Our waitress was super friendly, and since it was our first time, she took her time explaining the menu and answering our questions, which we really appreciated. The food was excellent across the board. Everything we ordered was flavorful, and even the sides stood out. I highly recommend the yams and the mac and cheese, both were good. We started with the gumbo, which was tasty and for our mains we had the oxtail and fish. Both were cooked well and full of flavor. The ambiance was another highlight. The vibe was relaxed and cool, with good R&B music playing in the background. This made the whole experience feel enjoyable and laid-back. Recently went here to pick up a to go order bc I was craving catfish. Decided to revisit this place as it has been a few years since I've been. Pick up: it use to be that you pulled up to the side door and someone would bring you order. Idk if that has changed but after waiting, then calling and being placed in a long, I just went inside and got it myself. Food: the portion size of the catfish was underwhelming for the price. I use to get 2-3 large fillets and this time I got 3 small ones. It comes with two sides, so I ordered - The mac n cheese was okay. I've def had better from them. You use to be able to add candied yams as a side but their menu has changed and it's not one of the included sides any more. The second side was cabbage and it wasn't really seasoned well. We dined at Roc South at about 2 o'clock on a Wednesday, upon entering, there was a line of delivery drivers and over the phone order patrons that were waiting for their food. This was a bit disheartening due to the fact that several of them made complaints during the duration of our wait about how long they were waiting for their food. We were seated after about two minutes of waiting. The hostess + our waitress were both very kind and accommodating being that we had a toddler in our party. The restaurant was mostly empty, but it took more than a while for food and drinks to come out. However when the food did arrive at the table, it was well seasoned, very fresh and the portions were a decent size. I can see this Restaurant being a good pie for girls night out, we didn't order any alcoholic drinks so I can't speak to that but it's the same aesthetic as most Atlanta restaurants. We were celebrating a birthday so we ordered a lot. We got a Dusse flight (mango, peach, strawberry, and blueberry). The drinks tasted great and were quite strong. We ordered two appetizers (lemon pepper wings and salmon bites). The lemon pepper wings have honey and they are wet. The wings taste amazing. Roc South was rocking some good R&B music upon entering, always a plus for me! The decor is classy with shiny chandeliers and bright decorative lamps. We were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation. Shout out to our server AMANI C. she was very polite, attentive, and did not miss a beat! I love how she made sure our table stayed clean and kept the drinks flowing. Now the food let me break it down. Appetizers; Salmon bites great, but those Honey Lemon Pepper Wings will have you licking your fingers! Entrees; The Whole Snapper was perfectly seasoned & cooked just right! Went to Rock South around 6 PM on a Wednesday and got seated right away which was a nice start. We ordered the Fried Salmon Bites as an appetizer and they came out really quick. They were hot fresh and crispy but still juicy. For the main course I had the Fried Chicken Wings with mac and cheese, collard greens ,and candied yams. The wings were seasoned really well and fried to a perfect crisp. The mac and cheese was good and creamy and the collard greens had great flavor. The candied yams were way too sweet for my liking. My friend got the Blackened Salmon Alfredo pasta. The alfredo could have used a bit more flavor but it was still enjoyable and the salmon was juicy and cooked well. The only downside was the wait for the entrees. It took a while for our food to come out after the appetizer but the restaurant was starting to fill up. Also the restaurant was overall clean but we did have to deal with a few gnats and flies at our table which was a little annoying. Food was really good!!! Definitely hit the southern soul food craving. The fry on everything is yummy and really crispy, while the meat inside stays juicy and tender. The stew that the oxtail comes in is so delicious I was dipping everything into it. The restaurant is cute but kind of brightly lit -- I would appreciate more of a romantic vibe. I had very high hopes for this restaurant. We were originally going to make reservations. However after seeing the $25 per person cancellation fee (we had a party of five) we risked walk in seating. The place was not busy and we were greeted nicely and seated immediately. We ordered two appetizers which arrived quickly, the salmon bites and seafood rolls. Both had an unusually strong fish taste and very salty. All of our entrées arrived timely and looked very appetizing. Unfortunately, almost every dish was very very salty. They all tasted like they had the same seasoning (slap your momma maybe?). The side dishes (Mac&Cheese, collard greens and sweet potato bites) were all very tasty though. The biggest shock came with the bill. Now I know the menu states there is an 18% service fee which we expected but our server told us that fee does not go to the server. A tip was expected on top of this service fee!! What is the point of a service fee? The posted menu price should be what you pay. read more

