2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 198/365 This place is fricken EMPTY! Honestly, I think this Neiman Marcus is super out of place at the Westfield Topanga mall. It's in this one corridor of the mall that is always deserted because all of the most expensive stores are there, like Louis Vuitton, Ferragamo, etc. Also, it's the most expensive department store in the mall, with lower-end competitors such as Nordstrom, Macy's, and Sears. I came in here for the first time the other day because I was looking for a specific pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses. I saw them at a Macy's a really long time ago, but unfortunately could not find them at the Macy's inside this mall. I was hoping they would have them here, but they didn't. I perused the purse department since I've also been contemplating on splurging on a new bag. I felt like I was being judged at this location on what I was wearing...or rather WHO I was wearing. The store was preeeetty empty, except for a few trophy wives. Kind of uncomfortable environment! Overall...definitely wasn't the best or the most accomodating/friendly Neiman Marcus I've ever been to. Probably won't be going here anytime in the future! read more

The smallest Neiman Marcus store in the state of California! This place was built more for the people in the wealthy part of san fernando valley (calabasas, malibu, topanga canyon, woodland hills,etc) to have a place to go shopping and spend their big bucks. I admire the fact that the Topanga plaza has become a more posh mall, its almost as nice as South Coast Plaza (almost, but not quite)! My problem is this NM is only two stories and its small, very small. The mens selection is very lacking. I buy a lot of skin care products from Erno Laszlo and they carry it at Saks, Neimans and even some Nordstroms. They didn't have it here. I wanted to get some Jo Malone skin care instead, and while they do carry Jo malone they didn't have any of her skin care serums. Then I wanted to buy a bottle of Creed, and guess what? With my crappy Nieman Marcus luck the bottle I wanted was sold out. However, the sales lady Sue was SUPER NICE. A lot of the sales associates here are not bitches from what many people may think, its not too pretentious in here. My only problem is that its a very small store with very small selection, this is more of a boutique Neiman Marcus (similar to how the Saks in Mission Viejo mall is more of a boutique Saks rather than a full fledged store) If you live in the San Fernando Valley or Glendale area then by all means come here. This Neimans was designed so you wouldn't have to waste money driving all the way down to OC or Beverly Hills. I am giving it 3 stars for "A ok!" , its not a bad store. The only thing they lack is selection since its such a small store. However, I must admit the sales people at this Neiman Marcus are probably the nicest out of any NM store I have shopped at in the so cal area. Ask for Sue in the Creed counter, she is a SUPER NICE LADY! This review is of the Louis Vuitton boutique inside this Neiman Marcus store. A friend of mine recently purchased a bag from this boutique for his wife. Being that this is a small boutique, they only had the display model of the bag that he wanted so that's what he purchased. It turned out that his wife wanted a bigger bag so he put the bag back in the box and took it back to this boutique to exchange it for a bigger bag. The store manager assisted him with the exchange but during the process, she kept looking inside the bag, called the other associates over to look in the bag then said that she has a dilemma. She told my friend that she can't resell the bag because there was a "stain or something" (a.k.a. dust) on the inside. She kept looking at it like it was some plague, afraid to touch it, afraid to dust it off, and kept saying "I can't resell this bag". Uh, of course there's going to be dust on the inside, it was sitting on display! The F'd up thing is that this bag was never used nor was anything put in it. My friend purchased it, the associate wrapped it in a box, my friend took it home, gave it to his wife, she opened the box, took the bag out, decided that she wanted a bigger bag, the bag was put back into the box, and returned to the boutique. It's really disappointing to see that the customer service does not go beyond the sale at this Louis Vuitton boutique inside this Neiman Marcus store. You spend $1,000+ on a bag and this is the customer service you get?? You can get better customer service from a Wal-Mart than this place! Lessons learned...if you're going to buy from this Louis Vuitton boutique inside this Neiman Marcus store: 1. inspect the bag (inside and out) before you buy it (in case there's dust in it because if you have to return it for some reason you will not be able to with the dust...); 2. make sure it's the bag that you want because chances are that you will not be able to exchange it; 3. to be on the safe side, just BUY FROM A DIFFERENT BOUTIQUE. The thing that still sticks in my head about this whole experience (because I was with my friend when he purchased it and when he tried to exchange it) is the store manager saying "I can't resell this bag". Uh, what do you mean lady, you didn't have any problems selling it to my friend with the dust and all! Because of the lack of customer service provided by the manager at this boutique, they just lost two long time Louis Vuitton clients...my friend who buys an LV bag for his wife every year (yeah, he's crazy...) and my wife. Good job lady. In the end, it all worked out because my friend stopped by another boutique and they exchanged it for him for a bigger bag without any issues. I have never been to this store before but wondered in while doing on Christmas Shopping. I was wearing just jeans, a sweater and some flats. You would think I was wearing a trashbag and pushing a shopping cart. NO ONE even bothered to approach me, talk to me or ask if I needed anything..which I did need some assistance! These "ladies" are so darn snooty and stuck up. Please remember,you don't know who you are talking to so maybe treat everyone with respect. Being in this new Neimans harkens me back to my Christmases as a child circa 1980. Those were the days when folks in San Francisco would dress up to shop and marvel at the elaborate window displays by Gumps and Macy's. The standout for me was always the Neiman Marcus Christmas tree rising 4 stories in the middle of the store to the top of the rotunda. Its decadence is unparalleled and it is that decadence that makes this store one of the last bastions of unrestrained wealth and pretentious elitism. I don't shop here; I look, I covet, and I move on. The staff embodies this air of pretension, and unless you walk in with a 14 carrot diamond on your finger, a Chloe bag on your arm and Louboutins on your pedicured feet you will be made to feel that you have no business being in there. I was drawn to this new store to look at handbags. A saleswoman took one look at my sensible Coach bag and proceeded to show me purses that cost the equivalent of a small mortgage. When she walked me over to some Valentino bags commenting on how reasonably priced they were, I knew my time was up --it was time for me and my Coach bag to get out of there. The store is beautiful, and the escalator between floors features a sparkling collage of clear butterflies and crystals cascading down from a skylight. The reflections cast from the crystal were stunning. This took me back to a dream I had recently about a co-worker who was chasing butterflies. At the time I interpreted my dream as a metaphor for chasing after unattainable clients. As I pondered the items I coveted that day I thought about my dream and those butterflies. I would've given this place 3.5 stars if there was a half rating. I drove all the way here from LA hoping that they had the item I called for the day before. Only to find out they have been sold out for about a week. To make it worse, there was a guy in the perfume counter next to the Oribe products that didn't even bother to help me. He saw me walking up the counter looking for a certain product and he just ignored me. And when I said "excuse me, could you help me?" It looked like I was bothering him. Maybe I didn't look wealthy enough for him to waste his time on me? But whatever that situation aggravated me. So I moved to the Giorgio Armani counter where two lovely ladies helped me out. They even ordered the products that were out of stock for me. They were genuine and friendly. I believe their name were gwen and georganna (sp?). You ladies were awesome and I appreciate all the help. I went into neiman Marcus wearing a Burberry suit and I was not greeted let alone acknowleged one time. I was there for about 25 minutes and passed by about 10-15 associates and was never even given a smile. The employees who work at this establishment are not only rude, but act as if they are elite like most of the clientele of whom walk through their doors. I do not care if you are wearing a business suit or jeans and a t-shirt, everyone should be treated with the upmost respect and neiman Marcus employees need to learn this. read more

