customers. This restaurant is a staple at the Farmers Market. My daughter and I arrived on a Thursday at around noon. There was not really much of a crowd at all. Last time I was here was a weekend and it was much more crowded. We both ordered the lunch plates. The servings were big. I would like to see smaller servings and smaller costs. No one needs to eat that much food. I had the popcorn shrimp. It came with 4 hush puppies and cole slaw AND some fries (which I did not eat at all). A (no potato) option would be great for a lower price. The shrimp was tasty and I enjoyed the slaw and hush puppies. My daughter had the flounder and I thought it tasted very "fishy". Spent the afternoon shopping at the Farmers Market and the smell of the fish kept calling our name, so we stopped in. Currently the restaurant is only offering to go orders with picnic tables outside. So it was two of us and I wasn't quite sure of portion sizes so ordered a combo plate of shrimp and flounder. Honestly the large plate was more than enough for 2 people with 4 pieces of flounder and the whole large section of the tray filled with shrimp. The sides included slaw, fries, and hush puppies. We had enough for a third full meal the next day (minus the fish). Overall everything tasted really good. The fish could have used some seasoning but I am sure their average customer enjoys just the seasoning that comes in the breading. Despite not having more seasoning- the fish was still good! Glad the fish called my name. Next time, I want to try their steamed shrimp with old bay. read more

This is nearby to where I live and right by campus, so I expect to come back regularly as the portions are substantial even given the price... I'm not exactly a small eater and their standard plate and two sides is about two meals for me. Everything so far has been good food wise in my three takeout pickups so far, I do like their chowder (even if it is different than what I grew up with in Boston) and that's going to be a regular order for me. First let me say the nice gentleman at the register gave me such a warm greeting I felt right at home and he's the same guy who made this delicious sweet tea almost as good as my grandma used to make. We got the 3pc or 3 meats, 3 somethings . It was Catfish (clean and breaded just nice), hott diggitty Clam strips, and POPCORRRRRN Skrimp! You get this in the 3pc Styrofoam trays we're all used to, so put on your virtual eye smells and envision :top right corner filled with Cole Slaw (homemade for sure), annnnnd in the left corner we've got some golden brown hushpuppies. The main storage container consists of a bottom layer of fried catfish, topped with a ton of pOP-corn shrimp, and enough clam strips to make this basket a 2-person job. Not at all what I expected and so I'm giving it four stars because the food was much better than I anticipated This is located on site the farmers market and had a line out the door when we got there so I thought it must be good While the line was out the door the order takers work the line and it went really fast so don't let a long line scare you even if it's out the door and she'll probably have your food within 10 or 15 minutes We had several different entrées including the fried shrimp and fried haddock all with french fries coleslaw and hush puppies All of them were outstanding with plenty of fish left over which we successfully reheated the next day I would definitely go back there again when I'm in the mood for a fish fry and recommend this place read more

I'm from Fayetteville, NC and whenever I want some really good seafood I go to Captain Jerry's. I wanted to try to find something similar in the Raleigh area. I found this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn't compare to Captain Jerry's as I'd hoped. I placed the order to go and it was ready as soon as I got there. The food had nice flavors and was seasoned pretty well and it was A LOT of food, so you definitely get your money's worth. However, nothing was crispy. When I see fried seafood like this I expect to have a crunch but that wasn't the case. If the food was crispier I think it'd come close to Captain Jerry's but as of right now, I don't really like soggy/soft fries, shrimp, and catfish. I may give this another try just to see if it may have just been the day that I went, we all have off days. read more