I've been to Roc South a number of times and this was the first time on Saturday night that I've visited that it was not crowded. Immediately I knew my experience would be different. We had reservations so we did not have to wait long. PLEASE MAKE RESERVATIONS. There was a small wait to receive cocktails after ordering but the food came out quickly. The food was amazing. I ordered a veggie plate which consisted of cabbage, mac n cheese, candied yams, and mashed potatoes. The only thing that could have been better was the wait staff. It was not as crowded but there were gaps in service of us needed water and receiving condiments. We had to ask for condiments three times and never received them. I was disappointed that they did not have the salted caramel cheesecake. The vibe is always nice at Roc South. The aesthetic is not too casual and not bourgeois. I visited Atlanta and wanted to try out some local eateries, and this spot fit the vibe perfectly with its soul food focus. The restaurant has a laid back atmosphere and was very clean. I dined during dinner, and while the entrées and drinks were on the pricier side, it wasn't unreasonable--just something to be prepared for. The food came out quickly. I ordered the oxtails, and the portion size was generous. They were a bit salty for my taste, but still flavorful and enjoyable overall. I really liked the dining experience. After having this on my visit list for ages, we made it this past Sunday. I recommend placing reservations on Resy for your party. Arriving early Sunday is the ticket to avoid the crowds. The hostess sat us - initially at a table by the kitchen so we asked to be up front near the main dining room. I guess young people don't know the history of sitting Black people by the kitchen? Our server was so bubbly and nice. We were just celebrating friendship and thanking my friends for helping to plan my birthday party. We had an appetizer, cocktails and brunch. They have lots of options and the prices are standard for these times. In my photos you'll see the entrees we tried - cheesecake French toasts, chicken & waffles, shrimp and grits. The location is easy to miss if you're driving fast on Buford Highway. It's next door to Lips (Drag Queen theater) and an auto repair place not far from Druid Hills. The decor is relaxed and it's not stuffy. The bar was filled with people and the music was a nice soundtrack in the background but not too loud that we couldn't hear each other. Overall, I wasn't blown away. Presentation was excellent but quality and taste were average. My waffle was pretty mushy, not warm and needed to be more toasted. The fried chicken was decent. The grits needed a spoon because they were thin and runny. They French toast was like plain wheat bread slices - nothing special like Texas toast or fresh baked bread. The cocktails were the stars of the show. I may return for a dinner date and try something else but brunch wasn't memorable. Final note: Parking is on site for a tip with Ricky. I was visiting from out of town and someone recommended this place so I gave it a try on Christmas Eve. Understanding that this is a holiday to service was truly terrible. It was a slow night, but there seem to be no sort of standard for service. The appetizers (seafood dip brussels sprouts), catfish and fried chicken were pretty good and decent portions. The yams were extremely sweet and not edible, the Black Eyed Peas were pretty much soup. We had to beg for silverware and drink refills. Didn't even think about it. The yams were 'meh' some were harder than others and the Mac and cheese was a no-go. I had to ask to have it warmed in the microwave. Don't know how they did it. But it came bk hot. It was hard and on the verge of being completely cold. Bland/cheese sauce was overly cheesy. No refills on drinks outside of tea. And gratuity is included. I've been here a few times...years ago when it was pretty hard to get a reservation at that time. Food was much better. I'll say my same disclaimer...it could be the chef that day...don't know. The main dining area felt a bit cramped, even at a table set for two. Regarding the food, the quality was good. The fried chicken wings and yams were excellent, and the shrimp and grits were also a hit. My only critique is that the mac & cheese wasn't as tasteful and our drinks took a while to come, it came out after our dinner. my spouse wanted to try a new spot in Atlanta and saw several Tiktok videos on ROC, so we tried it ... my spouse is from Mississippi and I am from New York, so definitely a blend of food taste buds and critics. We visited for lunch, approx 4pm. The location had approx. 10 cars in the parking lot and probably 25 persons inside at this time (around 8 tables plus a few at the bar). They were not overall busy, so a perfect time to try it out. The service was somewhat slow, but it appeared there was only one server for all tables. This is not a complaint, she did a great job interacting when she did. For food we ordered the chicken plate (wings, 2 sides) and the catfish plate (also, 2 sides). For sides we both got the same (old trusty!), yams and greens. My spouse thought the sides were very 'basic' and lacked flavor. The greens tasted as if from frozen or a can with no cooking skill attempted (I am from NY and can cook better greens!). The hot honey chicken was very good! I've never left a yelp review ever but this food now they have I just had too. I've been coming here for over 10 years, there food is not the same and has really went down low. The turkey wings were dry and when I say zero seasoning I mean zero. Probably never tasted turkey wings that bad. The greens were very bitter n nasty also. Please hire different cooks. Since Chef Harper left this place is not the same. I should have known when I looked n the parking lot, no cars and only 5 people inside the whole place. I've never seen Rocs this empty. Quick review... everything was great but I was highly disappointed with the "Southern Fried Catfish" because it's not catfish it's Swai. For a person who cooks catfish often I immediately knew it wasn't the real deal. If you're gonna sell Swai sell it, but don't say it's catfish. I would not go back for this reason alone as it is false advertising and I'm paying market price for cheap fish. I can't eat shellfish so I was hoping to at least enjoy catfish. read more
