I don't usually give out 5's, but the Neon Cactus definitely earned a 5-star rating. My only regret for this review is that I didn't remember the waitress's name. We even met her parents, who were sitting behind us. She was fantastic. We arrived before the rest of our party and told the hostess this was our first visit. They went ahead and seated us. But they weren't very busy. The restaurant was very clean, both the dining areas and the bathrooms. The waitress answered many questions and provided great answers. I don't like it when you ask, "What's good here?" and the answer is "Everything." We ordered a variety of meals. The street corn appetizer provided three different versions of street corn. Each was pretty good, but the cheeto dust seemed to be the favorite at the table. I had a chili rellano and it was terrific. I liked that it wasn't fried. My wife had the chicken fajitas and said they were excellent. The corn tortillas that came with them were pretty good; they almost seemed like flour in their texture. My daughter had the tempura-style fish tacos and felt the batter was too thick for the fish portion. She would order them again, but would have them grilled. The other two dishes were the Big Dipper tacos and the birria ramen. Both had excellent reviews from the people who ordered them. Finally, they gave us a complimentary order of mini churros for the table. Who can complain about free churros? Well, I can, and I will admit I am being petty. As the menu says mini, they were small, but four were on the plate, and five of us. My wife and I split one and I could have eaten all four. This restaurant is halfway between our house and our daughter's. I can easily see it becoming our normal, let's meet for dinner choice. read more

Nice place, very attentive service, mostly decent food. Prices slightly here than other places but you're paying for atmosphere. Quesadilla VERY greasy, almost inedible. Good but VERY salty nachos. Flan good but way too sweet. Good margaritas. 3.5 stars. read more

We are very laid back people. My husband and I have both worked in the restaurant industry and understand there are "off" nights, but this was more than that. Service was awful. Chips were never refilled, the server completely forgot our children's drinks, he never offered to take empty glasses or dishes from the table, took quite a while to take our order, and didn't bring silverware--my husband had to go find it (I'm assuming at a wait station) several minutes after our food was brought to the table. The Food was mediocre for the price and we waited for about an hour after we ordered to get it (we got there around 7:30 or 7:45pm and the place was not busy at all). We sat on the patio and three crickets ran across our table. I get we were sitting outside but when most of our time there was spent catching crickets and throwing them off the table, that's an issue. My husband eventually said something to the manager regarding the ticket time and service and the manager's response was "sorry". The waiter never apologized for the ticket time or service. Again... we are pretty relaxed people and I don't think I've ever seen my husband complain but geez, this was bad. read more

9 months ago I left a 5 Star review and we would go at least 1/week, unfortunately things have steadily declined since then. The icing on the cake was today. We had a reservation and we were told there were 4 parties ahead of us. Please let explain why make a reservation if you have to wait? 3 different hostesses rotated after 15 mins past our reservation time we decided to leave and finally 45 mins past our reservation time we got a text saying our table was ready. Mind you we went to another place and we were already eating brunch when we got the text. I really wanted to like this place.. First we had reservations, however we still had to wait 20 minutes after our reservation time for our table, no biggie, annoying yes, but not a great start. We were told that there was a large party that was dining that had backed up the kitchen.. that was worrisome cause it was a Saturday night to begin with... so we knew it was already off to not a great impression from having to wait for a table to knowing food probably wasn't going to be great. Finally we get seated We order drinks, and it takes At least 10 minutes to get our drinks. Ordered a blueberry mule, however there wasn't a single hint of blueberry, it tasted like a normal mule, the classic margarita was very off, however they made it, the tase was not that of a classic margarita, and the ranch water was just filled with lime juice, so bitter. The bar was on the struggle bus and we were told we were the first ones to complain about the drinks.. Strange as we even had to go to another Mexican restaurant after we were done at Neon Cactus to get at least one decent margarita to know it wasn't our palates. Anyways, we order food. I ordered the torta, it was good but it was cold and the fries were like warm at best with turning cold within 5 Mins, like it had been sitting: The taco platter was subpar, and the beef fajitas was the only hot plate received at our table, however we asked for corn tortillas and they gave us flour, and when we asked it was told we definitely gave your corn tortillas. Not all of our food came out together either.. At the end of dinner the server Came to clear our plates and totally dropped a plate all on a chair, luckily that chair was empty at the time of the food going everywhere , 2 mins before the chair was occupied. I understand places are busy, however the prices of drinks and the food did nothing to impress us either, $20 for a 3 taco platter. $18 for a Torta. I'm not sure how this place has decent ratings as It does. Sadly we will not even try this again. Poor service to underwhelming food and bad drinks. Maybe try this not on a Saturday or when it may get busy cause I don't think the restaurant can handle busy: also it was freezing in the restaurant, like they didn't want to turn on the heat... so sorry not going back.. read more