Found a pair of Louboutins that were too big (alas) but did not hurt when I put them on. They always hurt. My feet scream to be released. Not with these. So Walter looked to see if he had a size or 1/2 smaller. Nope. But he brought out the mate, put in a "no slide" pad thing and, voila, they fit! 600 dollar shoes, marked down to 400 and, wait for it, they rung up at 300. Love Walter. Love NM. After calling the main Neiman Marcus line, I was told they no longer had them in stock and I could either return them and get my money back or keep them broken and get a $30 credit. Do normal people shop here? Gosh one look at the price tags and I was terrified. How can a shirt cost $300? Well I have shopped here but for basic things like makeup which costs a standard price at all makeup counters. MAJOR TIP: If you're favorite store (Nordstrom, Macy's Sephora) is out of your makeup color etc check out Neiman's. They will usually have it and the price will be comparable. Anything else however I'm not able to comment on since it's soooo expensive. Maybe one day, one can always dream! :) They also have valet if you so wish. :) However parking is fairly easy. read more

Every year my family gets ornaments from Neiman's - it's one of our few Christmas traditions, as my parents really cherish how the ornaments have these brass butterfly emblems with the year of purchase affixed. In recent years, the Beverly Hills location has slowly dwindled their Christmas decor section down from most of the bottom floor to just a few Christmas trees on the ground floor to just baskets of ornaments. This past holiday season, I saved myself a trip to the Wilshire store by calling ahead and being told that the Westfield Topanga store had the best selection in L.A. Although this Neiman's location is small, the holiday decor section was as big as the Beverly Hills store's from yesteryear. And the staff there was extremely helpful in pointing out what motifs were in this season and which were best-sellers. This was some of the best service I've had at any Neiman's - during the holidays no less - in recent years. From now on, the Topanga store will be my go-to every holiday season to keep our family tradition alive: plus, the parking and traffic is way better in the Valley anyway. read more

