We had a very nice lunch there. Despite the menu saying that the lunch specials were from 2 to 3 PM, we ordered one of each of the two chicken dishes available for lunch and enjoyed both. Both came with flavored rice and a side of vegetables, and we ordered a side of fried green tomatoes which were delicious. They also had a good selection of beer including Jamaican beer at very decent prices. Bonus. If I lived around here I would come more often and experience more of their menu. read more

I know here in the U.S., Oxtail don't get as much love as a ribeye or a porter house steak. But the recipe here stays true to its Jamaican roots. The ambience of this little restaurant takes you back to the Caribbean. The employees were very sweet, but slow and confused. My order came out with double rice, I asked for double cabbage and no rice. However; once I received what I had ordered, it may possibly have been the best goat curry and cabbage I ever tasted. The goat curry was tender and melted in your mouth. Goat is very difficult to cook properly and the flavor of the goat was perfect. The cabbage was so unbelievable fantastic, it was cooked in a great spicy broth. Unfortunately I had to wait for the plantains to finish cooking, so they rushed the cook so the plantains I had were not cooked properly. However, my friend also had plantains and they were cooked perfectly. All and all maybe I would totally go back to this restaurant it was very good. I've been to Negril Spice a few times and I usually leave feeling perfectly satisfied. So far I've had the oxtail, curry goat, curry chicken, and the jerk chicken upon my couple of visits here. Everything has been great but I'd rank the jerk chicken and oxtail up at the top. Today for lunch, I went with the medium jerk chicken platter. Thinking it was going to be a relatively "medium" sized plate I also ordered a beef patty. The patty was great as the pastry was a bit sweet, but the meat and spices inside gave it a spicy flavor that was delicious. The medium plate ended up being a ton of food (nothing to complain about here) as it comes with rice and beans, cabbage, and plantains. The jerk chicken itself was exactly what I was looking for. Plenty of spice to give it a kick, and the meat just fell off the bones. The medium special runs about $8.50 so it's a great bang for the buck. Every time I've been here the service has been very pleasant and friendly. The other times I've come, it's usually after indulging in a few brews at the nearby watering holes, so it's a great meal to finish off the night! read more

I'm going to be generous with this rating for now and give it 3 stars since I did enjoy my own dish. Apparently the posted hours mean nothing because my group got there at 12pm on a Sunday and we had to wait 30-40 minutes for them to even let us in and sit down. Then we had to wait some more for them to actually take our orders. Then we found out they didn't have many of the menu items available yet. No curry chicken, which was disappointing to many people in our group who had planned to order it. We ordered stew chicken, jerk chicken, and jerk pork. I think I was the only one who actually enjoyed my meal because I was the only one who ordered jerk pork. The jerk chicken we got did not look like the jerk chicken we saw in other yelp photos and it is not the jerk chicken we are used to. It was more like grilled chicken with some type of barbecue-like sauce on top. Some of my companions didn't really care for their stew chicken and didn't eat it all. I can only go by what they told me since I didn't try it myself. Over all, the service isn't great and the restaurant was lacking many things. Great Veggie Plate! Nice people! Vegetarian here. I ordered the veggie plate with jerk spice. It was awesome! The veggie chunks appear to be a texturized soy situation. They are spicy and chewy but not weirdly so. The rice is flavored really well and the cabbage is perfect. The staff took their time to walk me through the menu and proactively set me straight when I tried to order a side that had meat. I do not recommend. None of my food was seasoned from the oxtails to the rice and beans or cabbage. I waited patiently for almost an hour if not longer at the restaurant as my food was bein prepared to get home and find out my food was seasonless. I will never eat from here again. I ordered site unseen from uber eats. I ordered my go to stew chicken. First I will say this food does not have authentic jamaican flavor. It was lacking in the flavor department. I will go from worst to best. Absolute worst was the sorrel ginger which was not fresh it was bottled, and it had a stale chemical after taste undrinkable. My other least favorite was the yam sweet potato. It was just boiled no real flavor. And it was white. Next the cabbage was ok as far as preparation just missing flavor red flag because there