I'm really disappointed I have to write such a low review. We love Indian food and frequently go to some of our regular spots like tandoor char house and cumin. We got a delivery last week from this restaurant as we were craving some Indian / vegetarian options and wanted to try something new. I have no idea what the portions are inside the restaurant as the reviews look good but carryout was such a disappointment. The portions sizes where so small and the price way too high. The flavors were just so so.. We won't get carryout from here again but we might try in person if on Devon. read more

NOTE: am re-writing this review because the original review I wrote last year has mysteriously disappeared. If you are watching your spending, you will want to avoid this place. Their prices are very high for food you could get at most other Indian restaurants for less $$$. I had a taste for Indian food one night and being that I'm handicapped in a wheelchair, I placed an order online. I did not pay much attention to their prices (I was very hungry) but rather went with the food I especially like. BIG MISTAKE. I ended up spending $80 for what should have been half or 3/4 that much. Basically what I got was okay, nothing to write home about, pretty much what I could expect from other Indian restaurants, but quite a bit more expensive. For instance, an order of pappadum was $5 for 4 pcs. For that money I could buy a package of 10 at any grocery store in Little India for under $3. They charge $5 for naan whereas Ghareeb Nawaz down the street charges $1 -- and you get a gigantic homemade naan made in their tandoori oven. For $1!!! I was very surprised to see dishes that I would consider side orders costing the same price as an entree -- $17.95 for Aloo Gobi -- no meat, just cauliflower and potatoes. $16.95 for Palak Paneer -- creamed spinach with a few blocks of Indian cheese. To me that's like charging $17.95 for an order of mashed potatoes with gravy and a bit of sage stuffing thrown in. Ridiculous. They do have a Nepalese item I would definitely recommend -- something called Mo-Mo, which are little crimped dumplings either fried or steamed. They are a bit pricey at $16.95-$17.95 & you only get 8. They are small, about the size of a Kennedy half dollar -- If you're super hungry you'd probably want a double order -- but you'll end up paying $34 for them. If you've got that kind of money, go for it. Myself, that is way out of my league. The amount they give you is not a whole lot. I thought for $80 I'd have a few days of leftovers. I didn't. I had some for the next day but not much. Never again will I order food from a new place I've never ordered from when I'm starving! Very dangerous & very expensive! read more

I get food from here at least once or twice a month and is my go to food place. I really actually crave food from Nepal House! I love their Palak Paneer- so creamy and the paneer is just perfect. Dined in and ordered takeout - both times blew my mind!!! Amazing food, my favorite being the chicken vindaloo which is perfectly spiced. Can't emphasize enough how amazing their samosa chaat is. When dining in, the service is pretty good. Attentive but also let us have time to talk while waiting for our food. Answered all our questions about the menu with great descriptions! I've only been inside with my SO but it's fun to see all the other diners bring their whole families and order a feast. The place is very family friendly but they also have a bar which is fun. My only complaint is I wish the portions were bigger but that's just me wanting more! Had dinner there on a Friday evening. Service was very slow. Food was good, but a bit greasy. Momo were delish. I had the chicken chow mein which was tasty but just warm (should have been hot, temp-wise). The drinking water was room temperature. The spices made me thirsty, but trying to flag someone down to get a water refill was a real challenge. We asked one employee (not our server) as she headed into the kitchen. She acknowledged us but never reappeared with water. Once we did finally get a refill, it was still barely room temperature so I asked for ice, which I got. The portions were large enough to take leftovers home, but overall, for the neighborhood and the poor service, I thought the food was very pricey. read more

