Lost a hard drive on my Mac laptop with a couple terabytes of data. My sister in Texas recommended local and found Nerds (keeping me out of the local electronics chain store). They even have an online coupon. Made an appointment and met with Josh. Nice guy and very knowledgeable. The down payment in advance was reasonable and comes off the top of the final bill. Two days later, all data has been recovered to my external hard drive and I'm back to pick up my equipment. Well done; highly recommend! read more

My computer decided to take a poop on me after a weekend out of town. Being that I work from home, this put me into quite a panic! My week was packed with scheduled work and no computer to do it on. After several attempts to fix it myself, I finally reached out to Nerds on Call for help. They had great reviews and I adored the Nerd-based business model. There was an immediate appointment available and they even opened the door for me when I arrived carrying my big computer tower. Nick was very friendly and upfront with all the information I needed. He made sure I understood their diagnostic process, the prices depending on what happened, and gave a realistic timeline to set my expectations. I received a call the very next morning with an explanation of what was wrong and what needed to be replaced. He even gave me some suggestions on changes to my hard drive and fans that would improve my system. My computer was fixed and back home in less than 48 hours total !!! I had a particularly important excel file that disappeared after I tried to download and use the Libre office suite. I brought my desktop computer to the Redding location on a Tuesday at around 3:30 PM and was given the price structure and times they anticipated for diagnosing the issue, repair turn around and parts delivery if needed. I called late Wed and was told nothing had been found yet and they needed more time. Called back Thursday and was told the RAM was working fine, but may not be getting power, they would need more time. I tried to call right back and ask about just replacing the motherboard and CPU, but the tech was not available and would call me back. Monday was a holiday, unsure if they were working so I waited until today at 1 PM to call and was told the person I needed to speak to was at lunch and would call me back soon. At 4 PM I called them back and the tech was "not available" to speak with me and no solution to the problem was put forward. 4 days to tell me my RAM hardware is good, but offer no solutions is pretty bad. The lack of call back is not great either, but I could live with it if we were getting somewhere. All things considered they either did not want this work or it they don't know how to fix it. Either way, I have asked for them to put it back the way I brought it to them so I can take it somewhere else. If that doesn't go smooth, I'll come back here and make this worse I guess, I hate leaving negative reviews, but I just wasted 7 days waiting for nothing to be done not to mention $49.00 down the drain. ***Update - Someone from the shop reached out to me today and we had the conversation we should have had last week. They apologized and explained what went wrong on their side. Am I happy about being the person stuff goes wrong for, not really, but mistakes are made. They have asked for the chance show they are a good company and I am going to take a chance with them. I'll update this review when everything is done with my final thoughts. read more

They said they could give me a quote to fix an HP laptop battery. But first they needed information. Email, phone name etc. Then they gave me a flat rate of $ 90 for 15 minutes and ~200 per hour. Then I said what about parts, They said " you don't have the parts?" Why couldn't they just tell me they don't have parts and what they charged for their time. Since they charge 90 bucks for 15 minutes of their time. Just think how much time they would have saved by not asking for all my contact information before giving me a flat rate that would have taken 5 seconds to tell anyone. SO I'm supposed to secure the parts, in this case just a battery and then pay really high rate for them to put them in. Laptops aren't that expensive. Just easier to get a new one. read more

I initially requested an "at home service call" from Nerds On Call. Enter Nerd Luke who arrived on time and proceeded to diagnose and attempt to fix my internet connection issue. He was very knowledgeable and thorough and so patient when answering my many questions. There was apparently an internal problem with my wi-fi connection so I decided to bring my computer to their shop when I returned from vacation. Luke checked to see if I could connect with ethernet which worked fabulously and provided the band-aid needed until after vacation. Fast forward to April 1st, I took it to the shop and met Nerd Demitrius! After explaining to him about my World of Warcraft addiction, he assured me that I would hear from them within the next couple of days. Today I received the call stating they were fairly certain they had found the problem but he wanted to run a couple more tests to see what my best option was going to be and that he would call me back. Less than an hour later he called and said "We fixed it, you are good to go and your guild awaits your return!" The "don't give up attitude" of Luke and Demitrius went above and beyond my expectations and is the reason I will be a return customer should I have issues in the future. A power outage shut my computer down. I brought it into them after talking to a confident nerd who gave me hope they could get it running. They did with a new power supply. I was elated and lucky. The advice I got from them is excellent. I have been around computers and computer nerds for most of my working life. These guys are the real deal. They are willing to answer every question and beyond capable. I felt a part of the process, not a dumb customer. I returned to have my 7 year old computer upgraded. I learned how patient and knowledge these guys are. I had to be patient, too. I also groaned when I found out how my prior decisions made reinstalling software a struggle instead of a piece of cake. Not once was I lectured or condescended to. I was offered alternatives. With their suggestions, I was able to have my preferences built into the rebuild. I struggled without my computer, I learned a lot, and I had a ball with these guys. I'm actually looking forward to my next computer conundrum. Money well spent. read more

