This is a pretty cool place if you are looking for some classic arcade games. The way it works is that you pay $10 and you get to play unlimited games for an hour which I think is a great deal. They give you a sticker to put on your shirt marking when your hourThe interior is clean and there's music playing in the background. This place is so cool. I recommend buying at least 2 hours because time flies in there. You pay $15 per hour, get a wristband that says your time limit, and then you can play unlimited times on whatever game they have available. I used to come here a lot Pre-COVID. I remember they used to have deals on Groupon, and we always get that and use that for my date nights. I recognize most of the games as a person who were born in the 90s, so it brings back the good memories always. Wow. I really want to write this review; but I'm having a horrible time coming up with an accurate, honest, and fully transparent rating. I guess I'll save the starrage for later. In Neon Retro Arcade's favor, it's an arcade. That already garners at least two stars. No, it's not an old-fashioned arcade; it's a retro arcade. What's the difference? Nostalgia. Real arcades just existed. They didn't realize or try to play to any future generations' nostalgia for what real arcades once were. If Neon were a real arcade, it wouldn't be called Neon (way too on the nose), and it would be crammed full of games. I actually like that the games don't fill up every usable square foot, but old-school arcades always had more games than they had floor space for, so it definitely doesn't look like an arcade. It's cheap! Another thing in Neon Retro Arcade's favor. You can pay for an hour, but you're a behoositz if you do, because you can pay slightly more and play all day. That's right; Neon Retro Arcade has an all-day plan, and they allow reentry; so, like my brother-in-law, nephew, and I did the week after Christmas, you too can spend a couple of hours here, go get something to eat, and return at your leisure. Even the hourly rate isn't bad, especially when you consider that a quarter in 1984 would be worth about 75 cents today. There was a game (Joust) they advertised on their website that wasn't available when we came, but I don't really fault them for that, as I understand how finicky and fall-aparty games are, especially old ones. I really did miss using the trackball for Joust, but I got to use one to play Centipede, and forty years later, I'm still amazed by how good my sister and brother were at that game at the ages of fifteen and thirteen, respectively. It was also a trip playing BurgerTime and Dig Dug on an actual standup arcade cabinet again, and those games are harder and easier than I remember, respectively. They have a good pinball lineup, and the machines are in fantastic working order. Especially since they get so much use with the free-play model, I'm surprised that all of them were in commission. Another reason this doesn't feel like an old-school arcade is that it blends eras, so the games I mentioned stand alongside newer games like Street Fighter III, and I think all but one of the pinball machines was almost brand new. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's also like a (minor) greatest-hits playlist from a given year on your favorite radio station. If you listen to that playlist, you actually get a pretty inaccurate depiction of what was played on that station that year, because in addition to all those new songs, there were dozens and dozens and dozens of older ones (like from a year or two or five before) that were still in regular rotation. Neon Retro Arcade may have some of the heavy hitters of the '80s, but they don't have all those interesting filler games that the small kids like me used to play because teenagers and older kids were hogging the biggest games, and seven-year-old John S. was definitely not going to try to get his quarter up on the lip* while two older boys were already playing. Three stars it is. I'm very spoiled to live in San Francisco and to have easy access to Free Gold Watch, the greatest pinball arcade of all time. (They even have some standup video games as well.) If I didn't know about FGW, Neon Retro Arcade might make it to four stars. But I lived through the '80s and '90s and was (and still am) a regular arcade-goer. It could be better. It could be much much better. *Remember reserving next game with your quarter? And then in the '90s, some arcades actually glued numbered quarter racks to their games' bezels so that people had a place to put their quarter and know how many people were in front of them. Most of the games were worn real bad and didn't work real well because of it. Mario Cart was super fun but it was in Japanese and we couldn't understand what the writing said. So this is a pretty cool spot to checkout if you like retro arcade games. I've been here over five times in my lifetime. Personally for me one hour is always enough to get my fill in. In my opinion I didn't really see this arcade being that huge. Some of the machines seem to be partially out of maintenance, such as the joysticks feel loose. I don't know how often the games change but within the five months that I've been back nothing has changed. Most games are played by yourself so if you expect to be playing games with a large group you'll be stuck with the Simpson game (sometimes teenage mutant ninja turtles), Super Smash Bros, or Mario Kart. It's 15 dollars for one hour play, 25 for all you can play and I came this time at 9:10 (they close at 10pm) so they were nice enough to charge me 80% or around 12 dollars. Overall an okay experience, I come with my friends when they want to check it out. Definitely come give this place a checkout just don't be expecting to spend hours here. read more

