Been Nellie's big fan since college tasty ice cream and I love how the staff let us try all flavors till we figure out what to order! My go to are their strawberry and cherry flavors, caramel flavored options are also scrumptious. Cannot miss this any summer!

Nellies ice cream serving sizes are worth the price! They load you up with 2 massive scoops of flavors of your choosing. The staff are always friendly, and it feels like a small town ice cream shop! I appreciate the fact that I get to take some home afterwards (:

Quantity of ice cream is A LOT... two scoops for a $7.00 is a total value for outdoor ice cream. The quality was decent but the ice cream scoops were pretty frozen solid so I needed to let it melt a little before I could use my plastic spoon. If I didn't, I would had snapped my spoon easily. The ambience is pretty nice and welcoming. Would totally recommend going and trying their vegan/dairy free options.

Out of state visitor who was in town for a wedding. Came here with a friend after a great recommendation from our Lyft driver. The customer service here was great. They had such a great variety of ice cream flavors and all of them are so good. I settled on an ice cream sandwich of amazing banana ice cream combination with their oatmeal raisin cookie. It's a must have. 11 out 10 good.

Have been to Nelson's plenty of times & wanted to try out their sister store. There are many options to choose from to customize your ice cream. There are single scoops to sandwiches on donuts!! Inside the store is quite small, but has a few tables for sitting. I imagine their patio is more popular. Workers were friendly and gave recommendations when ordering. My only complaint is that one of our cookies tasted a tad stale but other than that it was delicious!! Definitely get the sandwich warmed up

I was visiting my daughter in St. Paul, and she wanted to go to her favorite ice cream shop! I was in for ice cream, especially when she said it was a make-your-own sandwich! You start in the line and choose your cookie first, move to the ice cream choice, a HEAT PRESS FOR THE COOKIE (that does not melt the ice cream), and then you move to options for the cookie to be rolled in or drizzle choices. Very impressive! My daughter loves molasses cookies with coffee ice cream rolled in sprinkles and a chocolate drizzle! YUM YUM, she says. I went a little out of the box! I chose a peanut butter cookie and a chocolate cookie instead of two of the same. The peanut butter chocolate ice cream was ice cream with no other items added. The peanut butter-to-chocolate ratio in the ice cream was incredible! It's the best ratio I have ever had (especially if you like the peanut butter nuggets). It was an experience, and I will be back when I visit the twin cities and my daughter again! The cookies appear to be made by Vikings and Goddesses next door to Nellies. Pros: Inexpensive, a lot of ice cream for the price Variety of choices with ice cream and cookie combinations Cute outside eating area Good street parking Friendly workers (I was even told my two different cookie combo was a great idea) Cons: You will want to go back again and again

Ice Cream A la Mode (warm cookie on bottom with Peachy Keen and Raspberry Chocolate flavors).

Opted for the Ice Cream A La Mode, which was only a few cents more than the ice cream in a cup. With this option, we got a warm cookie on the bottom of a bowl along with choice of toppings. In total, it was about $6.50, and it was well worth it. The scoops were very generous, so I'm glad I shared it. Anyway, I went for the Peachy Keen flavor, which was tasty. As a kid I used to eat peach flavored Breyer's ice cream, and this was much tastier. Instead of having peach bits/chunks, it was more of gooey sauce ribboned throughout. The second flavor was a Raspberry Chocolate... I got a tiny taste, and it wasn't my cup of tea. The only thing I'd change is that next time, I'd request the cookie on the side or on top (even if it cant be warmed). Reason being, by the time we got to the cookie on the bottom, it was a bit too hard.

If you've ever wanted an ice cream sandwich the size of your face, but only wanted to pay $7, this is the stop! Nellie's is the sister store to Nelson's in Stillwater, WI, and if you've been there you know the servings are giant. Well, Nellie's follow suit! After reading about Nellie's and seeing it on social media, we decided to give it a shot when friends were in town. I was shocked by how large an ice cream sandwich we got for the price! The gist here is you pick your cookies, ice cream, and what to have it rolled in (if you choose! I ended up getting sugar cookie with strawberry ice cream, rolled in their "confetti mix" (sprinkles, peanuts, and waffle cone pieces). It was a perfect mix of sweet and fruity without being too sugary! I also had it warm pressed, which warmed the cookies without melting the ice cream, and would HIGHLY recommend this! We also got M&M cookies, with a cookie dough and brownie dough ice cream (it had a name I can't remember) and was also warm pressed. Both were amazing but enough for 2-3 people to share, so they lasted us a few days in the freezer at home! It was slightly chaotic inside, but that's what a Friday summer night will bring any ice cream shop. The staff were super friendly and explained things well. I also loved the wall of "staff picks" for what they like to create. I was slightly disappointed in the roll-in options. There were maybe 4-5 options, but from other online reviews they usually have more. If you're looking for a fun family or friend's night out spot, or have a craving for Nelson's but don't want to drive, check out Nellie's!