Great quiet ambience, menu has a variety of options from vegetarian, goat, lamb and chicken curries, chow mien, and dumplings. We tried the veggie samosa which is perfectly crispy, best samosa I've tried. I will definitely try the lamb next time. We also got the fried chicken Momo which you can skip, it was over fried, too dry and hard. Try the steamed momos instead. For our entrees we ordered the goat chili, Nepali goat stew and the lamb tikka masala. Okay so before you order the chili goat you need to mention your level of spice! It is very spicy but the flavors were delicious. I would definitely get that mild next time. The Nepali goat was not spicy at all it was good. And I just want to add that the goat has many bones, which is typical but just so you know. If you like boneless definitely get the tikka masala which was very good! We also got mango lassi which was fresh and delicious and helped cool down from the all the spices. I ate dinner at Nepal House on Devon with my bud this Saturday evening. I've eaten at the original Nepal House location on South Michigan Avenue, so I was expecting a good meal here too. The menu features pages of Nepali and Indian dishes. There is also a beer and wine list - I went with a Maharaja beer. We were presented with a basket of these tasty oily thin crackly snack chips (think they are papadums?) and some dipping sauces. We split a delicious plate of chicken momos, the quintessential Nepalese dumplings served with two sauces. I stayed in the Nepali column with Nepali style chicken chow mein. This dish is listed on the appetizers page, but it was a good sized plate and is sufficient as a meal. The chow mein is flavorful but on the spicy side for my taste buds. My bud ordered the chana masala, a mild vegetarian dish with chick peas and basmati rice. He also added on the bhatoora, a humongous piece of fried dough about the size of a deflated football. Waiters were very helpful regarding suggestions as well as making sure we knew how long certain items would take to prepare. We appreciated knowing they were being made to order! Best Raita ever! Best naan ever! Chicken tikka was tikka and delicious. Veggie biriani was delicious!- a bit spicy... put some amazing raita on top and totally change the taste to something new and different but still so tasty! Chicken vindaloo-Very good! Muttar paneer: very fresh. Taste was somewhat similar to the tikka sauce...and that was the dish I came for. Veggie pakora was pretty spicy. Both sauces actually cooled them down. Veggie samosa was also a little bit spicy. Ambiance was very friendly, bright, airy, clean. Food came out fast. Check took a while. I appreciated that the proprietor asked to see vaccine cards when a party of 5 came in but then allowed them to stay even though the two parents of the unmasked 3 year old said they didn't have cards or images of their cards with them though they insisted they had been vaccinated ( yeah sure). My mom and I came in today (Christmas Eve) for lunch. It's only the second time she's ever had Indian food so I was a little worried about how much she'd like it. We ordered the vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo and garlic naan. I'll just come out and say it - best Indian food I have ever had. Vegetable samosas were huge and seasoned perfectly. Both curries were creamy, flavorful and the protein so tender it was falling apart. I got the tikka more for her as it's the less "intense" one but she ended up loving the vindaloo more! I really enjoy spice but the last time I ordered vindaloo somewhere else I was on the verge of tears and pacing laps around my apartment. Pleasantly surprised by this spice level, really enough to add to the flavor, gives a kick and made my nose run slightly towards the end but that's exactly the sweet spot for me! Garlic naan was cut up in perfect portions and we still had half of it left over to take with us. We both had a glass of wine and the waiter was kind enough to bring it to me so I could take a picture and told us exactly where to get it. My mom was raving about how amazing Indian food is. I love it too but had to break it to her that it's not this good all the time, but definitely is here! If in the area and deciding where to eat, come here. My friends and I visit Devon st a great deal. We like to try different restaurants each time we visit. Nepal house is a well kept restaurant on the corner of Rockwell and Devon. We came in and had Mango Lassis (of course!), veggie samosas, Lamb samosas, naan bread, lamb tikka masala, chicken tikka masala, and tandoori lamb... so good! I have to say, normally I'm a Tikka Masala gal but The tandoori lamb was amazing. There was so much food and for such a good price. Our server Meg was delightful very attentive and really kind when I forgot to present my yelp coupon till after she printed the check. She was very accommodating. I would best describe Nepali cuisine as a blend of Indian and Chinese. I absolutely love Momos which drew me to this place. Nice, comfortable ambiance which is more suited to a peaceful meal. Chicken Momos (5.0/5.0) were soooo good. The filling was well seasoned and the covering wasn't doughy or heavy. The chutney dip was mild and paired well with the spices of the filling. Vegetable Chow Mein (5.0/5.0) was another hit for me. Being a spice lover I asked my dish to be made "Indian spicy". The guy was wary enough to inform me that it would be extremely spicy, but I enjoyed every bite of it. Mind you that Indian spicy is not for the faint hearted. The flavor profile is more Hakka style with a blend of pepper and spices. Chicken chilly (5.0/5.0) matched my expectations. If you're tired of the usual orange/general Tso's chicken, you should give this one a try. Overall, this place took me back to the indo-chinese street food of India. All three dishes were bangers! Nepal House is an elegant and beautifully-appointed place that serves interesting and delicious cuisine. My friend, The Adventurer, chose Nepal House for lunch because she'd been curious about it for a long time, even while we frequented Indian restaurants on Devon. And, she assured me that even I, a vegan, could find a selection