Found a new favorite breakfast spot! I can now see why this is a local tradition here in Lee's Summit. The cafe is nothing fancy but it doesn't try to be which I like. It's an old establishment and it embraces it very well. Located perfectly in downtown. Parking can get rough sometimes on a busy morning but we went on a relatively slow morning. Seating is on your own, no need to wait. Hot , gooey cinnamon rolls first off too!! Favorite part of this place is their famous rolls! Must try, melt In your mouth rich, biscuits and gravy is honorable mention! So creamy. Eggs and sausage were both exceptional. I'll need to be back soon! read more

The morning after I arrived in Raytown for a visit with Mom from my home in Oakland, CA, I took her to breakfast here, as I found it on Yelp in searches for good places to eat near places we frequent. Good "hometown" diner service, and the gals who have been here seem like they are invested in the place's success. I heard the coffee was great and noticed the servers giving refills at a speedy clip. Lots of locals here, and lots of seniors... that says prices are good and the locals don't support places that don't have good home-cooked food. Mom had the biscuits and gravy (one of her all-time favorites) with hash browns and hot tea, and finished every drop. The two hot, homemade cinnamon rolls with homemade icing were placed on our table right after ordering (they come like bread and butter at evening meals), no extra charge. Mom dived into hers, and I kept saying to myself, "don't need it, don't need it, don't need it" knowing that the sugar carbs wouldn't be nice to me... but I gave in and enjoyed one with lots of water, knowing that if I didn't take in much sugar the rest of the day that my diabetic sugar levels would be okay.. and they were. This place is so awesome for the price. It is local, serves warm homemade cinnamon rolls (instead of biscuits) while you wait for your breakfast, and has a cool cafe/diner vibe on the inside. If you are going on a weekend (especially Sunday), GO EARLY! Any time after 9AM on a Sunday could be a 30 minute wait to be seated. I have been going to Neighborhood Cafe for many years and have been going regularly since I got an apartment in Lee's Summit. In the last 6 months I have gone 10 times and 5 of those times I had a problem with my order. It seems like they either got a new grill or cook around July/August of this year because eggs were undercooked, burnt, or just tasted bad that entire period. I have been back a few times since for breakfast, and the food was hit or miss. Such a shame because I remember going here as a child and how good it was. I tend to choose other places for breakfast now, and if I go to Neighborhood I stay away from eggs. Lunch has always been good the 3-4 times I have been. Prices are reasonable. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! It truly saddens me to leave this review but after my experience with this cafe today I have no other choice. I have been going to The Neighborhood Cafe for years with family and friends. Today I was treated more rudely than I have ever been treated by a business before and for that reason I SAY DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. I put in a to go order 3 hours in advance in order to provide plenty of time for preparation. When I arrived to pick up my order the staff was very rude and told me the order wasn't submitted and that they couldn't tell me how long it was going to take so I would just need to stand out in the rain and wait. EVERY SINGLE STAFF MEMEBR WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AND ABSOLUTELY NO ONE WOULD ASSIST ME IN MY SITUATION. No apology or customer service was offered. It's appalling that a business would treat a customer this way when they were in the wrong. I own a business and would never treat a customer this way. That is why I'm taking the time to write this review. I understand we all get busy but without our customers we would be nowhere and they not only lost a long time customer today but I will NEVER again recommend this place to anyone family or friends. Sometimes growth can cause quality to go down and that appears to be the case here. SO SAD!! read more

The absolute best place in Lee's Summit for breakfast! They provide free, melt in your mouth cinnamon rolls and the service is always excellent. I'm a big fan of their omelettes. I can't think of what it's called, but there's one with sausage gravy on the top that I love. And the hash browns are always extra crispy which is an A++ in my book. While the food is pretty average for the price range, this place has a wonderful hometown feel. The servers are super friendly and accommodating. This place is super popular for breakfasts on the weekends. Get there early or prepare to wait in line. People literally jam pack this place. The cinnamon rolls and pies are what bring me back. Basic greasy food. Service is horrible. Breakfast is the best. Gave two stars because of the yummy rolls. Stay away from the back room. It's a haven for Fox News and the round table is full of old retired people on social security complaining about Obama and people on government payments (except for themselves of course). Neighbors cafe is worse than I remembered. The cinnamon rolls are free but extremely dry on the outside and raw in the center. After waiting 40 min for a table and 30 min to get out food we were extremely disappointed. I ordered the spinach, avocado and tomato omelet. I happen to love tomatoes but this was a soggy mess. The avocado tasted about 2 weeks old and had an unnatural greenish color. The spinach was stewed and obviously previously frozen. The only decent part of the omelet was the cheddar cheese. My hash browns were warm (ish) and could have used more time on the griddle. My son's plate wasn't much better- cold burnt bacon, poached eggs that were essentially hard boiled, and a decent fruit cup. Our waitress was extremely nice and handled it well. The service was good, but the food not so much. The biscuits and gravy were too salty, hashbrowns and eggs were cold. I had ordered over medium eggs and they came out over hard. I asked the server to get them remade and my new eggs came burnt up. The cinnamon rolls that are brought to the table are DELICIOUS! Arrived this Sunday morning at 9:30am to crowd! There was a mess at the door of people trying to check out and people trying to get in. Too chilly to wait outside today so everyone was crammed inside in a very small waiting area. Diner fare is what you can order here - though I did notice there was some lighter fare options (which I didnt choose this morning!). Cinnamon rolls were brought complimentary and the coffee was very good. Wait time, for the crowd that was there, was not very long. I had a variety platter and enjoyed a well cooked egg, piece of bacon, a waffle, and a pancake - gave the sausage to my hubby who enjoyed an everything omlette....oh, forgot, hashbrown that you could taste were cooked in butter!