I had been wanting to visit for a while, and I was finally able to do so over my birthday weekend because I wanted to play some classic games at a real arcade. And let me just say that when I walked in and saw all the arcade games, I felt like crying. The ambiance is excellent, and I was met by a kind man wearing a beanie. Although the arcade is small, this area is a jewel because there are a few nice games here. They had pinball games with characters from The Adams Family, Terminator, and Godzilla, as well as Galaga, Mario Bros, Wreck it Ralph, Japanese Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Street Fighter, and Marvel vs. Capcom. I usually don't write reviews anymore, but I must with Neon Retro Arcade. My family and I came here on a Tuesday in the afternoon and the place was reasonably busy. Not overwhelmingly busy where you can't play the games. We paid the $25 all day admission which allows you to go in and out if you're hungry and need a break. I'll say this: AN HOUR OF GAME TIME (which costs $15) IS NOT ENOUGH. So go for the all day pass. Time flew by for us so quickly it was suddenly dinner time. The place itself is cozy and not too large, which is fine. There are plenty of old retro games to satisfy any nostalgia an old gamer may have. The pinball machines tend to be busier than the video games but they open up pretty quickly. I would highly recommend if you are a gamer. read more

They've been back open a while now and I was finally able to visit. For $15 per person, you get an hour to dork out on classic arcade games and pinball. They have Marble Madness, one of the odder '80s games with a rolling ball and groovy music. I had never before played the Godzilla pinball game, which is more fun than a lot of the movies. What a fun little hidden gem in the Old Town Pasadena area! My boyfriend and I were trying to find a way to kill an hour (that didn't involve food as we were waiting to meet others for dinner) and came across this place. Do you love arcades? Because you know what, I do. Also, this is a family friendly place and its quite small so no food or drinks (alcohol) aside from snacks in here. Yep, usually I try to go here when I am hanging around Pasadena, they also used to have Groupon deals that got you an extra hour for the price of one regardless this place is fun and deserve your money. As I've mention the place is small compared to other places, however, they are a mom and pops and offer quite a bit of options. I did like one game however that I fell love with but got removed (pinball with not sure is paceman or another game combined - it was fun because you had other focuses other than playing pinball). Aside from that there is a lot of retro games, about 4-5 pinball, and a console(s) in the back. My 1st draft told of this terrible store owner's rude behavior. It was a trap laid that she walked right into, her reply publicly verifying she has no problem being rude. So in my 2nd draft I warned parents of this petty and reactionary owner - who is as emotionally stable as Trump. In this 3rd draft I'm going to return to my calm cool demeanor, the one I walked into this store with and is evidenced by all of my other Yelp reviews. Once upon a time a 57 year old man with bad hearing in one ear dipped into this arcade. My intention was to walk in and out within a minute because my wife was still in another store. I was greeted by a greeter, and is common for all of us, I didn't stop to talk to her. Or glance towards her desk. Instead I continued walking in - taking in the blinking lights, noisy machines, and the blaring music. I heard another 'Welcome' to my back and presumed someone else entered this nearly empty arcade on a sunny Friday afternoon. What you don't know is I had (somehow) already committed a crime. Did you catch it? Neither had I. The greeter was pissed. When I turned to go she was now before me, welcomed me, and began to explain how things worked in their arcade. PLEASE NOTE - 1. I simply kept walking and she mocked my response to her associate - making sure I heard her as I left. Everyone I've spoken to says that's flat out rude. And worse that it's from the business owner and not some underpaid kid. Mia states in her reply that I 'rudely' dismissed her pitch. That's reaching. That I was 'the most entitled person' who 'acted like he owned the place' is farcical. Manufacturing rudeness to justify her rudeness is pure Trump. I simply didn't understand Mia was trying to engage my full attention, and when she did - I had the right like any customer to politely say I wasn't interested and leave. Without rude her rude lip twice on the way out. If it's critical for Mia to explain her rules before a person walks in, atypical of arcades, PLEASE NOTE - 1. She wasn't standing by the door, like a Hostess or Security person 2. There's no sign on the door warning you to 'check in' first 3. As you enter there's no desk at the door forcing you to stop. So she poorly manages her traffic flow and then gives customers lip who aren't psychic. What followed next doesn't matter. (I returned to the store, asked why she had been so rude, she instead labeled me rude, her two cohorts ganged up against me, our voices were all raised, her employee dropped the first F-bomb, and I returned the favor on the way out.) An awesome nostalgic arcade that provides great entertainment for a great price! My girlfriend and I were in the area and looking for something fun to do and found this place. It is an all you can play arcade and you just pay hourly. The hourly rate when I was there was $10 an hour which is a great value! There is a bunch of classic games to play like Rampage, Pac-Man, and more! There are racing games, shooting games, pinball, and they even have some Nintendo switches in the back where people were playing Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart! The staff is very friendly and they also have some drinks if you get parched while you are gaming. My only issues with the place are that because its a bit busy there you might not get to play the games you want to play. Not a big issue but just something to keep in mind if you want to play a specific game in the time you paid for! Still an amazing place and would highly recommend it. read more
