I wasn't looking for anything extravagant just a solid bacon, egg, and cheese. Once I ordered out comes a jug of eggs that was poured into a dish then placed in the microwave. Then there went the bacon into the microwave. And then one typical piece of cheese. If I wanted this low quality of a meal I could've done it at home. Mine are better. I don't microwave my food. Honestly McDonald's is probably a better option right across the street. My first bite tasted like it was fresh out of the microwave. Absolute garbage. I do like Neal's Bagels - but not for their bagels. I really love their chopped chicken liver. It's got a very deep flavor, and is very smooth. I go back often just for the chopped liver on bread with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Wow, it's good. It's also close to my home so it makes it easy to get my fix. The store itself is small, and while there is a table outside to sit and eat, it gets really full very quickly. Come on a Saturday or Sunday morning when they are making fresh bagels and the smell is wonderful. read more

The location is very small and with a single register it can take some time to get your food. But the wait is worth it because the bagels are fresh, the sanwiches are overstuffed and I have liked everything I tried here. Neal's is the knock down champ of the bagel world in the Gaithersburg area. Nice, rich, thick bagels that let you actually bite down into them. Seriously, it's worth leaving your cozy apartment at 7:22 am, driving 20 minutes, mingling with morning traffic, waiting 3 minutes and then driving back home to enjoy it. Am particularly fond of their "Flats" - they squash their bagels flat allowing them to have more toppings (yum!) & adding a crispness that is a neat alternative to their regular bagels. I will never do business here again!!!!!! I stopped by Neal's Bagel to pick up some Bagels for the guys in the office since we all had to work Christmas Day. I called to verify that they were open since most places are closed on Christmas Day (So I will give them 3 Stars for that). However, after arriving there I ordered a couple of Bagels and the guy at the register was Straight Out Rude. I don't know about any anyone else but I have for my Money & Receipt to be tossed at me when I'm holding my hands out to receive my change, I thought it was all in my head when he gave me my change, but when he repeated himself with tossing my receipt on the counter also..... I clearly knew it was not in my head. Regardless of how good the bagels are customer service is a big part of my experience. So from here on I'll have to pass on Neal's Bagels!!!!!!!!! read more

I hired Neal's Bagels to cater a breakfast event for 150 people at Lockheed Martin in DC yesterday. I was BEYOND happy with the service, presentation, and quality of the food. The bagels and muffins were so moist and delicious, and the compliments kept coming. Without a doubt, the price was way more affordable than other catering companies that I have ordered from previously and I got much more food for the money. We were previously loyal customers of Royal Bagel Bakery in Germantown, but ever since new owners took over, it's not the same. And we won't go back. So it was time to find a new bagel shop. We headed to Neal's with moderate expectations, based on internet reviews. I was happy to find a hole in the wall, no frills bagelry, that looked authentic and had no frou-frou flavors (orange, cranberry, and other weird flavors are not bagel flavors!). Service was a bit slow, but it was New Years Day and they were clearly short-staffed. But the owner was polite and friendly and got my order together quickly, so I can't really complain. The place isn't the cleanest, but is any NY Deli really clean? No. And don't plan on eating your bagel here unless it's nice outside, as the "seating area" is really just a table with 2 chairs. The bagels are a nice size, dense and just a tad chewy, and have toppings on both sides. And the price is just right. 99 cents a piece, or $10.99 for a baker's dozen. They also offer an array of cream cheeses, many of which are lite, so that's always an added bonus. We will continue to frequent this little shop for the delicious bagels. read more

Bagels are hand rolled & delish. I love their tuna & chicken salad. Also delish. Steve & Polly have run the store for many years. (Named Neal's b/c their son is Neal) Very nice people. Sold business to--coincidentally -- a man named Neil. He is also a very nice man. My husband -- a reserve quiet man -- went to Neal's at the end of the day & came home with more bagels than he asked for. Neil threw extras in b/c it was the end of the day. Neil also chatted with my husband, a kindness that did not go unnoticed by my husband. Neal's is always busy especially on the weekend. The best part is the bagels and I guess that's what really counts but there's usually a line and the owner and other employees are not exactly quick. I will call ahead but it's a crap shoot getting someone to pick up on the other end. Dunkin Donuts is right across the street and gets you through the long line much faster. There's also the grocery store and my toaster at home. I prefer to support small business but not if it means waiting a hour for bagels. read more

Really good quality, they load their bagels up nicely, and I've never had a bad experience there in a year and a half of going there! Just had a salt bagel from Neal's at our son's home, who had bought Neal's bagels for out of town guests brunch. I found the bagels large size which is good, the salt bagel very tasty, the cinnamon raisin bagels definitely containing raisins, but all in all not very crunchy. The lox that our son bought there did look good though and tasty pretty well. If I lived closer to Gaithersburg I would return there, their bagels are tasty (and perhaps better than Bagel City in Rockville, which are small). However, my favorite bagel place in the Washington area still is Ize's on Rockville Pike, on the left side when going north, just before Old Georgetown Pike/Arbys/Popeyes. Their bagels are crunchy and tasty, with excellent whitefish/chicken salad/tuna salad spreads, and fast service. Perhaps you could say that they put too much spread in their bagels! Over and over I see repeat customers eating there, one couple even every day! read more

We order from Neals Bagels during our busy season and order for smaller events as well. Neal is prompt with arrival and delivery. His bagels are always so soft but with just that little hard crust in some places. They are a favorite at our company. I think Neal's bagels are excellent. Also am fond of their chicken salad, tuna, and corned beef (though the corned beef *can be a little tough). The thing I do not appreicate is that the servers do not always wear gloves. And, sometimes only one glove. If they're touching the food with the bare hand, one glove does no good! Granted, there are those customers who don't seem to care; but I do know of some (ex-customers) who will no longer patronize Neal's for their unsanitary practices. read more
