The mouthwatering firecracker shrimp tacos. Literally. My mouth is watering looking at this picture and thinking about them. Amazing!

Wow. I am a big fan of Foxiis. Wife and I stopped here for dinner one night during our trip to the area to see the eclipse. I had looked this place up because it had a very large menu and lots of things that she and I would consider eating. They also touted a large drink menu that my wife could take a look at. This is in the small downtown district and there isn't a ton of parking. When we walked in, there was a Rangers/Astro game on and some very enthusiastic fans watching. They were pretty loud. My wife and I sort of snuck around the side and got to some seating away from the main seating area. It had several TVs and was comfortable. We weren't really seen as we came in since we went around to the side, but our waitress found us quickly anyway to take our drink order. They serve Coke products, so I got water. My wife got a strawberry sour kind of drink. She told me it wasn't bad, but didn't taste exactly as described. Still, it wasn't too bad. My wife opted for quesadillas and while there were 5 or 6 things I considered (including a burger, which is what I usually opt for), I went for the firecracker shrimp tacos. I have had regular tacos and fish tacos before, but these sounded tasty and aren't the norm for what I would typically order. I can tell you that I made an excellent choice! These shrimp tacos were outstanding! The firecracker sauce was tasty and had just the right amount of heat. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the tacos didn't fall apart while eating them. I chose regular fries instead of sweet potato fries and they were a bit on the soggy side. i would have preferred they were a bit crispier, but they were solid enough and seasoned well. If I lived in the area, I would definitely come back to Foxii's. There is an assortment of food that I didn't get to try and the firecracker shrimp tacos was some of the best food I've had in quite some time. I was very impressed with this restaurant. My wife and I visit Dallas once every few years and I plan on making this a designated stop the next time we are in the area because it was THAT good.

Firecracker Shrimp Tacos and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich.

Stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon. Love the vibe, with the bar and all the TVs. They had lots of beer on tap so we ordered a couple of local choices. I had the Firecracker Shrimp Tacos with sweet potatoe fries, they weren't very spicy and came out a little colder than I would have liked. I still enjoyed them though. My partner had the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and it was spot on. Our waitress was very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and even offered waters to go. They have a great menu, we can wait to come back and try a few more items!

Food was great. Had calamari for appetizers and it was great. Tasted very fresh batter was light and crispy and not chewy. For entrée had catfish platter. 3 pieces good size portion fried seasoned perfectly and crispy great taste. Come with cajun fries that were good and nice portion. Coleslaw which I don't eat but my Mom enjoyed. Had a strawberry margarita great taste. Service was excellent server attentive. Restaurant was nice size wasn't crowd had a bar on opposite side.

Waitress was nice and service was fast. Food was good. Atmosphere seems like it would be wild if there's a game going on-and loud. Decor seems like it could be updated. Overall a decent experience for a quick afternoon bite to eat.

We went here after the Heard Museum. Unfortunately, we were not aware that many restaurants close in downtown McKinney at 3pm on Sunday or else we would have eaten first and then done the museum. So, this restaurant was not our first choice but it was open so we went. There are some good things to say about this place. There is a decent beer menu. The food is good but not flawless. Prices are reasonable. The homemade salsa is worth a trip by itself, it was outstanding. Yet, certain problems prevent me from giving it more than 3 stars. My nachos came out barely warm. By the time I got half way done they were cold and the last couple were stone cold. It's a shame because otherwise the black bean nachos with chicken were delicious. The menu advertised "filet" (steak and frites) but the wife's steak was not filet but rather a cut of sirloin. It had good flavor and was cooked properly but it was rather chewy and not particularly tender. I was overcharged $1 on my nachos and $2 on the wife's steak. I call it "variance from the menu price" (ha ha). Maybe it's special pandemic pricing. I did not say anything but I don't appreciate it when the menu is not an accurate description of what you actually pay. As it turned out, karma evened it all out as the waitress forgot to charge for the kid's soda. There was one woman working who was hostess, waitress, bar tender, and bus girl. She was probably overwhelmed a bit but still was attentive to us. Even though she overcharged us, I still left her 20% because she was working hard and was not put in a good situation by management. Next time we are in McKinney I doubt that we will return because there are lots of other restaurants that we want to try. But I would say that the food is not bad.

