Undoubtedly the most exquisite cafe I've seen in North America - maybe anywhere. The unique, futuristic building design is as luxurious as the food and drink served inside by deeply considerate staff. While every pastry looked phenom, I opted for the Queen (kouign amann.) It hit every craving spot: buttery, sweet but not too much, salty, caramely, crisp, soft... Mon dieu! After scarfing that down I learned they also serve brunch. NEXT LEVEL!!!!! Okay so lately I've been feeling super un-inspired by the lacklustre, cookie-cutter, hum-drummed , repetitive , boring , substandard quality of some of the so-called 'fave' spots around the city. Everywhere tastes the same lately and I've been more inclined to cook--UGH! I like to cook but this heatwave has made standing in the kitchen unbearable. However, I was watching a YouTube video, @downielive and he did a review of this location which is architecturally astounding near the Emily Carr campus. I am impressed! At first it looks like your typical bougie, overpriced coffee-house, but the prices are pretty on par and worth the service , presentation and quality. The Chef deserves an applause for the creativity and taste of the cuisine. I ordered the fried chicken and cornbread and it was so delicious that I was transported to another place. Nothing like I've tasted before. There were so many flavours dancing around in my mouth that I had to pause and really enjoy every bite. Each morsel was light, flavourful and savoury. Top tier. I came for the aesthetics. I'm not proud of it but that's what I did. We came on a cloudy weekday at around midafternoon and boy was Nemesis busy. Aesthetically, it's beautiful. It's perfectly situated in front of Emily Carr so what do you expect? It's pretty. It's interested. Coffee.... meh. I'm not a hard core coffee enthusiast that requires precision on the exact taste and tone of coffee so I'm not the best critique on it. This isn't your espresso based drinks cafe where you're bombarded with whipped up drinks. This is coffee coffee. So if you're a revolver / 49 parallel kind of person - this is for you. The pastries or what was left of it was overpriced for it's taste. But at the same time, you're not here for pastries. You're here for coffee. This isn't exactly a study cafe. It's LOUD when it's busy. The seats are comfortable and despite covid measures, you're either at a shared round table with plexi glass dividing bar stools, or you're at a tiny table where all you really have room for is your coffee and one pastry per person. I pulled out a laptop while my wait for my coffee and my husband already had little to no room for his pastry, so you get the idea. So IG worthy? Definitely. Coffee enthusiasts? Come. Whereas this is a really fun building and they have a very nice outside patio, the problem is they have no cold drinks that are not either caffeinated or teas with caffeine or something like that. The only thing they seem to have is kombucha. When I asked why they don't have anything like pop or anything. the guy told me well because we're a café. How dumb was that? How difficult would it be to get some kind of freezer and stock it with some different kinds of pops? Ohhh man i got scammed. Why did the photos look so good and big. Came and got disappointed with my high expectation from the photos. I thought the place would be more vibey and better. Honestly, as an architecture pov, the building was designed greatly, but the interior designer who designed the coffee shop didnt do a good job. He or she didnt take the benefit of the high ceiling of the building. Furnitures can be chosen better in my opinion to support the aesthetic of the building. Nonetheless, love the smell of the coffee not a coffee expert but i wouldnt say it was the best i have tried. Also, i tried the miso chocolate croissant and it was too sweet for me. Nemesis is my favourite place to go for croissants! I find that I am quite picky with croissants but nemesis is by far the best place that I've been to so far! The amount of cheesecake cream inside was amazing and with the tartness of the cranberry compote! Absolutely amazing! The potatoes during brunch were the crispiest potatoes I've ever had! Horrible service! I visited the coffee with my friends on Sunday September 11 And the first thing the guy that it looked to be the manager, raised his voice to me and my friend for trying to take a table, then we missed some cutlery and when I got up to ask for it, the girl on the bar literally ignored me and the "manager" instead of turning around grab the fork and give it to me just there, he used the same rude attitude and told me "we will take it to your table". I feel robbed, it's not a cheap place and on top of that you're basically force to tip without having being served. They want to have a restaurant vibe, it's not a restaurant, not even a bistro. A real piece of art. If I weren't looking for this cafe, I totally would have missed it and that would've been a real shame. Nemesis Cafe looks like a modern arts piece and is a great place for working, hanging out, and grabbing a bite. I was blown away by the quality of their drinks, pastries, and dishes. The coffees were strong and a perfect ratio of espresso to milk. The London Fog was also creamy and had a smooth earl grey flavor, although was ever so slightly too milky for my taste. I absolutely loved the lemon meringue croissant - so beautiful and flaky with a pleasantly tangy lemon curd. There are a lot of different croissants to choose one and I'm sure each is a winner, so I'll definitely be back to try more! Finally, the pork belly benny was, although pricey, definitely worth trying. The pork belly was well marinated but salty, which didn't bother me because all the other toppings cut the grease a lot. The one thing that was off putting for me was the "biscuit" because it was more airy and bread-like to me. Overall, I really enjoyed this lil cafe and can't wait to go back! read more

Came here at 10am on a weekend. Lined up for one hour and I was adamant we stay and wait since we paid for street parking already. Not sure what it is about Nemesis (same with the North Van location), but the lineups are usually super slow. Anyhow, the croissants are great. Super fresh and flaky. The sandwiches were underwhelming. We got the avocado sandwich and the porchetta sandwich (bland). The coffee was very good. The floor manager was nice and walked around tending to customers and tables. The front cashier was meh. She seemed overwhelmed or aloof. Not sure which it was but we didn't feel super welcome so we ate and left. If you have kids, bring a snack (or a few) and toys. The lineup is long and tiresome. 1. our friend went at 2pm the same day and they ran out of food. So best to get there early, or better yet, go on a weekday! 2. If you're getting takeout, they still make you lineup so there is no benefit to getting take out. You don't bypass the long lineup. 3. Pretty location. Won't be back on a weekend. read more

All tables (inside & out) is assigned seating, which given these Covid-times, I understand. However, some signage to this effect would have been helpful. To view the menu, one needs to download using the QR code, which was on the back of the Entry and Exit signs. Again, no signage to this effect. They don't accept cash payments. Not a problem except...you got it, no signage to this effect. Nor stated on their website. As a visitor, I come from a city that where 'Cash is King' but I do carry debit and credit cards. I ordered a flat white coffee and asked for skim/low fat milk. They only had whole and oat milk on offer. Really? The coffee wasn't that great either. Neither was the service. Don't get me started on the volume level of the music. It was so loud, we could barely hear each other speak. Disappointing experience. read more

My boyfriend and I went for a bunch on family day. Their pastries are good but I think it is a bit overpriced. The bunch menus were limited and we ordered almost all of them. The chicken burger just came with the burger but nothing else. The sablefish benny were not tasty at all and they charged $23. We spent over $100 there and were not even satisfied.