I requested an *at home service call* from Nerds on Call. Best experience ever! I have prior computer experience myself. I was a computer systems administrator 20 years ago but the tech industry has changed tremendously and I needed help! Miguel was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and thorough. I can tell when someone knows their business! He was fast too. Miguel took less than 30 minutes to fix my specific issue but he spent the next 30 minutes fixing various other issues which was highly appreciated! I will definitely call Nerds again!! (We live in Cottonwood out in the boonies and his 25 minute drive one way was a $59 trip charge which was reasonable to me (so basically an hour round trip). Then it was $179 for an hour of service). This was my second trip to Nerds On Call, since they did so well on my first. I had an odd request (installing Linux on a 1999 iMac) and was in no hurry, and Miguel took on the assignment, did a lot of research, a lot of testing, and found a solution which he implemented. He called with updates as he went, and I cannot say enough about the final result - WOW! They repaired and restored my screen on my Mac and it works great. Unfortunately they updated and changed my operating system without me realizing it. I was pretty bothered that I would have to ad additional software. We communicated and were able to get me back on my original system and I am happy with their service and customer relations. Nerds-on-Call in Redding CA is everything this 76-year-old needs to keep his satellite-based Windows 10 desktop system running smoothly. I had been using Windows 7 for several years and loved it. When I bought a new computer with Windows 8 already installed on it, I HATED IT, and never even used it. I was very reluctant to migrate from Windows 7 to Windows 10. If I hated Windows 8, why would I ever want to migrate to 10??? The brilliant technicians at Nerds-on-Call assured me that the migration from Windows 7 to to Windows 10 would soon become necessary, and assured me it could be done very smoothly. They were so right! I do not notice any significant user differences between Windows 7 and the Windows 10, other than better performance. It's true -- if you like Windows 7, you will love Windows 10! read more

1/13/23 Took my laptop down to Redding again today to meet with one of the managers, Nick. Wasn't really looking forward to it after all the hassle. But Nick was amazing, went above and beyond any expectations. He was kind and understanding. He personally looked at my computer and offers his best opinion. I had already ordered a battery and he offered to replace the power port at no charge and install the new battery when it comes. He offered me a loaner laptop but since I need QuickBook installed not going to help, though offer was appreciated. He also offered a full refund and a few months tech support if I needed it. Completely blown away, fully expected to be told oh it's not our fault. Whatever they are paying him it's not enough. Changing rating from 1 to 4 stars based solely on his attitude and willingness to make the situation right. 1/12/23 Was super bummed, no reply from manger this week. They called to confirm apt for tomorrow and I told them wasn't bringing my laptop in if their manager couldn't even be bothered to return my call. Nick called back within a few min. His high level of customer services is what I had expected from the beginning. He said he's not the manger of the Redding store but that he would personally look at my laptop tomorrow and see what was up. He agreed that it shouldn't have been given back without starting correctly. He said to bring it in and they would check it out and see what's up at no charge and go from there. This was the response I was looking for not telling me I'd be billed more just to bring it all the way back to Redding. 1/8/23 Went with this company since I wanted to support a local shop and not a big box store like Best Buy. I was impressed someone was actually online when I went to chat about an appointment. I looked at reviews and company seemed great. I usually work on my own computers but just wanted my laptop up and running for a job I had the following week. They seemed great. Took my laptop all the way to Redding...1.25 hr drive each way. There was something shorting out in the screen, told them there was nothing wrong with hardware or software. They called me 3 days later, said it was a pinched cord and it was all fix. They claimed they ran diagnostics on it and everything was running great. They tried to upsell me on a tune up which I declined since the computer is new and hardly been used. Drove another 1.25 hrs each way to pick it up so I could use it for work this week. Again they tried to upsell me. Got it home and tried to start it up a day later. Had all kinds of issues. Dell Diagnostic came up, wanting to run. Bios said there was an error OS_Boot_Failure. Finally got it started and realized it was running off charging cable only and battery wasn't charging at all. How can they give a computer back, claim it's all good and that won't even start up?! I sent them a chat and a very nice but unhelpful guy called back. He seemed to know nothing. Said he could remotely access my laptop. It was in the middle of Dell diagnostic so asked him to call back in 30. He did but then said oh he'd have to charge me more for remote help! Said his manager told him after looking at my note my only option was to bring it back in and have them take a look at it. Super frustrating since now I don't have a laptop for work and need to spend a bunch more money running it back down. Got a call back a bit later, was hoping they were going to make it right but it was just same guy saying since I'd ONLY paid $99 they would charge me to look at it again! To fix a problem they created!! Completely stunned. I feel like I've been scammed. Absolutely the worst customer service I've seen in a long time. All they care about is the money. I said that was not acceptable and wanted to talk to a manger. Guy on the phone said Nick was manager's name and apparently he wasn't in but will call me tomorrow. I'm assuming he's the same manager that looked at my notes today and told guy to upcharge me to look at it again. Hoping they make it right but so far nothing but negative feedback on this company. read more

