One of my favorite spots in ATL! Food is A1, service is wonderful - servers are so kind and helpful, you can tell they really know the menu. Went with codfish fritters as an appetizer this time, and they were so good, not over fried, yummy, and filled with fresh ingredients. And the sweet/spicy ish dip is a nice addition! Now, I judge every Caribbean/Jamaican spot by its curry goat, and theirs was really good. Taste was the highlight but the goat meat was too bony (less mutton-like) so was hard to enjoy overall. To start off there wasn't any parking available So we had to get dropped off in order to make our reservations. We were sitting in the upstairs area. This place is an infusion of Jamaican food. And I got curry chicken with rice& peas, steamed cabbage, and sweet plantains. I thought the food was good, as previously stated it's not as good as a mom and pop shop but it def hit the spot. My husband and I came for Sunday dinner as my son had an event at TopGolf half a mile down the road. I made a reservation for 5:15 pm just to be on the safe side. Staff was extremely friendly and we were checked on throughout our dinner. We started with the cornbread with guava butter. It was so tasty! We were leaving a studio podcast down and needed to stop for water so we stopped at the store and as we were leaving we noticed @NeGrilATL and my friend Byron said that sounds like a Jamaican spot. We all look at eachother and says Jamaican sounds good lol The restaurant looked closed but we stopped to make sure and it was actually open. The interior is very elegant and welcoming and the service was great. Our server gave us great recommendations including the shrimp cornbread toast which will literally blow your mind. By far one of the most flavorful dishes I've had in a long time, I'm super impressed. If i would improve anything it would be to make the wings more tender and don't reuse them after a day if it was already cooked well done and the rice could be a little better. I used to LOVE them when they were at the Forest ghost kitchen and original location. I ordered on Uber eats twice since the new location. The first time - I walked in to pick up my order and they told me I had to go to the side window IN the rain. I understand the restaurant is smaller, but as a customer, I feel like they could have just passed the order over. I gave them another chance and they ran out of pasta which is fine. However, my uber delivery driver was waiting for about 15 minutes before they told her. She still delivered the other item but communication is key! The jerk wings are always amazing, spicy but good. The oxtail pasta when it's available is pretty good as well when it's consistent! Again, when they were located at the ghost kitchen 10/10!! We have had the worst restaurant experiences in Atlanta this past week and NegrilATL took the cake. The delay, lack of customer service, and drop in food quality in this establishment is just disappointing. Especially since I had such a great experience at the Brooklyn location. Firstly, it took 40 minutes to receive our appetizers, one order of jerk wings and an order of ackee and Saltfish egg rolls. And they were COLD! Normally this would've be an automatic "thank you, we're paying for what we have received and we are leaving." However we'd been at a conference all day and it was too close to a time when most restaurants were closing. We decided to extend some extra patience or risk not eating at all that night. Much to our dismay, the entrees (coco salmon and whole snapper) took an additional 45 mins and they too, were COLD! Day two in Atlanta and this downtown restaurant scene is not looking good. We came to celebrate my grandmothers 80th and my family is a picky, opinionated bunch so we decided to just eat Jamaican Food (like we don't eat this everyday- LOL. With that in mind we knew to visit Negril because it's one of the few places that will provide the atmosphere to celebrate an occasion like that. The service was Great! The waiter was patient with my family and gave answers to questions. My family is Old School and cook everyday, and if they don't cook they cook something that's quick. So when eating out they have questions and he was very patient. He also allowed us to split the check which was a plus. The menu has typical Jamaican Fare and a few items that are fused with American favorites like wings, pasta and grits.... In all we enjoyed ourselves. For constructive criticism I would serve wine in a wine glass especially with the ambiance of the restaurant. My mother was taken back when they brought the wine in a rinsed tumbler. That's really my only con. They do offer brunch, so this is a popular restaurant for Brunch Vibes and Sunday Funday. They also have a large event space upstairs that can accommodate your event and host parties during holiday weekends in Atlanta. Until this most recent trip I hadn't visited in years but from what I remember and based on other recent reviews they get packed fast! I was slightly disappointed that they didn't have their liquor license yet, but I do understand that they just moved into this new location. Also, SHOUT OUT TO FOR HAVING FREE PARKING! I'm so tired of these ATL restaurants charging for "valet" or self parking on