Walked in and got sat immediately. Place was empty at 5:30pm on a Thursday so we thought things would be easy. We sat at our table for 11 minutes about 15ft from the hostess stand. There were a bunch of waitstaff just hanging out talking there and no one offered chips, drinks, or even said they'd be with us in a few minutes. We decided to leave as the place was not even a fourth of the way seated. Inexcusable. Very disappointed. 3 out of the four meals we ordered contained skirt steak. Throughout the meal all three of us were spitting out gobs of fat. It was the most disgusting excuse for meat I ever had at a restaurant. It was absolutely terrible. Additionally, an employee decided to sit on the other side of us and started blasting a soccer game on his phone halfway through our meal. The host and several other waitstaff just ignored him and nobody told him to lower the sound. It was louder than the music at the restaurant and we were clearly annoyed by it. MY daughter wanted to go here for her birthday. The restaurant is a nice venue. There was 9 of us and we were seated in the separate space from the main dining room. Service was good, we ordered drinks, margaritas and beer, and they came quickly. I thought the menus was a little limited, and pricey. It's not your typical Tex-Mex, which is what I prefer. I ordered the quesadillas. It was more food then I could eat in a week. I wasn't that impressed with all the stuff on it and the dry crusty chicken in it. I was surprised to see the nominal rating of 4-stars for Neon Cactus. Our very eclectic son was in town for a weekend visit from Houston. He found Neon Cactus on Yelp. We decided to try it for a late-lunch. We had a blast. More fun than should be allowed in a restaurant. My son and I both ordered fancy cocktails. We were surprised when they both arrived at our table in their very own, smokey presentation box. It reminded me of opening a new Rolex watch. You knew you were in for something special. And they were. I didn't care for his drink, but their take on the traditional Old Fashioned was "off the hook". Our waitress was a ton-of-fun. She had the most remarkable, friendly spirit and carried herself as if she was in charge of the whole place. We felt like old friends as soon as she came to our table. My food was not so memorable, but the wife and son both said their meal was great, but I suspect they may have been influenced by the friendly waiter, if you know what I mean? We'll definitely visit again, if for nothing other than their Old Fashioned. read more

Went to Neon Cactus last night. We had takeout from here before and thought the food lacked flavor but wanted to give them another chance eating inside. Everyone thought the chips were stale and that tacos lacked flavor and had too much sauce. My entree also came out 10 minutes after everyone else at my table got their's. Third time's a charm unless it's not! We really want to love this place, but it's just doesn't come together. We kept hoping the food and service would improve as they are new. We love the atmosphere, the drinks and the vibe. Every dish we have tried was bland or the flavors just didn't quite come together. Trying too hard? Every item we talked with the bartender or server they had only been there a week or two. We waited over 40 minutes for a quesadilla and eventually gave up as it was over 80 degrees and we were tired of sweating. We did notice the guy next to us may have been eating our quesadilla as his order came out in 5 minutes? Who knows! I'll start by saying we loved the comfort of the seating in the dining area. I know that sounds silly but some chairs can be uncomfortable after a while. We stopped to have brunch in between games. Started with appetizers, the deviled eggs were finished instantly. I loved that they bring queso in a bowl that stays hot. My husband and I split steak and eggs as well as the French toast. We are brunch people and it was a must. I definitely recommend trying. It was a lot and more than enough for our children to have some as well. The service and management was 5 stars.
