As a first timer to this place, it definitely took a minute to take in the menu which is huge. The bagels are all displayed, but not all have labels which is confusing unless you really know what you're looking for. Ordered an everything bagel with sausage egg and cheese and a black and white bagel with bacon egg and cheese. You can see them make your bagel sandwich from start to finish, which may or may not be a good thing unless you like microwaved things. The bagels were very doughy and chewy, with very little flavor. The bacon was rubbery (not fresh cooked), as was the sausage. The cheese was plasticky American. The eggs were boring microwaved eggs. If you've ever had a bagel sandwich in an airport, this place will remind you of that. A lot. Their only saving grace was OK customer service, hence the two star review rather than a one star. read more

Maybe it was because I went to this bagel shop with high expectations... but I didnt think there was anything extraordinary about this place. Yes, they have special sides for sale, such as pate, coleslaw, egg salad, etc. But the bagels themselves aren't all that. I prefer Einsteins bagels over Neals. I had a toasted everything bagel with chives cream cheese and a bagel with salmon and cream cheese. The first few bites of the chives cream cheese bagel was good, but I kinda got sick of it after that. The salmon bagel was just ok. I honestly think I can make it better at home. read more

Update: I went back after 2 months because my wife was having a craving for Mother's Day. I spoke with the nicest lady who they must have recently hired and she was great. She even came out to my car when she couldn't find me to give me my order. Hire more people like her please! Old review: Extremely rude people. Honestly probably 3.5 stars. They lose a star because they do not cook. They toast the bagels and you can watch them make everything right in front of you.... including the meat and egg sandwiches which involve microwaving the meat and egg. However, if you stick with a bagel and cream cheese then it'll be more of a 4.5 star. The bagels are done nicely tho I feel they're a little hard and I prefer the ones at Royal Bagel Bakery as well as the cream cheese selection but still a fine bagel. They would easily be 5 stars if they used a stove to cook their food because they have pork roll which is non existent outside of New Jersey and maybe Pennsylvania. read more

I just wanted to say that I stand corrected - they apparently use real eggs that they crack in the morning. I didn't realize! I can't edit my review because it's been too long. Neal's has some of the best bagels in the area. That's it. The rest not so much. We have been going through many management changes. Staff is so unfriendly it's not worth it. Customer Service, LOL no Sandwhiches are horrible. Buy the bagels bring home make your own. Whitefish spread is good. Nova is good. Cold cuts gross. Store could be cleaner. Bagels are large and well made. Over the last few years they have added many non traditional flavors but the old standards are always available. Cream cheese (light and regular) is packaged in house and is excellent. Deli meats and sandwiches look great and seem popular but I have stuck with bagels and cream cheese. read more

Great local place to get a bagel. I always find service with a smile when I visit Neal's Bagels. Their bagels are fresh and delicious. I get a toasted everything bagel with lox spread and I'm never disappointed. My only complaint is that they smear too much spread onto the bagel which leads me to wipe some off. Don't recommend. My first time here and the service was horrible. One member of the staff was rude to me and rolled her eyes TWICE. Once when I gave my bagel order and another when I handed her my card. She was so unnecessarily rude I felt like I had to watch her make my food just to be sure she didn't spit it in. In short: sesame bagel was awful, lox&bagel lacked tomatoes, onions, capers or pickles and was overpriced at $7. In detail: Moved into the area yesterday and went for a search of a good bagel place. Neal's Bagels was a huge disappointment. Ordered Lox & bagel (Nova Scotia & plain cream cheese on sesame bagel) for $6.99 + tax. The bagel itself tasted like stale bread - nothing soft and chewy inside, as I was hoping. Not much salmon went into the sandwich with a $7 price tag. I have to admit, the guy, who prepared it, went to great lengths to ensure, that it was spreaded equally. He also put enough of cream cheese. Unfortunately nothing else went into the bagel! No tomatoes, onions, capers, pickles - nothing. On the top of all it the place is dirty. Having moved from New Jersey this past summer, I had yet to orient my bagel palate to the local area. So, Neal's Bagels, located in a nearby shopping plaza, recently became my first test case to see how well Maryland rolls. Choice number one was a bacon, egg and cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel with a cup of joe. The selections were decent and the gentlemen working here were very friendly, polite and had our orders ready to go fairly quickly. There's only a small window counter inside, so we grabbed one the small tables outside to enjoy the sun. I was very pleased (and relieved) to find the bagel was really good. Not as excellent as some I've had in the past (I hate to compare, but I can't help it), but I was not disappointed with my late morning sandwich. I doubt I'll find anything better or closer than Neal's, so for now, I'm a first-time fan. 3.5 Stars. read more