Only had them put my computer together cause I've been swamped with work, they were friendly but kept treating me like I had no idea what I was talking about. Ask them to check the power button connection, cause according to them the power supply was weak, Well after talking to other experts figure out it was the power button on the case that wasn't connected. Then I found out they tried to charge me 25 dollars for a service I was never told about. Cause if I was, I wouldn't have asked for it. Biggest waste of my money and time. read more

Today, Miguel came to evaluate my 92-year old's computer. My mother is mostly deaf and partially blind - but still using her computer to the best of her ability. I cannot emphasize how patient Miguel was as he fixed a couple of issues that were keeping her from successfully using her computer. The only reason for the lower star rating is because of the lack of the tech person who first called back, did not have any idea of how to approach my problem. Finally, I asked him if he had any idea as to how to approach my problem, and he admitted he had no knowledge and I suggested we end the session and I would call back the following day. He agreed that that was a good solution to the issue and we ended the call. The following day, Brian called me and within five minutes had directed me to the issue and the matter was solved to my satisfaction. The Nerd solution is working for me, and I am satisfied to some degree, however it would be so much better if my calls were not always referred to a tech sometime in the future! It is always one or two day wait, but fortunately I have not had situations that require immediate response. I like the idea and premise of Nerds, however would like better knowledge by the tech taking care of my needs. read more

Update on the service they provide me. They told me I have a gift card for 330$. I asked them for a $309 motherboard so they told me they would call me back and it was no problem. So they never call and i call 4 times in one day getting blown off each time to have them send me an email for a quote sayong i would owe $146. They were going to charge me a consulation fee, OS reinstall fee and a computer build fee.... all to order a motherboard.... This is a joke and no one takes their job seriously. Even the call center agent said a supervisor would call me and sent me an email saying the guy who quoted me the extra payment would call me tomorrow instead... How hard is it to order a part? If you don't want my service then why don't you just refund me instead? Don't go here unless you want problems. Old review I originally had a review that was not positive with this company but have changed my mind after the manager called me and worked out a situation that was fair for both of us. I was refunded the amount used as in store credit and will be putting it towards a new system that they will help me build. I am doing this to give them another chance because everyone deserves second chances and they really gave effort into making sure I was happy. That's customer service :) read more

I had them replace a power source on my computer. In doing so they not only left the CPU cooler pump (liquid cooled system) unhooked, they literally left no place for it to possibly be connected. The call in was all excuses about how it was my fault for taking it apart.. so i fixed it myself. I have built every computer I have ever used save this one (gpu prices make self built computers not financially smart). Its not fixed properly, i unhooked the case fan to run the cpu pump, but i would rather it be ghetto fixed than take it back to these people and possibly give them another dime for shoddy work. read more