property they already oversee. I was especially surprised that when I asked for peppa sauce, they brought out REAL peppa sauce in a saucer cup. Came here for a birthday dinner. They were very understaffed to start so service was extremely slow. I sat down at the table around 7:45, I did not receive my entree until 10:26. My oxtail hardly had any whole bones just broken up meat. My jerk wings were literally charred, not jerked, charred. At the end of the dinner one check was dropped and they said they could only take 5 cards for a table of 12. The waitress was extremely pushy trying to say we could just split it evenly. They use the same handheld devices all other restaurants use. These places have no problem going through and allowing people to pay for what they ordered. Definitely not worth the hype. The restaurant is decorated beautifully inside, but the experience didn't match the atmosphere. I had a 9:00 pm reservation for two and arrived at 8:55 pm. It still took a while for us to be seated and greeted, even though the only occupied table was a large party. There were two servers working; one was handling the large group alone while the other assisted the rest of the empty dining room. The server assisting the large party is the one who ended up seating us. The tables for two are noticeably small, and the plates are oversized, so the table became crowded quickly. If you plan to order multiple items, be prepared for very limited space. We ordered the oxtail stew with a side of macaroni and cheese, the curry chicken, and the jerk wings. The food took a while to come out, and when it did, the oxtail stew was mostly bones. The jerk wings were just okay, but not even warm when they arrived, which was disappointing for the price point. The curry chicken wasn't memorable either. When the waiter asked how everything was, I mentioned that the oxtail stew was mostly bones. He went to check with the kitchen and came back to say they had served me the "last bit" of the oxtail, that's why it was nearly all bones. Hearing that only made the situation worse. If a dish is nearly gone or mostly scraps, that should absolutely be communicated before serving it, not after the customer complains. He offered to give me brown stew chicken to go, but at that point I wasn't interested in trying anything else. We made a reservation and did not arrive close to closing, so serving leftover portions was surprising and disappointing. We tried to hail a passing employee to inform them it appeared no server was assigned to our table but he did not hear us. Finally a server noticed that no one else was serving us, and she came over to apologize and seemed frustrated that either the host hadn't notified the staff of our being seated or perhaps we were placed in an area servers weren't working. Also it would have been nice to have used to the time to peruse the menu but we weren't given any by the host and oddly there were no QR code menus on any of the tables. So not the best start to begin a business meal with a dead 10 minutes of no attention. Alas, our server, Deja continued to provide good service to us. She made excellent cocktail recommdations. Definitely order the Sprtiz Thing if you enjoy light alcohol + bubbles - perfect for midday. My guest ordered passion fruit salmon and I ordered the curry chicken. The food was lovely, and we also had jerk shrimp skewers for a starter. Because I've been before, I probably should have gone with the jerk wings which never disappoint. Definitely worth a trip. Finally, we were allowed to taste two bottles and decided on one. For dinner, I ordered chicken pumpkin soup. I didn't enjoy it. I couldn't enjoy it because it was too spicy for me. I wanted to give the staff the benefit of the doubt. They appeared to be short staffed but the lack of care didn't sit right with me. No one greeted us, we waited by the door for over 30 min before someone addressed us. We eventually were seated and the waitress on call was not hospitable at all. Not a "thank you for your patience" or "I apologize for the wait". There was a little attitude, probably from the frustration of the short staff. But this is a review about my experience. There is automatic of 20% gratuity for a table of 2 guests or more (which is basically everyone, in my opinion). There is also no tap water. Water will cost per bottle as will cans of any carbonated beverages at a significant markup. The food, while exceptional, was pricey and the wait staff seemed to only be interested in parties ordering a lot of food. We ordered the large tropical mimosa carafe and I think they may have dropped a very tiny bit of juice in there because it was very heavy on the champagne LOL not complaining we were able to get a good for maybe five glasses each it's a great steal We ordered the ackee and salt fish spring rolls for our appetizer and oh my goodness they were very a good I was pleasantly surprised how well it paired with the shell of the spring roll and then it comes with a sweet and sour a dipping of sauce definitely recommend that appetizer For our means we got the oxtaill Pasta bowl which comes with oxtail in the middle that is a boneless and an alfredo pasta that is super rich and creamy and pickled onions and tomatoes on top.