Their whitefish salad. Oh. My God. This could possibly be the best whitefish salad I've ever had, and I've had my fair share of whitefish salad. The bagels, in my opinion, are better than the ones offered at Bethesda Bagel, but not enough to drive out of your way if you don't live in the area. The long lines are a testament to the quality and bc they do a lot of business you're bound to come across a fresh batch of just cooked bagels (ask them what's hot when you go in there). Found Neal's Bagels thanks to Yelpers and stopped by here to get some breakfast. I had the Belly Lox and Cream Cheese bagel to go. They offered to toast my bagel and also put some tomato slices in the sandwich. Nice touches. The bagel was very good. Nice crust on the outside and chewy inside. It's located across from Quince Orchard HS, so several HSers are frequent customers, as well as the regular visitors like myself. It is a family owned place with some chairs and tables to sit and enjoy your delicious breakfast or lunch. Neal's Bagels is named after the owner's son. Steve, the owner, is really nice and the wife is really funny. Steve is there all the time and I've only seen the wife on weekends. I was introduced to this place by a friend less than a year ago and I continue to go almost all the time. In fact, I am eating a bagel from Neal's as I type! The bagels are made in their shop, on top of their large variety of cream cheese flavors (low-fat included) and several deli salads like tuna, egg, and chicken. It's out of my way before work, but it's worth the commute for a bagel and coffee. Since people are constantly in and out, the coffee pumps can get empty, but the wait for a refill isn't too long. Here's why I love this place: 1. The bagels are two sided so you get a treat from both the top AND the bottom. I've only seen one other bagel shop do this. 2. I loveee light chive. Many places make it with plain cream cheese and chop up chive which is boring... But at Neal's, their light chive is flavored cream cheese with chives in it. You can see them in the back hand rolling the bagels, and by the size of the racks, they must make A LOT of bagels everyday. Good crunch on the outside, soft on the inside. Their presentation could be better, when they use cream cheese from an industrial size tub and it literally says "acme" on the side, maybe try a different set up. And they only have one person helping customers in the morning, glad I came in when I did, because my order of two bagels with cream cheese to go created a little line. Unfortunately I've had to go on a low-carb relatively low-salt diet which is why I'm no longer a regular at Neal's. They're a great little gem in a kind of boring strip mall. Good place to go for a bagel sandwich, very friendly to talk to. They have a great selection of bagels, including a pumpkin bagel near halloween (basically an egg bagel, but with a very interesting color) and fun flavors like blueberry. I also enjoy their corned beef which they make themselves. Ok, I'll tell you a secret which I never would if I wasn't on a diet that makes it impossible to eat a dozen bagels a week. Ready? Show up around 5pm (closing time) on a weekday. Order a dozen bagels and ask them if they'll 'throw a few extra ones in?' I have gotten around 15-16 bagels this way for the same price. However, I did go out of my way to chat with the owner and his wife and become friends with them before I started getting freebies so your mileage might vary. Even their regular deal of baker's dozen is still pretty good. read more

Pretty good bagels for the price and freshness. My favorites from them are the blueberry and cinnamon raisin. Their cinnamon raisin bagel isn't jam packed with raisins which is good if you aren't a raisin fan. You can't beat $4 for a bag of day old bagels. Though they seem to mold faster than bagels bought from the grocery store, so if you buy in a baker's dozen eat them quickly! read more

Neal's has the best bagels around. Weekends are always busy so get here early. The bagels have a nice outer crust and a chewy inside. It is the perfect texture. No matter what the occasion is, I always get an extra bakers dozen to keep in the freezer. I put them in freezer bags and take one out whenever I am in the mood for a good bagel. My favorite is the sesame but all the flavors are great. The black and white can get a little dry so it is not my favorite although it has a really nice flavor of pumpernickel. The cream cheese selection is good. I love the lox spread and always get a toasted sesame with extra lox spread. Yum. The spread lasts over a week in the fridge ( if it isn't eaten before then). If you like a good quality bagel, this is the place to go. I would give this place 5 stars however, it could use a good cleaning. read more

Very decent bagels. Tried two of their bagels this morning 1) Everything bagel - Fresh out of the oven - not toasted. The bagel was crispy on the outside and warm/chewy on the inside. 2) Rainbow bagel - toasted. My kids loved this - it was a plain bagel but with some sweetness. All in all a fantastic experience. I used to love this spot- not sure if management changed but I really just got charged 4 dollars for a piece of Turkey. Because non of the meats in the "egg and cheese" breakfast sandwiches were non-pork, I asked if I could replace with Turkey because they had no non-pork options. I initially was charged 15 dollars for a egg, cheese and Turkey in a bagel. Which was ridiculous. After explaining that it's just a matter of replacing meat in the egg bacon and cheese, she took the price down to 9 dollars, still charging the 4$ for the Turkey. The workers were really rude, which is surprising because I've never had anything but good experiences here. There is no need to be aggressive when you're trying to charge me 15$ for a bagel and I'm trying to understand why you're charging me for two sandwiches for a slice of Turkey? Neal's Bagels and Five Star, the Loyalty Program that cost you a customer. I have been going to this bagel shop for at least 15 years if not longer. Today I went in with plans to use my loyalty points for part of my order only to find out that even though the reward said it was for a bagel and cream cheese with a small coffee, it was only available if you got plain cream cheese. I showed it to the young man that was helping me out and he said sorry and proceeded to ring it up. Please note, they have already updated this on their rewards program to say plain cream cheese, but it certainly did not say that on my visit. Disgusting. Ordered a plain bagel with one egg and Taylor ham. Being a jersey girl I know there is no comparison between a jersey bagel and Maryland bagel. But the bagel was not the problem.... this bagel shop cooked there Taylor ham in the microwave. Then I watched them cook the EGG in the microwave as well. I brought it home and attempted to eat it.... well it tasted like a microwaveable meal. I then gave the egg to my dog she was more interested then I was. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese- more like a plain bagel with 3 poppy seeds and 2 sesame seeds on the entire bagel. If I wanted a plain bagel, I would have ordered one. There was barely any cream cheese on the bagel at all. Minimal- as if they scraped the bottom of the container because they did not want to have to open a new one. Extremely let down and disappointed to be honest- especially when you are used to other bagel shops that give you an everything bagel with cream cheese since that's what you actually in fact, ordered. read more

I wasn't looking for anything extravagant just a solid bacon, egg, and cheese. Once I ordered out comes a jug of eggs that was poured into a dish then placed in the microwave. Then there went the bacon into the microwave. And then one typical piece of cheese. If I wanted this low quality of a meal I could've done it at home. Mine are better. I don't microwave my food. Honestly McDonald's is probably a better option right across the street. My first bite tasted like it was fresh out of the microwave. Absolute garbage.