I was having an issue with my computer being really slow so I called these guys to see what's going on. They told me they they needed to remotely access my computer so I agreed . After an hr or so of them using free malware programs like malware bites and spy bot to search my computer they showed me I have 1500 infects or so to try and scare me into buying there service . The 1500 infections where just normal cookies from my browser witch I could clean out my self . They offered $229 to click the clean button on there free to every one software . Wtf are they crazy !!! So of course I said no downloaded the same free software they used and clicked the clean bottom my self for free haha. Then after a few days go by my mouse started moving on my computer by it self and I noticed there remote program was active and going through my personal files !!! Had to take my computer else where for them to restore my computer because the tech told me nerd on call left a backdoor they can access at any time on my computer. read more

I'm not a big fan of negative reviews online. If I have an issue with you, I will talk to you. BUT... I've called twice to ask for a manager to call me back to give feedback and they haven't called back. SO... I've been a monthly paying customer for a few years now. I brought my computer in because it was shutting down while running high demand games. He opened it and told me I don't clean my computer which is not true but he's the pro, right? So I asked him to show me what I was missing. Now I know some vulnerable areas of my computer to watch while cleaning. I also asked him to put in a 1T SSD drive since he had it. When I got it home the computer thought it had two operating systems on it and asked me which to use. That was odd. Then within 15 minutes of loading the first game it shut down, just as it had before. It was also slower to respond than before. Also, when I tried loading WOW it told me the "dll files are missing". I called in and the person on the phone said they thought it must be the power supply. So I brought it back and I stood there playing games with the guy at the store and again within just a few minutes it shut down in front of him. He told me this was new information I had not told him before. Once again, NOT TRUE, but he's the pro and now he has seen the issue. I reminded him to look at the notes from the other guy and he kind of blew me off on that. But he's the pro so I left it to him. He also told me the extra operating system must be some old residual on my hard drive. Odd, but I figured he'd just fix it. No big deal. And it would be no charge, When I picked it up, he told me it was the bios files that were corrupted and it was now fixed. So I came home plugged it in and the two operating systems were still there and the computer shut off again with 15 minutes. So I called and let them know it still wasn't fixed, since you only have two weeks of warranty. Plus I'm not a big fan of yelling and being mean so I said very little at that time. The poor lady on the phone doesn't deserve my wrath anyway. I did some online reading and found the same thing the guy on the phone said earlier so I bought a power supply myself. I installed my own power supply and reinstalled Windows to get rid the the "extra operating system" and WOW was then able to find the dll files. It also runs at its normal speed again. I don't really know why because I'm NOT the pro but now my computer is fixed. I don't feel treated unfairly financially. He did clean it very well and installed a hard drive for me. He talked down to me, repeatedly letting me know how much more he knows than me. That's fine too, but you better be damn good at what you do to act that way. This know-it-all was defeated by a power supply. Very easy for me to do myself. There is even more to it than this but this is too long as it is. My monthly contract is now cancelled. read more

I contacted and allowed these NERDS to overhaul my computer because a worm or something...now the price was WOW expensive but Lord knows I needed it to be fixed...I understood that this was a 3 month plan but I only called on them twice in that allotted time but I did not know they were still charging me monthly for services I was not aware of...but the manager had great customer service skills and we worked it out and I am still a customer : ) they helped me again today...the key to any kind of growth is GREAT Customer service and they got it ! There are two aspects to this review about my new wireless system. On the positive side, Josh, the installer, was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable. On the negative side, Rayme, the representative I talked to, sold me an over-priced equipment package for $395.00. Based on our discussion, it was my understanding that the system I was purchasing would allow me to get the 100+MB coverage throughout my property. First, the system was the basic three piece Google Mesh package I could have purchased for $235 through Amazon Prime. Second, while coverage has been improved, speed does not meet my expectations. When I brought this to the attention to Nerds, their representative agreed to rebate $50 to account for the difference between their equipment cost and the Amazon cost. In addition, he gave me some positive advice on how I might tweak my system to get higher speeds in the garage. I was impressed that Nerds reached out to me to address my concerns and will accept their rebate. Finally, I would recommend using Nerds for their excellent service but purchase your own equipment. read more

I turned in my laptop and received horrible service employees seemed tired and rushed me to get my buisness and tried to sell me stuff I did not need when I called to check on my laptop they recorded my conversation when I asked not to be recorded they told me they couldn't I asked for a different number they told me there was not one and no manager or supervisor there.