was sweat peas in the cabbage it just needed any flavor at all if you try it bring your own seasonings. Next the rice and peas was blah I did order the extra gravy and they got it right. I was looking for the coconut flavor. It never showed up. The chicken was yummy and very tender cooked perfect it just didn't taste like stew chicken. Missed the authentic Jamaican flavors. Next up i really enjoyed the fried dumplings I ate all three on site. The mac and cheese was really good as well. The portion size was great, just the chicken I feel like they didn't give enough compared to the amount of rice. The restaurant overall was ok. Just lacking in the authenticity department Its like the chef was not really from JA like an American who never had real Jamaican food. I am very much on the fence about this place right now. I ordered something simple to begin with since this was a new restaurant for me....12 wings and a medium chicken curry to share with family. The food was awful! Way too much salt and the curry was far from what I expected. Besides everything tasted old. The meat wasn't fresh and had the texture of something that was in the freezer for many months. I only stopped there because I was at the post office and had been running errands all day. I wasted about $40 on freeze dried old meat and got more than my annual dose of sodium in one bowl of curry that I was only able to take a bite or two from before tossing it. When thinking of vacations for rest and relaxation, I came up with the idea of Jamaica. Bry's family has spoken about Negril and its beauty. Thusly on a day trip to Lake Monroe I spotted this small eatery named Negril Spice. I'm not fully acquainted with Jamaican cuisine but I've had curry goat on several occasions; Jamaican culinary style. Upon entering, the decor was filled with island pride- black, yellow and green everywhere, along with bob Marley posters, as well as Marilyn Monroe and a religious poster. I believe the interior was a reflection of the owners artistry, as well as Jamaican icons featured in the USA- and it reflected greatly. The music was island time and it wasn't long until a waitress came to take my order. I ordered the curry goat with cabbage and red beans and rice, and plantains. To drink I had the Carribbean King Green tea with Ginger. The cabbage came with green peas and carrots as well as some spices, the red beans and rice were covered with plantains and curry goat sauce and finally the piece de resistance- the curry goat. I'm a lover of all things curry, yet there is a difference between curry used in Indian cuisine and curry in Jamaican cuisine. Jamaican curry is less pronounced and less spicy but more robust- depending upon the curry you order. This one looked to be the green curry which had a very mild flavor with few spices. Perhaps different regions season their foods differently across Jamaica. Perhaps. I've had several other curries from Jamaica, and I really wished that there would've been more flavor because the meat was so tender and the curry and oil consistency looked so delicious, I expected more. Everything else; the cabbage and green peas with the red beans and rice, were very tasty- and I highly dislike beans. I became a beanliever today. Overall I believe there's so much potential for this to be a place in the Sanford hidden gem system, so I'm going to try the other foods as well, such as the jerk chicken. I fell in love with Jerk spices on my first trip to Jamaica. So anytime I am on vacation I look for it. We were down in Sanford for a Hurricane Party music festival and Negril Spice was a short walk away. The reviews said service can be a little slow but it is worth the wait. They do have daily specials including soups so pay attention. My hubby ordered the jerk chicken, I was torn between the goat curry and crab. The crab was 6 for $12.99 and it was an extra $10 for corn, shrimp, potatoes & a boiled egg. I just stuck with the 6, jerk style & spicy!! The chicken came out first & took about 30 minutes to hit the table which is just enough time to finish a Red Stripe. It looked amazing! My little crabs came out soon after. They were the size of gumbo crabs, small & about the size if my palm. They were split in half, swimming in a delicious broth of spices, onions, carrots & a habanero! I pulled the habanero out and got to work. Since we were in a hurry, I ripped off the legs, the larger claw legs were worth cracking into. It was a messy endeavor but worth it if you don't mind. I seriously had juices running down my chin! The fastest way to eat it was crushing the carapace down and squeezing the meat out as I slurped it out. Yeah. Probably about as fun as watching a veloceraptor eat & half as romantic. But it was so good so if you're a crab lover, order this when you have time to enjoy it. If you're running short on time, order the normal menu. The jerk comes