of entrees here. Wouldn't you know it - she was right (again). This is a white tablecloth and white cloth napkin kind of place that somehow doesn't feel intimidating. The menu is large, split between Nepali and Indian cuisine. I ordered #060 Aloo Ra Seemi Ko Tarkari -- potatoes and green beans with tomatoes in a mild sauce, which was served in a white bowl. The spices are subtle, and I can't explain to you what they were. Suffice it to say that this dish didn't taste like the usual repast you might get in an Indian restaurant. I thought it was terrific. When we looked at the menu, The Adventurer said, oh goody! They have goat. When she ordered the Nepali Khasi -- chunks of goat stewed with Nepali spices -- the waiter said, "that's goat." Warning her off. She said, "I know. I like goat." And she liked this, very much. She took half her entrée home too. The entrees were served with a bowl of basmati rice, which we shared. We also got an order of garlic naan, because, well, because, garlic naan! We demolished that. I had ice tea to drink. I think it was some kind of herbal tea, because it really tasted good. This one is a little tricky to give a review for, and would be a 3.5 if I could give that rating. But since I can't, it's a 3 for a few reasons. 1) my husband went to the restaurant ahead of me, our 6 year old, and our sleeping baby to grab a table and a high chair for us. He asked the server for a high chair, who told him there were none. My husband left and we were standing on the sidewalk trying to think of a different place to eat when another customer ran out to us and told us she had seen a high chair in the bathroom, and we should come back. That was so nice of her! The server was much less interested seeming in us returning, but oh well. 2) The samosa dough here is great! I imagine the veggie one is really good. But the lamb one is very oily and drippy and just heavy, and the meat was under seasoned at least on this occasion. My husband and 6 year old were trying to enjoy them and sharing together over a plate. Our server did not like that, and asked my husband to feed her differently, because she was getting some oil on the paper tablecloth (because she's 6.... hello....). I did not love my husband being scolded for having our kid quietly enjoy food but whatevs, moving on. 3) we tried to order mirchi pakora but were outright refused repeatedly. At first our server said it was too spicy for us (which I can almost guarantee it isn't since my husband grew up in India and I grew up eating ghost chili hot sauce flavored things and the like). When we insisted we'd be fine, he said we could get pakora anywhere. This went on and on for a while and was getting frustrating. Finally he said that they are known for their momos and we should get some chilli fried chicken ones. So we said ok. And watched him in that moment cross our pakora off the list and write his own suggestion instead. Sigh. Luckily the momos were good. But of course later he asked my husband if he'd ever had momos before, and my husband said yes. The server asked where he had them, and when he said he'd spent some time in Delhi and had them there, the man scoffed at him. Remember my husband grew up in India, but apparently the server felt like being completely condescending anyway. Not cute. 4) the biryani was underseasoned and there were 3 small pieces of chicken in the whole dish. The chicken that was there was wonderful! Succulent! But so few pieces was kind of silly, and that was the only memorable part of the dish. The aloo mutter was nice but not amazing. One of the pieces of lachha paratha was too oily but the rest were good, so can be overlooked. 5) when I showed my Yelp check in coupon, the server (who I believe is also the owner by the way) mentioned how I should be sure to leave a good review if I like the food. That I should eat first and then things will happen naturally. But that there's no need to leave a review if I don't like it. And of course at the end of the meal he corrected us again on how we were feeding our kid (we were apparently rushing her now and needed to let her eat). I remember this man from 3 years ago when we told our then 3 year old here to eat. After the same rude treatment that was memorable enough to come screaming back years later, I'd say: 1) don't come here if you have young kids, or 2) order delivery. The front entryway is just filled with takeout stuff anyway, and the restaurant was almost entirely empty each of the times I've been. The food is decent and with good service a 3.5 star rating could become a 4. But with rude interference in parenting (which was totally unnecessary considering our child was quiet and eating the food happily), scoffing at my husband's time in India, and also a weird attempt to censor my review, we plan to dine elsewhere. Life is too short and there's too much good food to put up with that! read more

Not very large portions but enough to fill a person up. Mango lassi was slightly more on the yoghurt side than the mango taste but still good. Prices were reasonable. Nepal House uses the highest quality ingredients and everything is cooked to perfection. The lamb samosas are the best samosas I've ever had, and they have momos. The chicken momos are delicious with a perfect bite to the wrapper/skin. The service is warm and sophisticated but slow compared to the pace of dinner I'm accustomed to. I love Indian food and I eat Indian food all the time. This is better than any of the other top rated Indian restaurants. The flavors and textures of each dish are very bright. Nothing is overly heavy or muddy tasting. I've never had the impulse to clap for the chef at an Indian restaurant, but I had that impulse here. read more

Vishal was are wonderful waiter. Food was excellent and they serve wine, beer and hard drinks as well. They open at 10:30am and stay open until 10:00pm The Onion NaN was amazing as was the tikka masala. We also had Chicken Madras which had a great coconut base. The samosas were extra large and the vegetable filling was really good althoughI didn't love the outside dough. I highly recommend this place. The staff really cares about their customers. read more