It is truly the good sign of a business when there is a line out the door and people are not deterred from the line! After eating at Mario's pizza around the corner (absolutely fantastic!) My sister and I kept seeing people walk by with ice cream and got curious! I'm glad we checked it out!! This is a small shop with very limited seating. It's street parking. The shop isn't over decorated, although they do have a fun license plate theme going where you can get free ice cream! You can either get a waffle cone, 2 different size dishes or pick cookies and make an ice cream sandwich! We decided to try a "small" bowl which was stacked high! We got the Funfetti cake batter and white chocolate raspberry! Both were fantastic!! I would love to come back and try the ice cream sandwich! You can get it warmed up so the cookies are warm and ice cream stays cold! I would highly recommend this little ice cream shop! Very reasonably priced and delicious!!

What a sweet surprise! Nellie's is a choose your combination ice cream cookie shop. You start by picking your choice for cookie, (and there are at least 6 or more types to choose from), then you choose your ice cream (this is the hard part because there are lots of good choices), next you choose what topping you want to roll your ice cream cookie in, the final two choices are chocolate or caramel syrup on top and hot pressing your sandwich. The portions are not small! Two people could easily share an ice cream sandwich, mess but possible. You can also choose no cookies and just get the ice cream. If you choose no cookies you get up to two ice cream flavors. They have some great traditional flavors and some fun signature mixs. Apple crisp and Bananas Foster were the popular choices for our group. I chose snickerdoodle cookies with banana foster ice cream rolled in chocolate chips and hot pressed. I skipped the syrup topping. It's was very good! I wasn't able to finish my cookie so I get to have a treat another day! The staff was very friendly and patient while we made our choices and happily answered any questions we had. Overall a very good experience and I am looking forward to going back!

cookie sandwich w/ cookie monster ice cream ($5.25)
    Chassidie L.

Umm how is there only 20 reviews for this place?!? This has to be my FAVORITE ice cream spot in the Twin Cities!! Stop, drop, and drive here immediately. First off, their vibes are just immaculate. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with the delightful smell of fresh made waffle cones. You will also be delighted with a long line (hint hint, that's how you know the place is good). They have a little hand washing station as a part of the line so your hands will be all nice and clean for your ice cream. Surrounding the walls are their collection of license plates that customers trade in for a free ice cream sundae! You could also get your name and picture on the wall for completing the cookie monster challenge. All of their options sounded tempting, but you know I had to get their ice cream cookie sandwich! It was only $5.25, such a good price. If you can eat a lot of ice cream or are sharing with someone, I recommend getting the ice cream sundae ($6.25). They LOAD that ice cream up! It's a HUGE portion. For my cookie sandwich, I mixed and matched cookies (one sugar one chocolate chip) and got the cookie monster ice cream (one of their populars). It was too-die-for!! I am planning to go back already. The cookies were sooo soft which made the structural integrity of the sandwich perfect. Did you know their cookies were housemade too? I know, this place couldn't get any better! PS: they are not just cash only anymore, they take card & apple pay!

Contrary, coming into the intimate home shop in Saint Paul hit different. As a Saint Paul girly, I absolutely adore small businesses. Marc Heu has a great location across from the co-op on Dale. Due to the pastry lineup altering so frequently, there are no signs detailing the pastry product so there is definitely interaction with staff members to ensure you are getting what you want. The staff is attentive, dressed in uniform and ready to take orders with a note pad upon arrival. Fortunately both days I have went, there were no lines but I also understand lines are common here which is something to be aware of. Inside there are small circular tables to enjoy your pastry and or coffee in. I would not recommend bringing a laptop as this is a tiny shop with an emphasis on eating, mingling and departing. Other reviews will dink stars because they will say the pricing is high however, I think, the pricing is reasonable giving the high quality of baking effort and the quality of service provided. In addition, this is not a spot to come 24/7, rather, special moments such as a birthday, holiday or celebration. With that, I feel like the price is justified. Line or not - the pasty variety is outstanding! My husband and I had a donut with a spiced icing and some other filling and every bite we kept saying yum or oh my gosh this is so good. Inspired from France, you will 100% feel transported as the shop itself resembles France from the interior and obviously the baking follows suit. The display case is the center of attention when you walk in. I highly recommend stopping when in Saint Paul or purchasing at a coffee shop should you happen to see the line of Marc Heu. There are a few other stores in the area, otherwise, Grand Avenue is right up the road should you want to make a day of supporting local. Saint Paul is so lucky to have a slice of France in our city. Thank you!

It seems that they are rightly known for their sweet baked goods, hence the name, but they have some savory offerings as well. I had heard good things about their congee so I made a point to try that. It was good! Filling, plenty of meat. I also have had a unique, savory roll that was buttery and great, I forgot what it's called but it's good. And I had a Lychee Rose brioche donut. Decadent! Delicious. Loved it. I got a Vietnamese coffee one time that was great, and a matcha milk with ube foam that was also great. So, yeah, really everything I've had has been great! The opening hours are painfully limited. They are only open from 9am to 1pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And both times I came it was close to noon and they were sold out of LOTS of things. I'm convinced that if you go there because you want something specific, you simply can't trust them to have it available. Instead of planning a specific visit, the wiser approach would be to give them a look if you're in the area during one of the 12 hours they are open in a given week, and see if you're interested in what they aren't sold out of. They have an indoor counter which you get to via the main entrance on 4th street, and guessing your way through the halls until you find them past that gallery. There is also a seating section which has the ambience of a break room at a DMV. But there is also an outdoor window on Saturday & Sunday, with some seats set up in the alley; that description sounds dicey but it's perfectly fine. My hope is that they improve on some of this to make for a more predictably positive experience!
