I'm an actual customer and I can tell you that NRE is top notch. I purchased their LS427 TT Hot Rod Series with the Alien Intake Option and 76MM Turbos for my 1970 Chevelle SS project. When I called, I asked NRE to build me a 1K+ RWHP motor on 91 octane that could purr on the highway and crush super cars at roll-racing events on the airstrip with over 1600rwhp on race gas. Other builders told me I was nuts. NRE said no problem, and not only met, but exceeded my expectations. Teo did a great job at keeping me posted about parts delays, required changes, and all of the necessary things to think about during the build process. Anyone that has ordered these types of products before understands that you are at the mercy of supply chain issues if you want top shelf components. Once we saw the dyno video, showing the motor putting down 1,400hp w/ mild boost on 91, we were so fired up. It was absolutely worth the wait. When I received the finished product, all we could say is, "Wow!". The motor, front drive assembly, turbos, are simply works of art. I get nothing but complements and can't wait to finish the rest of the build. NRE delivers the juice! My K5 blazer is now equipped with a Nelson Motor and it runs and drives beautifully. They're crate packages are refined to a point where you turn the key and it fires right up without issue. I found myself looking for automotive customizing shops for some friends of mine visiting from out of the country. They had seen a car with a Nelson engine in it at SEMA and so we took a drive out to Chatsworth to check them out. At first we thought we had the wrong address it's a very unassuming shop from the outside, but then you go in and they start showing you around and you realize you hit the mother load. They really know their engines here, but beside that they can customize a car for you from the ground up. I'm saying a custom designed chassis that will fit your custom designed engine and then you can put any car body you want onto that.. HELLO and when you see their work. There are only real artisan's working in this shop who take great pride in everything they do. I'm pretty sure my friends will be creating a masterpiece with Nelson's help and I'll get to test drive the new car.. : ) Oh this is going to be great. I'm not sure what satisfaction this review will get me since I havent had the benefit of using their services. I've contacted NRE a few times already and asked them to build me a LS engine, but I do have a budget, they told me Tom would be calling me to discuss my build. Twice they told me he would get back with me, he never has, its been two months now, I guess I should of never mentioned " I have a budget" my guess is he dosnt want to deal with the everyday guy. He just wants the customer with a unlimited check book. Thats to bad that his passion for engine building has gone to his head and has forgotten his roots. This is literally my 1st YELP review! Just gotta start off and say that we all know Tom to be an amazingly talented genius! I had the privilege and honor of meeting him at his new shop as just a random guy visiting California with my wife last year. He showed us a Lotta luv, touring us around his shop you can clearly see how much his passion for the type of work he does truly sets him world's apart from the rest. He has a lot of respect for enthusiasts and people in general, he's a very humble guy and took way more time than I could have ever expected to give us the tour and sit down and just shoot the breeze, not to mention it was late in the evening and he most likely was tired and wanted to go home! Lol. I was just hoping to see the shop from the outside and he happened to be there and invited us inside..I told my wife to hurry up and pinch me to be sure I wasn't dreaming!!! when I returned back home to the north everyone kept asking what the highlight of the trip was..u guessed it lol! I did not remember much of the trip after that day lol. I recently purchased a set of his mirror image twin turbo''s. He has been more than helpful with making sure I got exactly what I need, he has been contacting me personally making sure I know exactly when I will be getting them. I am an auto mechanic in Toronto Canada and I understand how the business goes sometimes ppl in my trade can get a bad wrap just like "that" when I get real busy I try my best to help everyone else as much as I can and do when I'm not so busy I can only imagine how difficult it could be when u try that with the amount of people a company like Nelsonracing sees on a daily basis! So I gave him a shot because he was so helpful he earned my business he made me feel like I was buying a big dollar item.like a complete engine before even handing over a single dollar!!! You just don't see that often nowadays and so that's what drew me to buying from him and in the future also. In closing I came on here to write a review for the 1st time and could not understand why there was so much negative reviews.. had I read all these beforehand it could have potentially ruined my chance of experiencing something amazing! Boy I cannot wait to unwrap those TWINS.. If anything I owe Tom for all the hours he's spent with me to figure things out exactly how I wanted them and which ones to go with and just chattin back and forth, to me that is much appreciated especially in this day and age and straight up, dudes a man's man! If you are lookin for the BEST then give him a chance if your not then try the REST, let them tickle your ears and tell u what u wanna hear Toms work speaks for itself. I spoke to larry from nelson racing engines, and both larry and tom were very straight up about how busy they were, and the price of a code red mustang engine, the price was right on for what I was getting... if you want a $25,000. crate race engine, than nelson is not the place to buy.... but if you want a real twin turbo race/street motor that makes real reliable horse-power all the time.. than leave a deposit and pick ur motor up when tom or larry calls you !! ... If you think $50,000 dollars to start is to much, then your in the wrong hobby... any good engine builder can make 1200 to 1800 horse-power " once, maybe twice".... but can they it for 500 dyno pulls.... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR... check "Sonnys racing engines, they start around the same price, and there a top engine builder, as is nelson racing engines....Remember,, its a real simple formula...The more money you got ,the faster you get to go.....always been that way, and it will always stay that way read more