Part two of this review. I decided to return the Gucci bag because I discovered that the strap was damaged. I went to customer service as to avoid the Pretty Woman wanna be saleslady. The cashier who was helping me was not friendly, nor nice but I didn't expect her to considering this is one of the most lowest service department store at Topanga Mall. Anyway, she had to call the manager to OK the return and I saw her rolling her eyes by the way - but of course there was problems. Funny thing was the manager didn't even look at me or acknowledge that I was even there. I don't understand why everyone has such attitude problems at this store. Neiman Marcus has certainly built themselves a beautiful store here at Topanga. Hanging from the ceiling above the escalator are translucent butterflies. They add an air of elegance to the store and I would imagine that a stoned shopper would be in heaven and repeatedly ride the escalator. With help from no one I found a Fred Perry polo to try on and I was finally able to tear an associate away from his phone to admit me into a fitting room to try it on. My favorite shopping spot if I want to treat myself. Warning: pricey yet worth every penny when it comes to quality, ambiance, and shopping experience. First let's start from make up and cosmetics. Guerlain and Dior counter, Cindy is great! She knows what I want and need and never really pushes product that's not necessary. Always save me a spot for a facial and it was a total relaxation. Perfume department, most salesperson here have their own brand to represent and ofcourse will try and push their own product but don't hesitate to tell what you're really looking for. They have decent selection of perfume that you won't find elsewhere that you might think pricey than usual but you should consider that they are made of oil based and not alcohol based. They will smell different when it match on your own skin and will smell different than others so make sure to try it on your skin the one that's close to the scent you're looking for. That's where you can tell a high quality perfume that's worth it since they do last longer. Bridget and Eva from the handbag department provide a superb customer service. They will not let you down and let you walk out the bag that you're looking for. They have huge selection of handbags from Chanel, YSL, Prada, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and a lot more! Stephanie and now Bridget became one of my personal shopper. She's all around and will take her time to help me find what I'm looking for. She goes out and beyond to ensure I get what I want. She's amazing and definitely love her for her outmost customer service. If they don't have it in store she'll go and look for it till she gets them! Parking was hard but luckily they have valet service. Oh and the best thing, they have a Neiman Marcus Cafe that kinda hidden inside the men's area and the food was phenomenal! I love having lunch there especially when there's a Dine LA menu. The steak was par from high end steak restaurant and definitely cheaper if you'll compare the quality. If you want something, you can easily text them and they can find you what you're looking for either on your budget or something similar or simply order them online especially for you for free. P.S. Upon reading some reviews, I come here wearing a casual clothing, nothing fancy but still get a great customer service. Some employees are not the same but most of them are more than willing to go out and beyond so don't discourage. read more

But obviously im not rich, wasnt greeted felt a little discriminated, but then again I was just strolling through 5 minutes to closing. =) But if you have been to the Neiman Marcus at the Houston Galleria youll know this location is much smaller than the houston location. Ladies beware!!! If you purchase a dress and they tell you it will be shipped to the store don't trust it! The staff is usually very good at verifying the merchandise is what you purchased. Please be mindful( I was not), of your special event date. I ordered a special order dress and I waited for it to arrive 2 days before my event. It arrived 10 SIZES to small. What am I supposed to do with that? Put it on my leg, not even same day liposuction will fix this! Nor a tummy tuck, not even a full body lift. I'm a very curvy woman and this size 6 won't fit my behind nor my chest. I struggled to get it on and even though it is stretchy it is impossible to fit. I love Neimans! I love their Topanga location versus the Beverly Hills store. I always receive a friendly greeting and friendly service at this location. My review is mainly for the ladies shoe department & my SA Carlos Balan because he is amazing! He is always so helpful. Always helps me find exactly what I'm looking for. If he doesn't have it in stock, he gets it shipped to me right away! He never pressures me, like some associates might to make a sale. He remembers details about me so he always asks how I'm doing or how things are going. He keeps me up to date on new shoes their getting in stock by text when he thinks there is something I might like. Honestly, nothing negative I can say! This store is the worst! Bought a pair of Chloe sunglasses and they didn't have a case to fit oversized glasses so they gave me one that pushes glasses every time it was closed. Needless to say they fell apart in less than 3 months. Took them back to get a new pair and the customer service was horrific! So rude! And didn't stand behind $450 sunglasses sold with wrong case. There were 5 people in line and one lady kept answering the phone and had full on conversations. They weren't acknowledging anyone. A week ago I purchased a pair of AG jeans from Howard in the mens department with good service and was treated like a king. Unfortunately I took the jeans home and they were uncomfortable. When I came into the store a few days later the woman who handled my return told me not to worry about being embarrassed about returning the pair of jeans. That same day I also returned a pair of jeans to the Nordstrom Topanga mall and the rude Nordstrom employee made me feel guilty about the return.