First off this place is passed up all the time. I just assumed it was a bar that had finger foods. My husband and I came with our kids one night just wanting to try a new spot. When we walked in my husband was like, I don't think they allow kids it's a bar. Hahaha! To our surprise they had a seating area in the back and had a full menu of delicious food! When we sat I was honestly thinking ok this is gonna be greasy heavy bar food. It was anything but. The menu had very nice items to choose from. We got three apps, and two entrees and just shared family style. It was really tasty, great portions and the service was great being that the only server there was the bartender. She did great and recommended great items to try. Again I would normally just pass this place by; but I'm glad we didn't! Definitely try their food!

So we have a new restaurant off the square. I think they are trying to be a sports bar with lots of TVs showing sporting events. When you enter you walk into the bar area. Then you step down into the dining area. It's brand new and the place was immaculate. I guess the disappointment is...if you are eating on the square, part of the charm is the old exposed brick walls and the allure of eating in a piece of history. This is new construction and lacks the charm of other eateries on the square. Our server was friendly and attentive. He was very helpful with helping us pick out our dinner items. We started with yummy bacon wrapped trio. Chicken, beef and shrimp stuffed with jalapeños and cheese, wrapped with bacon and sizzling on a fajita trivet at your table. It was served with garlic butter dipping sauce. The hubby had the chicken and waffles. He said they were good and he was happy about the generous portion of chicken it came with. I had the blackened catfish tacos. They were very bland and lacked the heat I was hoping for.

I visited Mexican Cactus Taco Bar expecting your typical strip mall taco joint with decent tacos…read moreand some TVs to watch a World Cup match, but WOW did I underestimate what I was in for. I knew from the second we walked in, based on the list of made-in-house horchatas and agua frescas, that we were going to be in for a good meal. The menu was refreshingly unique compared to your basic street taco style setup or the usual Tex-Mex mashup of inauthentic tacos topped with shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Our group of 3 adults, plus my 7 year old niece, shared a bowl of guacamole, which was phenomenal and came mixed with sunflower seeds and topped with crumbled cotija, alongside house-made corn tortilla chips. We also split an elote cup, which was great. My wife got a classic horchata, which was deliciously sweet (but not overly so) with a nice slight punch of cinnamon. I went with water but will definitely try an agua fresca next time. I ordered two tacos, both on house-made flour tortillas (I like corn tortillas but prefer flour when made fresh). The Pollo Azteca, with marinated grilled chicken tenderloin, mango pico, and a drizzle of crema, was phenomenal, and had more flavor than most chicken tacos I've had before. The star of my meal, however, was the Al Pastor, with adobo marinated pork tenderloin, diced pineapple, onions, and cilantro, with a slice of lime to squeeze on top. This was hands down one of the best tacos I've ever had in my life. I was floored. I also tried my wife's Carne Asada tacos, which came topped with cilantro and onions, and a slice of lime, on their house made corn tortillas. The steak was incredibly flavorful, and the corn tortillas were tender without being chewy. We shared a side of rice and beans, which was good, but not the star of the show. The rice was your typical Mexican yellow rice, and the beans were more of a soupy whole-beans style, which reminded me of my Colombian mother-in-law's recipe. The staff makes four homemade salsas, ranging from mild to pretty spicy, and I loved all of them with the exception of the mild. My niece got the kids' cheese quesadilla, which was a simple melted Oaxaca cheese between a flour tortilla, served with rice, beans, and a little side of crema. The last thing I will rave about is the service. The staff was incredibly nice from the minute we walked in, pleasant to talk to when delivering our order and asking how everything was tasting, to the moment we bussed our tables and headed for the door. I cannot wait to come back again, and I hope they stay very busy until I'm able to do so, because I want this place to be around for a very long time!

If you think you've had excellent birria at other places--I promise you, you've had nothing until you've had theirs. On my second visit, I tried a mix of birria de chivo (goat) and birria de res (beef) tacos. The beef was well seasoned and flavorful, but unfortunately the tortillas were a bit too burnt this time. I also decided to try the rice and beans, which ended up being a miss for me. The beans had a canned aftertaste and were very bland, while the rice was dry and also lacking flavor. I tried three of their salsas: salsa verde, salsa verde tatemada (served warm), and the habanero salsa. The two green salsas were decent, but the habanero stood out with great flavor and a nice kick of heat. The staff was super friendly, and service was quick on both visits. Overall, based on consistency and my experience across both trips, I'd rate this spot 3.5 stars.