with rice & peas, boiled cabbage & mixed veggies, plantains and all of that is delicious! This place just opened up in downtown Sanford and I hope it's here to stay! Located in the old Angel's Soul Food spot, it's a small, modest restaurant, but incredibly clean and welcoming. We did take out and the service on the phone and in person was kind and helpful. We ordered the curry chicken and oxtail along with some beef patties. The portions were quite large, easily enough for two people to eat for dinner with plenty of left overs for another meal. There are a lot of beans and rice, but still a good amount of protein. Each meal also came with sautéed cabbage, carrots, corn, peas and sweet plantains. The oxtails were small, but plenty, tender and cooked in a deep rich brown sauce. The curry chicken was super juicy and falling off the bone. Both were delicious and full of flavor with prices that can't be beat. All in all it was a great experience and we hope to order from them again soon. The only negative things were being out of the jerk ribs and stew beef, but we hope to try them in the near future. I live in this city and decided to stay locally for a bite to eat! The other half of my family is caribbean and so we wanted to eat authentic for the evening and found this nice spot right in the middle of downtown Sanford! The place wasn't busy and this was our 1st time here! We ordered a patty as an appetizer but they were out, beef and chicken etc. My husband is a pescetarian (he eats seafood but no other meat) and so he ordered a seafood item. It actually took him 3 tries because they were out of their menu items. I love oxtail and I was really looking forward to it and they were out of that item also but they had curry chicken and so I settled for that. The curry lacked flavor and the sauce was watery because when they plated my dish the water from vegetables went all over my plate. We waited over 40 minutes for our food but didn't mind because we were eating in. The place looked updated from the previous owners (Soul Food restaurant) anywho, the decor had pictures of Bob Marley, Marilyn Monroe, and the Jamaican flag. When you walk in there are a few chairs and tables in the front and then towards the rear a really long bar table. After serving our food we had to wait longer for the rest of our dish because they ran out of sweet plantains. All in all, the food was okay, the wait was longer than expected and our favorite Jamaican dishes were all out. Delicious! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful dinner here on Friday. The staff is friendly and the chef even came out and served our food to us. I had the Brown Stew Chicken and my boyfriend had the Curry Goat. Both were delicious and fall-off-the-bone tender. Entrees are HUGE and come with rice and peas and cabbage. We also tried the Jamaican patties and dumplings. The dumplings are a great idea to dip in the delicious sauce that comes with your meat entrees. Today was my first time in over a year coming to satisfy my craving for jerk chicken. First red flag was selling it by the pound! Who sells chicken by the pound outside of a buffet? Have some patience because the food here turned out to be well worth the wait... When you go inside, you will find the feel of being back on the island. You have your Jamaican colors and some pictures of Bob Marley but in Jamaica, this is what you would expect. Places there are not flashy but very simple and all of the focus is on the food mon... To drink we started off with a bottle of Ginger Beer for me and Dragon Stout Beer for my wife. I always try the Curried Goat when I find a new Jamaican spot and today was no exception. Mama opted for the Jerk chicken and it comes with cabbage and plantains. I also found out they offered bread fruit and had to order some. Service - 3 - The service is slow but that is what we call "Island Time" mon. Atmosphere - 4 - Simple in every way like you would expect in Jamaica. Curried Goat - 5 - Tender and very well seasoned. Truly the best I have had from a restaurant. Jerk Chicken - 5 - Excellent seasoning and cut up in the traditional manner. Rice and Beans - 4 - A wee bit dry for me personally but a great coconut/thyme flavor. Cabbage - 4 - Great flavor and well cooked. I prefer my cabbage without the veggies mixed in. Plantains - 4 - Thinly sliced and fried just the way I like them. Bread Fruit - 4 - Baked to a golden brown and delicious. The owner came out and asked how everything was. I was up front with him about everything and he asked if I liked Jerk Pork. We said yes and he came out with some for us to try and it was simply incredible. If you are looking for a gourmet meal... This is not the place for you BUT if you want some of the best Curried Goat, Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork that I have found in a restaurant, you have got to check this place out.
